- Chapter 27 - Don't Break Off the Engagement, But Don't Show Affection Either (Reverse V Begins)
Wen Yan still couldn’t make it to the next day’s shoot.
The reason was that Officer Bi Yu from the police station had sent her a message around two in the morning, asking if she had time to come to the station the next morning to give a statement.
The interrogation had just concluded then. Since it was an on-site arrest, with traces of the knockout drug still present on the utensils and Liang Feng carrying a small bottle of the substance, the evidence was solid caught red-handed.
With the evidence undeniable, Liang Feng confessed without hesitation to his attempted assault.
But when Bi Yu brought up the forced marking case from years ago, Liang Feng vehemently denied any involvement, insisting that the omega had gone into heat and seduced him, making him the victim.
The scumbag clearly knew the difference in sentencing between attempted assault and rape. If he admitted to it, he would face up to ten years in prison.
Now, it was only three years.
Wen Yan hadn’t been asleep either at that time, repeatedly listening to the recording from the voice recorder she had hidden in her bag.
“You should never, ever have provoked someone you could never afford to offend.”
“That person wants you dead.”
Under the bright moonlight, Wen Yan sat by the window at her desk, replaying those words over and over.
Whether it was the hitman’s suicide or Liang Feng’s sudden attack, both revealed the immense power of the mastermind behind it all. It felt as though an invisible hand had already quietly closed around her neck.
In the stillness of that summer night, Wen Yan shivered, her entire body turning cold as if she had fallen into an icy abyss.
Who could harbor such deep hatred for the original owner of this body?
Rubbing her temples, Wen Yan racked her brain, trying to recall any influential figures who fit the description, but she came up empty.
Then again, the original Wen Yan had gone abroad to study before finishing middle school and had little opportunity to learn about or interact with powerful figures domestically.
Logically speaking, such a person shouldn’t exist.
Even if they did, the only possibility was Liang Feng.
Love turning to hatred upon learning of her return, he first hired a hitman. After the hitman’s suicide, he resorted to drugging her himself.
As for the words he had spoken, they were likely just an attempt to justify his crimes.
Tapping her index finger repeatedly on the desk, Wen Yan felt this explanation made sense, but something still didn’t sit right.
Coincidentally, Officer Bi Yu sent her a message at that moment, asking if she had time the next day to give a statement.
Wen Yan agreed immediately. She had questions for Liang Feng and things she needed to discuss with Bi Yu in person.
Liang Feng seemed unsurprised that Wen Yan had come to see him, though his probing gaze was lecherous and disgusting.
“That alpha didn’t mark you.”
His tone was surprised, with a hint of inexplicable delight.
For a scumbag alpha like Liang Feng, having his prey snatched away was even more unbearable than being imprisoned. When that damned woman had carried Wen Yan away, Liang Feng had wanted to kill her.
But to do nothing to a delicious omega like Wen Yan he could smell no alpha’s scent on her. He didn’t know whether to call that woman foolish or stupid.
Wen Yan couldn’t be bothered to respond to his remark. Lin Ye was a good person, far too good for someone like Liang Feng to even mention her name. She sat down gracefully, forcing herself to look at his repulsive face, and asked:
“I didn’t expect you to confess so simply and directly.”
“I thought you’d say someone put you up to this.”
Liang Feng lowered his head, a faint smile curling his lips. Though already imprisoned, he carried himself with the smugness of anything but a defeated man.
“What are you talking about, Yanyan?”
“Who would put me up to this? I planned it all myself, through and through.”
His face was truly handsome when he smiled, but that only made it all the more repulsive.
Wen Yan suppressed his nausea, maintaining a calm facade.
They were alone together in the interrogation room. But outside the glass, officers could clearly see and hear everything happening inside.
Liang Feng’s statements were inconsistent which time was he lying?
The recording had been submitted as evidence to Bi Yu. Only after Bi Yu listened to it did he request this interrogation.
If it wasn’t just premeditated assault, but rather a setup orchestrated by someone else.
Then the sentence wouldn’t be just three years.
Bi Yu pondered this, then suddenly thought of something. He picked up the microphone and spoke directly.
“Come on out, Wen Yan.”
They wouldn’t get anywhere like this. He had a simpler, more straightforward method.
After handing the matter entirely over to Officer Bi Yu, Wen Yan hurried to the airport and bought a ticket for the earliest flight.
Gu Lin had sent her a message saying she could take a day off, no need to rush back so urgently.
Wen Yan appreciated the kindness but declined nonetheless.
Perhaps it was because two consecutive incidents targeting her had occurred in the capital, leaving her with an inexplicable sense of dread toward the city. In contrast, life on set, secluded from the hustle and bustle, focused solely on filming, felt surprisingly peaceful.
Outside the window, the ground grew increasingly distant, buildings and streets shrinking into a grid of lines and squares like a chessboard.
Suddenly, the image of Lin Ye piloting the helicopter yesterday flashed through her mind his sharp outline and calm eyes.
The cramped cockpit had been saturated with her scent.
The upright alpha hadn’t even dared to glance her way, so endearingly adorable.
Wen Yan closed her eyes, annoyed by these uncontrollable memories. She was no naive young girl, long past the age of dreaming about eternal love with one person. So why was she acting like a lovesick fool now, thinking of him at every turn?
The little fox gritted her teeth in frustration, blaming it all on the big dog.
As luck would have it, Gu Lin chose that moment to send another message.
Xiao Lin Filming: [What time do you arrive? I’ll have Qin Xia pick you up from the airport.]
Wen Yan Doesn’t Want to Draw Anymore: [No need, thank you, Director Lin.]
As aloof and poised as ever.
