- Chapter 10 - It Turns Red and Hurts with Just a Little Pressure
Inside the steam-filled bathroom, Su Xi’s exquisite face was pale, his lips pursed, and his eyelashes trembling. His snow-white clothes were soaked through by the water, clinging tightly to his body. He reached out blindly, trying to turn off the showerhead, but his hand was pinned down by Duan Cheng, who was watching him with cold indifference.
“Duan Cheng, what are you doing?” Su Xi’s questioning voice sounded faint beneath the rush of water, carrying a fragmented, sob-like quality.
Duan Cheng’s face remained expressionless. He reached out to unbutton the other’s clothes, saying succinctly, “The scents on your body are too mixed.”
“Then couldn’t you just say that? You’re being so rough, you’re hurting me…” Su Xi frowned and tried to push Duan Cheng away. His entire body felt soft and weak. Droplets of water slid down his fair cheeks, dripping onto the white floor tiles before vanishing down the drain.
He lowered his head and muttered softly, “You’ve been in such a foul mood since you arrived, and I haven’t even had a chance to explain yet.”
Duan Cheng fell silent for two seconds before turning off the shower. The pitter-patter of water ceased within the narrow stall. He reached out, tilted Su Xi’s chin up, and leaned down to kiss him. His soft lips were slightly cool, but a burning heat soon permeated the bathroom.
Su Xi could only whimper, forced to accept everything Duan Cheng gave him. A dexterous tongue hooked his own, roaming wantonly inside his mouth. The man’s kiss was fierce and heavy, laced with a sense of punishment. Oxygen in Su Xi’s lungs grew increasingly thin, and saliva he didn’t have time to swallow escaped from the corner of his mouth.
In the silent bathroom, only the sound of heavy breathing and ambiguous wet noises remained. When the kiss finally ended, a silver thread of saliva stretched between them, shimmering under the cool light.
Su Xi nearly slid down the wall, saved only by Duan Cheng’s arm hooking around his waist to pin him back against the tiles. His eyes were brimmed with moisture, and he still hadn’t caught his breath when he looked at the man. “A-Cheng, are you jealous?”
Because you like someone, you feel possessive; because you feel possessive, you get jealous.
In Su Xi’s understanding, “saving the villain” was equivalent to “wooing the villain.” As long as he stayed with the villain and had the man’s undivided attention, the villain naturally wouldn’t bother with the male lead, let alone fight him for the protagonist shou. Did this mean Duan Cheng had fallen for him?
“I just happened to run into Li Huai, that’s all. We’re just ordinary friends.” Su Xi reached out to wrap his arms around the man’s neck, proactively leaning in to give him a little kiss. They were pressed so close that the water on his body soaked the other man; both of them looked like they had just been fished out of a lake.
Duan Cheng stared into those innocent eyes and asked hoarsely, “What did he say to you?”
“Um… he said I’ve been marked, but I think he’s talking nonsense. I was only with you last night.” Su Xi spoke the truth, failing to notice the fleeting flash of panic in the depths of Duan Cheng’s eyes.
“Yes, he’s talking nonsense.” Duan Cheng brushed away the stray hairs covering Su Xi’s eyes and said softly, “I’m sorry. I was too angry today.”
“It’s okay. I would never be mad at you,” Su Xi said with a smile. He suddenly sneezed. The bathroom was tiled, and the temperature had dropped quite a bit, making it chilly.
In the end, Su Xi took a hot shower before leaving the bathroom. He sat on the sofa, sipping the perilla and ginger tea the man had just brewed, rubbing his reddened nose. He watched the misty bathroom with scattered thoughts as the sound of water started again, Duan Cheng was taking a shower.
He took a sip of the ginger tea and, finding it still a bit bitter, added some honey. “The salvation value has reached 60 now. It should continue like this without any accidents, right?”
System 1368 replied affirmatively: “Host, it’s only been a week. Completion of the mission is just around the corner. By the way, what were you two doing in the bathroom just now? Why was my vision pixelated?”
