The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 62
She Seems Like an Unforgivable Villain
Hearing Xia Weichi’s words, Yu Kunian’s gaze instantly chilled by several degrees. She was unwilling to admit the truth, and even more unwilling to let the Alpha before her see through her defeat. She replied, “Does Director Xia have a basis for saying that? I haven’t signed yet. Even if we go through litigation, it will be anything but ‘quick’.”
Xia Weichi seemed entirely unsurprised by Yu Kunian’s response. She gave a cold sneer and said, “President Yu, you truly haven’t exceeded my expectations; your character is indeed worrisome.” She had long known that Yu Kunian was no saint; even regarding the divorce, Song Wenzhi had brought it up several times, yet Yu Kunian had the audacity to keep dragging it out.
“Is Director Xia’s current behavior of taking advantage of someone’s peril really any better?” Yu Kunian didn’t care what Xia Weichi thought of her; she simply didn’t want to bow her head to an Alpha who coveted her Omega. “Song Wenzhi is still my wife right now. Who are you?”
“Aside from being a wife, Wenzhi has a life with friends. I am a close friend who has been with her for many years. Is there a problem?” Xia Weichi dropped any pretense of friendliness. “President Yu, since you can barely protect yourself right now, there’s no need to waste your mental energy on a divorce lawsuit. Save your strength to save yourself so you don’t lose too miserably. Don’t you think?”
Clearly, Xia Weichi was well aware of Yu Kunian’s recent situation. Various rumors were cropping up one after another, and Zhaoming Biotech was still in the midst of a crisis. Regarding all this, Xia Weichi only had one thing to say: “You deserve it.”
“My affairs are of no concern to Director Xia. As for the question of whether the divorce will go to litigation, perhaps if it’s dragged out for a bit, Zhizhi will change her mind.” Though she said this, Yu Kunian didn’t actually feel that way; Song Wenzhi’s attitude was exceptionally resolute.
Upon hearing this, Xia Weichi’s expression finally shifted. She became somewhat incensed and stepped closer to Yu Kunian, saying, “Yu Kunian, haven’t you hurt Wenzhi enough? You want to drag this out even longer, intentionally torturing her?”
“What do you mean, Director Xia?” Yu Kunian did not agree with her words. “I believe there was nothing wrong with my marriage to Zhizhi; it was always good. I never hurt her. Before this, we lived very happily. You don’t understand the interaction between Zhizhi and me, so on what grounds do you make these baseless speculations and accusations?”
“On the grounds that Wenzhi is incredibly miserable right now! Do you even know—”
Xia Weichi pointed a finger at her, stopping mid-sentence. Yu Kunian frowned and pressed, “What about Zhizhi?”
“Yu Kunian, you are indeed an Alpha with outstanding ability in the business world, but when it comes to marriage, you are a complete and utter liar. You let Wenzhi’s sincere heart be misplaced and gave her those absurd promises… I don’t know where you learned those tactics, but none of them can hide the fact that you are cold-blooded, ruthless, selfish, and conceited.” Xia Weichi didn’t answer her directly but instead sharply voiced all her internal perceptions of the woman.
An Alpha whose heart was always full of calculation, praised by others in the business world, would become far too egoistic in marriage. To righteously claim that emotional calculation was a natural thing was enough to make Xia Weichi despise Yu Kunian a thousand times over.
Yu Kunian looked displeased. “Xia Weichi, it is not your place to lecture me.”
“I am merely stating facts, President Yu. To you, our Wenzhi is just a dispensable marriage partner, isn’t she? You have plenty of choices—even the daughter of the Li Group is a backup for you. But Wenzhi is different from you. You don’t value marriage at all; a marriage so perfunctory and devoid of true emotion is suitable for your interest exchanges and business alliances, but it is specifically unsuitable for Wenzhi.”
“No, I only want Zhizhi.”
“All of Wenzhi’s pain stems from you, Yu Kunian. Must you watch Wenzhi waste away in constant suffering? If you have any conscience at all, you should sign the divorce agreement early and stop draining her emotions.” Xia Weichi couldn’t understand Yu Kunian’s stubbornness. She didn’t want to waste any more words. “President Yu isn’t lacking for Omegas. So, I must trouble you to show some mercy and let our Wenzhi go.”
Xia Weichi’s words were incredibly harsh, as if Yu Kunian were a heinous villain. Even her desire not to divorce had become a sharp blade piercing into Song Wenzhi.
Yu Kunian didn’t know how things had developed to this point.
She remained silent for a long time, perhaps because she had nothing to say in response, or perhaps because she disdained to explain. But every word Xia Weichi spoke was branded into Yu Kunian’s heart.
A sense of powerlessness surrounded Yu Kunian. She thought of the Song Wenzhi she had just seen—the Omega was indeed noticeably thinner than before. The Song Wenzhi who once had a faint, flickering smile in her eyes when looking at her now only showed rejection.
In just a few days, the change was so drastic.
Faced with this reality, Yu Kunian could no longer find any arguments to counter Xia Weichi’s accusations.
She was also somewhat dazed. She was the culprit behind everything. She hadn’t intended to go to litigation, but she did want to delay. However, it seemed there truly was no more chance; Song Wenzhi wouldn’t give her another chance.
Xia Weichi said, “Let Wenzhi go.” Yu Kunian’s breath hitched. Had her existence already reached such a point?
