- Chapter 66 - Cultivator X Sea Demon
“These trash from the Xuantian Sect still dare to show their faces?” Ruan Ning rose from the bed, her gaze filled with anger and disdain. “Good. Saves me the trouble of hunting them down.”
With that, she grabbed her sword and strode out of the room, followed closely by Elder Yuntai and Ye Zhixia.
In the square before the grand hall, Baili Xin’er stood near the hall, facing several white-robed elders who floated gracefully, their bodies shimmering with a rainbow-colored aura.
Taoist Chenxu and Song Shiqi lurked at the most inconspicuous corner.
Song Shiqi shouted arrogantly, “Today, our three ancestral masters have descended to slay the demonic dragon! Hand her over now if you know what’s good for you!”
Taoist Chenxu also wore a smug expression. “With our three ancestral masters from the Xuantian Sect here, you’d better surrender if you value your lives!”
Baili Xin’er looked at the three lowly Earth Immortals before her, her usual calm and indifferent expression now tinged with irritation. She scoffed and retorted bluntly, “Just three Earth Immortals, and you’re bragging about them? How utterly provincial.”
“The Xuantian Sect sure has some tricks can’t win a fight, so they call for reinforcements from the immortal realm,” Ye Zhixia mocked as she emerged from a side passage into the front hall.
When Taoist Chenxu spotted Ruan Ning accompanying Ye Zhixia, he shuddered at first. But remembering the presence of his three immortal ancestors, his confidence quickly returned.
The Qixian Sect was the most powerful sect on the continent, with countless ascended masters who had achieved immortality.
However, there was a clear divide between immortals and mortals. To prevent immortals from using their powers to oppress mortals and cultivators, all who ascended had to sever their worldly ties.
After ascension, immortals were forbidden from casually descending to the mortal realm unless an event threatened the survival of the mortal world.
To summon an immortal from the same sect, one had to submit a formal request to the upper realm, which would then be reviewed before an immortal could be dispatched. This process could take anywhere from a few days to over a month.
The Xuantian Sect was absolutely certain that the Qixian Sect’s ascended immortals couldn’t possibly arrive so quickly to intervene. At this moment, they held an overwhelming advantage.
“Enough nonsense! Where is the demonic dragon?” the leading immortal barked arrogantly. “Hand her over now!”
Ruan Ning frowned slightly, her eyes filled with disgust. “Even after ascending, the people of the Xuantian Sect remain just as vulgar.”
Baili Xin’er turned to look at Ruan Ning and Ye Zhixia, momentarily stunned.
But she quickly regained her composure, she could sense the dragon aura emanating from Ye Zhixia. Clearly, the current Ye Zhixia was the Azure Dragon in human form.
“Earth Immortals barely qualify as immortals,” Baili Xin’er sneered.
Earth Immortals were the lowest rank of ascended cultivators. Originally, they were only permitted to reside in the mortal realm, but the upper realm, considering the vast gap between Earth Immortals and mortal cultivators, allowed them to continue their cultivation in the immortal realm.
Typically, Earth Immortals would diligently train in the immortal realm, striving to advance from Earth Immortal to Celestial Immortal, Golden Immortal, or even for the exceptionally gifted, Supreme Immortal.
In essence, as temporary residents of the immortal realm, Earth Immortals had one sole duty: to cultivate relentlessly and shed their lowly status.
Yet here were these three Earth Immortals from the Xuantian Sect, neglecting their training to descend and bully mortals alongside their disciples. As a primordial deity, Baili Xin’er held them in utter contempt.
Seeing Baili Xin’er show no reverence whatsoever, the leading Earth Immortal grew uneasy and quickly probed her aura with his spiritual senses.
A few moments later, the leading Earth Immortal sneered, “Just a mere plant from the immortal realm, what kind of power could it possibly have?”
The other two Earth Immortals followed their leader’s lead, probing Baili Xin’er’s aura before bursting into laughter as well.
Baili Xin’er had no interest in arguing with them. She simply stood on the steps, looking down at the Xuanyuan Sect members as if they were court jesters, her eyes filled with disdain and contempt.
The leading Earth Immortal’s face darkened as he roared, “Lingxiao Immortal, attack!”
