- Chapter 23 - Temporarily Not Annul the Marriage
Liang Feng twisted the ring on his index finger, feeling that time had dragged on too long.
The medium-rare steak remained largely untouched, its deep red myoglobin spreading across the pristine white plate, a sight both bloody and tantalizing to the appetite.
But Liang Feng had no intention of eating his fill. He preferred to remain hungry, believing it sharpened his mind and made the prey after a successful hunt taste all the more exquisite.
Had she sensed something amiss and decided to hide in the restroom, waiting for rescue?
It was possible.
After all, this woman had possessed an instinct for seeking advantage and avoiding harm since childhood.
Liang Feng narrowed his eyes, involuntarily recalling events from their youth.
Their childhood friendship was genuine. With their families frequently interacting in business, Liang Feng and Wen Yan had practically grown up together.
Perhaps because Wen Yan’s father was reserved and stern, his two children were equally quiet. Liang Feng took on the role of the witty and cheerful older brother, coaxing the siblings to play along.
And in the process, he subtly took liberties, seizing small advantages.
He was two years older than Wen Yan. Having accompanied his father into various social circles, he was well-traveled and mature for his age, a restless alpha with an insatiable curiosity about the female omega’s body and its physiological aspects far more intense than his peers.
Even his first experiences came earlier than most.
Once he had tasted the forbidden fruit, he craved more. As Wen Yan blossomed into increasing beauty, Liang Feng’s restlessness grew.
Unfortunately, whether she had noticed his covert actions or he had simply visited the Wen family too often, Wen Yan’s attitude toward him cooled significantly. Eventually, she began avoiding him altogether.
It wasn’t until he intercepted her one day in the junior high school building that she informed him she was betrothed.
Even without the engagement, she would never accept someone who had molested and harassed his “sister.”
Yes, before Liang Feng had crossed the line, Wen Yan had always regarded him as a dependable neighbor and brother figure.
Clearly, Liang Feng saw things differently. Even if Wen Yan was promised to another, if he wanted her, he would stop at nothing to claim her.
Liang Feng decided to go all out and ruin Wen Yan.
First, he told his father he was in love with her and wanted to marry her, requesting that his father propose on his behalf. Simultaneously, he spread rumors at school that Wen Yan was his omega, already marked by him and that no one not even other omegas was allowed near her.
Naturally, the marriage proposal was rejected. Wen Yan’s father had always tacitly acknowledged the engagement with the Gu family and would not go back on his word.
This led to a fallout between the Wen and Liang families. The Wen family lost a powerful business partner, their assets plummeted, and their former glory faded.
At school, Wen Yan faced ostracism and neglect, compounded by Liang Feng’s brazen harassment. She gradually grew averse to school and developed depression.
She was sent abroad, both for a change of environment and for treatment.
No matter how obsessed he was, Liang Feng would not abandon his family’s business and assets to follow her overseas.
In a way, Wen Yan benefited from the misfortune, escaping Liang Feng’s clutches.
If not for that woman, Liang Feng wouldn’t even have known about Wen Yan’s return. Years ago, he had caused the death of an omega, and since then, the wealthy second-generation circle had shunned him, disgusted by the blood on his hands. Even his family’s business lost many major orders.
He grew more destitute with each passing year, and his company teetered on the brink of bankruptcy.
Until a noble female omega appeared, claiming she could help him.
That woman.
Liang Feng narrowed his eyes, his pupils flickering with desire.
Compared to Wen Yan, Liang Feng wanted to conquer her even more.
The time on his wristwatch urged him to check on the state of the prey that had fallen into his trap. Liang Feng stood up, his crocodile leather shoes stepping on the floor, reflecting a cold, gleaming light.
Standing outside the omega-exclusive restroom, he could already smell the intoxicating, rich fragrance.
With just one breath, Liang Feng felt a bit lightheaded, his body igniting like dry tinder.
He entered the restroom, noticed there was no one else inside, and immediately closed the door, locking it.
“Yan Yan, stop hiding.”
There weren’t many stalls inside, and the space was small. Liang Feng easily pinpointed his target, his gaze fixed directly on the corner.
That was the source of this cool fragrance.
He walked over step by step, his leather shoes tapping rhythmically on the floor. As the footsteps drew closer, Wen Yan, leaning against the wall, instinctively held her breath.
“It must be unbearable, isn’t your body burning up?”
Liang Feng pushed the door, and as expected, it was locked.
“Just come out, and I’ll give you everything you want.”
“I promise you’ll feel ecstasy like never before.”
