The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 44
“Zhizhi, You Are Important”
Yu Kunian’s temporary marking this time was naturally different from the last. After all, glands are sensitive by nature, let alone in the unique state of a fever period. The Alpha’s hand brushed through the Omega’s scattered hair; she comforted her incessantly, then exerted her utmost effort to gently touch Song Wenzhi’s gland to begin the temporary marking.
Song Wenzhi froze at Yu Kunian’s movements. Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and her hand almost unconsciously gripped the Alpha’s palm, her warm, ragged breath hitting Yu Kunian’s collarbone. The gland had swollen due to the onset of the fever period, and the undeniable pain clamored incessantly. Only when that scent of mint swept over, bringing a coolness with it, was her pain soothed.
Previously, she could have endured the fever period with a little effort, but now, simply because Yu Kunian was here, the Omega could no longer grit her teeth and persist. Compared to before, she now seemed to have become delicate. She didn’t know if it was an illusion, but she seemed more dependent on Yu Kunian than she had imagined.
Song Wenzhi leaned weakly against Yu Kunian’s shoulder. A faint sourness rose in her eyes; the hand held tightly by the Alpha was so scorching that it made her heart run hot as well. Having grown used to enduring the fever period alone, it was only tonight, seeing the person she liked worrying for her, that Song Wenzhi suddenly realized—if it were possible, she didn’t want to be alone.
The Alpha’s embrace and the soft, low coaxing echoing in her ear were addictive.
Song Wenzhi never looked back to dwell on the hardships she had already experienced; she had never feared the recurring agony of the fever period. But now, as Yu Kunian held her tightly and, after laboriously finishing the marking, kissed her fingertips, the Omega felt in that instant that she no longer had to pretend nothing was wrong.
When it hurt, she could tell Yu Kunian, without reservation.
The Alpha’s eyes looked like a pair of gems under the dim yellow lamplight. Her gaze falling upon her was filled with an overflow of concern and unstoppable heartache. Yu Kunian’s brow was furrowed, and her breathing could not remain calm. Perceiving the Omega’s distress, she released even more pheromones, hoping to reduce this grinding hardship for Song Wenzhi.
It wasn’t until the buffer of the temporary marking had completely ended and the pain from the gland finally began to dissipate that the Omega had the strength to change her posture, reaching out both arms to wrap around Yu Kunian’s back.
Song Wenzhi closed her eyes and said, “Yu Kunian, it’s okay now.”
Yu Kunian pulled out a tissue from the side and meticulously wiped the thin sweat from the neck of the Omega in her arms. She also finally breathed a sigh of relief. “Zhizhi, it’s over.”
Yu Kunian hadn’t expected Song Wenzhi’s fever period to be this painful. She hadn’t known much before, assuming that while an Omega’s fever period involved pain, it was somewhat tolerable. Recalling Xia Weichi’s instructions, Yu Kunian cupped Song Wenzhi’s cheeks. “The marking happened earlier than I anticipated. Zhizhi, if anything feels wrong after tonight, even just a little bit, you must tell me.”
Xia Weichi hadn’t said what the consequences of an early marking would be; this kind of unknown was even more worrying.
Song Wenzhi nodded. She unconsciously rubbed her cheek against Yu Kunian’s palm, her eyes half-closed, appearing exhausted. Yu Kunian held her as they lay back down on their sides. This time, the Alpha had no desire to sleep at all; she only coaxed Song Wenzhi to sleep first, keeping a constant watch on the Omega’s condition.
That night, Yu Kunian didn’t sleep well. Her nerves were somewhat overstrained, to the point where the slightest movement would make her reflexively open her eyes. After several rounds of this, she herself had broken into quite a sweat and found it difficult to fall into a deep sleep until dawn.
After ensuring that Song Wenzhi would no longer have any abnormalities, Yu Kunian got out of bed with a yawn. While replying to some work messages from the company, she went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
When Song Wenzhi woke up and found the space beside her empty, her heart skipped a beat. She picked up her phone to check the time and sat on the bed with lowered eyes to regain her senses. Not seeing the person there made the Omega feel empty, but fortunately, the mint scent in the room was strong enough to fill the insecurity of her fever period.
Thinking Yu Kunian had gone to work, Song Wenzhi slowly got dressed, intending to make a phone call. To her surprise, just as she opened the bedroom door and walked out, she saw Yu Kunian coming out of the kitchen carrying two glasses of soy milk. On the dining table sat slices of toasted bread.
The Alpha looked at her, the corners of her lips turning up. “You’re up? Perfect. Go wash up; breakfast is almost ready, Zhizhi.”
Song Wenzhi was dazed. She froze in place for a few seconds, having the illusion that they had already been married for a long time. The Omega looked at Yu Kunian and followed suit with a smile; she was joyful and delighted because of this Alpha.
After washing up, Song Wenzhi sat beside Yu Kunian. Taking the toast handed to her, she took a bite and swallowed before asking hesitantly, “Aren’t you going to work today?”
“No,” Yu Kunian answered quickly. “Until your fever period is over, I’ll be taking leave. If there’s anything urgent, I’ll handle it online at home.”
