The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 80
“Can you… let me get just a little bit closer to you?”
Song Wenzhi was astonished to see Yu Kunian, especially a Yu Kunian like this.
Tonight, the partners at the research institute had a dinner engagement, so Xia Weichi had not left work with Song Wenzhi. This, however, became Yu Kunian’s opportunity.
“President Yu?” Song Wenzhi stepped forward, leaning down to speak.
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Yu Kunian looked up abruptly. Song Wenzhi’s gaze met hers; the Omega was staring at her, noticing the flush on her cheeks under the glow of the streetlights and the heavy scent of alcohol clinging to her.
Song Wenzhi frowned slightly. “Have you been drinking a lot?”
Yu Kunian’s eyes remained fixed on Song Wenzhi. In her semi-conscious state, she instinctively flashed a smile at her, then stood up somewhat unsteadily by bracing herself against the wall behind her. She spoke softly: “Song Wenzhi…”
Her voice was as light as a feather brushing against an ear. Song Wenzhi’s fingertips paused. Their eyes locked; the Alpha’s amber eyes were misty from the alcohol, making them seem even more intoxicating.
Song Wenzhi instinctively wanted to step back, but Yu Kunian grabbed her sleeve. The Alpha stared straight at her and said, “Song Wenzhi, I am Yu Kunian, not… not President Yu.”
Yu Kunian still cared deeply about how the Omega addressed her.
Song Wenzhi withdrew her gaze. She didn’t pull away, but simply said, “You’re drunk.”
“I’m not,” Yu Kunian retorted, her brow furrowing. She was becoming unable to distinguish reality from hallucination and began to pour out her heart: “I miss you so much. I miss you every single day.”
Hearing this, Song Wenzhi pulled her hand away. She said nothing and didn’t even look at her.
“Can you please not push me away? Can you… let me get just a little bit closer to you?” Yu Kunian raised her hand to make a small gesture. “Just a little bit.”
Song Wenzhi did not answer; perhaps, she simply couldn’t. Instead, the Omega turned around. The night wind was cold, but it made her feel exceptionally clear-headed. “President Yu, where do you live? I’ll call a taxi to send you back.”
Hearing Song Wenzhi’s avoidant question, Yu Kunian followed and leaned in closer. “I don’t have a home anymore… Zhizhi, am I truly not important to you at all anymore?”
Ever since her divorce from Song Wenzhi, she had no home. What Yu Kunian missed immensely was the home she had with Song Wenzhi—wherever the Omega was. Now, Song Wenzhi seemed to no longer need her or care about her; she had become dispensable and insignificant.
This aggrieved questioning finally forced Song Wenzhi to look back at the Alpha. They were very close—so close that Yu Kunian’s breath brushed against Song Wenzhi’s cheek. The Omega froze in place, her heart racing, and the words she was about to speak died in her throat.
She was always prone to softening her heart because of Yu Kunian’s vulnerability. Yet, she was always terrified that it was just a mask.
Song Wenzhi pursed her lips tightly. Facing Yu Kunian, the things she wanted to say were always difficult to voice. She wanted to ask why the Alpha had followed her to New York, and why she kept trying to insert herself into her life… but the answers she might receive wouldn’t necessarily be the truth.
Had Yu Kunian really changed? Or was she just after some kind of benefit again?
The cold wind tousled the Omega’s hair, soft strands fluttering across her eyes. Song Wenzhi lowered her gaze, her voice faint: “President Yu, you’ve had too much to drink.”
Not every question can be asked easily. Song Wenzhi didn’t want to keep guessing whether Yu Kunian was lying or being deceptive. She would rather not ask at all and just let it go; she’d rather keep it bottled up in her heart than ask questions that led nowhere.
Mist gathered in Yu Kunian’s eyes again. The wind made her eyes feel dry and the flushed corners of her eyes sting. She didn’t respond, but after looking at Song Wenzhi for a moment, she suddenly moved forward, reaching out her hand to tuck back the Omega’s messy hair just as she used to do.
But she hadn’t expected Song Wenzhi to step back.
Yu Kunian was already unsteady. In her lack of balance, her outstretched hand found no support. Seeing the Omega retreat, her thoughts stalled for a second; in her dazed state, she lost her footing. She didn’t sprain her ankle, but as she fell to the ground, her knee hit hard, seemingly scraping the skin.
Everything happened too fast. By the time Song Wenzhi snapped back to reality, Yu Kunian had already let out a muffled groan and fallen to the ground. The Alpha lay there motionless. The Omega rushed to crouch down, her expression flickering with concern. “Are you alright?”
Yu Kunian braced herself against the ground, trying to stand up, but the sharp pain from her knee caused a layer of cold sweat to break out on her forehead. With a trembling gasp, the Alpha reached out blindly and unconsciously grabbed Song Wenzhi’s hand.
