- Chapter 33 - How to Deal with an Angry Fiancée?
Gu Lin had been unusually gloomy lately.
Though she never had a particularly sunny disposition to begin with, the faint dark cloud hovering above her head cast an additional pallor over her naturally fair, porcelain complexion.
Especially when she sat silently in the living room with her hair down and wearing pajamas she gave off the vibe of a famous Japanese horror movie heroine.
Gu Xian was nearly scared out of her wits, using every ounce of her strength to stifle a scream that could have woken the entire household.
Who in their right mind sits on the sofa in the middle of the night, spacing out like that? And without turning on the lights!
Even the most poised and elegant socialite would struggle not to curse Gu Lin for being a lunatic.
It was genuinely terrifying! Her heart was practically leaping out of her chest!
Gu Xian took a slow, deep breath, her back damp with cold sweat. All she’d wanted was a glass of water to quench her thirst, but life had thrown this malicious prank at her.
Annoyed, she set down the water glass, grabbed a bottle of Corona from the fridge, and chugged it down in one go, as if drinking to muster courage.
After finishing the beer, her mood settled considerably at least she no longer felt the urge to curse the moment she opened her mouth.
Regaining her ladylike composure and calm, Gu Xian tapped Gu Lin’s head lost in who-knows-what thoughts and asked irritably, “What’s wrong?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she knew they were unnecessary. What else could it be? It had to be another bout of self-pity over her failed attempts to win back her beloved.
No one but the formidable Miss Wen could reduce Gu Lin to such a state.
Gu Lin lifted her head slowly, wordlessly handing over her phone.
Her expression seemed to say, “See for yourself what happened, I’m too heartbroken to speak.”
It was a chat log between the two.
Xiao Lin Filming: [Are you free lately? There’s a new Japanese restaurant that just opened in the capital.]
Sent at 10:20 AM.
Wen Yan Done with Art: [No.]
Sent at 11:00 PM.
“Pfft.”
Gu Xian couldn’t hold back a snort, her face turning red from suppressed laughter. Gu Lin shot her a deeply resentful look before lowering her head dejectedly, like an unloved puppy.
There were many similar exchanges.
Xiao Lin Filming: [It’s getting colder make sure to dress warmly.]
Wen Yan Done with Art: [Oh.]
Xiao Lin Filming: [Are you busy?]
Wen Yan Done with Art: [Yes.]
Xiao Lin Filming: [Have you eaten?]
Wen Yan Done with Art: [No.]
Xiao Lin Filming: [Why not? Let me order you some takeout?]
Wen Yan Done with Art: [Dieting.]
Xiao Lin Filming: [What are you up to?]
Wen Yan Done with Art: [Breathing.]
“Pffft! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”
Her future sister-in-law was truly something else.
Gu Xian collapsed onto the sofa, laughing so hard she could barely breathe. Wiping tears of mirth from the corners of her eyes, she continued scrolling through the chat, only to burst into laughter again.
Gu Lin pouted in frustration, regretting having shared her embarrassing moments with the sister who loved teasing her the most.
But the infectious laughter attracted someone far more intimidating. Second sister Gu Shuang was a light sleeper, and the noise shattered the drowsiness she had painstakingly built up.
Everyone in the Gu family knew that Gu Shuang’s temper upon waking was fearsome, but her fury over being unable to fall asleep was even more unbearable.
She threw off the covers, slipped into her slippers, and headed downstairs. The soft pattering of her footsteps failed to alert Gu Xian, who was still lost in fits of laughter.
Gu Lin had already been poking her, but Gu Xian remained unmoved, perfectly embodying the principle that “if you don’t court death, you won’t die.”
“What are you laughing at so late at night instead of sleeping?”
The voice was so cold it felt tangible, sending chills down one’s spine and making them tremble uncontrollably.
An overwhelming pressure relentlessly bore down from behind. Gu Xian’s laughter abruptly ceased. She guiltily hunched her shoulders, then slowly looked up, offering an ingratiating smile.
“Sister Shuang, you’re still awake?”
Gu Shuang smiled back and immediately flicked her forehead with a sharp knock.
“Thanks to you.”
Gu Xian clutched her head, tears welling in her eyes as she cried out in pain. The daughters of an actress were never short on acting skills. When the mood struck, the four of them could stage a full-blown palace or household drama.
One moment, it was a life-or-death struggle of scheming and treachery; the next, they’d break character, holding hands and heading off to raid luxury stores. Thanks to her four sisters, Gu Lin had experienced a rather schizophrenic childhood.
