The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 64
She no longer belonged to her.
Yu Kunian was placed under house arrest by Yu Dai.
Yu Dai believed that Yu Kunian had abandoned Zhaoming Biotech because of Song Wenzhi, driven by a desire to save their marriage. In Yu Dai’s eyes, Kunian’s madness and loss of control were merely results of temporary irrationality; she needed time to cool down. Consequently, Yu Dai confined her to the villa, forbidding her from leaving or meeting with Song Wenzhi ever again.
Meanwhile, news of the dismissal of Zhaoming Biotech’s former CEO had spread throughout the business world. The new “Little CEO Yu,” though an obscure Omega, appeared exceptionally well-prepared. Her first move was to inject funds that filled more than half of the company’s depleted cash flow.
The winds in the commercial sector shifted rapidly. Yu Sheng’s name grew increasingly prominent due to the “resurrection” of Zhaoming Biotech. It was only then that the public realized the Yu family had another daughter besides Yu Kunian. Many companies that had previously looked on Zhaoming’s plight with cold indifference suddenly turned back to negotiate partnerships after seeing Yu Sheng’s capabilities.
While the scale of Yu Sheng’s previous entrepreneurial ventures was not as grand as Zhaoming Biotech, she was a quick learner. At the very least, she committed no major blunders. She was busy day and night, first familiarizing herself with all company operations and second dealing with existing crises.
However, she did not take over the project team for the CPP technology, as that was Yu Kunian’s personal team.
After letting go of Zhaoming Biotech, Yu Kunian made no further moves. Yu Dai forbade anyone outside the Yu family from visiting her, including Jiang Qiu. Surprisingly, Yu Kunian accepted this; she didn’t argue or protest, staying quietly in her room for several days in a row.
If Yu Sheng hadn’t checked on her every day to find her physically fine, she would have truly suspected that Yu Kunian was suffering from some hidden illness.
No one knew what Yu Kunian was thinking, much less what she intended to do.
While she appeared normal and calm on the surface, Yu Kunian was actually in a daze. After successfully offloading the burden of the company, she didn’t feel the relief she expected. The words spoken by both Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi felt like a heavy weight pressing down on her, leaving the Alpha in a state of constant confusion.
She finally had the opportunity to sleep peacefully, yet for the past two days, as she sat on the open-air balcony outside her bedroom, she felt no drowsiness. At night, she would stare silently at the dark sky and the crescent moon, her thoughts drifting far away.
Yu Kunian remembered that before this, Song Wenzhi had never been her only option. If she had wanted, she could have had many choices. Even if it wasn’t Li Ci, there would have been other Omegas willing to marry her. Even if it were just a performance, someone would have accepted.
She thought that perhaps she had indeed become too immersed in the role, deceiving even herself into this fraud that was full of false pretenses from the very beginning. She had never been “real.”
Song Wenzhi was right, and so was Xia Weichi. Her inexplicable obsession had blinded her. Why was she clinging to Song Wenzhi so desperately?
Since she was no longer the CEO of Zhaoming Biotech and Yu Dai would no longer force her into a marriage with the Li family, why should she waste more time clinging to a mistaken marriage? Sitting alone on the balcony, Yu Kunian repeatedly forced herself to be sober, telling herself that it was all an act from the start—a move of desperation. Now, there was no need to take it seriously.
The Alpha could no longer distinguish her true feelings. The only way to figure it out was to end this play and detach herself; only then could she determine what was wrong with her.
Although Yu Dai had confiscated her regular phone, she hadn’t known about the new phone Yu Kunian bought after that accidental missed appointment with Song Wenzhi. Inside, Song Wenzhi remained the only contact. Yu Kunian did not call; it was late at night and Song Wenzhi might be resting, so she sent a text message instead.
The previous divorce agreement had been thrown into the trash, so she asked Song Wenzhi to send another copy. She would sign it on the spot.
Unexpectedly, Song Wenzhi replied very quickly. The Omega didn’t say much, simply asking for an address and stating that Xia Weichi would deliver it on her behalf the next day.
