The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 49
Happy Wedding
Yu Dai and Yang Jin eventually showed up at the wedding venue. Though their expressions seemed slightly strained, they maintained a normal composure for the sake of the Commission’s news department representatives. They couldn’t risk letting outsiders perceive any discord.
Yu Kunian had intentionally invited the news department as guests. She wanted a formal report of her marriage published to effectively crush any lingering hopes other families had for a political alliance. Furthermore, with the press cameras flashing, Yu Dai and Yang Jin wouldn’t dare cause a scene or attempt to break her and Song Wenzhi apart during the ceremony.
Yu Dai was a woman who valued face above all else; she would never allow a family scandal to be aired publicly. No matter how reluctant she was, she had to stand by and watch Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi complete their vows.
Everything was unfolding exactly as Yu Kunian had calculated.
Yu Kunian first led Song Wenzhi to meet Yu Dai and Yang Jin. She held the Omega’s hand firmly as she offered a brief introduction. She knew perfectly well that Yu Dai had already thoroughly investigated Song Wenzhi’s background beforehand.
Yu Dai didn’t look Song Wenzhi directly in the eye. Her gaze swept the room before she asked, seemingly offhand, “Miss Song, where are your parents? Have they not arrived yet?”
Song Wenzhi froze. Just as she was about to explain, Yu Kunian spoke up for her: “Her mother is very busy with work and couldn’t make it. We have already discussed it with her.”
“An event of this magnitude, and she is still busy with work?” A flicker of sarcasm crossed Yu Dai’s face. “The Commission has plenty of work too, yet I managed to come. What urgent business could Miss Song’s family possibly have?”
Song Wenzhi’s breath hitched. The words were sharp and piercing; she couldn’t maintain her composure. Even though Yu Dai wasn’t looking at her, Song Wenzhi felt as though her every attempt at privacy had been easily shattered.
Yu Kunian’s brow furrowed. She took a half-step forward, shielding her partner, and said impatiently, “Since Mother is so concerned about the Commission’s public affairs, perhaps you should go back to work. There’s no need to waste your time here.”
“Kunian, your mother didn’t mean it that way,” Yang Jin hurried to play the mediator.
Yu Kunian countered immediately, “Then what did she mean? I told you, I’ve already settled things with Zhizhi’s mother. Does Mother not believe me?”
“Of course not, Kunian, don’t overthink it.” Yang Jin’s expression softened. She then turned to Song Wenzhi with a gentle smile and pulled out a gift box. “Wenzhi, since this is our first meeting, we didn’t know what you’d like, so we picked out a set of jewelry for you.”
Song Wenzhi felt the gift was too expensive and tried to decline, but Yu Kunian reached out, took it, and handed it to her. The Alpha’s attitude toward Yu Dai didn’t soften just because of the gift. “The food today is quite good. Mother, Mama, please make sure to eat your fill.”
And talk less.
With that, Yu Kunian tilted her head and leaned closer to Song Wenzhi, whispering for her not to take it to heart. Song Wenzhi shook her head; she wasn’t too affected, she just didn’t want to continue the conversation. As they prepared to leave, Yu Dai’s expression soured further, but she remained silent. A moment later, a voice called out “Sister” from a distance.
Yu Sheng had arrived. Yu Kunian stopped and watched her Omega younger sister trot toward them. She was dressed formally, her hair specially styled, stopping before them with a bright smile.
“Sister, Sister Wenzhi, happy wedding.” Yu Sheng handed over a gift box. She stared at Song Wenzhi for a long time, but unlike Yang Jin’s scrutinizing gaze, her look felt comfortable to Song Wenzhi.
Yu Kunian officially introduced Yu Sheng to Song Wenzhi. This Omega was slightly shorter than the Alpha and four years younger than Yu Kunian. She looked quite innocent with a harmless face; even Song Wenzhi felt that she was someone who needed protection and shouldn’t be hurt.
Yu Sheng lived up to that impression, being sweet-tongued with her compliments. However, after a few words, she was called away by Yang Jin. Yu Kunian didn’t linger; Jiang Qiu had just messaged saying she was arriving, so she led Song Wenzhi toward the entrance.
Yu Dai watched Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi’s retreating backs, then looked at Yu Sheng and sighed. “Go and talk some sense into your sister.”
Yu Sheng shook her head quickly. “I can’t control Sister’s affairs. Once she decides something, no one can persuade her otherwise.”
Yang Jin sat down nearby. “Your sister is currently confused and has made a foolish decision. Do not learn from her.”
Yu Sheng remained silent, her internal emotions hard to read, though a smile stayed on her face. “Mama, I think Sister and Sister Wenzhi are quite good together, why—”
“What’s ‘good’ about it?” Yu Dai interrupted sharply. “That Omega’s family background is mediocre. She is of no help to Zhaoming Biotech; she might even become a drag on us. What is good about that?”
Yu Sheng swallowed the rest of her sentence and said sheepishly, “How could Sister Wenzhi be a drag?”
Yu Dai wanted to list examples of Song Wenzhi’s family situation, but the moment she opened her mouth, she felt a surge of irritation. She fell silent and told Yu Sheng not to ask further. Seeing her mother’s foul mood, Yu Sheng didn’t push her luck. After a few casual words, she turned and went to find Yu Kunian.
Yu Kunian was chatting with Song Wenzhi and some newly arrived guests. Yu Sheng approached with her warm smile, but after calling out “Sister,” she froze in her tracks. The expression on her face completely collapsed.