Song Wenzhi said, “Yu Kunian, you don’t have to delay your work for me.”
What she had originally thought was that it would be enough for Yu Kunian to accompany her after work hours.
Yu Kunian looked at her and shook her head. “Zhizhi, based on last night’s situation, I can’t be too far from you.” She remained worried that some unpredictable accident might occur with Song Wenzhi.
Song Wenzhi: “After the temporary marking, I shouldn’t have any more problems.”
Yu Kunian: “Zhizhi, you said it yourself, ‘shouldn’t.’ None of us can guarantee it one hundred percent.”
Meeting Yu Kunian’s gaze, Song Wenzhi still felt it was somewhat inappropriate. The Alpha’s company was in an important stage after the investment fair; if Yu Kunian didn’t go to the office at all, it was inevitable they might lose some clients.
However, as if seeing through Song Wenzhi’s thoughts, Yu Kunian leaned in closer and tapped her forehead with some helplessness. “Zhizhi, I’ve made arrangements. You don’t need to worry about me. Furthermore—” The Alpha’s voice paused, and then her smile brightened, her eyes tinged with a layer of softness, her pupils reflecting the Omega’s figure. “Zhizhi, you are important.”
Song Wenzhi was stunned for a long while.
An unprecedented sense of groundedness settled in her heart. The Omega said nothing more; she seemed to fall into the Alpha’s gaze. Those words were like the distant sound of a drum, the resonance echoing repeatedly in her ears, eventually feeling like a searing seal deeply branded onto her heart, never to fade.
A smile also welled up in the Omega’s eyes. “Mhm, I know.”
And so, for several days in a row, Yu Kunian stayed home to accompany Song Wenzhi safely through her fever period. Through continuous observation, the Alpha boldly guessed that the consequence of the early marking Xia Weichi had mentioned was likely that the feverish Song Wenzhi had become even more inseparable from her.
Her mint scent seemed to hold a massive attraction for Song Wenzhi; even just a lack of pheromone comfort would cause Song Wenzhi’s emotions to become unstable. Yu Kunian didn’t quite understand an Omega’s dependence on an Alpha’s pheromones, but judging from Song Wenzhi’s reactions, her mint pheromones seemed vital.
After the fever period ended, both Song Wenzhi and Yu Kunian threw themselves back into their busy work. A portion of matters requiring Song Wenzhi’s attention had piled up at Lihua University, and Yu Kunian similarly had a batch of collaborations to negotiate. It was as if they had returned to the eve of the investment fair; amidst the busyness, they only had time to meet and date in the evenings.
Fortunately, the hard work yielded results. Yu Kunian secured several orders. Many people were already willing to buy Zhaoming Biotech’s new products, and several overseas bosses had sent representatives to discuss cooperation with Yu Kunian. The current number of orders far exceeded the Alpha’s expectations.
Yu Kunian was finally able to set her mind at ease and invest a large amount of capital into producing this new type of wristwatch. The manufacturers they had already signed contracts with also began to provide production materials, and they were involved in a portion of the specific processing.
This was likely the best news Zhaoming Biotech had received in recent times.
The weather gradually turned cooler. Initially, Yu Kunian would pick up Song Wenzhi for dates outside the campus, but later she began entering the school to wait for the Omega to finish her classes in her office. Occasionally, Yu Kunian would sit at the very back of the classroom during “Teacher Song’s” lectures.
Word was that Xia Weichi was engaged in some confidential work, and it was rare that no one came to disturb them during these days, so their dates were naturally very smooth.
Aside from these arrangements, Yu Kunian recently received an unexpected invitation. It was an invitation to the centennial anniversary of a high school in Yin City; as a famous entrepreneur, the school wanted to invite her to attend.
Yin City High School No. 4—the school where Yu Kunian had once spent nearly a year.
Yu Kunian had deep memories of this school because she was one of the few Alphas at No. 4 at the time. That period was also an extremely difficult time for her, all thanks to Yu Dai and Yang Jin.
Originally, Yu Kunian didn’t intend to participate in this school anniversary, but her teacher from back then sent her a message, wanting her to come and see the changes at No. 4 today. After all, Yu Kunian had later donated quite a bit of funding to the school. Having received that teacher’s care back then, Yu Kunian still remembered her kindness, so she couldn’t refuse the invitation this time.
Coincidentally, Song Wenzhi also had things to do that day. Yu Kunian thought it was a coincidence but didn’t think much of it, traveling to Yin City a day in advance.
The last time she came was because of Song Wenzhi. This time, standing at the gate of No. 4, Yu Kunian suddenly felt that times had changed. When she had suddenly transferred from Lihua City to Yin City back then, she only felt panic and fear because she had lost the protection of Yu Dai and Yang Jin and had to suddenly adapt to an unfamiliar city.
To this day, Yu Kunian still didn’t know why she had been sent to Yin City to study, especially since the teaching and other resources in Lihua City were far better than those in Yin City. And when Yang Jin had entrusted her to her aunt, Yang Yu, it was essentially leaving her to live alone.
Perhaps No. 4 was still an existence that made her feel somewhat constrained, even though she had left Yin City many years ago.
