- Chapter 58 - How to Deal with My Crying Fiancée
Wen Xiu stood at the open kitchen counter, opened the refrigerator, and took two pears from the crisper. He skillfully peeled and chopped them into small pieces. The cores of the pears were slightly sour and astringent, not very pleasant in taste, so Wen Xiu kept only the surrounding flesh, tossing the two pear cores into the trash.
He took out a small pot, added a little cold water, and waited for it to boil. As the water bubbled and steamed, he added the chopped pear pieces, washed red dates, and his treasured goji berries one by one.
No sugar was needed his sister didn’t like overly sweet drinks and couldn’t have them anyway.
He let it simmer over low heat, the water slowly evaporating until the pear flesh turned translucent and soft. The fruity aroma completely infused the steam, so rich that one didn’t even need to lean in to smell it. And just like that, a fine pot of pear, red date, and goji berry tea was ready!
Though the name was a bit of a mouthful.
Wen Xiu stuck out his tongue playfully, carefully lifted the small pot, and poured its contents into a large beer mug, the kind used in restaurants for draft beer. The pear pieces, red dates, and goji berries settled at the bottom, while the reddish juice rose to the top. Wen Xiu even specially fetched a wide straw, the kind thick enough to suck up the fruit pieces.
Then he stepped out from behind the counter, slowly made his way to the living room, and brought it over to his sister.
His sister had been in a low mood for some reason since earlier, sitting with her arms crossed as she gazed out the window, lost in thought. Concerned, Wen Xiu could only try to cheer her up this way.
“Sis~ have some juice~”
Wen Yan snapped out of her reverie and turned to see the large, steaming mug of juice. The gloom in her heart instantly lifted, and she couldn’t help but laugh at her silly brother’s gesture.
“Are you trying to stuff me to death?”
With such a huge mug, she wouldn’t feel hungry until tomorrow.
Seeing that she’d accepted it, Wen Xiu scratched his head, a little embarrassed. “I accidentally made too much.”
Wen Yan smiled gently. The pear tea was still hot, so she cradled it in her hands like a hand warmer. The sweet, fruity fragrance wafted up, soothing and uplifting.
The shadow in her peach-blossom eyes gradually faded, like clouds parting to reveal the sun.
Ding-dong, ding-dong.
The doorbell rang, and those moist, expressive eyes instantly brightened. Wen Yan set down the mug, her steps hurried and flustered. Without even checking the peephole, she flung the door open.
It was indeed her alpha.
Breathing heavily and out of breath, her hair slightly disheveled for some reason.
Wen Yan reached out to smooth her long hair, but Gu Lin grabbed her hand and pulled her straight into an embrace.
Surrounded by her alpha’s scent, Wen Yan was pressed against Gu Lin’s chest, the strong, steady heartbeat clearly audible in her ears.
Thump after thump, rapid and intense, it vividly conveyed Gu Lin’s anxiety and care.
The embrace was tight and fervent, Wen Yan’s shoulders and waist firmly encircled in Gu Lin’s arms. As a delicate and powerless omega, she had no chance of breaking free.
Not that she wanted to, of course. Wen Yan simply nestled deeper into Gu Lin’s coat, savoring the sense of security her alpha provided.
So when Wen Xiu emerged from the kitchen, this was the scene that greeted him.
Ah!
What’s a brother supposed to do at a time like this?
Wen Xiu felt a bit awkward, but not as flustered or embarrassed as before, after seeing it so often, he’d gotten used to it.
Should he quietly turn around and give them some private space, or should he first greet Sister Lin who had come to visit?
This was so difficult.
Wen Xiu hesitated internally for a moment before ultimately deciding to leave them alone. Just as he was about to step away, Gu Lin looked up and greeted him.
“Ah Xiu, long time no see.”
It had indeed been over ten days since they last met.
“Hello, Sister Lin~”
At that moment, Wen Yan looked up, staring directly at Gu Lin, and spoke with a hint of jealousy.
“Your first words weren’t even for me.”
Wen Xiu: I shouldn’t be here. I should be under the car.
Sorry for disturbing.
Wen Xiu quickly retreated from the silent battlefield.
“Hmm?”
“Have you stopped loving me after not seeing me for over ten days?”
A fair, slender index finger poked Gu Lin’s chest, then began tracing restless circles. Wen Yan adopted the demeanor of a neglected wife, her questioning leaving Gu Lin flustered and overwhelmed.
Playing the victim first was never a bad strategy.
The tall, long-legged alpha picked up her unreasonable girlfriend no matter what, soothing her came first. Gu Lin sat on the sofa, and Wen Yan immediately straddled her lap, hooking her arms around Gu Lin’s neck before leaning in for a kiss.
Their lips and tongues intertwined, inseparable.
In moments like these, Wen Yan preferred to take the lead, controlling the pace and teasing the alpha. She loved watching her blush, gasp for breath, even tear up.
Only then would Wen Yan feel satisfied.
So, after ending the kiss, Wen Yan leaned close to that delicate, pale ear and breathed seductively.
“I want to go back to the bedroom.”
How could Gu Lin refuse, especially when Wen Yan was the one initiating? But Ah Xiu was still here, wasn’t this a bit inappropriate?
Especially since Wen Xiu was so innocent and pure, it felt almost criminal, like corrupting a child.
“Ah Xiu will notice.”
Though Gu Lin said this, her body was honest as she carried her omega toward the bedroom.
