The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 90.1
She is Song Wenzhi’s Only Special Cure
The scent of mint had dissipated slightly. The inhibitors Yu Kunian injected had side effects; after all, forcibly suppressing pheromones during a rut would inevitably impact an Alpha’s gland. However, if it were truly her pheromones that caused Song Wenzhi’s condition, Yu Kunian would regret not having administered the inhibitors sooner.
“To be precise, you are the cause of the illness, but you weren’t the initial cause,” Xia Weichi spoke after a moment of silence.
Yu Kunian asked, “What do you mean?”
Xia Weichi looked at her, her expression becoming serious. Instead of answering, she asked back, “I want to ask President Yu, what is your purpose in approaching Xiao Zhi this time?”
Yu Kunian’s gaze darkened. “I have no purpose.”
“The crisis at Zhaoming Biotech was partly your plan. Coming to New York was also decided long ago. Even the so-called Nianzhi Alliance was part of the plan,” Xia Weichi’s expression remained unchanged. “Am I right, President Yu?”
Yu Kunian knew it was only a matter of time before Xia Weichi found out; she wasn’t surprised. “Yes.”
“Then on what grounds do you say you have no purpose? I believe that with your methods, standing firm in New York and expanding your team through the Alliance wouldn’t be a problem. Why come back to provoke Xiao Zhi again?” A hint of gloom crossed Xia Weichi’s eyes as she laid everything out on the table. “I don’t welcome you, President Yu. Back in Lihua City, you had ulterior motives regarding Xiao Zhi and used her as a bargaining chip. Now that you’re in New York, I wonder what else she can help you with?”
“I have no such intentions. I came to New York because I want to save our marriage.”
“And the reason?”
“I love her.”
“Love?” Xia Weichi let out a cold laugh. “Yu Kunian, back in Lihua City, I didn’t feel that you loved Xiao Zhi. It was only after we left that you discovered you loved her?”
“That is indeed my fault. I…” Regarding this matter, Yu Kunian was speechless; there was nothing she could say to explain herself.
“You have many faults. I’ve told you before—don’t treat Xiao Zhi as a pastime to be summoned or dismissed at your whim. She doesn’t have the time to play games with you, nor can she afford the toll. Unlike you, Xiao Zhi doesn’t have many options, let alone the capital you possess. If your sincerity isn’t one hundred percent, then please leave.”
Yu Kunian lowered her gaze and said softly, “On what basis does Director Xia judge that I am not sincere?”
“You’ve already deceived Xiao Zhi once. I have every reason not to trust you.”
“Zhizhi is not a pastime. Coming to New York was indeed part of my previous plan, but it isn’t anymore.” Yu Kunian’s eyes were firm. “I am here only because Zhizhi is here. Regarding the Alliance, it is not my focus.”
Xia Weichi narrowed her eyes, studying her expression. “Then I want to know: why must the CPP technology be discussed only with Xiao Zhi? Are you not seeking profit?”
Yu Kunian rubbed the back of her hand with her thumb. After a moment of silence, she asked instead, “Why does Director Xia want the CPP technology? You said you could negotiate the cooperation in a personal capacity—do you have some selfish motive? I don’t entirely trust you either. Furthermore, I intend to establish a partnership with the Research Institute. Even if there is no profit involved, it is definitely not for personal gain.”
“I have my reasons, and they aren’t selfish; they are related to Xiao Zhi.” Xia Weichi paused. She hesitated for a few moments before finally continuing, “I am Xiao Zhi’s private doctor. The CPP technology is incredibly important to both Xiao Zhi and me.”
After finishing her sentence, Xia Weichi stood up and walked to the window. Outside, the night was thick, and the atmosphere in the room was tense. She rested her hand on the edge of the windowsill and added, “Yu Kunian, how are you going to prove that your pursuit of her in New York is sincere?”
“How do you want me to prove it?” Yu Kunian turned to look at her and asked.
Xia Weichi didn’t look back. She fell into a very long silence, thinking of the still-unconscious Song Wenzhi. In truth, the Omega had already made her own decision; she didn’t need Xia Weichi to keep confirming it. Her own anxiety stemmed from the deep-seated memories of the past. She didn’t know how to prove it either; perhaps only Yu Kunian herself knew.
Since Song Wenzhi believed her, why should she remain fixated?
