The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 102
“Wherever you are, that’s where I’ll be.”
Song Wenzhi looked at her and asked softly, “Yu Kunian, do you plan on staying in New York?”
Yu Kunian took the Omega’s hand. “Wherever you are, that’s where I’ll be.”
“The Union is already under the jurisdiction of the Research Institute,” Song Wenzhi leaned in a bit closer. “So, do you have any other plans? Do you want to enter the Institute as well?”
“While I like being close to you, the work there isn’t suited for me. Zhizhi, my work can be for your sake, but if I were to actually take a position inside the Institute, it would be a bit difficult to accept.” Yu Kunian shook her head slightly; truth be told, she hadn’t quite decided what to do next.
Whether to continue with the biological R&D she was specialized in, or to pivot in a different direction.
Or rather, she hadn’t actually made a firm plan to stay in New York for the long term.
Yu Kunian suddenly realized that she had come here on impulse. Even if this had been part of the original plan, she perhaps hadn’t fully considered the future. After seeing Song Wenzhi, all other considerations had been cast aside; regarding herself, the Alpha hadn’t spared them another thought.
Doing biological R&D would mean finding a new team. The CPP technical side had been completely absorbed by the Research Institute. If she wanted to continue down that path, it would likely take considerable effort, and it might not even be feasible.
“Then what would be suitable for you?” Song Wenzhi asked.
Yu Kunian smiled, comforting the Omega: “Cheng Lu is very capable. It wouldn’t hurt for me to seek some advice from her and change directions. Zhizhi, don’t worry. Even without a job or income, my funds are sufficient to handle our future life.”
Song Wenzhi frowned slightly. “I’m not worried about that, Yu Kunian. It’s just that I feel…”
She felt that Yu Kunian wasn’t the type of person who would enjoy idle days, nor did she have the personality to just stay at home all the time. The Alpha was used to being busy, used to the kind of mental investment she had at Zhaoming Biotech. That kind of life was perhaps a form of enjoyment for Yu Kunian, or a way of realizing her self-worth.
Yu Kunian enjoyed the sense of accomplishment after finishing tasks at work, which was why Song Wenzhi was worried—worried that the Alpha was compromising herself for her sake.
The Alpha seemed to see through her thoughts. Her fingertips rubbed gently against the Omega’s palm a few times. “Zhizhi, I should rest for a while now, and then seriously consider what I want to do next. So, don’t worry for me. I am still Yu Kunian.”
Song Wenzhi nodded and said seriously, “Do what you want to do.”
“Alright.” Yu Kunian’s eyes crinkled with a smile. Then, remembering something, she rested her chin on the Omega’s shoulder. “Zhizhi, do you plan on living in New York permanently?”
Song Wenzhi went silent for a moment before saying, “It’s not certain yet, but I want to work here properly for a few years first before considering whether to settle down.”
Yu Kunian’s eyelashes fluttered. After a moment, she said, “I’ll stay with you.”
Song Wenzhi nodded, then kissed the Alpha’s lips, her face also breaking into a smile.
Her nose brushed against the Omega’s hair. Yu Kunian’s lips curled as she added, “Next, let’s watch a movie.”
Song Wenzhi rarely used the TV in the living room. Yu Kunian spoke up excitedly, then went to pull the curtains. The afternoon light wasn’t that strong to begin with, and now most of it was blocked out. The Alpha turned on the TV, found the movie they hadn’t finished last time, and returned to the sofa, leaning against the Omega’s side with an arm around her waist as they began to watch.
They liked days like this—a mundane moment, yet one where happiness was etched into their hearts.
The Alpha’s pheromones would leak out from time to time. Because she was no longer wearing blocking patches, the scent of mint lingered everywhere in Song Wenzhi’s home, and traces of the Alpha grew more and more frequent. Occasionally, Song Wenzhi would go out to buy things, and Yu Kunian would video call her, discussing what to buy from afar. During this period, life felt even happier than it had been in Lihua City.
Yu Kunian felt that “home” was supposed to be like this. They integrated into each other’s lives, gradually adopting each other’s habits, becoming more and more synchronized, and growing more reliant on and adjusted to physical contact. The hugging, kissing, and hand-holding finally made the Alpha understand that the life Song Wenzhi had always wanted was incredibly addictive.
The temperature in the house was a bit low at night. Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi fell asleep in each other’s arms. The room was dim, yet a few streaks of moonlight still spilled in, outlining the figures of the two on the bed.
The Alpha held the Omega tightly. Her brow furrowed slightly in deep sleep; Yu Kunian was dreaming.
In the dream, she remembered when she had first differentiated into an Alpha. She hadn’t been very good at restraining her pheromones, so she stayed at home during that time, learning how to control them. Yu Dai was very busy, always leaving after giving her a few simple instructions, leaving her all alone in the house.
The mint scent was very faint at first, but by dusk, the concentration of pheromones would become very high. Yu Kunian had to face all these situations she didn’t understand entirely on her own.
The Alpha had always thought that home was simply meant to be like that.
No warmth, no sound, and being all alone.
In fact, shortly after she learned to control her pheromones, she was hurriedly sent to Yin City overnight. Yu Dai entrusted Yang Yu to look after her, but at that time Yang Yu was even busier, exhausted from traveling back and forth between two cities, so Yu Kunian was still alone.
After meeting Song Wenzhi for the first time, she returned home wearing the blocking patch the Omega had given her, and for once, she ignored the silence of the house.