“Please leave, President Yu. And please don’t come back. If I see you here again, I will call the police directly,” Xia Weichi said as she watched Yu Kunian daze off. “Also, please sign the divorce agreement as soon as possible and stop bothering Wenzhi.”
Having finished, Xia Weichi didn’t wait for a reply before reopening the door and going back inside, leaving Yu Kunian standing alone and silent in the hallway. The voice-activated light overhead cast a hazy shadow of Yu Kunian. A moment later, the light went out, and the hallway fell into silence. The darkness nearly swallowed her figure as the Alpha leaned against the wall, head lowered, motionless.
Song Wenzhi had changed her scent-blocking patch, but the room still smelled of her coconut candy pheromones. She sat on the edge of the bed looking out the window, the soreness in her nose impossible to dispel.
She had almost compromised because of Yu Kunian’s pheromones, but fortunately, she wasn’t in her heat period and hadn’t lost her senses, allowing her to push Yu Kunian away just now. Song Wenzhi didn’t know what else she could say to get Yu Kunian to agree to the divorce. She truly didn’t want to continue. If the marriage stayed as it was, she would endlessly guess whether Yu Kunian was acting; she might even try to hope for Yu Kunian’s love.
She wanted Yu Kunian to have the same love she had, but she knew Yu Kunian couldn’t give it.
Xia Weichi knocked and entered. She stood at the door, not daring to step further because of Song Wenzhi’s pheromones, and asked, “Wenzhi, are you still hurting a lot?”
Song Wenzhi turned her head. She touched her still-aching gland, her fingertips still trembling slightly. It was a long while before she spoke: “I’ll be fine if I just endure it.”
Before meeting Yu Kunian, she had always endured it this way.
But ever since accepting Yu Kunian’s pheromone soothing and temporary marking, she had never experienced this kind of pain again. It wasn’t until these past few days that the familiar pain returned even more aggressively. Without Yu Kunian’s pheromones, she could only continue to rely on suppressants.
Xia Weichi watched Song Wenzhi suffer like this but was powerless to help. She hated that her own pheromones couldn’t provide relief; in fact, because of Yu Kunian, her pheromones would now have the opposite effect on the Omega.
“Wenzhi, it’s my fault.” Xia Weichi’s eyes were full of self-reproach, her vision blurring at the sight of the Omega’s pain.
If she had known it would be like this, she would have taken Song Wenzhi far away from Yu Kunian at any cost when she first wanted to get married, even if Song Wenzhi would have hated her for it.
“Weichi, this isn’t your problem.” Song Wenzhi’s voice was very soft. Yu Kunian’s image in her mind wouldn’t dissipate. “I love her. I love her hopelessly. The divorce… is because I can’t accept her deception, nor the truth that she doesn’t love me. But I have never regretted getting married.”
She never regretted it—not meeting Yu Kunian, and not the marriage itself.
It was just that the ending was full of regret. She would mourn it, but she would still choose divorce.
Song Wenzhi lowered her head, a curve pulling at the corners of her mouth. Though it was bitter, there was still a trace of a smile. “I am too insatiable. Otherwise, I could have pretended not to know and continued our original life. But I can’t do it.”
She wanted her Alpha to love her wholeheartedly. She wanted Yu Kunian to be able to say “I love you” over and over again.
But in the end, it was wishful thinking and greedy dissatisfaction. Song Wenzhi couldn’t lie to herself.
Xia Weichi’s expression became mournful. Watching Song Wenzhi’s silhouette, she wished she could bear everything for her. She was filled with regret. From the moment she learned Song Wenzhi wanted to divorce Yu Kunian, from the moment she heard the sob in Song Wenzhi’s voice, she had even thought of using underhanded means to make Yu Kunian pay a price, regardless of the consequences.
“Wenzhi,” Xia Weichi couldn’t help but let tears fall. She wiped them away and paused before continuing: “Come away with me. Leave this place.”
Leave Lihua City. Leave this city filled with the scent of heartbreak.
Xia Weichi had suggested taking her away before, and she had always refused without hesitation. But this time, Song Wenzhi was silent for a long time. She rubbed her fingers together, her falling tears feeling as if they were hot enough to burn her skin.
The Omega’s breathing became shaky. She closed her eyes and finally spoke: “Okay. I’ll hand in my resignation to the school tomorrow.”
Anywhere, as long as there was no Yu Kunian.
“We’ll go abroad, to my research institute.” Xia Weichi was overjoyed at Song Wenzhi’s relenting. “Wenzhi, I will find a way to treat you.”
No matter how difficult it was, Xia Weichi would never give up on any possibility of curing Song Wenzhi.
“Thank you, Weichi.” Song Wenzhi was grateful that Xia Weichi was always willing to help her, even running around on her behalf. Without Xia Weichi, she wouldn’t have known where to go after moving out.
Xia Weichi shook her head. “Wenzhi, we’ve known each other for so long, why are you still being so polite?”
Song Wenzhi felt lucky that she still had a friend like Xia Weichi by her side.
“You’ve helped me so much, I don’t know how to repay you,” Song Wenzhi said in a low voice. “I have nothing I can give you as a reward right now.”
Sensing her subtle emotions, Xia Weichi stepped into the bedroom and stopped in front of her. Even though the Omega’s pheromones made her feel uncomfortable, she leaned in slightly and said warmly, “Wenzhi, I don’t need any reward. I want to protect you. I want you to never be hurt again. I want to share all your sorrows, and I can do all of that… So Wenzhi, after you divorce Yu Kunian and we leave Lihua City together, marry me, okay?”
