The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 54
She loves this Alpha.
It had been raining in Lihua City for several days. Heavy downpours often fell at night, causing the city’s temperature to plummet. The weather in Yin City was much the same; the standing water on the ground rippled under a continuous fine drizzle, and as pedestrians passed by, they were met with a face full of damp, humid air.
Yu Kunian had specifically cleared her schedule to return to Yin City with Song Wenzhi to thoroughly resolve the debt issues.
After everything concluded, they both tacitly agreed not to take a car back. Instead, they walked out together, both the Alpha and the Omega feeling as though a heavy burden had been lifted. Raindrops hit the back of Yu Kunian’s hand, bringing a slight chill as the cold wind brushed past. The Alpha paused for a moment and looked up. It was only around 6:30 in the evening, but the sky had already turned gloomy under the dense clouds.
Yu Kunian tightened her grip on the umbrella in her hand. She turned to ask Song Wenzhi beside her, “Are you cold?”
The temperature in Yin City was clearly lower than in Lihua City. Passersby were already wearing thicker coats, but they hadn’t anticipated this, so the clothes they wore today were obviously a bit thin.
The Omega seemed not to have noticed. Upon hearing Yu Kunian’s words, she instinctively shook her head. “I’m not cold.”
After saying this, Song Wenzhi curled her fingertips, suddenly feeling the chill in her fingers. She had been distracted just now and hadn’t realized that the weather had already turned the tip of her nose red from the cold.
When they first came out, they had both been silent. It wasn’t until they stopped now that Yu Kunian’s voice broke the previous stillness. The Alpha knew that Song Wenzhi needed time to adapt—to believe that this matter had truly ended. With a problem that had plagued her for years finally resolved, it was normal for the Omega to remain in a state of trance.
Therefore, Yu Kunian did not disturb her. She simply held the umbrella steady to ensure Song Wenzhi wouldn’t get wet, while keeping a constant watch on her reactions out of the corner of her eye.
The sound of endless traffic echoed in their ears. There were quite a few pedestrians at this hour, and the surrounding hustle and bustle made them seem strange—a strange silence and a strange pause. Under the transparent umbrella hastily bought from a convenience store, the two of them remained standing there. Even as people hurried past them, they stayed in place.
The Omega felt an indescribable weight in her heart, much like the drizzling rain at this moment, slowly seeping into her soul. She thought she would laugh—that she would laugh without any further burden—but at this moment, she found herself unable to lift the corners of her mouth.
Song Wenzhi didn’t know the reason.
In the next moment, a sudden honk of a car horn snapped Song Wenzhi out of her daze. The Omega instinctively looked up, her pupils trembling slightly. Once she focused, she met the Alpha’s gaze directly in front of her.
Concern, worry, and heartache.
That was how Yu Kunian was looking at her.
Song Wenzhi felt tightly enveloped by Yu Kunian’s gaze, to the point where she could no longer feel the cold. she stretched out her somewhat stiff hand and then took half a step closer to Yu Kunian, hugging the Alpha around the waist as she pressed herself into her embrace.
Yu Kunian’s hug was always something one craved.
The sound of Yu Kunian’s steady heartbeat entered her ears. Song Wenzhi hugged her even tighter and closed her eyes; at this moment, she only wanted to quietly feel Yu Kunian’s presence.
Yu Kunian’s free hand rested on Song Wenzhi’s back. She lowered her head and kissed the Omega on the forehead.
The Alpha said, “Wenzhi, all the bad things from the past are completely over. From now on, let’s embrace a new life together.”
New life—for Song Wenzhi, this was an accurate term.
The Omega had been trapped in the past for too long; she had almost forgotten what “new” meant.
Yu Kunian had brought her change and allowed her to change. Song Wenzhi thought that she was becoming unable to leave Yu Kunian.
“Yu Kunian,” Song Wenzhi spoke softly, “thank you.”
Yu Kunian said with a smile, “Wenzhi, you never need to be polite with me.”
Song Wenzhi looked at Yu Kunian. The Alpha’s eyes and brows were filled with a smile. Yu Kunian had done so much that the Omega didn’t know how to repay her, and she had no reason not to be moved.
Song Wenzhi felt lucky over and over again that she hadn’t missed out on Yu Kunian.
Song Wenzhi liked Yu Kunian; she loved this Alpha, and that had never changed.
Yu Kunian lowered her head and took her hand. After noticing how cold the Omega’s hand was, she furrowed her brows slightly and, without hesitation, pulled Song Wenzhi’s hand into her own pocket. Their fingers intertwined, close and inseparable.
Finally, they stopped standing around like fools. Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi walked forward together. Their shadows were faintly outlined on the damp ground. The Omega’s gaze finally softened, and a smile touched her lips as she kept her eyes fixed on Yu Kunian.
Walking somewhat aimlessly, her memories of Yin City had become a bit blurred. Yu Kunian looked at the somewhat familiar surroundings and unknowingly walked to a tree-lined path she used to pass through all the time.
The trees on both sides of the road were still as lush as ever. Walking onto this path, it felt as though the surroundings had quieted down significantly. Because of the recent heavy rain, countless fallen leaves were scattered across the road, and a few stray leaves floated silently yet profoundly on the puddles.
Back then, during school hours, this road was filled mostly with students.
Bicycles would ride past, the sound of the bells still crisp. Students would walk together in groups of two or three, talking, laughing, or sharing their troubles—those were the sounds of this tree-lined path.
