The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 45
“Zhizhi, let’s get married.”
Yu Kunian still remembered the helplessness she felt back then when Yang Yu sent her to No. 4 Middle School. In her entire class, she was the only Alpha; in the entire school, there were only a handful of Alphas. At that time, because the school’s medical conditions were lagging, there was a shortage of Alpha-related suppressants, and the application process for distribution was still ongoing. Yu Kunian hadn’t expected this, and presumably, neither had Yu Dai or Yang Jin.
Otherwise, Yu Kunian would not have caused a panic among the school’s Omegas due to a sudden rut. Her pheromones affected many students, and for a while, there were no emergency suppressants available for her to use.
At that moment, Yu Kunian couldn’t reach Yu Dai or Yang Jin, and Yang Yu had already flown to another city for work. For the first time in her life, the Alpha felt what it meant to be “completely alone in the world.”
The classes on her entire floor were suspended because of her pheromones, and all the students had to temporarily return to their dormitories to avoid being affected. Yu Kunian’s Beta homeroom teacher went to buy suppressants for her. Looking at her phone—unable to get a call through—the Alpha could no longer sit calmly in the empty classroom.
Yu Kunian tried to wear several layers of coats to mask her pheromones, but it was clearly a futile effort. She quickly walked out of the teaching building, realizing she couldn’t stay in a public place, or she would surely cause unnecessary trouble for others.
So, Yu Kunian went to the equipment room behind the playground. It was a small space, piled high with clutter. Although called an equipment room, it had long been abandoned and was mostly used to store things that would never be used again. This was a place the Alpha had discovered by accident; she thought that at least here, her pheromones wouldn’t interfere with other students’ classes.
But Yu Kunian didn’t expect an Omega to be in the equipment room.
The Alpha’s pheromones were already strong enough to easily fill the tiny room. The Omega was clearly unprepared for this; she retreated in panic, but her nose had already been brushed by the forceful scent of peppermint.
Yu Kunian was startled by the sudden appearance of the Omega. She also stepped back, apologizing while preparing to push the door open. Remembering why she had come, she covered her gland with her hand. She didn’t dare look at the other person, only hanging her head and retreating into a cramped corner before pleading for the Omega to leave.
An Alpha in heat is usually emotionally sensitive and irritable, and their rational control decreases, leading them to be dominated by pheromonal instincts—especially when facing an Omega. Most Alphas in the early stages of differentiation—those who have been differentiated for less than a year—are the most likely to lose their minds.
—Yu Kunian was an exception.
When she transferred to No. 4 Middle School, she had been differentiated for less than half a year. Although the rut did make her emotions unstable and her irritability was evident, she instinctively released soothing pheromones when facing the Omega in the equipment room.
Because that Omega’s pheromones, whether due to her or some other reason, also seemed to be out of control. Although the concentration wasn’t strong, it was still keenly perceived by Yu Kunian. Amidst her chaotic thoughts, the Alpha did not forget to calm the Omega’s state.
The feeling of losing control of one’s pheromones is very unpleasant. Yu Kunian felt that the Omega must feel the same way, so she did her best to use her soothing scent to reduce the discomfort caused by the loss of control.
Perhaps because of this subconscious act, Yu Kunian received a blocking patch handed over by the Omega.
A universal blocking patch gave the Alpha a temporary “breather,” allowing her to leave the equipment room without having to hide and wait for the medicine. The Alpha immediately asked for leave and went home.
Due to her muddled thoughts during the rut, Yu Kunian only remembered the general details of that day. She hadn’t looked closely at the Omega’s figure, and the other’s pheromones had long since blurred in her memory. She had left in such a hurry that she forgot to say thank you.
Later, she tried to find that Omega, but there were so many students in the school that she had no way to start her search. She never saw the person in the equipment room again, and eventually, the matter was dropped.
Yu Kunian snapped back from her memories, her gaze falling on the renovated teaching building. The school had indeed changed a lot. She wondered if that equipment room was now permanently closed.
The old streetlamp at the school gate stretched Yu Kunian’s shadow long. The Alpha lowered her eyes; her gaze filled with complex emotions. She had always wanted to ask Yu Dai why she had been sent to Yin City and then left ignored, but over the years, she had never asked.
The school at night was silent. What she had experienced in the past seemed to have become hazy. Yu Kunian stood in place for a long time before turning to leave.
This time, for the No. 4 Middle School anniversary, the school had invited Yu Kunian partly to thank her for her donations in recent years, and partly because the school wanted to cooperate with Zhaoming Biotech. Therefore, Yu Kunian had no reason to refuse and had to participate.
