The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 89.1
I Missed You So Much After the Divorce
“Yu Kunian, do you know what you’re saying?” Song Wenzhi’s breathing grew erratic. She could hardly believe Yu Kunian’s words and felt compelled to confirm them one more time.
The Alpha in her arms rubbed her cheek against Song Wenzhi’s neck and replied, “I know exactly what I’m saying, Zhizhi. I’m confessing to you. I’m telling you that I love you, and I love only you… I’m sorry, Zhizhi. Can you ever forgive me? Can you please not leave me?”
Yu Kunian wept uncontrollably. She had lost all her leverage; when it came to Song Wenzhi, she didn’t even have the standing to negotiate. She could only beg, clinging to the Omega helplessly. The warmth of the embrace was so addictive that the Alpha discarded all pretense of dignity, clinging to Song Wenzhi like an octopus, terrified that this rare moment of tenderness would vanish in the next second.
Song Wenzhi was being held so tightly she could barely breathe. The scent of mint at the tip of her nose caused her scent glands to spiral out of control. Sweat soaked through her pheromone blocker patch. The Omega’s fingers twitched. “Yu Kunian, let go of me a little first.”
“If I let go, you’ll leave,” Yu Kunian countered.
“I won’t leave,” Song Wenzhi nudged her. “Yu Kunian, the floor is too cold. It’s uncomfortable.”
Yu Kunian hadn’t noticed; she felt numb. But hearing Song Wenzhi say this, she hurriedly stumbled to her feet. As she pulled the Omega up with her, the Alpha nearly tripped again, ultimately pulling Song Wenzhi back into a desperate embrace as they both tumbled onto the sofa.
The sound of faint panting echoed in their ears.
Yu Kunian lowered her head. In the dim living room, she could just make out the Omega’s moist eyes. A tear from the Alpha accidentally slid down and landed on Song Wenzhi’s cheek. Yu Kunian knelt on the sofa, her leg pressing against Song Wenzhi’s thigh. She slowly reached out and wiped away the tear that didn’t belong to the Omega.
Her thumb brushed against the cheek, leaving a trail of moisture. The Omega sat there, the distance between them feeling cramped due to the Alpha’s proximity. Song Wenzhi’s thoughts were a chaotic mess. She instinctively averted her gaze, but Yu Kunian couldn’t help but move her fingertips to the corner of Song Wenzhi’s eye, stroking it gently.
It was an act of comfort, perhaps meant to brush away tears that Song Wenzhi hadn’t yet shed.
The extreme proximity allowed them to hear each other’s heartbeats. Song Wenzhi lowered her eyelids until they were nearly closed. She whispered, “Yu Kunian…”
“I’m listening,” Yu Kunian’s voice was terribly hoarse. After withdrawing her hand, she paused before adding, “Zhizhi, I don’t expect you to forgive me. Whatever you choose, I will accept it. But please, don’t… don’t stay away from me, okay?”
Yu Kunian’s only extravagant wish was to still be able to see Song Wenzhi—even if they didn’t speak a word, even if they never shared a look.
The Omega raised a hand to cover the back of her neck. she frowned slightly, truly feeling that everything was happening too suddenly. She didn’t want to make an impulsive decision. “I need time to think, Yu Kunian.”
“As long as you need. Just don’t let me lose sight of you,” Yu Kunian promised. Then, she added in a muffled voice, “Zhizhi, can I go to the research institute to find you?”
At this, Song Wenzhi looked up at her. The Alpha was looking down at her pitifully, the tear stains still clearly visible on her face. The Omega’s breath hitched. She couldn’t bring herself to say no. Ultimately, she only said, “I’m very busy. I won’t have time to look after you.”
“You don’t have to mind me, Zhizhi. You can pretend I don’t exist. I just want to watch you; that’s enough.”
Song Wenzhi’s eyelashes trembled. She didn’t say anything.
How could she pretend she didn’t exist? As long as Yu Kunian was there, she wouldn’t be able to ignore her. Her gaze would instinctively seek out the Alpha, just like when Yu Kunian was working as an assistant—she would get distracted, her mind wandering to her.
Yu Kunian assumed her silence meant she was making things difficult for Song Wenzhi, so she took a step back. “Then I won’t go inside the institute, okay?”
Song Wenzhi bit her lip. The scent of coconut candy could no longer be suppressed as the blocker patch lost its adhesion and peeled away at a corner. In a room filled with the scent of mint, the Omega’s pheromones were released abruptly and non-aggressively. Like a ray of warm light in the winter cold, it was faint but impossible to ignore, making one want to draw closer.
The sweetness began to spread outward from Song Wenzhi. Her pheromones gradually became a soothing balm for Yu Kunian’s rut, causing the aggressive edge of the mint scent to weaken bit by bit.