Well, now it had truly become a “bitter trap” (a ploy to gain sympathy).
Using Song Wenzhi’s strength to stand, Yu Kunian could only hunch over with her leg bent. Unable to stand steadily, she bowed her head and whispered, “Not very well.”
Song Wenzhi couldn’t worry about anything else. She frowned at Yu Kunian’s pale face, draped Yu Kunian’s hand over her own shoulder, and held her to keep the Alpha steady. “Is it serious?”
Yu Kunian’s fingertips trembled slightly. She said, “I don’t know.” But seeing Song Wenzhi’s grave expression because of her, she changed her tune: “It’s fine, it’s not serious.”
The effects of the alcohol seemed to dissipate quite a bit in that moment. Yu Kunian stared at Song Wenzhi, biting her lip and looking down, sensing the heat from the Omega’s palm against her waist—a heat she desperately craved.
“There is medicine in the institute.” Song Wenzhi looked at the bit of dirt on the knee of Yu Kunian’s jeans. Though the pants weren’t torn, her knee might be bleeding, so the Omega wanted to check the injury first. “I’ll take you inside to take care of it.”
Yu Kunian didn’t refuse. Although her limping was slow and awkward, Song Wenzhi was still holding her waist; for a moment, she wanted to walk even slower. The Omega stayed close to her, her eyes occasionally checking her leg, completely unaware of Yu Kunian’s intense gaze.
Despite the pain in her knee, the Alpha began to smile. She was intoxicated by the sight of Song Wenzhi’s silhouette. After walking a few steps, Yu Kunian desperately wanted to lean down and nuzzle the Omega’s hair with her nose, but she didn’t dare cross that line.
They took the elevator upstairs. Song Wenzhi pulled her into her office to sit and turned to find the first-aid kit. Yu Kunian leaned against the desk, looking around, and noticed a few fresh roses in a vase on Song Wenzhi’s desk.
The brilliant red seared into the Alpha’s vision. Yu Kunian stared for a long time without moving until Song Wenzhi sat down beside her with the kit and said, “President Yu, let me see the injury.”
“I sent you flowers,” Yu Kunian said suddenly, out of nowhere.
Song Wenzhi didn’t understand. “What?”
Yu Kunian turned to look at the Omega, her expression serious as she repeated, “The flowers I sent you included roses. Do you like them?”
Hearing this, Song Wenzhi glanced at the vase on the desk and remained silent.
On the day she finished her probationary period, she had indeed found a bouquet with a few roses in it. Before they withered, that bouquet had been sitting in this office. So, they were from Yu Kunian.
Seeing that Song Wenzhi didn’t answer, Yu Kunian leaned in a bit closer. “Zhizhi, do you like them?”
“I don’t remember.” Song Wenzhi snapped back to reality and gave a vague answer before saying, “Let me see your wound.”
The scent of alcohol from Yu Kunian’s body wafted past her nose. Song Wenzhi remained patient only because the Alpha was drunk. She deliberately ignored Yu Kunian’s persistent questioning and rolled up the pant leg.
The knee was indeed scraped, and the surrounding area was already turning bruised. Song Wenzhi treated it carefully, her brows furrowing deeper unconsciously.
Yu Kunian complied with her, but in the quiet atmosphere, as the cold sweat on her forehead faded, her sober thoughts were overtaken by intoxication again. Following Song Wenzhi’s movements with her eyes, she couldn’t help but call out: “Zhizhi.”
“Hmm?” Song Wenzhi responded instinctively, but her movements paused a moment later.
Yu Kunian didn’t say anything else; she just called Song Wenzhi’s name again. The Omega didn’t respond this time. After finishing the treatment, she said “All done,” and quickly stood up to put some distance between herself and Yu Kunian.
Yu Kunian’s gaze followed her as she stood, her eyes filled with confusion. She tried to get up, but Song Wenzhi stopped her: “President Yu, don’t move yet.”
Yu Kunian sat back down, met Song Wenzhi’s eyes, and said, “I’m no longer the president of Zhaoming Biotech. Zhizhi, I don’t have any titles now… I want to hear you call me by my name. Is that okay?”
The drunken Alpha was sincerely making a request. In that moment, the Omega actually thought Yu Kunian looked pitiful. She found it hard to refuse and didn’t want to argue with someone who was already drunk, so she compromised: “Fine, Yu Kunian. Is that okay?”
The corners of Yu Kunian’s mouth lifted slightly. “It sounds good.”
The sound of Song Wenzhi calling her name was truly beautiful.
“Where do you live?” Song Wenzhi checked the time, intending not to waste any more time at the institute. “I’ll send you back first.”