“Are you systems also this gossipy?” The tips of Su Xi’s ears turned crimson as he teased lightheartedly.
“Gossip is human nature; it’s in our database too. However, this plotline seems to be developing strangely. Host, we might need to pay attention.”
System 1368 added: “The higher-ups have determined that this world is on the verge of collapse. Specifically, Fu Heng’s persona has crumbled, and the emotional plotline between him and Li Huai has failed to develop.”
“What happens if the world collapses?” Su Xi asked, puzzled.
The System responded after a moment of reflection: “If the small world collapses and you’re lucky, you can be evacuated safely, though it counts as a mission failure. If you’re unlucky and can’t get out in time, you’ll be stuck here. But I think you’ll have finished your mission long before the world collapses.”
“Do I need to go play matchmaker then?”
“No, that’s not part of your mission.”
After chatting with the system for ten minutes, Duan Cheng emerged from the bathroom. Su Xi got up from the sofa and practically flew into the man’s arms, nuzzling against his neck like a small animal. He murmured hazily, “So sleepy. Let’s go to bed.”
After tossing and turning for so long, it was almost dawn. Under his soft-and-hard pestering, Duan Cheng finally agreed to sleep with him. Resting his head on a fragrant pillow, Su Xi drifted into a heavy sleep. Perhaps finding the position uncomfortable, he shifted restlessly, inadvertently disturbing Duan Cheng, who was already a light sleeper.
By the hazy moonlight filtering through the window, Duan Cheng saw the sleeping Su Xi. The boy looked very different when asleep compared to when he was awake; his sleeping posture wasn’t great, his fair face was flushed with a light pink, and his deep red lips were slightly parted, emitting a few sleep-talk murmurs.
The voice was very faint; Duan Cheng couldn’t make out what he was saying.
As the sun rose, the hazy mist among the clouds dissipated, and sunlight spilled through the gaps in the emerald leaves, creating a pattern of mottled marks on the ground.
On the playground, many early-rising students had finished their morning runs and were wiping sweat from their brows with towels. A breeze blew past, carrying a hint of dry heat. Su Xi sat on a stone bench under the shade of a tree, his head lowered, holding two bottles of water.
Inquisitive gazes frequently shot toward him, but he acted as if he saw nothing, scrolling through trending news on his communicator. His peripheral vision remained fixed on the gated entrance where people were coming and going.
In the morning, Duan Cheng had left breakfast on the table and departed. Su Xi had specifically braved the scorching sun to wait for him here. But it had been over half an hour why hadn’t he come out yet?
“Here, use a tissue to wipe your sweat.” Along with the voice, a small pack of portable tissues appeared before his eyes.
“Thank you.” Su Xi reached out and took the tissues.
Qiu Qi opened her mouth, about to say something more, but the person in front of her suddenly stood up after taking the tissues.
Su Xi’s eyes were fixed on Duan Cheng, who had just appeared not far away. He hurried over to the man and handed him the water. “Have some.”
He opened the pack, pulled out a tissue, and stood on his tiptoes to wipe the sweat for the man. He suggested seemingly casually, “A-Cheng, I’m so hungry. Can we go get breakfast?”
He had left in a hurry this morning and hadn’t touched the breakfast Duan Cheng left on the table. He really was hungry now.
“Mm,” Duan Cheng replied softly.
Ignoring several hostile glares, he naturally took Su Xi’s hand and led him outside.
It was still early, so the cafeteria wasn’t very crowded. Su Xi told Duan Cheng what he wanted to eat and then headed to the restroom. When he returned, he saw that the previously sparse crowd had suddenly become noisy and congested. He frowned and walked over.
However, the wall of people was too high for him to see through. He reached out and patted the shoulder of the person closest to him, asking softly, “What’s going on inside?”
The person, who was enjoying the drama and about to snap irritably, immediately changed their tune upon seeing it was Su Xi. Their voice carried a gentleness they hadn’t even noticed: “There’s a Beta causing trouble up front; he’s being taught a lesson.”