The Lingxiao Immortal on the left obeyed, charging toward the Qiyuan Sect’s formation.
Ye Zhixia was the first to step forward, sword in hand. She hadn’t yet mastered the dragon clan’s spiritual power and still relied on her familiar swordsmanship to fight.
Though it was just pure swordplay, she managed to parry several of Lingxiao Immortal’s strikes.
Baili Xin’er’s eyes grew even more scornful. If even Ye Zhixia’s swordsmanship could hold its own, it was clear these Earth Immortals were nothing special.
After a dozen exchanges, Lingxiao Immortal’s pride couldn’t take it anymore. He channeled his immortal energy, shaping it into a gleaming sword, and engaged Ye Zhixia in a fierce duel.
The sword formed from immortal energy was sharp and resonant, yet it could dissipate the moment it clashed with Ye Zhixia’s steel blade, leaving her strikes with no solid target to land on.
As a result, Ye Zhixia, who relied solely on physical techniques, began to lose ground.
Just as the immortal energy gathered behind Ye Zhixia again, reforming into a lethal sword, Ruan Ning sent a gust of palm wind to deflect it, causing the energy blade to veer off course.
Then, Ruan Ning clasped her hands together, summoning her demonic aura to bind Lingxiao Immortal’s immortal energy into a tight knot. No matter how the energy struggled, it couldn’t break free.
“Earth Immortals are nothing impressive after all,” Ruan Ning taunted, maintaining her restraining gesture.
Hearing this, the other Earth Immortal beside the leader immediately glared at Ruan Ning with fury in his eyes.
“A mere sea demon, how dare you spout such arrogance! I, Xinyun Immortal, will teach you a lesson today!”
Xinyun Immortal moved with blinding speed, appearing beside Ruan Ning in the blink of an eye, his hand raised to slap her across the face.
Slap!
Slap! Slap!
Three sharp cracks echoed throughout the Qiyuan Sect.
Everyone present whether from the Xuanyuan Sect or the Qiyuan Sect was stunned.
They all saw Yun Tai Zhenren gripping Xinyun Immortal’s raised wrist with one hand while slapping his face repeatedly with the other.
“A dignified Earth Immortal, taking advantage of others today, I’ll teach you a lesson!” Her voice was icy.
Ruan Ning had to maintain her stance to suppress Lingxiao Immortal’s energy sword, leaving her unable to move.
Xinyun Immortal had been confident in attacking precisely because he knew Ruan Ning couldn’t retaliate.
Yun Tai Zhenren yanked Xinyun Immortal’s arm and flung him toward the Xuanyuan Sect’s side, where he crashed right into Song Shiqi.
Xinyun Immortal barely managed to steady himself, but Song Shiqi was sent sprawling to the ground with a heavy thud.
Ruan Ning intensified her pressure, compressing the energy sword into a small ball before hurling it back toward the Xuanyuan Sect.
The condensed energy struck Song Shiqi squarely, eliciting a pained grunt from him.
“Xianjue Immortal! They’re breaking the rules, we don’t need to hold back either!” Song Shiqi gritted his teeth as he got up, proposing, “My master and I will handle those two girls. Lingxiao Immortal and Xinyun Immortal can deal with that Yun Tai Zhenren!”
Xianjue Immortal waved his hand. “Do as Shiqi suggests!”
Song Shiqi and Chenxu Daoren erupted with dark demonic energy, clashing fiercely with Ye Zhixia and Ruan Ning.
Song Shiqi twisted his body, swinging his sword horizontally toward Ye Zhixia’s waist. Though the blade didn’t make contact, the dark demonic energy seeped through the fabric, leaving a shallow wound on Ye Zhixia’s skin.
The cloth remained intact, but dark red blood soaked through Ye Zhixia’s robes.
Yet, the spiritual energy of the dragon race surged forth instantly, clashing against the demonic force and rapidly healing the wound.
Now fully engaged in battle, Ye Zhixia felt the spiritual energy within him flow more smoothly. Gradually, it emerged from his fingertips, coiling around his treasured sword.
Having previously witnessed Ruan Ning’s strength, Taoist Chenxu fought cautiously, his moves steady and precise. Though he couldn’t harm Ruan Ning, he managed to restrict her movements while ensuring his own safety.
