The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 55
You Are Doing Well Now
Yu Kunian’s earnest invitation was something Song Wenzhi could not refuse. Thus, the Omega walked onto the stage, and they sat together on a single piano bench, beginning to replay the piece from moments ago.
The very piano piece that had marked their reunion.
The gloom in Song Wenzhi’s heart swept away completely. Looking at the Alpha beside her, she felt this moment was so wonderful she wished time could stop right then. Even if their playing wasn’t perfect—even if they were both a bit out of practice—Song Wenzhi still loved the music today. She thought she would remember it forever.
When the piece ended, Yu Kunian leaned closer. Sensing the Omega’s improved mood, the Alpha covered Song Wenzhi’s hand with her own and whispered, “Zhizhi, I want you to be happy forever.”
She hoped that Song Wenzhi, free from any burdens, could be happy from now on.
Song Wenzhi nodded at her. “Yu Kunian, I will be.”
Yu Kunian’s eyes crinkled into a smile, and she pressed a light kiss against the Omega’s cheek. The overhead stage lights illuminated their silhouettes. The Alpha rested her forehead against Song Wenzhi’s shoulder, her voice sounding muffled as she spoke:
“Zhizhi, do you know why I learned the piano?”
Song Wenzhi asked, “Why?”
“My mother said that learning piano made it easy to perform on stage,” Yu Kunian said. “That way, I’d have a ‘special skill.’ A performance record could add points during interviews for the Committee. I was taken to the Committee from a young age to be exposed to it; she wanted me to be immersed in that environment so I’d get used to the atmosphere early.”
“Did you originally want to work for the Committee?” Song Wenzhi asked.
“No,” Yu Kunian gave a bitter laugh. “I never thought about going to the Committee, but since I was a child, everything was already explicitly arranged. My hobbies had to follow their requirements; I wasn’t allowed to have other thoughts. When I was little, I felt like an artwork that could be carved and manipulated at will.”
She had to follow the will of Yu Dai and Yang Jin. She had no so-called right to choose; she could only accept, without reason, every arrangement.
Before Song Wenzhi could speak, Yu Kunian continued: “Before my differentiation, I did exactly as they wished, obedient in every way. But unfortunately, even after being immersed in it for so many years, I still didn’t like the Committee. So, the piano I practiced never served its intended purpose.” After saying this, Yu Kunian looked up, her fingertips brushing through the Omega’s hair. She paused before adding:
“However, I feel now that it wasn’t a waste to learn it.”
The piano had led her to meet Song Wenzhi. This made the Alpha feel that those childhood lessons she once loathed weren’t so bad after all.
Hearing this, Song Wenzhi’s gaze softened. “You are doing well now. If you don’t want to touch the piano again, I’ll play for you in the future.”
Yu Kunian chuckled. “We’ll play together.”
She would accept playing with Song Wenzhi; only when Song Wenzhi was there did she not feel resentment. The Omega liked the piano, so she would change for her, forgetting the unpleasantness brought by Yu Dai and Yang Jin.
Yu Kunian embraced Song Wenzhi intimately, but the moment didn’t last long before they were interrupted by the returning orchestra. A few “sorries” caused the two to break apart and turn their heads, meeting the eyes of the orchestra members.
A moment later, the others left, leaving only Ms. Zheng Wan behind.
Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi stood up. They watched Ms. Zheng Wan slowly walk onto the stage, her fingers clutched together in slight nervousness. A smile hung on her face; her gaze lingered on Song Wenzhi for a second before shifting to Yu Kunian.
This Alpha had exceeded Zheng Wan’s expectations. Last time, she had only seen her from a distance and couldn’t make much of her. Meeting formally today, Zheng Wan was surprised that Yu Kunian didn’t seem overbearing at all—unlike that woman surnamed Yang who had called her two days ago, whose voice carried an irrepressible sense of superiority. Though it wasn’t said explicitly, Zheng Wan knew the other party looked down on her family.
Song Wenzhi spoke first: “Mom, this is Yu Kunian, the Alpha I married.”
Zheng Wan snapped out of it and nodded. “Miss Yu, hello. I know of you, President Yu of Zhaoming Biotech. Thank you for taking such good care of Wenzhi.”