The next day, the school leaders met with Yu Kunian before the anniversary ceremony began. Regarding the cooperation, Yu Kunian did not decide immediately, but instead wanted to think about it for a while.
Logically speaking, in any city, it is a beneficial thing for an enterprise to reach a cooperation with a public school. It not only enhances the company’s prestige but also provides a long-term and stable partner. Even in Yin City, which couldn’t compare to the high-speed development of Lihua City, it would definitely be a plus for Zhaoming Biotech.
Yu Kunian just didn’t know why she was hesitating.
But No. 4 Middle School was willing to give Yu Kunian time to consider, as they were very optimistic about her as a partner.
After finishing the discussion, Yu Kunian looked somewhat preoccupied. Her knitted brows didn’t relax even after she walked out of the school conference room. The Alpha’s mood had been quite pleasant recently, but today her emotions were unusually heavy. She didn’t have a trace of a smile on her face as she wandered aimlessly through the campus.
The anniversary celebration was about to begin, and people entering the school were gradually gathering. Without realizing it, Yu Kunian walked to the front of that familiar equipment room.
After so many years, it surprisingly hadn’t been closed.
Only the door was broken, covered with the marks of time, but it seemed someone cleaned it regularly. Yu Kunian pushed the door open gently. Her gaze slowly fell inside; it was still just as narrow, with even more clutter than before.
The Alpha walked in. The window of the equipment room wasn’t large; aside from the light coming in from the door, the interior could almost be described as dim. There was a row of equipment racks in front of her. Yu Kunian turned her head, remembering the Omega she had seen back then, leaning against the very last rack.
A smile finally tugged at the corner of Yu Kunian’s lips. Although she could no longer remember the face that handed her the blocking patch, she still felt warmth from that act of kindness in her time of need.
Just like the few beams of light spilling into this dim room—soft and particularly bright.
Yu Kunian didn’t plan to stay long. She was just about to turn and leave when she heard the crisp sound of high heels clicking on the concrete floor at the entrance of the equipment room. The sound gradually approached and then stopped.
The Alpha instinctively turned back to look at the newcomer.
In the next moment, a flicker of surprise crossed Yu Kunian’s eyes.
The Omega standing at the door was equally startled to see Yu Kunian. Neither of them expected to meet the other here.
Song Wenzhi was wearing a dark cyan knit sweater paired with jeans today, with creamy white high heels. Her hair was half-tied up, reducing her usual sense of aloofness and adding a touch of warmth.
Yu Kunian was the first to speak: “Zhizhi, are you here for the anniversary?”
Song Wenzhi stepped inside and nodded. “The exchange meeting I attended here last time was very effective, so I was invited to the anniversary as well.”
Yu Kunian’s expression softened the moment she saw Song Wenzhi. “What a coincidence, I’m here too. I told you before that I stayed in Yin City for a while—it was at No. 4 Middle School.”
Song Wenzhi stopped beside her. After listening to her, the Omega was silent for a moment before saying, “I know.”
Those two words made Yu Kunian freeze. She looked at Song Wenzhi with a bit of confusion, but the Omega’s gaze was fixed on the very last equipment rack where Yu Kunian had just been looking.
At that moment, an incredible thought flashed through Yu Kunian’s mind.
Yu Kunian wanted to ask something, but her mouth opened without making a sound. She moved a few inches closer to Song Wenzhi, and when she met the Omega’s eyes, she saw a few traces of a soft smile emerging.
The Alpha took Song Wenzhi’s hand, her breath hitching for a moment before she finally asked: “Zhizhi, did you go to high school here too?”
“I didn’t study here for long. I transferred later,” Song Wenzhi said softly, lowering her eyes.
Yu Kunian’s eyes lit up. “Then did we meet back then, or… did we know each other?”
Hearing this, Song Wenzhi looked up at her again, her voice neither loud nor soft. “Yu Kunian, I know you. I met you here, many years ago.”
Back then, Yu Kunian had taken her blocking patch. Before leaving, she had hurriedly said to her: “My name is Yu Kunian. Please remember my name.”
Yu Kunian had wanted to repay her; Song Wenzhi knew that.
Although there was ultimately no opportunity, Song Wenzhi remembered Yu Kunian’s name, carving it into the depths of her heart.
Yu Kunian never imagined that the Omega was Song Wenzhi. And after all those twists and turns, she had unexpectedly ended up with the very Omega she had wanted to thank. Yu Kunian felt that this fate was incredibly deep; Song Wenzhi had remembered her for so long, and they had met again so coincidentally in Lihua City.