“Yu Kunian, I’m not good at raising Eustoma flowers,” Song Wenzhi said out of the blue. After speaking, she tilted her head up and reached out to grab the hem of Yu Kunian’s coat, finally meeting her eyes.
Yu Kunian was still dazed by the scent of coconut candy, but hearing those words, her whole body froze.
Then, the Alpha smiled.
Yu Kunian bowed her head, her vision blurring, but the smile on her lips widened. “I’ll raise them. I’ll be the gardener and take good care of them.”
Song Wenzhi had noticed today that the Eustoma on her office desk were about to wither. She couldn’t keep them alive.
Perhaps it was because the Alpha who gave them was no longer around, so they had gone on strike.
Those Eustomas needed Yu Kunian. Those bouquets of roses needed Yu Kunian too.
Yu Kunian moved closer again, pulling Song Wenzhi back into her arms. Crying and laughing at the same time, she said, “Zhizhi, I love you. I love only you.”
The Omega’s ears, hidden in the shadows, turned bright red. She pulled her hand back and turned her head away, saying softly, “Go back to the bedroom and rest.”
Yu Kunian didn’t move. “Are you leaving?”
Song Wenzhi said, “I’ll wait until you’re a bit better. You need my pheromones right now.”
The Omega’s pheromones had been released involuntarily, but her choice to provide soothing pheromones for Yu Kunian was intentional. Song Wenzhi couldn’t bear to see Yu Kunian in such pain. At the very least, she wanted to help her get through today.
Yu Kunian was ecstatic. She was surprised by Song Wenzhi’s relenting and even more thrilled by her concern. For a moment, she almost forgot how to walk when she stood up. She didn’t dare grab the Omega’s hand; she simply waited for Song Wenzhi to stand before they entered the bedroom together.
The discomfort brought on by the rut seemed to be replaced by the joy of the moment. The Alpha took off her coat, her eyes never leaving Song Wenzhi. The Omega turned to switch on the light. When she squinted and looked back, she caught sight of the necklace around Yu Kunian’s neck.
Hanging from her chest was that all-too-familiar ring. Song Wenzhi froze, her eyes lingering on it instinctively.
Following her gaze, Yu Kunian looked down and clutched it in her hand. The wedding ring still on her finger also caught the Omega’s eye. Song Wenzhi’s thoughts drifted back to the past. Beneath her sleeve, her fingertips brushed against the spot on her own finger where a mark had long since faded. Her expression remained calm, but ripples formed in her heart.
She had been so happy when she first put the ring on. Looking back now, she felt she had been too impulsive.
Impulsive in making decisions, without a shred of doubt.
Song Wenzhi thought that she could try to trust Yu Kunian, but she needed time. She needed time to confirm the Alpha’s sincerity, time to smooth over the long-lasting pain of the past, and time to slowly stop being so guarded when facing her.
She couldn’t immediately accept Yu Kunian’s advances, even if she didn’t find the Alpha’s touch repulsive. However, whenever Yu Kunian tried to take their relationship a step further, she would feel panicked and anxious. Song Wenzhi felt she wasn’t entirely ready to restart this relationship.
The Omega didn’t know when she would be ready.
But she believed now that the “love” Yu Kunian spoke of wasn’t a lie. Those repeated declarations of “I love you” weren’t falsehoods but sincere outpourings. The Alpha’s eyes were burning with intensity; those eyes did not lie.
Yet Song Wenzhi wondered how long Yu Kunian was willing to wait for her. If she could never move past what happened in Lihua City, would Yu Kunian eventually leave?
Unable to guess the answer and unable to ask, she watched Yu Kunian sit on the bed. The Alpha’s smile was radiant, making it even harder to ask.
“It’s a keepsake,” Yu Kunian explained, the wedding ring in her palm—the one belonging to Song Wenzhi—feeling warm. “I missed you so much after the divorce.”
The Alpha always tried to find traces of Song Wenzhi on the ring, but once the wedding ring was removed from the Omega’s finger, it lost all its warmth. Yu Kunian knew her realization had come late, but by now, there was no doubt: she had to have Song Wenzhi.
Song Wenzhi averted her eyes. She gave a soft “Mm,” and then, avoiding the subject, she turned to pull a chair to the bedside. “It’s late. You should sleep.”
A hint of loneliness touched Yu Kunian’s eyes, but Song Wenzhi turned off the light and sat in the chair. The moonlight faintly outlined the Omega’s silhouette, obscuring the Alpha’s view. The room fell into an absolute silence.
When changing, Song Wenzhi’s back was to Yu Kunian. Rustling sounds came from the Alpha’s side. The Omega didn’t look, but her mind conjured the movements Yu Kunian would be making. During their marriage, there were many times Yu Kunian changed in front of her. The images felt as if they were right before her eyes, causing Song Wenzhi’s face to flush deep red again. She squeezed her palms, trying to steady her breathing.
“Done,” Yu Kunian whispered, her voice still raspy.