Hearing such words, Wen Yan was furious, but at that moment, even holding herself up was a struggle. Her legs trembled uncontrollably.
She couldn’t provoke the beast outside the door, nor could she let herself be provoked and lose her sanity to this overwhelming heat. The only thing she could do to save herself was to stall for time, to keep him talking.
Until Lin Ye came to rescue her.
“Who sent you to do this?”
Wen Yan struggled to steady her faltering body and managed to voice her accusation.
Very few people knew about her return to the country, let alone that someone was plotting to kill her. Yet Liang Feng knew and had used this very excuse to lure her out and set this trap.
There was only one explanation: Liang Feng knew the mastermind behind it all because he was an accomplice to the crime!
“As expected of Yan Yan, still as clever as ever.”
“But what good does knowing do you now? My poor Yan Yan.”
“You never should have crossed someone you could never afford to offend.”
“That person wants you dead.”
“Out of our childhood bond, I pleaded with her, saying you were my beloved, begging desperately on your behalf.”
“Only then did she spare your life.”
Liang Feng knocked on the door, still maintaining his ridiculous facade of gentlemanly demeanor, as if he hadn’t been the one to drug her.
“Be a good girl and come out.”
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be my omega?”
Wen Yan hadn’t expected him to admit it outright. Her mind struggled to process and discern the meaning behind Liang Feng’s words. Unfortunately, her consciousness grew increasingly faint, and everything before her eyes blurred. She could barely grasp the gist of what he said.
Her skin glistened with sweat, and the hair at her forehead was damp.
It felt as if she had fallen into water, everything around her drenched and suffocating.
Would she drown like this?
Wen Yan could no longer hold on and collapsed to the floor.
The coolness of the tiles provided a slight relief from the burning heat, but the sound alerted the beast outside.
Liang Feng knew Wen Yan had completely lost her ability to resist. She was now a helpless lamb, ready for the slaughter. He could no longer pretend to be the courteous gentleman and raised his foot, ready to kick the wooden door open.
“Bang!”
Wen Yan’s body jolted violently. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes in despair.
It seemed she was still too late.
In that moment, she suddenly felt a pang of regret.
Not regret for walking into this trap, the other party had been well-prepared, and even if she had escaped this time, the real culprit would have found another way to ensnare her.
She regretted that during the screen test with Lin Ye in the director’s room, when the other had leaned in gently for a kiss, their lips meeting, Wen Yan had felt an unusual flutter within her.
At that time, she had wanted to lick, to pry open, to use her skilled kissing technique to leave the woman in her arms breathless.
She had wanted to use her own allure to overpower that deadly innocence.
But in the end, she had done nothing.
If she woke up and saw Lin Ye again, she would no longer have the right to do so.
A loud crash echoed through the space. Liang Feng hadn’t held back, each kick landing squarely on the door lock.
After all, it was a wooden door, unable to withstand such violent treatment, and it soon showed signs of breaking.
One more kick, and it would be completely destroyed.
Liang Feng smirked, raised his foot, and prepared to strike with full force.
“Bang!”
An even louder noise came from outside the door. The restroom door was forcibly broken open, the panel crashing straight down with another heart-stopping thud.
Startled by the sudden turn of events, Liang Feng shrank back and took two steps backward.
Dust filled the air as two figures stood at the doorway, stepping on the fallen door panel. Before Liang Feng could even see who they were, a hook punch sent him sprawling to the ground.
The punch was fierce and precise clearly from someone trained.
Bi Yu swiftly twisted Liang Feng’s arm behind his back, pressing her knee firmly into the scum’s spine, and deftly slapped handcuffs on him.
“Liang Feng, you are under arrest for suspicion of drugging and attempting to rape an omega.”
“Save your explanations for the police station.”
Damn.
He’d been caught.
Liang Feng struggled violently, but the woman restraining him was too strong. Unable to break free, he lifted his head defiantly.
His eyes met a pair of cold, piercing ones.
The gaze belonged to an elegant yet aloof woman, tall and long-legged.
She looked down at him as if he were a piece of filth. Wen Yan was held tightly in her arms, draped in a black suit jacket that didn’t belong to her.
This damned female alpha stood before him like a victor, holding his prey, silently mocking his failure.
“Who are you?!”
“Let go of Wen Yan! She’s mine!”
The thought of his almost-captured prize being taken by someone else made Liang Feng’s eyes burn with rage. He strained his neck, roaring furiously.
“She’s mine!”
Gu Lin averted her gaze and raised her foot, pressing the man’s head hard against the floor, silencing his unfinished words.
She ground the sole of her shoe against his face, back and forth.
As if crushing a bug.
