- Chapter 59 - My Fiancée Wants to Live Together
Exhausted and having cried her heart out, Wen Yan quickly fell asleep.
She expected to have nightmares again, but in her dream, she found herself surrounded by mountains and serene bamboo groves. A simple, clean little wooden cabin stood at the foot of the mountains, accompanied by a spacious courtyard.
Inside the courtyard was a peach tree. It must have been spring, with mountain flowers in full bloom and the peach blossoms vibrant and dazzling, their intoxicating fragrance almost palpable.
A spring breeze swept through, gently scattering pink petals that drifted down to cover the ground.
Beneath the tree stood a figure, dressed in white with a slender waist, hair tied high, and wearing a bamboo hat. A pure white veil obscured the person’s face, leaving it hazy and indistinct.
Yet, standing there, her silhouette was as resilient as bamboo.
Then again, faces in dreams are always blurry, and Wen Yan didn’t dwell on trying to see the person clearly.
But she knew who this woman was.
She was hers.
She was her.
Gu Lin.
Wen Yan opened her eyes. The clock on the wall showed it was already 6 p.m. She sat up, but there was no sign of Gu Lin in the room.
The clothes on the floor were gone too.
A faint smile crept onto her lips. Wen Yan fetched clean underwear and pajamas from the wardrobe, put them on, and walked straight out of the room.
Gu Lin was preparing dinner and looked up the moment Wen Yan opened the door, meeting her lover’s gaze. Setting down the knife, Gu Lin wiped her hands and went over to embrace Wen Yan.
“Are you okay?”
Wen Yan raised an eyebrow. “I’m perfectly fine.”
Refreshed and at ease, it felt as if her meridians had been unblocked.
Truly, negative emotions are like garbage they need to be dumped, and once they are, everything feels lighter.
“Then you…”
From Gu Lin’s hesitant expression, Wen Yan could guess what she wanted to ask, but she didn’t want to bring it up again it was too damaging to her image as a poised, mature woman.
“Don’t ask. If you must know, it was a mix of pleasure and tears.”
Gu Lin immediately fell silent, released the embrace, and retreated to the kitchen to continue cooking.
A beauty is a delight to behold in any situation, but when she cooks for you, it becomes even more captivating. Wen Yan wasn’t in a hurry to shower anymore. She sat at the counter, propping her chin in her hands, and asked with interest,
“What’s for dinner?”
The superstar had even abandoned her rule of not eating after noon. After all, how could she refuse a meal made by her girlfriend?
“Hot pot.”
“Ah Xiu went to buy the ingredients.”
“I’ll prepare the broth.”
Gu Lin sliced the beef into thin strips. Her knife skills were impressive, her fingers slender and fair as jade, looking even more appetizing than the beef itself.
?
This wouldn’t do her mind was filled with nothing but indecent thoughts.
Wen Yan decided to take a shower immediately to clear her head.
Considering Wen Yan’s usual eating habits, Wen Xiu bought mostly bean products and vegetables. He had asked Sister Lin if there was anything she wanted, but Gu Lin insisted he not worry about her and just get what Wen Yan liked.
As for the hot pot broth, it was a bone broth made from beef marrow bones. Somehow, Sister Lin had managed to make it milky white and exceptionally flavorful so delicious it almost seemed a waste to use it as a hot pot base.
Wen Xiu stared eagerly at the pot, practically drooling like a little greedy cat. Gu Lin chuckled, scooped half a bowl for him, and added a piece of beef neck.
“Taste it for me, see how it is.”
Wen Xiu initially wanted to refuse, how could he eat first? But since Sister Lin insisted, he had no choice. He was just tasting the seasoning for her, after all.
He first took a sip of the soup. Mmm, so flavorful, with the rich aroma of beef that instantly whetted the appetite. Then he tried a piece of meat, it was tender and perfectly cooked, incredibly delicious!
The little foodie quickly finished the entire bowl of beef soup and even licked his lips, savoring the last traces.
“Want more?”
Gu Lin smiled, completely unbothered by Wen Xiu sneaking a taste.
For someone who cooked, seeing others enjoy the food was its own reward.
Wen Xiu’s eyes gleamed with longing, but he shook his head. A taste was enough dinner would be served soon anyway.
Gu Lin didn’t press further and went back to washing the ingredients while Wen Xiu helped set the table.
Soon, the dining table was filled with beautifully arranged dishes. At the center was a bubbling hot pot, steam rising invitingly.
