- Chapter 26 - Don't Withdraw from the Engagement, and Don't Have Delusions
Wen Yan grabbed Gu Lin by the collar of her shirt and pulled her close.
If there had been a tie there, it would have been more convenient than this, easier to control.
Even in her eight-centimeter heels, she was still shorter than the 176 cm tall Gu Lin. She had to pull her down harder while rising onto her tiptoes.
Ever since she had been drugged, she had wanted to kiss her. Gu Lin was the only woman in her life so far who had stirred desire in her through sheer innocence the object of her fantasies in moments of confusion, the pure white she longed to taint and defile.
She was the hero who had descended from the heavens in her moments of helpless despair.
She was the deity who, when Wen Yan thought she would have to trade her soul, enveloped her in a sacred light.
Wen Yan could no longer suppress the turbulent waves rising within her because of this person. She was far from the indifference she projected on the surface her heart had been pounding all along, aching with longing.
It was too much.
Wen Yan kissed her fiercely, with a force that felt like revenge.
This person was too much.
She bit into the warm lips, skillfully teasing the dormant desire within Gu Lin.
How could she say those things? How could she say them like that?
Did she want to make her cry in front of so many people?!
Wen Yan’s aggressive, domineering kiss left Gu Lin, a first-timer, nearly breathless. Wen Yan got what she wanted she saw the blush spreading across Gu Lin’s face.
It was shyness, but also suffocation.
The foolish Fifth Young Miss didn’t know how to breathe during the kiss, yet she didn’t want to stop. She’d rather hold her breath until her face turned red than let go of the person before her.
This only made Wen Yan want to cry even more. The heat behind her eyelids was unmistakable, the ache in her nose overwhelming. She gritted her teeth and abruptly released Gu Lin.
“Why did you have to mess with me?!”
Wen Yan might look like a delicate omega, but her strength was considerable. Gu Lin felt dizzy from her shaking or perhaps it was from the intensity of the kiss.
“I have a fiancée, and there are people who want me dead. They’re all powerful figures.”
“Why did you have to mess with me?!”
“What gives you the right to mess with me?!”
Wen Yan’s accusations fell like thunderbolts. Gu Lin looked up at the overcast sky and sensed the bravado in the woman before her.
She was pushing her away to protect her.
Maybe not exactly to protect her, but at the very least, to avoid dragging her into trouble.
Gu Lin fell silent. She didn’t want to make empty promises about being able to protect her that would be too childish, too unconvincing.
Like a naive boy swearing, “I’ll make you happy,” it would sound shallow and hollow.
So, in Wen Yan’s eyes, this silence was an admission.
She let go, her palms sweaty, Gu Lin’s shirt crumpled from her grip.
Just like her own heart, twisted into a knot, unable to relax.
“Go.”
Wen Yan turned and walked away. Just as it seemed the scene was coming to an end, Gu Lin spoke one last sentence.
“That was my first kiss.”
Her tone was so dejected, like a little girl who had been abandoned, reproaching Wen Yan’s conscience.
Wen Yan paused mid-step, then grabbed Wen Xiu, who had been watching from the side, and walked away without looking back.
Her retreat was hurried, almost like an escape.
Qin Xia also got out of the car, her phone replaying the video she had just recorded. The scene was beautiful and romantic, a midsummer night, the two of them kissing under the starry sky.
It looked like the beginning of a beautiful love story.
“Fifth Young Miss.”
The two figures completely dissolved into the darkness, and Gu Lin withdrew her gaze, her tone calm and devoid of emotion.
“Let’s go back.”
Qin Xia sighed inwardly. Tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.
Whenever the Fifth Young Miss had something on her mind, she couldn’t sleep and would go to the balcony to look at the stars.
Having been with the Gu family for so many years, he was thoroughly familiar with the Fifth Young Miss’s habits.
Sure enough, Gu Lin went to the rooftop balcony.
The space here was quite spacious. On the left was a lush grapevine trellis, while on the right stood a set of British-style tea tables and chairs, along with an astronomical telescope quietly placed in the corner.
She hadn’t been sitting long when light footsteps sounded behind her.
“Sisi Jie.”
Without turning around, Gu Lin knew who it was and greeted her.
“What’s wrong? Sitting here all alone and sulking?”
Gu Sisi was wearing a white nightgown with a knitted shawl draped over her shoulders. Her long hair cascaded down, and she wore silver-rimmed glasses, giving her a gentle and intellectual appearance.
“Did I disturb your rest?”
Gu Lin asked apologetically.
“Not at all. I was revising a script and saw Qin Xia bringing you back.”
“Aren’t you going to tell your sister how you played the hero and saved the beauty?”
Gu Lin was reserved by nature, not fond of talking much. When she felt wronged, she preferred to retreat to a quiet place to process her emotions alone.
