- Chapter 57 - How to Deal with the Shock of the Fiancée
When Gu Lin arrived at the entrance of Wen Yan’s residential complex, a police car was already parked there.
She pulled over by the roadside, got out, and walked over. Sure enough, she spotted her second sister’s wife, Officer Bi Yu, inside the security booth.
The uniformed security guard noticed Gu Lin’s sudden intrusion. Despite her delicate features and elegant attire, which clearly marked her as a refined beauty, the guard frowned out of a sense of duty and stopped her, saying sternly, “The police are handling a case here. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter.”
Bi Yu turned and saw Gu Lin. She waved her hand and said, “It’s fine, let her in.”
Was she involved in the incident?
The guard hesitated for a moment before obediently stepping aside to let the beauty in.
The bloodstains on the floor had not yet been cleaned up, congealed into a grotesque, blooming pattern on the white ceramic tiles, a sight that was deeply unsettling.
Even with the ventilation system running, the air was thick with the nauseating stench of blood and the foul odor of decay.
Gu Lin, a pampered young lady from a wealthy family, had never encountered such a scene before. She covered her nose and mouth, feeling unwell. Bi Yu, however, was accustomed to it. After years on the job, she had witnessed far more gruesome and disgusting scenes.
She removed her pristine white gloves and thoughtfully handed a mask to Gu Lin before putting the gloves back on and retrieving the contents of the package, a corpse.
The moment she saw it, Gu Lin’s pupils involuntarily contracted. The horrifying and repulsive sight churned her stomach, and she nearly vomited on the spot.
“It’s a dead cat,” Bi Yu said to her partner beside her. “No pet tag. Looks like a Ragdoll breed.”
Her partner was a young woman wearing glasses, who appeared quite inexperienced. Her note-taking movements were somewhat flustered.
Gu Lin couldn’t take it anymore. If she stayed in that room any longer, her delicate constitution would surely betray her. She stepped outside, removed her mask, and took a few deep breaths of fresh air before mustering the courage to go back in.
As she did, she sent a message to Wen Yan, letting her know she had arrived.
Wen Yan called her immediately.
“Hello?”
Wen Yan had changed into outdoor clothes and was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window in her living room, arms crossed as she gazed toward the distant security booth. From her vantage point, she could see Gu Lin’s slender, fragile figure outside the booth.
Yet, it was this very person who had rushed over without hesitation after receiving her message.
“How is it?”
Gu Lin’s voice softened. “It’s nothing, just a dead cat.”
“Are you okay?”
Wen Yan wasn’t sure if she could describe herself as “okay.” She hadn’t been scared her keen intuition had alerted her to the package’s suspicious nature, so she hadn’t opened it. The gruesome and disgusting sight had never reached her eyes.
Still, a heavy weight pressed down on her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Regardless, the sender of the package had achieved their goal.
Wen Yan felt disgusted, nauseated to the point of wanting to vomit.
“Not great, but I can bear it,” Wen Yan replied honestly, briefly describing her condition to her girlfriend.
To put it simply, it felt like a fly that had just feasted on feces had landed on her chopsticks. She wasn’t eating, but she was so revolted that she threw the chopsticks away anyway.
“She can still make such an analogy, it seems her mood isn’t too bad yet.”
Gu Lin breathed a sigh of relief, then turned to glance through the window toward the security office. Bi Yu happened to be waving at her, signaling her to come inside.
“I’ll come find you later.”
Her girlfriend’s gentle, soothing voice came through the phone, like a spring breeze calming Wen Yan’s turbulent emotions.
“Okay.”
After the call ended, Gu Lin pulled her mask back up, took a deep breath, and stepped back into the security office.
As soon as she entered, Bi Yu got straight to the point.
“The shipping label was soaked in blood. We’ll need to take it back and process it to see the sender’s information.”
“However, it’s likely fake. Courier companies scan packages before shipping, and they wouldn’t deliver something so obviously malicious.”
“Still, just in case, I’ll follow up on the sender’s details.”
“But right now, it’s unclear whether this came from an anti-fan or…”
Bi Yu trailed off, mindful of the outsider present, but Gu Lin understood what she meant.
Or from that overseas mastermind.
Liu Mingyan.
Gu Lin clenched her fist, suppressing the urge to message Liu Mingyan directly and demand answers. Instead, she asked, “Any other updates?”
The new bespectacled officer was retrieving surveillance footage, while Bi Yu flipped open her notebook to the latest page, which contained the statement from the person who had reported the incident, the middle-aged man who had unfortunately opened the package for Wen Yan.
“Officer Liu questioned the security guard. He said a young man in bright yellow courier uniform handed him the package and clearly stated it was for Wen Yan.”
“As for his appearance, the man was wearing a baseball cap, so the guard couldn’t see his face clearly.”
“Then I suppose the surveillance footage will also show a blurry face.”
Bright yellow courier uniform?