Yu Kunian stared at the phone, the light from the screen reflecting on her cheeks. Just a few days ago, the chat log was filled with their intimate conversations; now, it contained only the cold, business-like tone of strangers. The Alpha’s fingertips trembled. Seeing the message, she realized that the Omega was unwilling to see her even one last time.
Just as Xia Weichi said, she had brought pain to Song Wenzhi. It was only natural for the Omega to want to stay away from her.
The screen went dark. Yu Kunian lowered her eyes and tightened her lips. When she unlocked the phone again, she replied with a single word: “Okay.” She couldn’t even bring herself to ask for one last meeting. She had to swallow all her words. Yu Kunian felt she was too strange—how could she have fallen so deep into the act?
Yu Kunian still couldn’t get a good night’s sleep. Her state of mind had reached a point of utter chaos. Despite maintaining a normal diet, her mental state grew worse, and the dark circles under her eyes became more prominent.
As Yu Sheng grew busier with work, her visits became less frequent. Yu Kunian didn’t want Xia Weichi to know she was under house arrest, so she called Jiang Qiu, hoping she could find an opportunity to sneak her out to sign the divorce papers.
To her surprise, the person who came to help wasn’t Jiang Qiu, but Li Ci.
Yu Dai held the daughter of the Li family in high regard, so when she heard Li Ci wanted to visit Yu Kunian, she agreed without hesitation. Li Ci swaggered into the room, but jumped in fright when she saw Yu Kunian’s appearance. “President Yu, why do you look so haggard? Are you being abused?”
Seeing her, Yu Kunian frowned and instinctively backed away to create distance. “Why is it you?”
Li Ci sat down unceremoniously and said smugly, “Miss Jiang is also being watched by Auntie Yu. I happened to run into her and heard you needed help, so I came—after all, I still owe you a favor. Besides, Auntie Yu won’t stop me, so I’m the most suitable person to help you.”
Even though Yu Kunian was no longer the CEO of Zhaoming Biotech, it would still be beneficial if she could maintain a relationship with Li Ci.
Yu Kunian pinched the bridge of her nose. She truly hadn’t expected Li Ci to come; she had intended to cut ties with the Li family completely. “President Li actually agreed to let you come?” After what she said last time, she thought Madam Li would have severed all contact with the Yu family.
“I don’t need her permission to go out,” Li Ci blurted out. After saying it, she realized something, glanced at Yu Kunian, coughed twice, and changed the subject. “Are you really getting a divorce?”
Yu Kunian looked at her, unable to gauge her intentions, and replied with a frown, “Even if I divorce, I won’t marry you.”
“I never said I wanted to marry you… Last time was because I saw Zhaoming Biotech was truly isolated and helpless, so I made that suggestion. Now that the situation has changed, of course I won’t marry you. Though I must say, your younger sister is quite impressive. Zhaoming Biotech is running much better. Even if they are still a bit short on funds, she has been quite a surprise.” Li Ci started talking and couldn’t seem to stop, as if she had forgotten her purpose for being there and just wanted to chat.
Although Yu Kunian didn’t respond, Li Ci talked on, unaffected.
Finally, Yu Kunian checked the time and said impatiently, “Miss Li, didn’t you say you were here to help me?”
Li Ci seemed to snap out of it. She stood up, clapped her hands, and smiled. “Oh right, sorry, I got carried away talking.”
With that, Li Ci walked toward the balcony. She gauged the height and made some estimates before turning back to Yu Kunian. “Have you ever climbed a wall? I checked when I came in; there’s no one below. You can go down from here, take the back gate, and get out.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian sighed. “This is the method you came up with?”
She had thought Li Ci would take her out through the front door, not have her climb down from the balcony.
Li Ci put her hands on her hips and rolled her eyes. “Even though Auntie Yu doesn’t stop me, I’m not that powerful. This is the most convenient way. Given my abilities, how could I lure away the guards and not make Auntie Yu suspicious? My plan is: you go out, I stay here. If Auntie Yu comes by, I’ll cover for you. Of course, you have to stay in touch with me at all times.”
Yu Kunian compromised. She said nothing more as she watched Li Ci pull out some pre-prepared items, then walked to the balcony as Li Ci explained how to descend.
