The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 51
Only with Zhizhi by my side can I sleep peacefully.
Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi’s honeymoon destination was ultimately set for Germany. They spent a period of time on the island of Sylt; although they weren’t completely isolated from work during the trip, they at least managed to thoroughly enjoy the wonders of that small island.
Unfortunately, their travels didn’t allow them enough time to explore other islands. After roughly half a month, Yu Kunian’s travel plans were interrupted by several urgent phone calls, leading to the decision to return home.
Song Wenzhi did not know the specific reason why Yu Kunian took the matter so seriously; the Alpha only told her it concerned the business of Zhaoming Biotech. That very night, Yu Kunian was already packing her luggage, intending to leave by plane the next day. Naturally, Song Wenzhi returned with her.
A honeymoon loses all its meaning if someone is missing.
Before the plane took off, Yu Kunian was still on the phone with her assistant. Song Wenzhi didn’t overhear much, but seeing Yu Kunian’s slightly solemn expression, she couldn’t help but feel worried as well.
“Is the situation at the company very serious?” Seeing Yu Kunian finally put down her phone, Song Wenzhi inquired out of concern.
Yu Kunian lowered her eyes. She remained silent for a moment before turning to look at Song Wenzhi, forcing a slight curve of her lips. “It’s nothing. Just a project failure and some losses; we need to come up with a contingency plan immediately. The decision-making power for the project lies with me, so I have to go back—Zhizhi, I’m sorry for interrupting our trip.”
Yu Kunian hadn’t slept well the night before. The problem she spoke of sounded minor, but Song Wenzhi found it hard to believe; otherwise, the Alpha wouldn’t currently have dark circles under her eyes and a face that could hardly hide its exhaustion. She knew Yu Kunian didn’t want her to worry, but her own furrowed brows already showed that she couldn’t help but be anxious for her.
“Yu Kunian, if something went wrong at the company, don’t worry about the trip anymore.” Song Wenzhi took her hand. “We are already married. Whatever happens, we should share the burden together.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian nodded. She leaned in closer and kissed the corner of Song Wenzhi’s mouth. “Thank you, Zhizhi.”
“Is the problem very thorny? Can I help with anything?” Song Wenzhi pursed her lips and asked again.
If she could help, that would be for the best.
Yu Kunian, however, only affectionately stroked the palm of her hand with her fingertip and said, “It’s not thorny. I will handle it. Don’t worry, Zhizhi.”
After all was said and done, Yu Kunian was still unwilling to tell her what had happened at Zhaoming Biotech. Although Song Wenzhi trusted Yu Kunian completely, she had a faint feeling that it was definitely not as simple as the Alpha claimed. However, she hoped her intuition was wrong.
She hoped that Zhaoming Biotech hadn’t truly run into a major disaster.
Song Wenzhi looked at Yu Kunian. This Alpha before her eyes had been handling work since early morning, and her expression was several degrees more fatigued compared to the relaxation of the previous few days. The Omega’s gaze lingered on Yu Kunian’s face for a long while; ultimately, she didn’t speak further and simply nodded.
The direct flight back to Lihua City would last for ten hours. They caught a flight around two in the afternoon from Germany. Packing had taken a long time, and neither of them had slept soundly the night before. Song Wenzhi felt much less tired after waking up from a nap, but the Alpha beside her was clearly exhausted, still sleeping deeply.
Yu Kunian’s eyebrows were even knit together, and her complexion today was not good. Not much color remained on her lips; instead, they appeared somewhat pale. Song Wenzhi leaned in, her movements as light as possible as her fair fingertips touched the Alpha’s brow, slowly smoothing it over.
She wanted to resolve Yu Kunian’s troubles, but she likely couldn’t help with much.
She could only smooth those tightly furrowed brows for Yu Kunian in this way.
By the time the plane landed at the airport in Lihua City, it was already around seven o’clock the next morning. Song Wenzhi was not used to sleeping soundly on planes, so her spirit was clearly much worse than it had been in Germany. Yu Kunian held her hand, letting the Omega lean against her to regain her senses.
“Zhizhi, I’ve called a car for you.” Yu Kunian lowered her head and spoke softly. “You go back first to rest. I’ll handle the luggage. You need to get a good sleep.”
Hearing this, Song Wenzhi stood up straight to meet her gaze. “Are you going to the company?”
Yu Kunian nodded. “The company’s affairs are better handled sooner rather than later.”
“But you also need to rest properly.” The Alpha’s complexion didn’t look much better either.
Yu Kunian gave her a light peck on the cheek. “Zhizhi, I will handle things and come home as soon as possible. Don’t worry, I won’t force myself if I feel unwell. But Zhizhi, do you know that you can barely keep your eyes open?”
As she spoke, Yu Kunian looked at her and laughed softly. The Alpha pinched the tip of her nose, her expression finally losing the tension from the plane, which allowed Song Wenzhi to stop worrying quite so much.
The next moment, Song Wenzhi was pulled into Yu Kunian’s embrace. The warmth of the Alpha’s hug finally put the Omega at ease. Song Wenzhi tilted her head, listening to the sound of Yu Kunian’s heartbeat, and after a moment, she reached up to hug the Alpha’s waist.
The early morning temperature was a bit low, and waves of cold air hit them inside the airport. Yu Kunian pulled a jacket out of her backpack and put it on Song Wenzhi, even wrapping it a bit tighter for her. Then, holding Song Wenzhi’s face, she said with a softened smile, “Wait for me at home, Zhizhi.”