She had seen it—the intimacy between Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi just now wasn’t the “climbing the social ladder” she had feared. Instead, it was Yu Kunian who bowed her head; this Alpha seemed to be at Song Wenzhi’s beck and call.
Yu Kunian said, “It is what I should do.”
Zheng Wan was somewhat afraid to look at Song Wenzhi. She didn’t know what to say; guilt always permeated her heart. She was indeed a despicable Beta; she later wanted to make amends but could never truly fix things. But seeing Yu Kunian today, she felt at ease. Even if Song Wenzhi still hated her, she was at least happy that the Omega had brought this Alpha to see her.
It was enough that Song Wenzhi was happy.
Zheng Wan never expected Song Wenzhi to forgive her. If it weren’t for her selfishness, and if that Alpha hadn’t been so insane, Song Wenzhi wouldn’t have ended up in that situation.
Song Wenzhi didn’t intend to chat long; after all, she only wanted Yu Kunian to see Zheng Wan. However, before leaving, she said: “The debt has been paid back. You don’t need to worry about it anymore.”
After saying this, Song Wenzhi took Yu Kunian’s hand to leave, but Zheng Wan subconsciously called out to them.
The Omega stopped. She didn’t turn around, asking coldly, “Is there anything else?”
Zheng Wan nervously rubbed her fingers again, her tone carrying a trace of subtle supplication: “Wenzhi, your wedding gift… Mom hasn’t given it to you yet… How about I buy back that old piano, okay?”
It was a piano from many years ago; who knew where it had been sold? Moreover, that old-style piano was likely broken by now. Zheng Wan buying it back would just be buying trouble.
So Song Wenzhi refused without hesitation: “No need.” She didn’t need that old piano, nor did she need a wedding gift. A flash of complex emotion crossed her downcast eyes. She deliberately hid the slight tremor in her voice and, remembering something, added: “Also, return the reward you received that doesn’t belong to you.”
Zheng Wan had accepted the reward Yang Jin offered, but Song Wenzhi did not.
After saying these words, Song Wenzhi didn’t wait for Zheng Wan’s response. She somewhat hurriedly pulled Yu Kunian out of the theater. The air outside was very cold; the wind blowing past made the Omega feel incredibly sober. Song Wenzhi pursed her lips, calming her chaotic emotions, not wanting Yu Kunian to see any cracks.
Yu Kunian was tactful enough not to ask. She led Song Wenzhi to a nearby restaurant to settle their dinner.
As Song Wenzhi looked at the menu, she heard Yu Kunian ask: “Zhizhi, do you want to stay here for a night before we go?”
Song Wenzhi’s finger paused. Her gaze drifted from the menu. After a moment of thought, she said, “No.”
“Then after we eat, we’ll take a car to the high-speed rail station. I’ll buy tickets for a later train.” Yu Kunian expected this; otherwise, she wouldn’t have asked the question.
Song Wenzhi clearly didn’t want to stay here any longer.
Song Wenzhi originally thought Yu Kunian would have at least a few days to spare during the end of their honeymoon, but she didn’t expect Yu Kunian to become even busier after the trip to Yin City. Even when Song Wenzhi’s vacation ended and she went back to work at Lihua University, Yu Kunian still hadn’t slowed down.
Song Wenzhi didn’t know if the breach of contract issue had been resolved; she had forgotten to ask. She simply thought Zhaoming Biotech was just busy—it was possible that business had suddenly increased—but she never imagined that Zhaoming Biotech was in trouble.
Yu Kunian hadn’t told her the full truth.
The so-called “defaulting party” was actually the manufacturer of the new product, who had unexpectedly terminated their cooperation with Zhaoming Biotech. As the sole provider of materials for the new product, if the cooperation was interrupted and the supply stopped, all production regarding the new product at Zhaoming Biotech would be forced to halt.
This problem could be large or small, depending on the specific losses and whether the gap caused by the default could be filled in time. They also needed to quickly come up with a new plan to substitute the current production.
But Zhaoming Biotech’s product this time was too unique. Because of the new technology, ordinary manufacturers couldn’t produce it smoothly, leaving no substitute products available. Furthermore, Yu Kunian’s new product had already received many orders, and all those orders were already halfway through production. The current state was a total deadlock.
