The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 56
Song Wenzhi was the most important.
Song Wenzhi’s fingertips trembled slightly. They had clearly agreed to share everything together, no matter what happened. But facing the current situation, she found she couldn’t even bring herself to question Yu Kunian as to why; because in this matter, she truly could not help. It was understandable, and even unnecessary, for the Alpha not to tell her.
Such reasoning prevented Song Wenzhi’s emotions from settling for a long time.
Yu Kunian could easily solve her difficulties, yet she had no way to provide timely help to the Alpha. The Omega had always known the gap between herself and Yu Kunian, but when she realized it again today, so completely and utterly, the feeling was beyond words.
It was her hand, raised but unable to reach out; it was the heart that could only fret anxiously while watching Zhaoming Biotech teeter on the edge. All of this told her every moment that she must either watch Yu Kunian bear the severe consequences alone, or…
“Zhizhi, this is my own responsibility.” Yu Kunian knelt down. The Alpha looked up, her amber eyes still filled with gentleness. Even though she might have been privately consumed by anxiety, at this moment, she remained unhurried as she comforted her: “Don’t take it all upon yourself. Don’t blame yourself—that is how you help me.”
Song Wenzhi’s pupils trembled. She lowered her gaze to meet Yu Kunian’s eyes, which were dark and hidden with a faint trace of sadness. The Omega’s brow furrowed slightly as she responded, “Yu Kunian, don’t…” Don’t comfort me anymore.
Yu Kunian interrupted the Omega’s words by kissing her fingertips. The Alpha chuckled softly and said, “This kind of accident was caused by my own hands. Zhaoming Biotech was once very glorious, which blinded me and gave me the illusion that everything would go my way, that everything would be smooth sailing. However, I eventually had to understand that in certain situations, my strategies were wrong and I needed to stumble.”
So many companies were waiting for this day for Zhaoming Biotech; so many people were envious and whispered about Yu Kunian’s reckless yet successful career. Now, just as many people were secretly watching the joke. Yu Kunian had actually understood long ago that Zhaoming Biotech could no longer follow its former strategy and should start making more stable decisions, otherwise, the company would eventually enter such a state.
It was time for President Yu, who appeared almost arrogant in the eyes of others, to fall.
“So, I should bear this myself. Regardless of whether it can be solved, I must take responsibility. Zhizhi, things are bad, but I don’t want you to worry because of it, nor do I want you to blame yourself. At the very least, I have already accepted reality.”
Yu Kunian explained all her thoughts in detail. She was no longer as frustrated as she was at the beginning; instead, her tone had flattened considerably. The Alpha had recently gone to see many partners, all of whom avoided her like the plague, offering various excuses in their words. No one was willing to help Zhaoming Biotech.
Of course, at a time like this, as long as the partners were not kicking them while they were down, it was already good enough.
But too many people wanted to see Zhaoming Biotech collapse.
What Yu Kunian felt most recently was exhaustion—physical and mental fatigue. When the problems arrived, the Alpha realized that these years seemed much like the time when Zhaoming Biotech was first founded: she was still isolated and helpless, hitting walls everywhere.
“Yu Kunian,” seeing the dark circles under the Alpha’s eyes, Song Wenzhi bent down close with an aching heart. She remembered what Xia Weichi had said, “Will you be dismissed?”
Yu Kunian froze for a moment, seemingly not expecting Song Wenzhi to ask this. There had indeed been rumors from the board of directors recently; regarding this crisis, some of them did indeed intend to dismiss her.
The Alpha’s silence was the answer.
Song Wenzhi’s breath hitched. She gently raised her hand to touch Yu Kunian’s cheek, her thumb brushing against the corner of the Alpha’s eye. After a long silence, she continued to ask, “Is the Li Group the only one who can help you now?”
The last resort, the solution that wasn’t really a solution.
Hearing the words “Li Group” from Song Wenzhi’s mouth was Yu Kunian’s greatest surprise of the day. The Alpha looked at Song Wenzhi; there was a bit more searching in the Omega’s eyes, and a hint of some unidentifiable hesitation, which gave Yu Kunian a faint sense of unease.