Song Wenzhi responded, “Yu Kunian, send me a message promptly if anything happens.”
For some reason, Song Wenzhi didn’t feel at peace. Perhaps because she knew nothing about the company’s affairs, she subconsciously thought toward the worst-case scenario, which inevitably bred some anxiety. But she quickly dismissed it, repeatedly telling herself that things wouldn’t always be catastrophic; perhaps this time was just a simple accident.
Yu Kunian saw Song Wenzhi into the car. The wind outside the airport was very strong, blowing until the tip of one’s nose felt chilled. Yu Kunian’s hair became a bit messy from the wind. This temperature made her feel even more calm. Looking at the string of messages sent by her assistant, she stood in place for a long time without moving.
The fingertips that were warm just a moment ago were now only icy. The Alpha felt that what she was wearing seemed a bit too thin—so thin that she felt as if her entire body was chilled to the bone.
After standing in the wind for an unknown amount of time, Yu Kunian finally got into the car headed for the company.
On the way, the Alpha’s gaze remained fixed out the window. She didn’t reply to any more of the assistant’s messages; there was an added sense of resolve in those eyes.
Because of this sudden emergency, the employees of the entire project team were inevitably working overtime. Everyone was frantically trying to find a solution, yet they remained empty-handed, leaving them as anxious as ants on a hot griddle.
They had celebrated the project’s success not long ago, and yet it hadn’t been long before they suffered a severe blow. If this problem could not be solved, everyone would be finished.
Including Zhaoming Biotech.
When Yu Kunian returned to the company, her assistant was already waiting impatiently to find her. She reported the entire situation, her voice laced with unconcealed worry.
“Why did they breach the contract?” Yu Kunian asked while flipping through the documents in her hand.
The assistant lowered her head. “We don’t know yet. It was too sudden, without any warning. People from the relevant departments are still investigating the cause.”
Yu Kunian didn’t speak. The only sound in the office was the rustling of pages turning. The heavy atmosphere had been permeating the Zhaoming Biotech office building since yesterday.
After finishing the documents, Yu Kunian finally looked up. She remained as calm and composed as ever as she met the assistant’s gaze and asked again, “Didn’t we contact their company? What did they say?”
The assistant looked at her with hesitation before saying, “They admitted to the breach and are willing to take responsibility. They will pay the compensation according to the breach clauses of the contract to make up for the losses.”
Yu Kunian withdrew her gaze. Hearing this answer, it was as if she had expected it.
“The compensation can’t fully cover our losses,” Yu Kunian said simply.
The assistant immediately panicked; she was unable to maintain her composure. “President Yu, they aren’t the only watch manufacturer. Can’t we find another partner? At the very least, our current product production can’t just stop here. Those batches are already half-finished…”
Yu Kunian looked at her. “The CPP technology we use has very high requirements for the watch materials. If the stored pheromones cannot integrate well with the watch material, then even if they are made, they cannot be delivered. So far, they are the only ones who have passed the product tests. Even if other manufacturers are willing to cooperate with us, it would be a wasted effort.”
It was precisely because of this uniqueness that a unilateral breach by the other party would bring immeasurable losses to Zhaoming Biotech.
The manufacturer had cut off their supply of materials, causing an unexpected halt in production. This was a nightmare sufficient to plunge Zhaoming Biotech into endless panic.
This problem was more than just “thorny.”
By the time Yu Kunian returned home, Song Wenzhi had already finished her rest and woken up. The Omega was sitting on the sofa, looking at the television with a worried expression. In truth, all her attention was on the phone that hadn’t received any messages.
It wasn’t until she heard the sound of the door opening that Song Wenzhi’s heart finally settled. She stood up and walked toward the door. Yu Kunian was still exhausted, but her complexion at least looked much better. Before the Omega could speak, the Alpha handed her the dessert in her hand.
“A newly opened shop. I happened to pass by and bought some to try.” Yu Kunian hadn’t had a chance to eat today. She took off her coat and smiled at the Omega.
Song Wenzhi took it, not forgetting to ask, “Has the company matter been handled?”
“Don’t worry.” Yu Kunian didn’t give a definitive answer. She spoke ambiguously and then changed the subject.
Song Wenzhi didn’t notice anything amiss. She only knew that Yu Kunian had been busy for so long and must be even more exhausted than before. Thus, before she had even finished the dessert, she urged the Alpha to go rest.
Yu Kunian was holding her, closing her eyes and saying in a low voice, “Zhizhi, accompany me.”
Song Wenzhi shook her head. “Yu Kunian, I’m going to cook. By the time you wake up, it will be time to eat.”
Yu Kunian held her and wouldn’t let go. The Alpha kissed the Omega’s nape and murmured, “Zhizhi, after I wake up, I’ll be the one to cook.”
Song Wenzhi wanted to say something more, but she was already being lifted by the waist by Yu Kunian. The Omega let out a subconscious cry of surprise and then hurried to wrap her arms around the Alpha’s neck. “Yu Kunian, wait—”
“I won’t wait,” Yu Kunian said with a smile. She was already walking toward the bedroom. Without giving Song Wenzhi a chance to refuse, they lay down together on the bed.
Yu Kunian kissed Song Wenzhi’s lips, and after pulling away, she said:
“Only with Zhizhi by my side can I sleep peacefully.”