After much thought, Xia Weichi turned back. She met Yu Kunian’s gaze and spoke again: “Xiao Zhi fainted today because she hadn’t been in contact with your pheromones for too long. Today, because of your rut, the concentration of your pheromones was too strong, causing her gland to go into overload. Her gland doesn’t reject the guidance of your pheromones, but in an unrestrained situation, it’s like water overflowing. Although the pain is numbed, it ultimately leads the Omega to fall into a coma.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian frowned. “I’ve never heard of an Omega experiencing this situation.”
“Xiao Zhi is different from ordinary Omegas,” Xia Weichi replied. “That is also the reason why I am her private doctor.”
“How is she different?” Yu Kunian pressed.
Yu Kunian would have to know about this matter sooner or later. Compared to Song Wenzhi confessing later, Xia Weichi preferred to disclose it now. She didn’t want Yu Kunian to feel regret after finding out later.
Xia Weichi said, “Xiao Zhi’s gland has permanent damage. Her heat cycles erupt irregularly. It’s not a simple case of pheromone disorder. In the early stages, she couldn’t accept an Alpha’s pheromones. If she encountered pheromones released by an Alpha—even just a hint of the scent—it would cause secondary damage to her gland. Scent blockers had little effect on her; she could only rely on double doses of strong inhibitors to suppress it. But this only led to her physical condition worsening, with her gland developing a resistance to the inhibitors, causing ongoing damage in a vicious cycle.”
Only then did Yu Kunian recall the many times Song Wenzhi had acted strangely during their time in Lihua City. She had actually overlooked it.
“Later, during the process of treating Xiao Zhi, I discovered that she didn’t develop a rejection to only one person’s pheromones.” Xia Weichi’s face became very somber. “Xiao Zhi told me that back at No. 4 Middle School, she had received pheromone soothing from you. Not only did she not reject it, but her condition surprisingly improved. That person was you, Yu Kunian.”
But then Yu Kunian left.
“We all thought there was a turning point then. Xiao Zhi was very happy. The illness that had tortured her finally had a chance to be alleviated.” Xia Weichi frowned, falling into her memories. “But things didn’t go as planned.”
Yu Kunian’s departure from No. 4 Middle School was sudden, and she vanished as if she had evaporated, before Song Wenzhi even had a chance to formally get to know her.
That burst of ecstatic hope was struck down by fate before it could even rise. Their joy became a joke. In truth, Xia Weichi resented Yu Kunian because this sole opportunity to save Song Wenzhi had turned into a bubble. She resented Yu Kunian’s departure, which could even be counted as Yu Kunian’s first abandonment. Yet, the helplessness lay in the fact that Yu Kunian didn’t know any of this, so she shouldn’t have been resented.
Yu Kunian wasn’t at fault; it was just that the joke fate played was too cruel.
It gave hope only to shatter it by hand.
Back then, Xia Weichi wasn’t yet a partner in the International Medical Organization. She was just a doctor who had studied abroad. Faced with Song Wenzhi’s condition, she was at a loss and filled with anxiety. Her knowledge couldn’t help Song Wenzhi. Every time she watched the Omega shed tears—or even faint—from the pain in her gland, she hated herself.
She hated her own incompetence and her own insignificance.
Xia Weichi had desperately wanted to search the whole world to find Yu Kunian. She was willing to beg, to go without sleep, just to ask Yu Kunian to come back. But at that time, she didn’t have the power. She was still an incompetent person who couldn’t break away from her family; she couldn’t even manage to search all of Yin City.
So, Xia Weichi studied frantically. She switched her focus to Omega research, even though everyone disagreed. Yet, despite her change in status and becoming a partner with a reputation in New York, she remained powerless to cure Song Wenzhi’s illness.
The only thing she could do was develop a specialized inhibitor for Song Wenzhi. Over the years, she helped alleviate the condition, but the Omega’s state fluctuated. Xia Weichi couldn’t do any better. Song Wenzhi could barely live a normal life, and they both tried to forget Yu Kunian.
Xia Weichi never stopped looking for a solution, but cases of damaged Omega glands varied. In most situations, they couldn’t be cured. If one wasn’t careful and an accident occurred with the gland, the Omega’s life would be in danger.
“The current situation isn’t as bad as it was at the very beginning. However, Xiao Zhi’s gland cannot undergo a lifetime marking, and she will develop an absolute dependence on temporary markings while rejecting the pheromones of any Alpha other than you. Furthermore, after a temporary marking, in the future absence of your pheromones, the pain reflected by the gland will double, and the required inhibitors will also double. Therefore, unless she decides to entrust her entire life to you, she will not allow you to mark her.”
For Song Wenzhi, a temporary marking meant forever.