After exchanging over a dozen blows with him to no avail, Ruan Ning couldn’t help but grow impatient.
Ye Zhixia swung his sword, its edge now infused with the spiritual power of the dragon race. Unable to withstand it, Song Shiqi was struck down.
Seizing the moment while his opponent was incapacitated, Ye Zhixia quickly moved to stand beside Ruan Ning. A faint blue glow emanated from both of them, a unique radiance of sea-dwelling beings.
Meanwhile, Immortal Lingxiao and Immortal Xinyun launched a simultaneous attack against Yun Tai Zhenren.
A mocking smile played on Yun Tai Zhenren’s lips.
Two Earth Immortals ganging up on a mortal sect leader who hadn’t ascended wasn’t that just shameful?
But no matter. What would be even more shameful was if the two Earth Immortals still lost.
The immortal energy of Lingxiao and Xinyun was domineering, befitting their ascended status. The force of their attacks sent tremors through the surrounding rock formations.
Some low-ranking disciples from the Xuantian Sect and Qiyuan Sect couldn’t withstand the pressure, coughing up blood on the spot.
“Everyone, retreat to the rear courtyard!” Baili Xin’er commanded on Yun Tai Zhenren’s behalf.
The Qiyuan Sect disciples immediately obeyed, helping their injured comrades withdraw.
The low-ranking disciples of the Xuantian Sect exchanged uneasy glances, wanting to retreat as well, but Immortal Xianjue barked sharply, “Who dares to flee?”
Caught between advancing and retreating, the Xuantian Sect disciples were thrown into chaos.
Immortal Lingxiao and Immortal Xinyun struck at Yun Tai Zhenren with four palms at once.
“How despicable…” Baili Xin’er murmured.
The two Earth Immortals were clearly exploiting the fact that Yun Tai Zhenren couldn’t fend off four hands at once.
Yet, Yun Tai Zhenren merely smiled, clenched his fists, and struck back with lightning speed four punches sent both immortals flying five meters away.
The two Earth Immortals crashed to the ground, unable to steady themselves, each spitting out a mouthful of blood.
Immortal Lingxiao clutched his chest. “How… how is your internal energy so strong?”
Yun Tai Zhenren strode forward, looking down at the so-called Earth Immortals. “I think you know better than I do anyone who successfully undergoes the Heavenly Tribulation can become an Earth Immortal. But what if I could succeed… and simply chose not to?”
“You can deceive the Heavenly Tribulation?!” Immortal Lingxiao gasped in shock.
“Mhm.” Yun Tai Zhenren’s expression was full of amusement.
Meanwhile, Ye Zhixia and Ruan Ning were locked in fierce combat against Song Shiqi and Taoist Chenxu.
Ye Zhixia grew increasingly in tune with his spiritual power, his sword strikes faster and sharper with each move. Though Song Shiqi had cultivated with demonic energy for years, he was still no match for the centuries-old Dragon Princess.
Fighting side by side, Ye Zhixia and Ruan Ning moved with seamless coordination. First, they knocked off Song Shiqi’s hair crown, then slashed several gashes into Taoist Chenxu’s robes.
Whether it was Ruan Ning’s demonic power or Ye Zhixia’s draconic spiritual energy, both possessed formidable lethality. Pale streaks of blood seeped through Song Shiqi’s light blue Taoist robes and Chenxu Taoist’s pristine white outer garment.
With sharp eyes, Song Shiqi noticed something amiss with the spiritual aura around Ye Zhixia and immediately shouted, “That woman is the demon dragon! Her spiritual energy is identical to the demon dragon’s!”
Ye Zhixia impatiently thrust her sword toward Song Shiqi’s shoulder. “How dare you, villain, call anyone a demon! The dragon lineage are water deities!”
Unable to dodge in time, Song Shiqi had no choice but to endure the strike.
As Ye Zhixia withdrew her blade, fresh blood streamed steadily from Song Shiqi’s shoulder.
“Immortal Venerable! She is the demon dragon! Seize her quickly! Our blood sacrifice formation.” Song Shiqi cried out to Xianjue the Immortal, who had remained motionless all this while.
Xianjue the Immortal turned his gaze toward Ye Zhixia, his eyes gleaming with avarice.