Xiao Lin Filming: [Xu Wei wraps today. I’m treating the main crew to dinner tonight before she leaves.]
So Xu Wei was wrapping up.
Wen Yan understood Director Lin’s intention, she wanted her to make it in time for the farewell dinner.
Such damn thoughtfulness.
But she had just coldly rejected Director Lin. To accept this graciously now would bruise Wen·Very Concerned About Face·Yan’s pride.
So, with all the tsundere she could muster, she had her younger brother Wen Xiu send her flight arrival time to Director Lin’s assistant, Qin Xia.
As for foisting tasks she didn’t want to do onto her brother, Wen Yan felt not an ounce of guilt.
Isn’t that what older sisters are for? Otherwise, what’s the point of having a younger brother?
Wen·Designated Tool·Xiu: Waa waa.
Qin Xia picked her up and drove straight to the restaurant for the gathering.
The location was 1029 Lobster House, the very place where she and Director Lin had first met.
Wen Yan: “…”
Suddenly, it felt like the whole world was conspiring to get her into a relationship.
The beauty was speechless, feeling a hint of awkwardness.
But a queen is a queen, she would never show it. Even if Mount Tai collapsed before her, her expression wouldn’t change.
The car pulled smoothly into a parking spot in front of the lobster restaurant. Wen Yan let the others go in first while she went to the restroom to touch up her makeup.
They had reserved a private room. The group wasn’t large just the director, producers, supervisors, and a few lead actors.
Wen Yan was the last to arrive. Before she could even sit down, Han Lu mischievously called for her to be punished with a drink. Gu Lin, seated between Xu Wei and the supervisor, set down her chopsticks and frowned slightly. Before she could say anything, Wen Yan readily agreed.
“Alright, it’s my fault for keeping everyone waiting.”
On the table was huangjiu, the famous Nu’er Hong from Yuezhou. Wen Yan poured herself a full glass, offered a gracious toast, and downed it in one go.
Her decisiveness and poise drinking without hesitation radiated a queenly aura.
Without waiting for Han Lu’s reaction, she took a seat beside her younger brother.
“She’s got the right temperament for the entertainment industry, adaptable and sociable. She’s going to make it big,” the producer whispered into Gu Lin’s ear.
Gu Lin smiled softly and replied in a low voice, “How about casting her in our next film?”
Rivalry, their current project, was nearing its end, and the script for the next film had already been sent over by Sister Sisi.
The producer thought it over and nodded. “I think it’s a good idea. There are a few roles that would suit her well.”
Gu Lin’s smile deepened as she lifted her teacup to her lips. The tea leaves were of poor quality, so she didn’t take a sip, merely touching it to her mouth.
With everyone present, the dishes were served.
Xu Wei, as the host, sat beside Gu Lin. She wore a solid aqua blue spaghetti strap dress, the hem adorned with white lace, adding an elegant and luxurious touch.
She had styled her hair in a ponytail, mimicking Gu Lin’s look, giving off a youthful and adorable vibe.
The pale skin at the nape of her neck was exposed to the air, like a forbidden zone suddenly left unguarded, evoking a tantalizing urge to trespass.
It was the young girl’s first attempt at showcasing her omega charm, and she was still a bit clumsy about it. She was even too shy to release her pheromones, her cheeks merely flushing slightly.
This was her last day on set, and Xu Wei wanted to be brave and give it a try.
Having mustered her courage, the little deer lifted her head and met those cool, phoenix-like eyes. The moment their gazes locked, her carefully built resolve crumbled. Her rehearsed lines flew right out of her head, and she could only stammer, “Director Lin, wh-why aren’t you eating?”
Gu Lin had barely touched her chopsticks and hadn’t even attempted to eat the crayfish when it was served.
Does she not know how to peel them?
Xu Wei’s eyes lit up, thinking she had found a way to salvage the situation. “If you don’t know how, I can peel the shrimp for you. How about that?”
Gu Lin was baffled. “Who told you I don’t know how to?”
Where did that rumor come from?
When it came to peeling shrimp, if she claimed to be second, no one would dare call themselves first.
The onlookers thought: Hopeless. She’s so clueless, there’s no saving her.
Everyone could see that Xu Wei’s intentions lay elsewhere, it wasn’t about the shrimp. Only Director Lin remained oblivious, genuinely thinking it was just a farewell gesture.
Wen Yan: Oh no, this side of her is kind of adorable.
Wen Xiu silently watched the curve of his sister’s lips as they lifted, then picked up a dish and placed it in front of her.
Xu Wei: “Then you should eat.”
The little deer felt wronged, thinking her goodwill had been mistaken for ill intent.
Director Lin can be so annoying sometimes.
Clueless, straight as an arrow, big meanie.
Xu Wei lowered her head, using her small hands to peel the shrimp shell, then picked up the intact shrimp meat and hesitantly tried to place it into Director Lin’s plate.
It’s just a piece of meat, it shouldn’t be a big deal, right?
“Wen Yan.”
Gu Lin beat her to it, placing a shrimp dipped in sauce into Wen Yan’s plate from a distance.
It was all thanks to her long arms.
“It’s plum-flavored, give it a try.”
Being favored by the director in front of so many people, Wen Yan was both flattered and overwhelmed, wishing she could shove the contentious piece of meat directly into Xu Wei’s gaping mouth, which was wide open in disbelief.
But she couldn’t, doing so would surely anger Director Lin.
So, Wen Yan swiftly picked up the shrimp and stuffed it into her younger brother’s mouth, appearing gentle and refined, like a loving older sister.
“Is it delicious, A Xiu? Director Lin specially peeled it for you.”
Wen Xiu: Ugh, can I spit it out? Director Lin is glaring at me!
