The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 60
She could not get a divorce, but she also did not want to.
On the coffee table in the living room lay the divorce papers. Song Wenzhi had already signed her name. Yu Kunian’s breathing became rapid; she watched the closed front door and quickly pushed it open to follow.
The Alpha strode toward the elevator. Song Wenzhi had already entered and pressed the button for her floor. Just as the elevator doors were about to close, they slid open again because Yu Kunian pressed the button from the outside.
Song Wenzhi did not look at her. She deliberately avoided eye contact, hearing the Alpha say to her, “Zhizhi, we can’t get a divorce. At least, not right now.”
The Omega remained silent for a long time. She didn’t know what this “right now” meant, but she didn’t want to drag things out for too long.
“Wait until the company matters are resolved before you consider the divorce, okay?” Yu Kunian added.
Only then did Song Wenzhi raise her eyes to look at her, her brows knitting slightly. “Yu Kunian, are you worried that our divorce will have an impact on the company?”
Even now, Yu Kunian was still prioritizing Zhaoming Biotech. Song Wenzhi finally understood why she had only recently begun to learn a bit more about the Alpha: it was because, prior to this, she had never affected Yu Kunian’s interests. Thus, she never had the chance to see the other sides of Yu Kunian.
In essence, Yu Kunian cared about interests far more than she cared about her. But even if they divorced, what could it possibly affect regarding Zhaoming Biotech?
“No.” Yu Kunian shook her head, hesitating. “Zhizhi, I am doing this for you…”
Everything she did, she did with Song Wenzhi in mind.
“Yu Kunian, you are doing it for yourself.”
“No… Zhizhi, why can’t you try to understand me?”
“How am I supposed to know you or understand you?”
Song Wenzhi’s questioning was soft. She also wanted to know how she could possibly understand the motives behind everything Yu Kunian did. In her eyes, marriage was no small matter; it was a promise to live a lifetime of love without reservation. She could not tolerate deception and concealment, and she certainly could not accept that Yu Kunian viewed marriage merely as a matter of interest.
A cold and heartless maximization of profit.
It was as if, once they were no longer of use to each other, this marriage should come to an end, only to start the next cycle of extracting benefits.
This was not a marriage, and there was no love.
She could not feel Yu Kunian’s love, and she suddenly realized that Yu Kunian had never said the word “love” to her—not even “like.” All their time together had been a fantasy of her own making; she had taken it for granted that Yu Kunian felt the same way she did, loving deeply.
Song Wenzhi thought that she would never be able to understand Yu Kunian’s definition of marriage.
“Even if you don’t understand—fine, look at it another way. We clearly don’t have any problems, Zhizhi. Why must you fixate on this one point?” Yu Kunian became increasingly frustrated. She didn’t understand why Song Wenzhi was being so stubborn. “Before this, weren’t we living very well? Even without ‘liking,’ we lived perfectly fine. Why must you obsess over such an unimportant thing now?”
“Unimportant?” Song Wenzhi murmured the word with a raspy voice. Her heart felt as if it had been pierced again, and tears slid down her cheeks once more, silently soaking into her coat.
Why was it unimportant?
In the past, she had thought all of Yu Kunian’s actions were born out of love, which was why they were harmonious. But now, she realized it had all been an act.
How was she supposed to accept that all the intimacy of the past was just a performance?
The mere thought that Yu Kunian’s sincere gaze while kissing her was actually a hollow routine made her feel terrified.
This Alpha had deceived her for so long; she could treat others in the exact same way.
The Omega raised her hand to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes. She lowered her head and said in a muffled voice, “Yu Kunian, to me, it is very important. It is the most important thing.”
“But we were still living very well.” The Alpha recalled the days since their marriage. “Have we ever had a bad time? Zhizhi, if you keep holding onto this and exaggerating it, that is what will truly be bad.”
“Am I the one being unreasonable and refusing to let go? Yu Kunian, is that what you think?”
Yu Kunian choked up. She paused for a moment before saying, “Zhizhi, that’s not what I meant.”
But Song Wenzhi no longer cared what she meant. She had already completely realized that her principles and Yu Kunian’s were entirely incompatible. This marriage was no longer what she had originally imagined it to be.
“Yu Kunian, contact me once you have signed the divorce papers.” Song Wenzhi said nothing more. She merely withdrew her gaze in disappointment and signaled for Yu Kunian to let go of the elevator button.
The Alpha’s gaze darkened slightly. Her attempts at persuasion had only strengthened the Omega’s resolve to divorce. She wanted to salvage the situation but didn’t know what else to say. Clearly, before today, they had been getting along so well, but suddenly, everything seemed to have changed.
All because of—that “liking” that she still did not understand even now.
Yu Kunian also felt a sense of powerlessness. Frustration welled up in her heart. She didn’t dare look at the Omega’s face again, lowering her eyes as she whispered, “Zhizhi, it’s so late. Where are you going to stay? If you must leave, at least wait until tomorrow morning, okay?”
“It has nothing to do with you anymore, Yu Kunian,” Song Wenzhi said, feigning indifference while actually forcing herself to hold back her nearly collapsing, helpless emotions.