Yu Kunian had never left a building this way in her life. She tried to move as quietly as possible to avoid detection. Although the act felt pathetic, she eventually landed safely. The Alpha hurried away from the back gate and caught a taxi to the address she had sent to Song Wenzhi.
Xia Weichi arrived early at the cafe and waited. The divorce agreement was already on the table. Before long, Yu Kunian arrived and sat opposite her.
“President Yu, it seems your life hasn’t been very comfortable since you resigned as CEO of Zhaoming Biotech.” Xia Weichi noticed the exhaustion on Yu Kunian’s face at a glance. She spoke indifferently, then added slowly, “Seeing you like this, I can rest easy.” Since Song Wenzhi was in such pain, why should Yu Kunian feel at ease? She deserved to be miserable.
Yu Kunian looked up. She frowned because Xia Weichi smelled of coconut candy—the scent of the Omega’s pheromones that she knew so well. Now, it was lingering on another Alpha. But no matter how strong her possessiveness was, she had no right to question Xia Weichi. She could only curl her fingers, suppressing all emotions as she watched Xia Weichi hand over the divorce agreement.
A pen was placed by Yu Kunian’s hand. Seeing her lack of movement, Xia Weichi said coldly, “President Yu, don’t tell me you’re planning to regret this?”
“Director Xia,” Yu Kunian kept her eyes down. She was no longer aggressive like before. She pursed her lips, picked up the pen, and her amber eyes filled with a dimness that was hard to hide. She asked in a very soft voice, “Is Zhizhi… doing well?”
Hearing this, Xia Weichi remained silent for a long time. She looked away, toward a car parked outside the cafe, out of Yu Kunian’s line of sight.
Through the closed car window, Xia Weichi seemed to see the expression of a certain Omega. Her breath hitched, then she slowly withdrew her gaze and said, “She is not well.”
Yu Kunian was opening the divorce agreement. When she heard Xia Weichi’s words, her fingertips froze. Then she heard Xia Weichi add: “Yu Kunian, because of you, Xiao Zhi is not doing well at all.”
It was her fault.
Yu Kunian had to admit that she had hurt Song Wenzhi.
Song Wenzhi’s signature on the divorce agreement entered Yu Kunian’s vision. The Alpha said nothing more and signed her own name. Song Wenzhi wanted nothing; she only wanted a divorce. And now, the Omega’s wish was finally fulfilled.
The Omega’s pheromones on Xia Weichi made Yu Kunian increasingly irritable. As an Alpha, she hated that her Omega’s scent was on someone else—it indicated an excessive closeness. Yu Kunian finally looked up and met Xia Weichi’s eyes. The other woman’s gaze was flat and filled with a hint of loathing; she would never show Yu Kunian a kind face.
Yu Kunian didn’t know if Xia Weichi was doing this on purpose. She only knew that with her rut approaching, she craved the Omega’s pheromones intensely. Yet, the coconut candy scent that was so close at hand no longer belonged to her.
From today on, she would never belong to her again.
Xia Weichi took the divorce agreement, left a copy for Yu Kunian, and stood up. She left Yu Kunian with one final sentence: “President Yu, I hope you never provoke Xiao Zhi again. She is not your pastime, nor is she someone you should approach at will.”
Xia Weichi couldn’t tolerate Yu Kunian’s actions, but Song Wenzhi wouldn’t allow her to strike at Yu Kunian. So, she could only issue a warning. From now on, if Yu Kunian ever harassed or tried to hurt Song Wenzhi again, she would make Yu Kunian pay a heavy price at all costs.
Before leaving, Xia Weichi casually tossed a wedding ring onto the table.
The custom-made wedding ring spun on the table until it stopped with a crisp sound, landing right by Yu Kunian’s hand. The Alpha stared at it. The coffee she had just picked up spilled onto her coat. Yu Kunian didn’t pick up the ring immediately. Her breathing became chaotic in an instant, her pupils shrank, and she stared at it for a long time. The ring on her own finger suddenly became blindingly eyesore at that moment.