The breach of contract damages from the manufacturer wouldn’t cover the losses from failing to deliver all the orders. Zhaoming Biotech was about to face massive compensation fees for all the new product orders. However, at the beginning—when production started after the investment fair—Yu Kunian had invested almost all the cash flow into production.
This meant Zhaoming Biotech now had no available funds for Yu Kunian to use for compensation. Even with the manufacturer’s damages, it would be far from enough. The company’s capital turnover had ground to a halt.
Moreover, the company’s other projects hadn’t fully launched yet. Several government projects they were bidding on were snatched away by other companies because of this crisis. It could be said that Zhaoming Biotech had fallen into an unprecedentedly severe crisis.
Yu Kunian had been overwhelmed by this lately. The new product couldn’t be delivered as expected, and she had negotiated with the manufacturer multiple times to no avail. Later, the Alpha found out that a foreign company, with a product direction similar to hers, had gone to the watch manufacturer to negotiate—buying out the manufacturer’s material supply for the next six months at a price far higher than the market rate.
In six months, Zhaoming Biotech would have long since crumbled into dust.
Yu Kunian didn’t know exactly which company it was. This corporate competition had created a life-or-death situation for Zhaoming Biotech.
Perhaps the Alpha thought no one could beat this new technology, but she hadn’t anticipated that someone would spend such a high price to intercept the materials. Her “all-in” gamble had made the current situation incredibly tense. If Yu Kunian couldn’t quickly turn around the company’s cash flow, Zhaoming Biotech would truly be beyond saving.
And all of this was told to Song Wenzhi personally by Yu Dai, who had specifically come to the university.
The reason for informing Song Wenzhi was that financing was insufficient. Zhaoming Biotech now needed a large investor who could immediately fill the company’s required cash flow. But help wasn’t free; it came with conditions.
“The Li Group is willing to help, but they have their eyes on Kunian. They want the heiress of the Li Group to form a collaboration with Kunian through marriage.”
Those were Yu Dai’s original words.
Yu Dai’s meaning was very clear: she wanted Song Wenzhi to divorce Yu Kunian so that Zhaoming Biotech could survive this crisis.
If it weren’t for this crisis, perhaps Yu Dai and Yang Jin would have continued to turn a blind eye to their marriage. but now that the company’s situation was dire, they had to step in.
“If Miss Song doesn’t believe it, you can go to Zhaoming Biotech and ask the employees if the situation I described is true.” Yu Dai didn’t ask for an answer immediately, but she seemed to have the winning hand. “If Miss Song truly loves Kunian, then she should consider things for her—and for her company.”
Song Wenzhi thought Yu Dai’s logic was absurd. She didn’t speak, but after Yu Dai left, she was unsettled for a long time. When her classes ended today, it was already very late by the time she left the teaching building. Yu Kunian was still working overtime, so the Omega decided to go to Zhaoming Biotech.
On the way there, Song Wenzhi was very anxious.
When she arrived at the company, Yu Kunian wasn’t there. Song Wenzhi went directly to the assistant to ask.
The answer she received matched what Yu Dai had said. Zhaoming Biotech was indeed on the brink of collapse. Everyone had worried faces, and some employees had already resigned, fearing the company would truly go under.
Song Wenzhi’s heart was a mess of emotions. She stood in Yu Kunian’s office; the documents on the desk were cluttered. The Alpha’s negative emotions were probably hard to suppress. Every aspect showed the Omega that the disaster here was devastating.
Yet Yu Kunian had told her nothing.
The company had reached this point, and Yu Kunian hadn’t even mentioned it. Even when she asked, Yu Kunian just said it could be solved…
Song Wenzhi felt her hands shaking uncontrollably. She couldn’t estimate exactly how much cash flow Zhaoming Biotech needed right now, but it was certainly many times more than her own debts. The Omega didn’t dare think about what Yu Kunian would do if Zhaoming Biotech really fell.
The Omega felt panicked. She wanted to help Yu Kunian, but she didn’t understand corporate matters. Recalling what Yu Dai said meant that Zhaoming Biotech was constantly looking for investors to fill the cash flow. The funds in Song Wenzhi’s hands were just a drop in the bucket.
Silence spread through the office, and the atmosphere grew heavy.