Hearing this, Wen Yan raised an eyebrow. As they passed Wen Xiu’s room, she patted Gu Lin, signaling her to stop, then knocked on the door.
The door opened, and Wen Xiu peeked out, only to be rendered speechless at the sight of his sister clinging to Sister Lin like a koala without a care.
What are you two doing?
Wen Yan offered a straightforward explanation.
“Your sister and I are going to watch a movie in the room. Don’t disturb us for the next three hours, okay?”
Her words made the other two blush.
Watch a movie?
Watch a movie.
Watch a movie!
Wen Xiu: Aaaaaaah! Don’t tell me these things! I’m still an innocent child, I really don’t want to know, okay?! Wuwuwu, I’m not pure anymore!!!
Gu Lin: Th-three hours that long.
Seeing his younger brother bow his head, shy as a blushing bride, Wen Yan nodded in satisfaction before being carried back to her room by Gu Lin.
Clothes were scattered from the doorway all the way to the bed. Wen Yan looked down at Gu Lin beneath her, smiling as she gently pinched her cheeks.
“Be good.”
“Surrender.”
“No resisting or struggling allowed.”
When Alpha couldn’t hold back, she would bite her lips, her face flushing crimson as she stifled tears without a sound, making others want to tease and torment her even more. When she let loose, she was so breathtakingly beautiful that one couldn’t look away even the sweat at her temples seemed irresistibly sensual, tempting one to lick it away, never wanting to let her go for even a moment.
The minute hand of the clock circled round and round, and time seemed to slip by unusually fast. This kind of intimacy always made one wish to slow it down, to stretch it out infinitely at its conclusion, leaving an endless aftertaste.
Wen Yan lay sprawled on the bed, her head buried in the pillow, too exhausted to even lift a finger.
“Shall I carry you to wash up?” Gu Lin propped herself up, careful not to press down on her, and asked gently by her ear.
The Omega didn’t respond, as if already worn out and lost in dreams.
If not for the growing wet stain on the pillow, Gu Lin would never have guessed that Wen Yan was crying.
That woman, so strong it seemed no one could defeat her, the one whose beauty had captivated Gu Lin at first sight was actually crying.
She cried silently, with no other signs except the tears. There were no movements, only the ever-spreading traces of her weeping.
Both the way she cried and the spreading tears made Gu Lin’s heart ache sharply.
“Wen Yan, Wen Yan, did I hurt you?”
“Don’t cry, I’m sorry, please don’t cry.”
Her heart ached so much, so very much.
Who would want to see their beloved shed tears? Even if they were tears of joy, Gu Lin didn’t want to see them.
She only wished for Wen Yan to live proudly and freely, with a gaze that held disdain for worldly rules and a faint, mocking smile at the corner of her lips.
“Wen Yan!”
Gu Lin’s voice trembled, consumed by guilt and panic, her rationality nearly gone. As an Alpha, she felt so remorseful she wanted to strike herself hard. In moments like these, Gu Lin always believed she must have done something wrong.
Otherwise, why would Wen Yan cry?
Fortunately, at that moment, Wen Yan grasped her hand.
No.
It’s not because of you.
Such body language, such silent words Gu Lin understood instantly.
Wen Yan didn’t want to cry; she was never a fragile person. No matter how difficult life had been in the past, she had endured it all. Being insulted to her face, slapped publicly by a director, nearly drugged and manipulated after all those hardships and setbacks, Wen Yan had never shed a tear.
She always believed that if life wanted her to cry, she should face it with a smile.
She was just that kind of stubborn woman.
Only when she had too much to drink, when the alcohol numbed her nerves, would the grievances and resentments she usually kept locked away surge forth as her defenses weakened. The negative emotions became uncontrollable, enveloping her entirely. Powerless to resist, she could only sink into them, unable to hold back her sobs.
But Wen Yan couldn’t explain it, just moments ago, everything had felt so comforting, yet suddenly, she wanted to cry, to release all her pent-up emotions in the Alpha’s embrace.
She even wanted to cry out and beg Gu Lin to mark her, to make her completely belong to Gu Lin. In her rational state, Wen Yan would have considered this utterly impossible. But her omega body made it impossible to conceal her emotions; the slightest stimulation, especially physical contact with the alpha she loved, would lay her bare.
So Wen Yan could only lie there, burying her tears into the pillow, hiding them from everyone but herself.
In the end, she let the tears dry in the air, erasing all evidence.
Unfortunately, Gu Lin still noticed.
How could she not? Her heart and eyes were entirely focused on this person how could she possibly miss it?
It was as if a sudden clarity struck Gu Lin, and she understood why Wen Yan was acting this way fear. Though the terrifying package hadn’t been delivered directly into Wen Yan’s hands, the malice behind it had reached her completely. Such a person wouldn’t be the first, nor would they be the last. Wen Yan was afraid, yet she didn’t want to speak of it, so in moments of intense emotion, her tears fell uncontrollably.
Gu Lin’s heart ached unbearably. She wrapped her arms around Wen Yan from behind, holding her completely.
“Don’t be afraid.”
“Wen Yan, don’t be afraid.”
“Nothing like this will happen again. I promise you, absolutely nothing like this will happen again.”
Gu Lin swore silently in her heart whether it was Liu Mingyan or anyone else, she would never allow Wen Yan to be harmed in the slightest.
“So please, don’t cry anymore, alright?”
Wen Yan.
Even if you must cry, don’t do it alone like this, alright?