Gu Lin frowned. To her knowledge, no courier company used bright yellow uniforms. The company with bright yellow uniforms was an online food delivery service.
Just then, Officer Liu retrieved the surveillance footage from that time. The three of them gathered around the computer and watched the scene from two different angles.
A man on a motorcycle stopped in front of the security office, knocked on the window, and handed the package to the guard inside.
The footage paused for a second or two likely the moment the man was specifying the recipient.
Then he adjusted his cap and rode off on his motorcycle.
Just as Bi Yu had anticipated, his facial features were completely obscured. This was no ordinary courier; he knew exactly how to avoid the cameras. It was a premeditated act of harassment.
“Officer Liu, zoom in and enhance the footage, focusing on his motorcycle.”
Aside from bicycles, any road-legal vehicle had to be registered with the DMV and issued a license plate. This could serve as a clue to track down the perpetrator.
Officer Liu complied, and the previously blurry license plate soon revealed its true form.
Bi Yu jotted down the number and said to Officer Liu, “Save a recording of this footage. We can head back now.”
“Sure thing, Senior.”
The distinctive form of address made Gu Lin glance over. The dashing omega officer coughed lightly, unusually flustered.
“She’s a junior from the same university.”
After explaining, Bi Yu added, “Don’t mention it to your sister Shuang.”
For Bi Yu, such a remark was almost a plea.
Gu Lin pressed her lips together, smiling.
The Gu family members all possess a strong sense of possessiveness unrelated to their status as omegas or alphas simply driven by an innate desire to monopolize every part of their beloved, unwilling to allow any other special person in their lives.
Sister Shuang may appear cold and aloof on the surface, but in reality, she loves Bi Yu to the point of obsession, nearly breaking ties with her father, Gu Lang, over it. No matter how open-minded parents might be, society has the lowest tolerance for relationships between two omegas.
Almost no one would offer their blessings, because the union of an alpha and an omega is considered “correct” and “natural.”
When two individuals capable of reproduction come together yet cannot bear children, some so-called experts view it as the ultimate waste of resources.
If such news were to get out, it would damage the Gu family’s reputation and stock value.
But once Gu Shuang has made up her mind, no one can change it. She has even prepared to leave the Gu family behind, giving up her status as the dazzling second daughter of the Gu clan, just to be Bi Yu’s lover.
If Sister Shuang were to find out that Bi Yu’s new partner is her former junior from school, her jealousy would undoubtedly explode.
She wouldn’t rest until she had thoroughly exhausted Bi Yu, keeping her in bed all day.
“Alright, I understand. I won’t tell Sister Shuang.”
Bi Yu breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving Xiao Wu’s assurance. Xiao Wu was a person of her word, and Bi Yu trusted her unconditionally.
“I’ll handle this case properly. You and Wen.”
Ahem.
Gu Lin brought a fist to her lips and coughed lightly, interrupting Bi Yu.
After all, Wen Yan was now a public figure, and with such an incident occurring, any leak could lead to endless trending searches and public discussion.
Worst of all, her address might be exposed.
For an artist, that would be the most fatal blow.
Bi Yu quickly caught on and corrected herself, “You and she don’t need to worry. Wen ahem, she is very cautious and handled this situation well.”
“But it would be best to consider moving to a new address.”
“Because whether it’s anti-fans or others, sending such a package is a form of testing to confirm whether this address is truly her home.”
“Once we intervene, it essentially confirms the address is real.”
“If it turns out to be anti-fans spreading it widely online, you know the consequences could be severe.”
Stalkers are truly the most terrifying presence in fandom. Once someone like that sets their sights on you.
Wen Yan would never have peace again.
Gu Lin had already considered everything Bi Yu mentioned. Almost the moment Wen Yan sent her the message, Gu Lin had Qin Xia contact a moving company.
As long as Wen Yan had no objections, Gu Lin could have her moved into her apartment today.
“I know. Thank you, Sister Bi Yu.”
Gu Lin saw Bi Yu and Xiao Liu off to the police car. As the window rolled down, Bi Yu smiled at her.
“Alright, no need to see us off.”
“Hurry back upstairs and check on her.”
Wen Yan must be waiting for you.
“Mm, once there are results, please notify me promptly, Sister Bi Yu.”
If it really was Liu Mingyan behind this, she would no longer hold back as she had been.
She would never allow her girlfriend to suffer such baseless grievances and hatred any longer.
Her hands in her coat pockets slowly clenched into fists. Gu Lin waved at the departing police car, then turned and quickened her pace.
Her girlfriend was still waiting for her.
Gu Lin began to run, the bitingly cold north wind entering her mouth with each breath like sharp knives, cutting into her painfully.
Her originally smooth and obedient long hair became disheveled in the wind, occasionally sticking to her face.
But none of that mattered. Gu Lin had already delayed for too long; she needed to hurry.
To give her Wen Yan a comforting embrace.