With her lover and younger brother waiting at the table, this was the warm, family atmosphere Wen Yan had always dreamed of.
No longer was she alone, no longer just by herself.
Overjoyed and in high spirits, Wen Yan even ate a full bowl of rice, a rare occurrence leaving her usually flat stomach slightly rounded.
Everything tasted wonderful in the moment, but regret quickly set in afterward.
Wen Yan wished she could do several rounds of Pilates to burn off the extra calories, but before she could even fetch her yoga mat, her clingy alpha pulled her into an embrace, refusing to let her move or go anywhere.
Being petted like a little cat, Wen Yan wait, no, she frowned and “swatted” (well, pinched) Gu Lin’s cheek.
“Spit it out.”
That troubled expression of yours isn’t cute at all.
Gu Lin had wanted to bring this up earlier, but one thing after another kept delaying it. Now, with the night deepening, she knew if she didn’t speak up, another day would slip by.
“I want to live with you.”
Wen Yan hadn’t expected this. Her willow-leaf eyebrows furrowed habitually not out of rejection, but because she was pondering the motive behind Gu Lin’s request.
Gu Lin was never one to make casual demands.
Soon, Wen Yan pieced it together Gu Lin was worried about her.
Because of recent events, Gu Lin didn’t feel at ease leaving Wen Yan and her brother, two seemingly vulnerable omegas, living here alone. And if their address had truly been exposed to anti-fans, it really wasn’t safe to stay.
“If you’re just worried about me and A-Xiu, we can simply move to a different apartment. I could even buy a unit on the floor above or below.”
“After all, the most dangerous place is sometimes the safest.”
“But the security in this complex isn’t the best. I don’t think it’s safe for you to stay here.”
Gu Lin was uncharacteristically stubborn, her gaze so firm that Wen Yan had to look away.
“Then where do you think is safe? My brother and I can move there.”
The implication was clear: living together wasn’t necessary.
Gu Lin: Feeling rejected and utterly dejected.
“Don’t you want to live with me?”
The alpha had no qualms about acting coy with her omega, her eyes soft and pleading, tinged with a hint of accusation.
Wen Yan felt a bit overwhelmed and quickly broke free from Gu Lin’s embrace, propping herself up as she said,
“I earn money, my brother cooks so, what are you here for?”
There’s no place for you.
“I can both earn money and cook.”
Gu Lin spoke with confidence, straightening his posture, brimming with pride.
“I earn more than you, and I cook better than A Xiu.”
Wen Yan: “Though it stings a little, it’s true.”
“In winter, I’ll warm your bed; in summer, I’ll make you iced drinks. In spring and autumn, I’ll take the best photos of you with my DSLR.”
“During holidays, the three of us can go on road trips. All you have to do is sit in the passenger seat, listen to music, enjoy the scenery, and discuss with A Xiu what to eat next.”
“During the day, I can go shopping with you; at night, if you can’t sleep, I’ll hold you and watch the stars.”
“I’ll show you my scripts as soon as I write them, and when you rehearse, I’ll always be your first audience.”
“Isn’t that nice?”
Gu Lin rubbed his nose against Wen Yan’s cheek, his tone intimate and coaxing. “How about moving in with me?”
Wen Yan: “Deal.”
???
Why did something so romantic suddenly feel like a foolproof business deal the moment Wen Yan uttered those two words?
Couldn’t she just reply with a simple “okay”?
Gu Lin: Your casualness has ruined so much of my tenderness.
“Are we moving into your apartment?” Wen Yan asked again.
Gu Lin nodded. “It’s very private, with strict security. Living there, nothing like today will ever happen again.”
“Okay.” Wen Yan smiled, her smile beautiful but her words infuriating.
“I’ll pay you rent.”
Gu Lin: …
Do you really have to draw such a clear line?
“What’s that expression? Aren’t you happy to get money?”
Wen Yan poked Gu Lin’s soft, tender cheek it felt smooth, like a freshly boiled and peeled egg.
“Otherwise, if I freeload off you and others find out, they’ll definitely say you’re keeping me.”
“New director Gu Lin suspected of keeping actress Wen Yan; the two are seen together frequently, sweet and affectionate.”
“Do you want the gossip media to write that?”
Gu Lin: “Honestly?”
Wen Yan’s smile faded. “Yeah.”
“I do.”
Wen Yan opened her mouth and bit him.
“Dream on.”