In her astonishment, the Alpha let go of the door. She watched as the elevator doors quickly shut, and the Omega’s figure gradually disappeared from her sight, though the resonance of those words remained.
For the first time, Yu Kunian felt that Song Wenzhi was such a decisive person.
She could abandon everything at any moment, including her.
Yu Kunian stood before the elevator for an unknown amount of time before returning home. She stood in the living room, on the rug that had been laid down not long ago, her emotions incredibly complex.
The divorce papers on the table were an eyesore.
Yu Kunian leaned over to pick them up. Seeing Song Wenzhi’s signature inside, she realized once again, with startling clarity, that she had been abandoned.
As the CEO of Zhaoming Biotech, everyone Yu Kunian encountered catered to her every mood. But she had made an exception for Song Wenzhi, maintaining the utmost patience for her and considering her in every way.
Asking herself honestly, she felt she had done everything humanly possible, even making Song Wenzhi the sole exception in her life. Yu Kunian believed she had done all she could; she had considered everything for Song Wenzhi, solved all the Omega’s troubles, and done her best to protect her from harm.
But in the end, it was Song Wenzhi who came to hurt her.
For an absurd reason.
Yu Kunian casually tossed the agreement onto the floor. She sat on the sofa, thinking that perhaps she didn’t need Song Wenzhi; she had no shortage of candidates for marriage.
But that day, she had chosen Song Wenzhi.
Yu Kunian covered her face with both hands and closed her eyes, contemplating exactly where things had gone wrong. But no matter how much she thought, she still didn’t understand. Was the “liking” Song Wenzhi spoke of really that important?
Important enough for Song Wenzhi to choose to divorce her immediately.
But she didn’t intend to agree to the divorce.
Yu Kunian knitted her brows. She released her hands and stared at the divorce papers for a long time, finding it ridiculous.
Several bottles of wine were swept off the table by Yu Kunian’s hand. With several “thuds,” they smashed onto the floor, staining the divorce papers. The paper soaked it up quickly. The Alpha stared fixedly as the wine stains spread, drenching the white paper.
It also stained the rug.
The clean rug was ruined just like that. The color of the red wine left a prominent mark, but Yu Kunian remained unmoved. Her expression was indifferent, like a cold, detached CEO, gradually withdrawing her emotions.
Had she gotten too deep into the role? Probably.
Yu Kunian felt she had changed too much recently, to the point where she hardly recognized herself. She was supposed to be heartless; marriage was supposed to be optional to her, yet she still felt heartache.
She wasn’t supposed to be like this.
But her thoughts were a mess right now. She couldn’t think clearly about her own state of mind. With the crisis at Zhaoming Biotech on one side and the end of her marriage on the other, the Alpha could not remain calm.
Yu Kunian lay back on the sofa. The Omega’s lingering scent was here—a faint smell of coconut candy that relieved her frustration by half. The Alpha didn’t know what love was, but she depended on Song Wenzhi, or perhaps, she was dependent on the Omega’s pheromones.
Due to their high compatibility, she would instinctively move closer.
Was this instinct “liking”?
Yu Kunian didn’t know.
The living room was filled with the scent of wine. Yu Kunian frowned, drifting into a muddled sleep amidst the odor without even realizing it.
Yu Kunian had thought that Song Wenzhi was merely an Omega used for marriage, an Omega who happened to be highly compatible with her. She was acting, performing to maintain the longevity of this marriage.
But in her dreams, she remembered Song Wenzhi smiling at her, and she was smiling back.
Was she really just acting?
Yu Kunian began to doubt herself. She had indeed crafted a perfect persona for Song Wenzhi. In reality, she cared about interests above all else; she looked for returns, and she was always weighing pros and cons… What Song Wenzhi had always faced was this nearly perfectly disguised version of herself.
She was self-serving, or rather, selfish.
Song Wenzhi had never seen this side of her until today.
At this moment, amidst her irritability, Yu Kunian sensed a faint trace of worry. She had always presented a mask to the Omega, and she realized belatedly that she had personally torn that mask off today.
She had gone that far just because she wanted Song Wenzhi to reconsider the divorce.
She could not get a divorce, but she also did not want to.
Yu Kunian woke up with a start in the middle of the night. The living room was dim. The Alpha slowly sat up. Her chaotic thoughts seemed to never stop; her mind repeatedly circled back to matters concerning Song Wenzhi. Yu Kunian wanted to seek an answer for her currently indescribable mood and the resistance stemming from the bottom of her heart. She wanted to know why she was so attached.
Until dawn, as the sunlight spilled in from the window, Yu Kunian never closed her eyes again. She sat in the same spot, staring blankly at the blemish on the rug stained by the wine, remaining silent the entire time.
Everything felt inexplicable to the Alpha. Things had spiraled out of her control and brought her more distress.
She couldn’t find the answer herself, even after thinking all night. After a moment, Yu Kunian stood up. She picked up the now-unusable divorce papers and threw them into the trash can.
Turning to put on her coat, Yu Kunian performed a quick wash-up. She didn’t even eat breakfast before deciding to find Song Wenzhi to talk once more.