“Zhizhi, who went to find you again?” The Alpha’s hand tightened slightly. “Yang Jin, or Yu Dai?”
Song Wenzhi looked away and only said, “You answer me first.”
“It’s not possible.” Yu Kunian did not answer her question but shook her head, her eyes filled with determination. “Zhizhi, it’s not possible. No matter what words they said to you, do not believe them. What they are looking for is the most convenient possibility, but it is not suitable for me. Zhizhi, listen to me, okay?”
The Alpha must have had some suspicion. Song Wenzhi looked at her again. Hearing what Yu Kunian said, she could only lean in closer to kiss the Alpha’s cheek, then asked with a trembling voice, “But what will you do, Yu Kunian?”
What should be done?
What exactly was the right thing to do? Song Wenzhi was asking Yu Kunian, but she was also asking herself.
Yu Kunian said, “I will handle it, Zhizhi. I’ll just handle it.” The Alpha spoke softly, but if she were asked whether she had found a way, she probably wouldn’t be able to answer.
If she could really find a way, she would have started solving it long ago during these days of torment.
Song Wenzhi didn’t speak, and Yu Kunian stood up, smoothing the Omega’s slightly messy hair. “Zhizhi, it’s very late. You have class tomorrow morning, so you should rest early. Don’t overthink it. I’ll be home later; don’t wait up for me.”
The Omega wanted to stay here with Yu Kunian, but she also knew that even if she stayed, she couldn’t change anything, and it would be better not to distract Yu Kunian by making her take care of her. So Song Wenzhi could only nod. She curled her trembling fingertips into her palm and forced out a smile, “I know.”
The Alpha kissed the Omega, repeatedly telling her to be at ease, and then saw her off.
The Alpha turned back a moment later. The company was still brightly lit. She returned to her office, and the silence flooded the space once more. Not long after Yu Kunian silently organized the documents on her desk, she walked out again, heading toward the underground parking garage.
Yu Kunian didn’t want to fight with Yu Dai and Yang Jin. She wasn’t in the mood recently to argue meaningless theories with those two; she just wanted them to drop the idea of a marriage alliance with the Li Group. They were clearly already married to Song Wenzhi, yet they were relentless and had even gone to find Song Wenzhi again, which was intolerable to Yu Kunian.
In the eyes of Yu Dai and Yang Jin, could her marriage be discarded so casually?
How ridiculous.
Yu Dai was not surprised to see Yu Kunian arrive; she thought Song Wenzhi must have made a choice. But unexpectedly, after Yu Kunian entered the house, she did not start a conflict with them. Instead, she sat on the sofa and asked for Yu Dai’s thoughts regarding Zhaoming Biotech’s current crisis.
“Currently, only the Li Group is willing to help you, but there are conditions.” It was rare to be able to speak with Yu Kunian so peacefully, and Yu Dai was clearly a bit surprised, only saying this sentence after a moment.
Yu Kunian asked back, “Why should I have the Li Group help?”
Yang Jin also walked over. “Niannian, we are all aware of the company’s situation. In this difficult circumstance, it is already rare that the Li Group is willing to help us.”
“So what? I don’t need it.” Yu Kunian’s tone was indifferent. It wasn’t that she looked down on the Li Group, but rather she was repulsed by the tied conditions of a marriage alliance. “Their daughter shouldn’t be lacking Alphas around her, so why must she choose me?”
When she saw Li Ci last time, the Alpha named Shen Qi was clearly Li Ci’s sweetheart. Firstly, she would not be the villain who breaks them apart, and secondly, she would not marry an Omega who already belonged to someone else. Furthermore, she was currently married; the Li family surely wasn’t afraid of becoming a laughingstock.
“Niannian, at a time like this, don’t throw a tantrum,” Yang Jin advised her.
Yu Dai said, “What they see is the development of Zhaoming Biotech.”
“In your eyes, is the company more important, or am I more important?” Yu Kunian asked coldly.