Among the five children in the family, Gu Sisi and Gu Lin were the closest in age and most compatible in temperament. Whenever Little Five hid in a corner with downcast eyes, it was often Gu Sisi who went to find her.
Thus, the two shared the closest bond. Gu Lin instinctively trusted and relied on her fourth sister.
So Gu Lin recounted the entire sequence of events. After pouring out her heart, the heaviness in her chest lightened considerably, and her shoulders relaxed as they drooped.
“So?”
Gu Sisi’s eyes curved mischievously as she grinned.
“How did your first kiss feel?”
Gu Lin’s face instantly flushed crimson. Meeting her sister’s teasing gaze only deepened her embarrassment.
“It was quite nice.”
Gentle yet fervent, the touch and entanglement were comfortable, accompanied by a faint tingling sensation.
Especially since Wen Yan had taken the initiative, making the kiss all the sweeter.
Seeing her lost in reverie with that hopeless expression, Gu Sisi found it amusing. Where had the troubled, deeply burdened Little Five from moments ago gone?
One kiss and she was completely disoriented.
Tch, how pathetic.
Gu Sisi silently scoffed, assuring herself that she certainly wasn’t envious or jealous!
“Then what were you upset about earlier?”
She adjusted her glasses and asked.
At this, Gu Lin’s expression faded again. “I wasn’t upset.”
“I was just bothered.”
As she spoke, a bitter smile one never before seen on her face appeared on Gu Lin’s lips.
“I was just pathetically jealous.”
Gu Sisi was utterly speechless.
“When others get jealous, they cry, make a scene, and demand hugs.”
“When you get jealous, you climb up to the balcony to gaze at the stars.”
“Why do you have to be so uniquely poetic and unconventional?”
Gu Lin: …
Gu Lin didn’t respond, but she felt aggrieved. She turned away to express her displeasure.
Her slender back seemed to radiate the words “I’m sulking.”
What kind of alpha was she so serene and soft, even her expressions of emotion were so harmless.
Gu Sisi smiled silently, wanting to hug her as she did in childhood. But considering they were grown up now and Little Five had a girl she liked, she ultimately lowered her hand.
Gu Lin had always been willing to bear the title of a “sister-con” since childhood, but Gu Sisi had no desire to be labeled a “sister-loving freak.”
Seeing her so pitiful, Gu Sisi’s heart softened, and she helplessly took off her shawl, draping it over Xiao Wu.
“Alright, stop overthinking it.”
“It was your first kiss, but was it not hers too?”
“You’re acting as if you were taken advantage of.”
“Besides, she kissed you, not someone else, right?”
“Doesn’t that say something?”
Ah, the damned possessiveness of an alpha, it can practically cut a person’s intelligence in half. If Wen Yan didn’t like her, why would she go so far as to forcefully kiss her? If she didn’t like her, why would she repeatedly emphasize that someone was trying to hunt her down? And if she didn’t like her, why would she try to push her away, only to uncontrollably draw closer again?
As a writer, Gu Sisi adjusted her glasses and confidently declared that she had seen this kind of plot in plenty of novels.
“I wasn’t thinking that,” Gu Lin stubbornly retorted.
She wasn’t that oblivious when it came to emotions. Wen Yan treated her differently Gu Lin could feel it.
“Then hurry back and rest, and figure out how to win over that tsundere yet adorable beauty and bring her into our family.”
Gu Sisi forcibly pulled Gu Lin up and dragged her downstairs without another word.
“You have no idea how terrifying Mom has become. She’s evolved from urging us to marry to urging us to have kids none of our three older sisters have been spared.”
“You should join in soon and share some of the pressure with your sisters.”
“Mom likes Wen Yan so much. If you two have a child, she’ll definitely stop nagging.”
Gu Lin, dragged all the way to the door, was speechless.
She and Wen Yan weren’t even officially together yet.
Gu Sisi thought for a moment, then suddenly asked excitedly, “How about naming your future child Gu Aiyan? It sounds nice and romantic and it works for both alpha and omega!”
Gu Aiyan, Gu Lin loves Wen Yan.
The still-single Fifth Young Miss blushed bright red and couldn’t help but glare at her sister.
“Don’t talk nonsense. She might not even be willing to marry me.”
Gu Sisi snorted lightly. “But do you want her to marry you?”
Fifth Young Miss, staying true to her heart, whispered in reply, “I do.”
And she recalled that time in the helicopter when Wen Yan, caught in a heat-induced daze, had deliriously said she wanted to marry her.
The heat in her cheeks intensified.
“Then you have to work hard, Little Five.”
Gu Sisi patted her shoulder, her tone earnest.
“We’re all waiting for you to bring her home.”
“We’re all waiting for her to become part of our family.”