She only just realized that in the blink of an eye, many years had passed.
“When I used to walk this path, leaves would always fall on my head.” Yu Kunian pointed to both sides. “They would either get caught in my hair or fall into my hands… There was a small ginkgo tree back then. Its leaves weren’t big, and they turned golden in the autumn. I kept one to use as a bookmark. However, the one that was best preserved seemed to have been lost later; I never found it again.”
Hearing this, Song Wenzhi lowered her eyes. She remembered that beautiful ginkgo leaf. That bookmark she had accidentally discovered in a book at the municipal library; after later finding out the previous borrower was Yu Kunian, she had taken it. At first, she wanted to return it, but it was later damaged, and there was no way to give it back.
The Omega was equally familiar with this tree-lined path. Back then, Song Wenzhi and Yu Kunian were not in the same class, so this road was the only place where Song Wenzhi could run into Yu Kunian. She had once watched the Alpha’s back here, seeing how Yu Kunian was always a solitary figure. She had thought of countless opening lines for a self-introduction, only to miss out in the end because of her hesitation.
Song Wenzhi’s gaze lingered on the trees for a moment before she said, “It has already been replaced—that ginkgo tree.”
The unique ginkgo tree was gone, and Yu Kunian had long since transferred schools and left. Back then, Song Wenzhi couldn’t find any trace of the Alpha, leaving only that storage room.
Song Wenzhi had regretted it; if she hadn’t been so hesitant, perhaps there wouldn’t have been such a legacy of regret.
Yu Kunian said, “What a pity.”
No wonder they hadn’t seen a single ginkgo leaf even after walking to the end of the road.
Song Wenzhi heard the regret in Yu Kunian’s voice, which was just like her own back then. Looking at the Alpha’s face now, Song Wenzhi pondered for a moment. Yu Kunian stopped walking and looked at her with a beaming smile, asking, “Where are we going now? Back?”
The Omega paused for a moment before suddenly speaking: “Let’s go to the theater.”
“Do you want to see a concert?”
“No, I want to take you to see my mother.”
She wasn’t considering whether to forgive Zheng Wan; she simply wanted to introduce Yu Kunian to her mother—in the name of her Alpha.
Yu Kunian was stunned for a moment, but she quickly snapped out of it. The Alpha nodded and said with a smile, “Okay.”
The theater was not far from the tree-lined path, and they continued to walk there. The drizzling rain felt like it was about to stop. After entering the theater, they found that the previous concert had just ended not long ago. The audience was slowly dispersing, and the hall was almost empty.
Song Wenzhi took Yu Kunian to the backstage area, but the orchestra members seemed to have gone elsewhere. They didn’t find Zheng Wan either. After asking a staff member, they learned that the orchestra would return in twenty minutes.
Today’s performances at the theater had all concluded, and there were no more scheduled concerts. The staff did not intend to allow them to wait there and wanted them to wait for the orchestra members at the entrance. However, Yu Kunian found the person in charge of the theater and ended up paying to rent out the empty theater for twenty minutes.
Song Wenzhi was somewhat bewildered when she heard this. “Why book the whole place?”
It was understandable that they couldn’t wait inside the theater; after all, there were restaurants and cafes nearby. They could have spent twenty minutes eating or having coffee to kill time, but there was no need to waste it here.
Yu Kunian gave a light chuckle and led her to sit in the first row of the audience. Then, the Alpha stood in front of Song Wenzhi and said, “Today is a good day for a celebration.”
Song Wenzhi widened her eyes slightly. “How do you want to celebrate?” This was a theater; there didn’t seem to be anything available to use for a celebration.
The Alpha simply said, “Making the most of what’s available.”
After saying that, Yu Kunian went onto the stage. She stopped in front of the piano that hadn’t been moved yet and smiled at Song Wenzhi. Immediately, the Alpha sat down and played a cheerful piece for Song Wenzhi to hear.
Yu Kunian rarely took the initiative to play the piano; the last time was in the practice room at Lihua University. She didn’t particularly like the piano, as she had been forced to learn it by Yang Jin when she was a child, so she would instinctively have feelings of resentment toward it. But today, she was very willing to play it for Song Wenzhi.
The Omega was the only audience member in the theater. The sound of the piano music was for Song Wenzhi’s private enjoyment. Yu Kunian knew that Song Wenzhi’s mood wasn’t particularly high, so this was also a way she thought of to make the Omega happy.
However, the Alpha clearly didn’t play perfectly. Just like last time, she played some wrong notes, which Song Wenzhi certainly noticed, but the Omega didn’t think it was bad at all.
Song Wenzhi watched Yu Kunian, her smile growing wider. Even if her mood hadn’t been bright just now, she was now feeling joyful because of Yu Kunian—because of the Alpha’s care for her.
Once the piece finished, Yu Kunian didn’t stop. After pausing for a moment, she played another song—the one the Alpha hadn’t finished playing back in the practice room at Lihua University.
Neither of them would ever forget that day.
Song Wenzhi liked the piano because she would gain happiness and a brief moment of peace from it, without being disturbed. What Yu Kunian played for her carried a sense of passion and an even more frantic joy—it was the celebration the Alpha had mentioned.
Halfway through the piece, Yu Kunian suddenly stopped. She stood up again and walked toward Song Wenzhi.
The Omega sat there and saw the Alpha reach out a hand to her: “Wenzhi, together?”