Yu Kunian said, “Blame me, I didn’t recognize you.”
Song Wenzhi shook her head. “That’s normal, Yu Kunian.”
Song Wenzhi had also thought she and Yu Kunian would never meet again. She hadn’t expected Lihua University to hire her as a professor for the joint college. The Omega simply wanted to be closer to Yu Kunian, even if they never had a chance to reunite.
That day in the piano room was a reunion that no one could have predicted.
Yu Kunian laughed. She asked again, “Why didn’t you say anything that time we met at Lihua University?” She had thought it was just a meeting with a stranger.
Song Wenzhi: “Yu Kunian, I was just…”
Just a passerby.
Before being with Yu Kunian, the Omega had always thought so.
It was just a blocking patch. Although it was precious to her at the time, helping a classmate was just an instinctive reaction. In fact, she should also thank Yu Kunian. Thus, Song Wenzhi didn’t need Yu Kunian’s repayment. Perhaps at the moment of the school transfer, they were already even.
Song Wenzhi believed she shouldn’t disturb Yu Kunian’s life. After all, she was just an insignificant Omega, and there was no need to use a simple act of assistance from many years ago to specifically identify herself to Yu Kunian. Perhaps Yu Kunian had long forgotten.
Seeing her stop mid-sentence, Yu Kunian couldn’t help but feel puzzled. She raised her hand to Song Wenzhi’s cheek, her fingertips gently stroking it as she waited patiently for the second half of the sentence.
Song Wenzhi remained silent for a long time. Meeting Yu Kunian’s gaze, her breath paused unintentionally before she added: “Yu Kunian, it was just a small matter.”
So small that Yu Kunian should have actually forgotten it.
Yu Kunian’s smile was soft, appearing even deeper. She intimately pressed her forehead against Song Wenzhi’s, her voice carrying a sense of solemnity: “It wasn’t a small matter. Zhizhi, to me, that was definitely not a small matter.”
She always remembered the feeling of being isolated and helpless in Yin City. The rutting accident shortly after transferring to No. 4 Middle School had made it even harder for her to fit in. When she was in Lihua City, although she wasn’t exactly the center of attention, at least she hadn’t encountered such a predicament. In an unfamiliar place, she felt particularly at a loss.
Song Wenzhi might not understand her concern, but Yu Kunian couldn’t ignore it. The Omega had given her a warm light in the midst of her panic.
Song Wenzhi was surprised by her reaction: “Yu Kunian?”
The Alpha let go of her, the deep affection in her eyes impossible to hide. Yu Kunian’s thumb brushed against Song Wenzhi’s lips as the Alpha said, “Zhizhi, if I had recognized you earlier—”
Earlier, even earlier, she could have repaid Song Wenzhi sooner.
But now, she was with Song Wenzhi, and she would have more time to show her gratitude.
At this moment, Yu Kunian was immensely grateful—grateful that she chose Song Wenzhi, grateful that she walked into the piano room that day, and grateful that she had stubbornly set her heart on Song Wenzhi. This Omega, in another way, had still reunited with her.
It didn’t need to be earlier.
She was satisfied with the current outcome.
Thinking of this, Yu Kunian held Song Wenzhi tightly. She laughed excitedly, feeling the Omega’s body temperature. The Alpha’s heart trembled for a moment as she whispered again, “Zhizhi.”
It took a beat for Song Wenzhi’s hand to stroke her back. Although she didn’t know why Yu Kunian was so emotional, she didn’t refuse again. “Yu Kunian, whether it was early or late, at least we are together now.”
The Alpha nodded. “Zhizhi, thank goodness.”
She wanted to say “thank goodness” many times. Perhaps fate allowed Yu Kunian to recognize Song Wenzhi at a glance like that, even though that day wasn’t a formal meeting. She wondered if this counted as destiny. Yu Kunian wanted to say that they were lucky not to have missed each other.
As the President of Zhaoming Biotech, Yu Kunian was always in a hurry. She had no time to stop for anyone, but Song Wenzhi was her exception. She would stay for Song Wenzhi; she wanted to make time for Song Wenzhi. She was willing to stop her footsteps for this Omega at any time.
Even if it was just for a meaningless whisper.
Yu Kunian thought, this was her instinct—the instinct of being inexplicably attracted to Song Wenzhi.
Therefore, Song Wenzhi was her only choice.
Yu Kunian let go of Song Wenzhi. At this moment, her gaze was incredibly firm. The Omega’s silhouette was embedded in her amber eyes. The Alpha turned serious, her smile like the sun, her voice clear with every word:
“Zhizhi, let’s get married.”
