The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 63
“Is it absolutely necessary for her to have Song Wenzhi?”
Yu Kunian lingered at the entrance of Xia Weichi’s home for a long time. Her thoughts were a chaotic mess in the dim light, and her only remaining shred of hope had been completely shattered. Staring at the tightly closed door, although she could hear nothing, she couldn’t help but let her imagination run wild.
Song Wenzhi would speak gently to that Alpha; she would smile at Xia Weichi the way she used to smile at her—at the very least, she wouldn’t reject Xia Weichi.
Yu Kunian crouched down, covering her cheeks with her hands. Trembling breaths escaped through her fingers as the Alpha closed her eyes, unable to calm her heart.
Is it absolutely necessary for her to have Song Wenzhi? Yu Kunian thought.
She had always felt that since she chose Song Wenzhi, she should remain steadfast. This marriage was a choice she had personally made and intended to sustain for a lifetime, which was why she was always so unwilling to accept a divorce. But in reality, was she truly unable to live without Song Wenzhi?
To be honest, Yu Kunian didn’t know.
Song Wenzhi wasn’t the only one looking haggard; Yu Kunian was too. Because of recent events, she was exhausted to the point of collapse, unable to maintain logic or absolute clarity. The Alpha only wanted… only wanted to end all of this quickly—to end all these messy and unbearable things.
Yu Kunian sat at the doorstep like that, appearing as if she didn’t intend to leave at all tonight. But after a long period of staring blankly in a daze, she received a text message from Yu Sheng.
Yu Kunian hadn’t gone to the company for the past few days, and Song Wenzhi had also taken leave. However, since the two of them were no longer together, Yu Dai and Yang Jin soon learned of Song Wenzhi’s intention to divorce. If it hadn’t been for the fabricated scandal surrounding Yu Kunian a few days ago, Yu Dai would likely have gone to the villa to find her much sooner.
The issue with the rumors had been resolved, and Yu Dai hurried over tonight, desperate to know the progress of the divorce. Yu Sheng had sent the message to tip her off.
Yu Kunian finally stood up. Her legs were somewhat numb. She leaned against the wall to steady herself for a moment, looking once more at that closed door. The Alpha’s gaze was burning; the image of Song Wenzhi’s face lingered in her mind, refuses to fade. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if she was simply obsessed with this marriage or if it was truly because of Song Wenzhi.
The Alpha left silently. Once back in her car, Yu Sheng’s phone call happened to ring, and Yu Kunian picked up.
“Sister, Mother has invited people from the Li family over,” Yu Sheng said hurriedly as soon as the call connected.
Yu Kunian lowered her eyes, appearing somewhat calm as she asked, “What are they here for?”
“To discuss… an alliance,” Yu Sheng said hesitantly. Feeling that Yu Kunian would be angry, she quickly added a follow-up question: “Sister, did you see Sister Wenzhi?”
Yu Dai was relentlessly trying to arrange a marriage between her and Li Ci; she had even invited them over the moment she heard Song Wenzhi wanted a divorce. This caused a flash of disgust to cross Yu Kunian’s eyes.
Yu Kunian paused for a moment before answering, “I saw her.”
“Then… then what did Sister Wenzhi say? Does she still want to divorce you?” Yu Sheng still felt guilty. If it hadn’t been for her taking matters into her own hands, Song Wenzhi wouldn’t have heard those words, and perhaps she wouldn’t be divorcing now.
Yu Kunian said, “Yes.” She didn’t want to talk about it much further, so she asked, “Among the Li family people who came, is Li Ci there?”
Yu Sheng said, “No, it’s Madam Li who came.”
Yu Kunian started the car. “Understood. I’m coming back now.”
Yu Sheng wanted to ask more, but she hesitated and ultimately just gave an affirmative response, saying nothing else before hanging up.
Yu Kunian was no longer as furious or unable to stay calm as before. On the way back, she appeared exceptionally tranquil, as if she weren’t the least bit angry at Yu Dai’s actions. There were few cars on the road, and Yu Kunian drove fast. She rolled down half the window, letting the cold wind pour in and blow the Alpha’s hair into a mess.
The lights of the villa were bright. Yu Kunian parked the car and, no longer caring about her image, walked straight inside.
On the sofa on the first floor, Yu Dai was speaking with Madam Li. Yu Sheng was sitting to the side. Upon seeing Yu Kunian return from the corner of her eye, she immediately stood up. “Sister, you’re back.”
Hearing this, both Yu Dai and Madam Li looked toward Yu Kunian.