The Omega pondered for a long time. Finally, she took out her phone and dialed Xia Weichi’s number.
The only person she could think of who might be able to help.
The call took a long time to connect. Before the other side could speak, Song Wenzhi said first: “Weichi, can you help Yu Kunian?”
The words Xia Weichi was about to say seemed to catch in her throat. She went silent for a while after hearing “Yu Kunian’s” name before asking, “What happened?”
Song Wenzhi briefly told Xia Weichi about the situation. She didn’t say too much, but it was enough for Xia Weichi to realize the predicament of Yu Kunian’s company. The Omega rarely asked Xia Weichi for help; she was used to solving things herself or toughening it out. But Yu Kunian’s situation was truly something she felt helpless about.
Perhaps with Xia Weichi’s status, there would be a way.
Song Wenzhi placed all her hope on Xia Weichi, expecting to hear a positive response. But unexpectedly, the Alpha on the other end gave a light sigh before saying:
“Sorry, Xiao Zhi. I am powerless to help.”
Song Wenzhi was stunned. She almost thought she had heard wrong, but it was the truth—Xia Weichi’s words reached her ears clearly. The Omega felt as if her blood had frozen. She realized she had no more options.
There was a continuous silence on the line. Song Wenzhi couldn’t make a sound as a sense of powerlessness slowly engulfed her. She had heard enough bad news for one day.
Xia Weichi hesitated for a moment before explaining to her: “Although I don’t know the specific number of orders Zhaoming Biotech has, for it to reach this point, it must be a lot. So even if I stepped in, I wouldn’t be able to bear the compensation amount.”
“I see.” Song Wenzhi understood. Her voice grew heavier. Hearing this, Xia Weichi still comforted her: “I don’t think Yu Kunian’s parents will let Zhaoming Biotech fail. Xiao Zhi, you don’t need to worry too much.”
Indeed, Yu Dai already had a solution: a marriage alliance with the Li Group.
But what kind of “solution” was that?
“Thanks, I won’t bother you then.” Song Wenzhi didn’t tell Xia Weichi about that. She sat in the chair, her breathing a bit ragged, her voice trembling.
“Xiao Zhi.” Xia Weichi suddenly called out to her. “Zhaoming Biotech did make a name for itself because of Yu Kunian, but Yu Kunian acts recklessly. She has always been one to ignore consequences and never leave herself a way out. Zhaoming Biotech was bound to go through this eventually… Yu Kunian must pay the price for her rashness. You need to be prepared in advance.”
“Prepared for what?” Things couldn’t get worse than they were now.
Xia Weichi said: “Yu Kunian might be removed by Zhaoming Biotech’s board of directors for this reason, losing everything and bearing all the responsibility. Xiao Zhi, consider your future situation.”
Song Wenzhi didn’t speak for a long time. Even after the call ended, the office remained in a deathly silence.
Yu Kunian’s return broke that silence. The Alpha pushed open the door and saw the Omega sitting at the office desk, lost in thought.
“Zhizhi?” Yu Kunian walked closer. She spoke softly and reached out to hold the Omega’s fingertips, finding her hand exceptionally cold.
Yu Kunian wrapped Song Wenzhi’s hand in her palm. She lowered her head, noticing something was wrong with the Omega, and asked again: “Zhizhi, what’s wrong?”
Song Wenzhi lowered her eyes. Her voice was so small it was almost a blur, but Yu Kunian still heard it clearly. The Omega asked back with a sense of helplessness: “Yu Kunian, why didn’t you tell me?”
Yu Kunian realized Song Wenzhi knew everything. Her expression changed. Then Song Wenzhi looked up at her; her eyes were dimmer than usual, her expression sorrowful. She continued: “Your troubles—why didn’t you ever tell me?”
Yu Kunian pulled Song Wenzhi into an embrace. She stroked the back of Song Wenzhi’s neck and sighed before saying, “Zhizhi, there was no need for you to know.” Knowing would only add to her worries.
Song Wenzhi’s words came in fragments as complex emotions surged. She gripped Yu Kunian’s hand back. “We agreed to bear things together.” After saying this, she paused and added: “Yu Kunian, I can’t help you. What should I do?”
She couldn’t help Yu Kunian, and she had never felt so powerless. The Omega said: “Why can’t I help you…”