Betas the lowest existence in this school. Most were students admitted through special recruitment. They were neither like the Alphas who stood at the top from birth, nor like the Omegas cherished by protection laws. The few Betas in this school faced isolation and bullying until they eventually dropped out.
Su Xi felt a surge of panic. He anxiously stood on his tiptoes, trying to squeeze in, but the surrounding scents were too chaotic. He thought back to the scene of being pinned under the shower by Duan Cheng last night and felt a twinge of fear.
“Why are you standing here?” Duan Cheng’s voice suddenly rang out behind him.
Su Xi turned around and saw the man was unharmed. His hanging heart finally settled. He pursed his lips, his eyelashes trembling as he explained, “I just heard some noise here, so I came to look.”
His voice was very light, reaching Duan Cheng’s ears like a gentle breeze.
Duan Cheng was holding a food tray. He responded softly and found a secluded corner to sit down. The crowd in the noisy area had already dispersed. The security guards, arriving late, were scolding a thin boy, while they merely gave a few tall students nearby a sycophantic, fake stern warning before letting them go.
While eating a shrimp dumpling, Su Xi followed Duan Cheng’s gaze. Seeing a trace of emotion in the man’s eyes, he lowered his gaze to hide his own thoughts.
In this school, his word was always the most effective. If he helped these fellow Beta students, perhaps their situation wouldn’t be so difficult. Maybe he could even gain some favor from Duan Cheng in the process.
He was so lost in thought that he didn’t even notice when Duan Cheng’s gaze fell on him. Su Xi’s appetite was small; he was full after a few dumplings and some milk. The other items he had specifically asked for—the sesame balls, egg pancakes, and soy milk—remained untouched.
“Full?” Duan Cheng pulled out a tissue and handed it to him to wipe his glistening lips.
After Su Xi nodded, Duan Cheng silently finished the remaining food for him. The way the man ate was slow and methodical, looking exceptionally pleasing to the eye. Perhaps because Su Xi’s gaze was too direct, the man’s movements seemed to quicken slightly.
“Eat slowly, I’m in no hurry,” Su Xi frowned slightly and pushed the soy milk toward him.
Once Duan Cheng finished his meal, it was time for them to go their separate ways.
After all, his classes weren’t exactly the same as Duan Cheng’s. He reluctantly held Duan Cheng’s hand and gave it a shake. “A-Cheng, let me go with you, okay?”
Duan Cheng’s gaze fell on the hand tugging at him fair and beautiful. He lifted his eyes to look at the boy’s exquisite face, his tone softening a bit: “Be good. I’ll come find you after class.”
Su Xi pouted, not wanting to let go, but he didn’t want the man to think he was too clingy. In the end, he just gave him a hug before they parted.
Watching the man’s departing figure, the smile on Su Xi’s lips vanished as he turned away. The lingering affection in his eyes was gone. He pursed his lips, complaining with a hint of confusion, “I’ve been so good, why isn’t the salvation value increasing…”
“Don’t worry, Host, we still have time,” System 1368 consoled.
“Does he think I don’t like him enough?” Su Xi continued to himself. “True, I haven’t even confessed to him in public yet.”
He only had one painting class and two piano classes in the morning, with one-on-one tutors specially hired by the school. Su Xi sat on the piano bench, swinging his legs. Looking at the several constrained teachers before him, he boredly pressed a few keys. “I’ve learned it all. You guys can go back now.”
“But it’s only been ten minutes…” The new piano teacher had just started to speak when her companion covered her mouth.
“Then we’ll be going first. Young Master Su, feel free to enjoy your free time.” The woman saw the slight furrow in Su Xi’s brow and hurriedly dragged her companion away. What a joke they were specifically hired to teach Su Xi, and one forty-minute session cost six figures. The first thing the principal had told them was: Do not make Su Xi angry.
This young master was precious beyond measure; if he said “East,” you couldn’t go “West,” and if he said “One,” you’d better not count to “Two.”