Madam Li, whom she had met once before at Lihua University, looked at her with a warm expression. Once Yu Kunian approached and stopped, she spoke: “President Yu, we meet again.”
Yu Kunian shook her hand. “President Li, I trust you have been well.”
Yu Dai, with a stern face, asked her, “Where have you been so late?”
Yu Kunian answered her promptly, “I went to meet my wife.”
As soon as the words fell, the atmosphere turned silent for a moment. Madam Li’s expression clearly changed, and Yu Dai’s face darkened even further as she scolded, “Yu Kunian, that Professor Song was the one who brought up the divorce first. Why are you still going there to throw yourself at her?”
“Because I want to,” Yu Kunian said without changing her expression.
Yu Dai stared at her with a heavy gaze. Saying nothing more, she simply told her to sit down and talk properly with Madam Li. Yu Kunian clearly had nothing to say; even if she divorced Song Wenzhi, she would not enter an alliance with the Li family.
“I heard you and Cici have met,” Madam Li spoke first, having regained her composure.
Although the rumors were fabricated, the photos of Li Ci and her being entangled were real. It was just that Shen Qi hadn’t been caught in the frame, so anyone who saw them would naturally think they were being intimate.
Yu Kunian met Madam Li’s gaze and said, “We’ve met. It’s not a good fit.”
The words were somewhat unexpected. Yu Dai immediately interrupted, “Yu Kunian, what are you talking about? What do you mean ‘not a good fit’? What nonsense are you saying?”
Yu Kunian added unhurriedly, “Miss Li and I are not a good fit. From head to toe, there isn’t a single place where we match. I will say it one more time: I will not enter into an alliance with her.”
“You!” Yu Dai grew incensed, pointing at her and not knowing what to say.
On the contrary, Madam Li appeared quite calm. Although some of the warmth faded from her eyes, she maintained a smile and spoke: “Could it be that our Cici did something wrong to make President Yu dissatisfied? If there is, please feel free to say so.”
Yu Kunian looked at Madam Li. Her face had been cold from the moment she entered, projecting an air of arrogance. “President Li, your daughter is not the problem. I am the one with the problem.” She knew very well that Madam Li’s words were just formalities. Li Ci had been spoiled to the point of lawlessness since childhood; as for the claims of her being well-behaved and sensible to the outside world, only Madam Li herself believed them. Yu Kunian was too lazy to even expose it.
Madam Li stopped Yu Dai from lashing out and continued to ask, “President Yu, why be so self-deprecating? I clearly feel that you are very good, and very suitable to join forces with the Li family to create further brilliance.”
“Is President Li not worried that after your daughter enters the Yu family, she will be subjected to endless surveillance?” Yu Kunian glanced at Yu Dai, a hint of self-mockery pulling at her lips. “If she is with me, then surveillance and control are unavoidable. If things do not go as my mother wishes, she might even receive merciless rebukes… President Li, are you willing to let your precious daughter follow me and live a life that is never at peace?”
Emotions swirled in the Alpha’s eyes. Her smile widened, yet it appeared increasingly cold and detached, her gaze eerie. “Does Madam Li think she knows why my wife wants to divorce me so quickly?” Yu Kunian simply said it that way, since they didn’t know the real reason for Song Wenzhi’s divorce anyway. “President Li, you should think it over carefully. I am truly doing this for your own good, and for the good of your precious daughter.”
“Member Yu, I think today might not be suitable for discussing the alliance. Perhaps we can talk next time.” The warmth had vanished from Madam Li’s face. She glanced at Yu Kunian and then looked at Yu Dai with an unpleasant expression. “No need to see me out, I’m leaving.”
Yu Dai didn’t have time to explain or prevent Madam Li from departing. Watching the figure disappear from the villa, she turned to look at Yu Kunian and said in a harsh tone, “Yu Kunian, what are you doing? Are you trying to fabricate a family scandal?”
Yes, family scandals should not be aired in public.
But if Yu Kunian didn’t do this, there was no way to make Madam Li feel disgusted with her. If she continued to be polite, she would instead become a candidate the Li family was satisfied with. Therefore, she would rather make herself loathsome and blacken the Yu family’s name just to dispel Madam Li’s thoughts of an alliance.
“Mother, is what I said not true?” Yu Kunian suppressed her smile and asked in return. “Since I was a child, your desire for control over me has been extremely strong. You didn’t allow me to do this or that. Before my differentiation, my life had to follow your arrangements. You had to manage who I befriended and when I went out, and you even sent people to watch me… Even now, you are still monitoring me from time to time. Is what I said not true?”