The pheromones on the gland no longer leaked continuously. In the dream, the Alpha turned, and the scene shifted to the grounds of No. 4 Middle School. She stood at the door of Song Wenzhi’s classroom, asking for the Omega’s name.
Song Wenzhi—she would remember it.
If she hadn’t left Yin City, if she and Song Wenzhi had known each other a little earlier…
Yu Kunian pulled Song Wenzhi into the storage room to find a place to sit. The door was half-closed, and the Alpha’s pheromones surrounded the Omega. Yu Kunian lowered her head to ask, “Are you still in pain?”
“It doesn’t hurt anymore.” Song Wenzhi handed her an earphone. “Thank you.”
Yu Kunian felt she must be smiling, because the Omega’s gaze was soft, no longer tormented by the pain in her gland.
And Song Wenzhi looked at her and said, “This city is too oppressive for me. It holds very painful memories and experiences that make me feel very sad.”
As a song ended, in the brief silence of the gap, Yu Kunian heard herself say, “Song Wenzhi, let me take you away from here, okay?”
Ding—
Yu Kunian slowly opened her eyes; she was awake.
The morning sunlight shining in was a bit hard to adjust to all at once. The Alpha squinted for a long time before fully waking up. The ringtone that had just woken her was still ringing continuously. Just as Yu Kunian was about to reach for her phone, the sound stopped abruptly.
Her fingers paused in mid-air. Yu Kunian was dazed for a moment.
The dream from last night flashed through her mind. It was a reflection of her own subconscious and her anxieties. Yu Kunian knew that when Song Wenzhi asked her yesterday if she liked their home in Lihua City, she had hesitated for a split second.
Compared to New York, she was indeed more accustomed to Lihua City.
But that city held the Omega’s pain, so Yu Kunian felt guilty for having that thought. In fact, from the moment she went abroad, she should have stopped thinking about anything related to Lihua City. Since it was a fresh start, she should naturally forget the past.
Yet Song Wenzhi’s proactive mention of it made Yu Kunian feel even more guilty.
She began to act with a bit of caution, afraid of making Song Wenzhi recall that bad city again—the place that had brought the Omega countless tears. Yu Kunian even wanted to establish herself in New York quickly and buy a house here, making it their new home.
Thus, she also avoided everything related to Lihua City.
Before her thoughts could finish, the phone rang again. This time Yu Kunian sat up quickly. Fearing she would wake Song Wenzhi, who was still sleeping beside her, she answered the call and walked quietly out of the bedroom.
She didn’t notice who the caller was at first. Only when the other party spoke did Yu Kunian realize it was Yu Sheng.
Standing by the living room window, Yu Kunian spoke first: “I told you I’ll help you find Jiang Qiu when I have time.”
“Sister, do you really not know where she went?” Yu Sheng’s voice sounded a bit weak and raspy.
Yu Kunian pinched the bridge of her nose. “I don’t know.”
Jiang Qiu had repeatedly instructed her not to reveal her whereabouts, so Yu Kunian had to cooperate. After all, what Yu Sheng had done was indeed a bit much—locking someone in a villa; it would be strange if Jiang Qiu didn’t run away.
Yu Sheng’s voice dropped. “Sister, if you find her, can you help me say ‘I’m sorry’ to her?”
The Alpha was silent for a moment.
Yu Kunian realized that Yu Sheng believed deep down that Jiang Qiu had run to her. Though she hadn’t said it outright, she had always thought Jiang Qiu was by Yu Kunian’s side. The Alpha thought for a moment and decided that Li Ci probably wouldn’t let it slip, so she added, “Say your own apologies yourself. I’ve been looking for so long and still haven’t found her; maybe she didn’t even leave the country.”
Yu Sheng said, “Her family is there. If she were to leave, New York is the most likely place.”
Yu Kunian was surprised: “How do you even know about her family situation?”
Yu Sheng didn’t speak. Yu Kunian had no way to keep asking if she wouldn’t talk. She let out a yawn, not wanting to continue the discussion, and said, “I’ll call you if I find her, don’t rush me. If you’re just calling me for this, then I hope you don’t call again. I’m hanging up.”
“Wait, sister.” Yu Sheng hurriedly stopped her. “There’s one more thing.”
Yu Kunian: “Speak.”
“Mother wants to transfer her shares of Zhaoming Biotech to you. She needs you to come back and sign for them.”
Yu Kunian didn’t even think about it. “I’m not coming back.” Pausing, she added, “I’ll find a proxy lawyer to sign on my behalf.”
But Yu Sheng said, “Mother has an additional condition—that you must return and sign in person.”
Yu Kunian was about to say something else when Song Wenzhi suddenly walked out of the bedroom. The Omega’s eyes were bleary. “Yu Kunian?”
Yu Kunian casually replied to Yu Sheng with “Then don’t give me the shares” before hanging up and turning toward Song Wenzhi. The Omega’s hair was a bit messy. Yu Kunian smiled and hugged her. “Why are you up? It’s still early.”
Song Wenzhi leaned her weight against Yu Kunian and closed her eyes again. “I saw you weren’t there, and I vaguely heard you talking… did something happen?”
Yu Kunian held her and slowly walked back to the bedroom, explaining as they went, “Nothing happened. Just a call from my sister, asking me to help her find someone.”
Lying back on the bed, Song Wenzhi asked again, “I heard what you said. Yu Kunian, is your sister asking you to go back to Lihua City?”