“I’m sorry, Sister Shuang. I shouldn’t have disturbed your sleep.”
“But it’s just so funny! Here, take a look.”
Gu Xian first bowed her head apologetically, then eagerly handed her phone to her second sister. Gu Lin couldn’t stop her in time, watching helplessly as another person became privy to her secret.
It was truly infuriating.
Gu Lin thought sadly that, as the youngest in the family, she had absolutely no rights in front of her sisters.
If she dared to resist, she’d get a knock on the head and a tattletale report, after which their mother would step in and say, “You’re the only alpha; your sisters are all omegas. You can’t bully them.”
The perpetually bullied little Gu Lin silently wiped her tears, feeling so wronged that she wished she were an omega.
After reading the chat history and seeing how dejected her youngest sister looked, Gu Shuang found herself torn between laughter and tears.
How had someone who used to be so carefree and unrestrained ended up like this?
“What did you do to make her angry?”
Experience trumped youth. Gu Shuang immediately noticed that Wen Yan’s emotions were off.
If she truly didn’t want to engage, it would be perfectly reasonable to ignore such dull and boring opening lines. Some of the messages even made Gu Shuang frown instinctively, thinking to herself that no one could possibly respond to Gu Lin’s way of chatting. Although Wen Yan’s tone wasn’t great and her replies were spaced far apart, at least three hours apart, she had replied.
Your chatting skills are so poor that it’s hard for anyone to feel interested or motivated.
But Wen Yan replied. She engaged with you.
“I didn’t make her angry.” Gu Lin remained completely unaware.
After that incident, Wen Yan seemed to be avoiding her. Out of consideration, Gu Lin didn’t want to pressure her too much, so the two of them rarely spent time alone together on set. Later, Wen Yan signed a contract, Rivalry wrapped up filming, and things gradually turned into this lukewarm state.
Gu Shuang shook her head and said with certainty, “You definitely made her angry. Think carefully about what you’ve done recently.”
Only an omega can truly understand another omega. Wen Yan’s attitude clearly screamed, “I’m angry, and you don’t even realize it, you idiot. If you don’t come and comfort me soon, it’s over.” Gu Xian understood instantly after reading the chat history and couldn’t stop laughing at her sister’s obliviousness and naivety.
The fact that Gu Lin still looked confused, genuinely believing she hadn’t done anything wrong, made it even funnier.
“I really can’t figure it out.” Gu Lin slumped her shoulders weakly, her dejected appearance making her two older sisters feel sorry for her.
“If you can’t figure it out, then forget it.” Gu Xian patted her head. “Sometimes making mistakes isn’t important, what matters is going to make up with her.”
There was one more thing she didn’t say.
Even if you didn’t do anything wrong, if your girlfriend wants you to comfort her, you still have to do it.
That concept was too advanced for Little Five right now. Better to take it step by step.
Gu Xian thought for a moment, then her eyes suddenly lit up. Excitedly, she pressed on Little Five’s shoulders.
“How about this next month’s Milan Fall/Winter Fashion Week, I’ll give you two tickets. You can invite Wen Yan to attend the show with you?”
“I’ll cover flights and hotels, but you’ll have to pay for the romantic candlelit dinner and rubber condoms yourself.”
“Sister Xian!”
Gu Lin bristled like a cat, standing up straight immediately. Her height advantage instantly overshadowed both sisters.
“Oh, I was just joking! You’re really getting angry? So sensitive.”
Gu Lin: “Are you just trying to get me to be your model again?”
Gu Lin wasn’t stupid. Even among close siblings, accounts should be settled clearly. Every time Sister Xian invited her to fashion week, it was always to force her to wear new designs on the runway.
“Mua, So smart!” Gu Xian blew her sister a rewarding kiss.
“Can I just buy your fashion week invitation instead?”
Gu Xian immediately put on a stern face. “Not for any amount of money!”
Then her expression softened again as she pinched Little Five’s cheek with a smile. “With your height and your poker face just like Sister Shuang’s, you’re perfect for the runway! Think how handsome and beautiful you’ll look up there won’t Wen Yan be moved when she sees you?”
Why are you so unwilling?
“Who did you say has a poker face?”
!
Oh no.
In her haste, she’d dragged the ice tiger into this too.
Gu Xian blinked at Little Five before her, her eyes pleading: Save me!
Gu Shuang didn’t give Gu Lin that chance. Without another word, using her long arms and legs to her advantage, she pulled Gu Xian upstairs.
“It seems we sisters need to strengthen our bond.”
“How about sharing a bed tonight?”
Trembling Gu Xian: Can I refuse?