Yu Kunian’s tone carried a few hints of undeniable resentment. “Even Zhaoming Biotech has to be under your control. I have to listen to you in everything; I can’t even make decisions about my own affairs! Mother, I want to ask you, I am 24 years old now, long past being that undifferentiated child. Just how much longer do you intend to control me?”
Yu Dai was speechless for a long while. She hadn’t expected Yu Kunian to question her like this. Her Alpha daughter was facing her with red eyes, so full of grievance and collapse.
“Kunian, I am doing this for your own good,” Yu Dai said, but this time, she wasn’t as self-righteous as before.
Yu Kunian let out a cold laugh. “If it’s for my own good, then you should let me make my own decisions. I don’t need anyone to pave the way for me. From the moment Zhaoming Biotech was founded, I have been constantly restrained; there hasn’t been a single day when the company wasn’t under your control. Mother, I have my own thoughts, and I can make my own judgments. I don’t need you to strategize for me—Mother, don’t you feel that your desire for control has reached an almost pathological level?”
Yu Dai remained silent for a long time. She gazed at Yu Kunian quietly for a while before finally compromising slightly: “Fine… I can yield to you on other things, but regarding the crisis Zhaoming Biotech is facing right now, it is imminent. Shouldn’t you listen to me?”
“And your advice is to break up my marriage?”
“It was your Omega who brought up the divorce first.”
“That is my business; there’s no need to involve the company.”
Yu Dai was clearly baffled by her persistence. Zhaoming Biotech was already in a precarious state, yet Yu Kunian still refused to accept the most cost-effective alliance plan. “Kunian, if you continue to refuse, your company will be completely finished.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian stood up. Her gaze moved from Yu Dai to the nearby Yu Sheng. After a moment, she spoke unhurriedly: “What if it’s no longer my company?”
“Kunian, what do you mean?” Yu Dai frowned, following Yu Kunian’s gaze to look at Yu Sheng.
Yu Kunian said, “I know the board of directors already has many opinions about me. They should be discussing my removal in the coming days. I might not be able to solve the crisis at Zhaoming Biotech, but perhaps Xiao Sheng can.” As she spoke, Yu Kunian walked toward Yu Sheng. Amidst the Omega’s astonished expression, she added, “I have decided to no longer hold the position of CEO of Zhaoming Biotech. I recommend Xiao Sheng to take over, and I fully support her in taking charge of the company.”
This decision was clearly unbelievable to both Yu Dai and Yu Sheng. Yu Dai was shocked that Yu Kunian would actually let go of Zhaoming Biotech, while Yu Sheng was surprised that Yu Kunian was willing to hand the company over to her.
“Yu Kunian, have you gone mad?” Yu Dai said sharply.
That was Yu Kunian’s life’s work. Was she really going to compromise and give it up at this critical moment?
Yu Kunian ignored her, raising her hand to pat Yu Sheng’s shoulder. She asked, “Xiao Sheng, can you do it?”
Yu Sheng froze for a long while before replying, “I… I can. Sister, I have many partners who are only willing to work with me right now. If I take over Zhaoming Biotech, I should be able to help the company through the difficulties, fill the deficits, and start new projects.”
Yu Kunian’s current crisis was largely because businesses were unwilling to cooperate with her. Since Yu Sheng brought her own resources, Zhaoming Biotech had a chance to survive this hardship. Once Yu Kunian’s name was removed, someone would surely be willing to step in and help. Furthermore, by letting Yu Sheng take over the company, Yu Dai would have no reason to force Yu Kunian into an alliance.
“I believe in you, Xiao Sheng.” Yu Kunian nodded toward her. “Go ahead and do it.”
The Alpha had known for a long time that Yu Sheng had funds in her hands.
She didn’t want Zhaoming Biotech to restrain her anymore. This crisis was a warning, and also a turning point for her to completely let go. Yu Kunian had been waiting for this opportunity.
“Sister, you, how could you…” Yu Sheng stared blankly at Yu Kunian, not knowing what to say, her breathing quickening slightly. She had originally planned to make her move in a few days; she had already spoken with members of the board, intending to take the opportunity to seize Zhaoming Biotech.
She never expected Yu Kunian would act this way.
A faint smile touched the corner of Yu Kunian’s lips. “Xiao Sheng, just make Zhaoming Biotech even better. Don’t let me down; I’ll be waiting to see your performance.”
From now on, she was no longer Lihua City’s President Yu.