Both people in front of her were stunned. They didn’t answer the question for a long while, and Yu Kunian let out a self-deprecating laugh before slowly adding: “Marrying Zhizhi is a decision I have never regretted. There is nothing wrong with this marriage, yet simply because of the company, it is to be torn apart by you?”
It was a very absurd thing, and Yu Kunian had never expected it.
What did Yu Dai and Yang Jin think marriage was?
“To want to decide that this marriage is over without my consent—don’t you think that’s shameful?” Yu Kunian’s gaze gradually became sharp. She remained sitting there, her eyes sweeping over them, speaking word by word. “I will not agree to the Li Group’s conditions.”
Yu Dai’s expression darkened, and the atmosphere instantly became tense. “Yu Kunian, you must consider Zhaoming Biotech. Are you going to watch the company’s lifeblood be destroyed like this?”
“Then who will consider me?” Yu Kunian questioned immediately. She really wanted to know if they had ever considered her. This sentence echoed repeatedly in her mind. The Alpha sneered and said, “Why never consider my thoughts?”
This question received no answer. Yu Sheng walked out of the bedroom at some unknown time; she subconsciously lightened her steps, standing at the door watching the confrontation in the living room.
Yu Kunian didn’t expect to hear anything. She stood up and continued, “I will never enter a marriage alliance with the Li family. No matter what, Song Wenzhi is more important than anything else, including the company.”
Perhaps no one had expected Yu Kunian’s steadfastness toward Song Wenzhi, including Yu Sheng. She had originally thought Yu Kunian had just found any random Omega, but hearing what Yu Kunian said today, she felt extremely surprised—surprised by Song Wenzhi’s importance to Yu Kunian.
After speaking, Yu Kunian turned to leave. Yu Sheng hurried closer and called out, “Sister.” Yu Kunian paused and looked at her, seemingly waiting for what she had to say next, but Yu Sheng hesitated for a long time and couldn’t say anything in the end, only watching Yu Kunian walk out of the house.
Today wasn’t really a quarrel; Yu Kunian’s emotions were fairly stable. She didn’t go back to the company but went home.
It seemed everyone thought her marriage to Song Wenzhi was fake, and they also seemed to think they could divorce at any time. But Yu Kunian had never thought that; from the day she decided to marry Song Wenzhi, she never intended to separate.
She didn’t care whether others thought well of it or not.
The Alpha returned home with light footsteps. Song Wenzhi should have been asleep already, but she had left a light on for her. Yu Kunian took off her coat, and after washing up, she pushed open the bedroom door. The room was somewhat quiet. Yu Kunian quietly sat down beside Song Wenzhi.
The soundly sleeping Omega seemed to sense something. When the Alpha’s fingertips touched the Omega’s cheek, Song Wenzhi subconsciously nuzzled against them, feeling that bit of warmth. The Alpha’s eyes softened in the night, and a half-smile unknowingly touched the corners of her lips. She brushed the stray hairs from Song Wenzhi’s ear, indulging in the Omega’s intimacy.
There had been too many things recently, and Yu Kunian hadn’t had much free time to properly accompany Song Wenzhi. She felt she owed her; they hadn’t been married long, and even their honeymoon had been interrupted, yet Song Wenzhi had never expressed dissatisfaction, instead still considering her affairs in every way.
Yu Kunian felt that Song Wenzhi was wonderful in every aspect—so wonderful that she wanted to take Song Wenzhi and escape all the turmoil, and include Song Wenzhi in all her future plans.
President Yu of Lihua City was a famous identity, but it was also a shackle. Yu Kunian had long wanted to unlock this shackle.
In the gloom, the Alpha lifted a corner of the quilt and lay down. Although the movement was very light, Song Wenzhi still woke up. The Omega’s eyes were drowsy as she mumbled, “Yu Kunian, you’re back?”
“Mm.” Yu Kunian nodded. She turned on her side and put her arm around Song Wenzhi’s waist. When she lowered her head, the Omega’s soft hair brushed against her nose. The Alpha placed a kiss on Song Wenzhi’s forehead and said in a gentle voice, “Zhizhi, go back to sleep.”