Seeing her arrive, Yu Kunian introduced her: “Let me introduce you. This is Jiang Qiu, and this is Wen Yan.”
Jiang Qiu didn’t speak. Her reaction was almost identical to Yu Sheng’s; her face fell uncontrollably, and her breathing became erratic in that instant. But as an Alpha, she retained some logic. She quickly regained her composure, lowered her eyes, and inconspicuously took the hand of Wen Yan beside her.
Yu Sheng saw it clearly.
The atmosphere grew strangely awkward. Yu Kunian frowned, looking from Yu Sheng to Jiang Qiu. “Do you two know each other?”
Jiang Qiu and Yu Sheng spoke in unison: “No.”
Both denied it without hesitation, yet neither dared to look at the other.
Yu Kunian didn’t notice the depth of it. She had only intended for a brief introduction. Once finished, she turned to Song Wenzhi and asked softly, “Are you hungry? Do you want to get something to eat?”
Song Wenzhi nodded. “Okay.”
Yu Kunian moved to lead her away, but to her surprise, Jiang Qiu followed along with Wen Yan. Only Yu Sheng remained standing there, the Omega staring at Jiang Qiu’s back for a long time.
Yu Kunian glanced at Jiang Qiu and joked, “Why are you crashing our world for two?”
Jiang Qiu seemed dazed and didn’t hear her. Her gaze drifted aimlessly as she slowly released the Omega’s hand. Wen Yan noticed the shift in Jiang Qiu’s mood and asked her about it with concern.
Seeing this, Yu Kunian stopped talking to Jiang Qiu and leaned closer to Song Wenzhi. Gently stroking the palm of Song Wenzhi’s hand, the Alpha whispered, “Are you tired?”
“Not tired,” Song Wenzhi replied, shaking her head. This was her wedding with Yu Kunian; no matter how much there was to do, she wouldn’t feel tired.
The corners of Yu Kunian’s lips turned up. She felt herself falling into the smiling eyes of Song Wenzhi. Seeing the Omega so happy because of their wedding was a sight Yu Kunian cherished.
“Eat a little bit to line your stomach. You won’t have a chance to eat for a while later.” Yu Kunian leaned very close to Song Wenzhi. She reached up to tuck a stray lock of hair behind the Omega’s ear. Her warm fingertip accidentally brushed against Song Wenzhi’s earring, the slight movement once again stirring the Alpha’s heart.
Noticing Yu Kunian staring at her, Song Wenzhi looked down at herself, thinking she might have a stain on her clothes. “What is it?”
Yu Kunian’s eyes were tender. She didn’t speak immediately, but her fingertip touched the corner of Song Wenzhi’s eye. Meeting the Omega’s gaze, the Alpha’s smile deepened.
“Zhizhi, I was thinking about where we should go for our honeymoon.”
Song Wenzhi hadn’t had time to think about that recently. She didn’t really have any specific place in mind. She occasionally heard teachers at school talk about where they went on vacation, but it always sounded too crowded. Song Wenzhi didn’t like crowded places, so other than for work, she had never really traveled. Even when Xia Weichi wanted to take her along previously, she hadn’t gone.
“Shall we travel abroad?” Yu Kunian had a few places in mind. She sought Song Wenzhi’s opinion.
Looking at Yu Kunian’s face, Song Wenzhi couldn’t help but look forward to the trip. As long as she was with Yu Kunian, she would be happy anywhere. So, she nodded. “You decide.”
“Mhm,” Yu Kunian said. “I’ll make the arrangements.”
Song Wenzhi felt at ease; Yu Kunian would surely consider everything thoroughly. However, she noticed that Wen Yan, across from them, was barely eating. She asked, “Is the food not to your taste?”
Wen Yan waved her hands quickly, her voice small. “No, it’s fine. I’m just… not very hungry.”
Jiang Qiu had snapped out of her daze, though she didn’t look well. Hearing Wen Yan, she frowned and looked at the dishes on the table. After a moment’s thought, she said to Song Wenzhi, “She just returned to the country and isn’t used to these. I’ll take her to get something else.”
After spending some time together, Jiang Qiu had started to figure Wen Yan out. The Omega never wanted to trouble others; even if the food didn’t suit her, she would worry about being a burden. Since Wen Yan was to be her future fiancée, Jiang Qiu knew the Omega would subconsciously ignore her own needs, so Jiang Qiu was making an effort to understand and take care of her.
With that, Jiang Qiu and Wen Yan rose to leave. Wen Yan was still nervously explaining to Jiang Qiu that she wasn’t that hungry. The two still seemed to have a sense of formal distance between them.
Song Wenzhi found it strange. During the introduction, it was mentioned they were getting engaged, but their interaction seemed more like that of strangers. She instinctively looked at Yu Kunian. The Alpha seemed to know what she was thinking and explained, “Their marriage is an alliance between two families. They haven’t known each other long and are still in the phase of getting to know one another.”
Hearing the word “alliance,” Song Wenzhi thought of something else, but before she could speak, she saw Xia Weichi walking toward them.
Xia Weichi hadn’t come to the wedding just to witness the union. She came to back Song Wenzhi up. She knew Song Wenzhi’s mother wasn’t attending and that, aside from the teachers and friends from Lihua University, Song Wenzhi didn’t have many relatives there. She also knew Yu Dai was a prominent figure in the Commission and would likely look down on Song Wenzhi’s ordinary background.
Thus, Xia Weichi was attending the wedding in her capacity as a partner of an international medical organization.