Yu Kunian simply played dumb. “I don’t know.”
Since a drunk Alpha’s consciousness is chaotic, it’s possible to say “I don’t know” to everything. Yu Kunian felt self-righteously confident in her pretense.
Song Wenzhi reached out her hand. “Give me your phone.”
Yu Kunian looked away. “Phone… I don’t know where it is either.”
Yu Kunian didn’t know if this was a ridiculous method, but she was truly at her wits’ end. Since she had already started the “bitter trap,” she might as well play it to the end.
“Yu Kunian.” Song Wenzhi sighed. She wasn’t sure how much Yu Kunian had drunk; she had never seen Yu Kunian drunk before, and now she couldn’t tell if the person was truly wasted or faking it.
Seeing that Song Wenzhi was about to search her person, Yu Kunian had no choice but to take out her phone and hand it to the Omega. The password was the same as her previous phone, and Song Wenzhi unlocked it easily. The Alpha didn’t have many contacts—just colleagues from the Alliance and Cheng Lu.
Song Wenzhi remembered the name “Cheng Lu,” as she was the friend Yu Kunian had mentioned earlier that day. So, Song Wenzhi dialed Cheng Lu’s number.
The person on the other end didn’t answer very quickly, their voice sounding lazy: “What is it?”
Song Wenzhi said, “You are Yu Kunian’s friend, right? She’s with me right now and she’s drunk. Do you have time to come pick her up?”
Hearing a strange voice, Cheng Lu was startled for a moment before asking, “May I ask who you are?”
“My last name is Song, Song Wenzhi.”
This name was all too familiar to Cheng Lu. “Miss Song, what’s her situation?”
Song Wenzhi said, “I don’t know why she’s drunk, and she took a fall. I don’t know her home address, so I might have to trouble you to come and take her back.”
Hearing this, Cheng Lu first chuckled to herself. The planned ‘bitter trap’ turned into ‘drunk and making a scene’? She couldn’t help but mock Yu Kunian’s behavior in her heart. Then, she lied without blinking an eye: “I’m sorry, Miss Song, I don’t know her address either. I’m not very close with her.” After saying that, Cheng Lu felt something was missing. Sitting on the top floor of her company, she added:
“And I’m not in New York personally right now, so I can’t help.”
“Then do you know any other close friends of hers?”
“I’m not sure.”
Song Wenzhi frowned. She looked back at Yu Kunian, not knowing what to do for a moment. “I understand. Sorry to bother you, Miss Cheng.”
Before the call ended, Cheng Lu deliberately added: “If Miss Song really can’t find anyone, just let her sleep outside. She probably won’t die.”
Song Wenzhi stood stunned with the disconnected phone. she couldn’t agree with Cheng Lu’s words. It was so cold at night; how could she leave Yu Kunian to sleep outside? The Omega began to doubt the quality of the friends Yu Kunian kept.
Tucking the phone back into Yu Kunian’s hand, Song Wenzhi met Yu Kunian’s gaze and heard the Alpha say in a muffled voice, “My head hurts a bit.”
Yu Kunian raised her hand to rub her temples. Perhaps due to the high concentration of alcohol, she had a splitting headache. Song Wenzhi had no other choice but to support Yu Kunian out of the institute, hail a taxi, and take her to her own home.
Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi lived in the same building but on different floors. The Omega’s room was always tidy; though it was small, it was very cozy. Song Wenzhi helped Yu Kunian to the sofa in the living room. Before she could turn on the light, she was suddenly pulled down by the lying Yu Kunian.
Song Wenzhi fell into Yu Kunian’s embrace. Yu Kunian gripped her wrist tightly. In the dim space, the Alpha whispered as if talking to herself, “The sofa is a bit small… not enough room for two people to lie down.”
Song Wenzhi forgot to struggle, listening to her own heavy heartbeat.
This wasn’t Lihua City, nor was it Yu Kunian’s house. There wasn’t that spacious sofa where they could lie together and snuggle into each other’s arms. Yet, those days seemed to play vividly before her eyes. The warmth of Yu Kunian burying her head in the crook of her neck seemed to linger, making Song Wenzhi’s breath suddenly hitch.
It was the past, and it was a memory she couldn’t forget.
Song Wenzhi pursed her lips tightly. A moment later, she wrenched her wrist from Yu Kunian’s grip. Ignoring Yu Kunian’s soft call, she hurriedly got up and went to the bathroom.
In the mirror, the Omega’s expression seemed normal, but only Song Wenzhi knew how chaotic and complex her emotions were right now. The feeling of sleeping on the sofa had become somewhat blurred; only the scenes of embracing and kissing Yu Kunian remained crystal clear. Song Wenzhi raised her hand, her fingertips slowly sliding up her fair neck, coming to a stop at her lips.
