- Chapter 22 - Should I Cancel the Engagement After Being Rescued by a Hero?
Bi Yu and Gu Lin received messages from Wen Yan and Wen Xiu almost simultaneously.
Bi Yu didn’t hide the fact that Wen Yan had encountered a murderous car accident upon returning to the country and recounted the incident in detail.
After hearing this, Ye Lan’s heart ached terribly. She wished she could immediately call her future daughter-in-law to offer comfort, bring her home to stay, and assign an entire platoon of bodyguards to ensure her safety.
Who in the world could be so cruel as to harm such a delicate flower!
She was furious!
Unfortunately, her own daughter hadn’t managed to win the young lady’s heart, leaving her to silently worry about Wen Yan from the sidelines.
The thought made her angry. Ye Lan put down her phone and glared at her youngest daughter.
“Take good care of Yan Yan!”
“If anything happens to her, you’ll be left mourning her as a widow!”
Ye Lan spoke with utter seriousness, not a hint of jest in her tone.
Gu Xian couldn’t hold back a soft chuckle but quickly regained her usual composed demeanor, as if the laugh had never happened.
As the eldest sister, Gu Yi was the most mature and steady, possessing a gentle and considerate nature that her younger sisters lacked. She patted Xiao Wu’s hand and spoke earnestly, “With Xiao Yan’s strong-willed and independent personality, not to mention her beauty, there are bound to be many alphas coveting her.”
“Since you’ve admitted you like her, you must protect your omega.”
“If anything comes up, talk to your sisters. Just say the word.”
“We’ll make sure to help you.”
Beside them, Gu Sisi secretly pursed her lips. It wasn’t that she disagreed with her eldest sister, but even Xiao Wu, who had never shown interest in omegas, had found someone she liked, while her own other half seemed yet to be born, with no sign in sight.
Suddenly feeling left behind, she grew a bit flustered.
Gu Lin, sensing her eldest sister’s concern, smiled gently, maintaining her usual sweet and obedient demeanor.
“Okay, Yi Jie.”
It was at that moment she received a message from Wen Xiu.
Young Xiu: [Sister is meeting with Liang Feng tonight.]
Liang Feng?
Gu Lin hadn’t heard the name before and looked up to ask her third sister, Gu Xian.
“Xian Jie, do you know Liang Feng?”
Gu Xian, a renowned designer and a wealthy socialite herself, had extensive connections and prestige in both high-society and luxury car circles. She was familiar with almost every notable figure.
Hearing the name, Gu Xian instinctively frowned, her expression filled with disgust.
“A good-for-nothing playboy. Back when the Liang family still had some influence, he pursued Shuang Jie.”
Gu Shuang, the second daughter of the Gu family and a darling of the modeling and fashion world, remained unfazed when mentioned. With suitors lining up, if not all the way to Paris, at least to Tokyo she was surrounded by so many alphas that they all blurred together in her mind, never leaving a lasting impression.
Though she didn’t remember, Bi Yu recalled a case of forced marking. The victim was a female omega college student who had suddenly gone into heat at a bar. Liang Feng took her to a hotel, had relations with her, and forcibly marked her.
The girl tearfully claimed she had been drugged, insisting she had just passed her heat cycle not long ago.
However, neither the glasses at the scene nor tests on the girl’s body detected any relevant chemicals, making it impossible to prove Liang Feng had intentionally committed assault.
In the end, he was acquitted and released, only required to compensate the omega for physical and emotional damages.
The omega went to have her mark removed, then returned to school only to be unable to endure the surrounding whispers and gossip before ultimately jumping to her death.
Her suicide note was filled with nothing but hatred for Liang Feng.
This case was etched into Bi Yu’s heart, and every time she recalled it, a sharp pain and regret pierced through her.
That year, she had just graduated from the police academy, full of passion and a sense of justice. Bi Yu believed the girl’s tears and sobbing accusations, and she also witnessed Liang Feng’s arrogance and lawlessness.
But there was nothing she could do, no evidence, no evidence at all.
Bi Yu had no choice but to follow the chief’s orders, her face cold as she released the young master of the Liang family.
Liang Feng swaggered past her, his eyes leering up and down. How could someone like that possibly be innocent?
Bi Yu clenched her fists.
“Officer Bi is so beautiful. I wonder if any alpha has ever tasted you?”
In that moment, Bi Yu wanted him dead.
Later, when she learned of the girl’s suicide, she picked a bouquet of white lilies to pay her respects.
In the black-and-white photograph, the girl was young and beautiful. Her middle-aged mother wept heart-wrenchingly in the mourning hall, her cries so sorrowful they moved all who heard them to tears. The father, red-eyed, bore the weight of everything with a hunched back.
That night, Bi Yu sobbed uncontrollably in Gu Shuang’s embrace.
From then on, this case became Bi Yu’s unresolved burden.
Once, during a family gathering of the Gu sisters, Gu Shuang brought her along. After the meal, Bi Yu struck up a conversation with Shen Jue, a doctor, and asked if there were any drugs that could induce an omega’s heat cycle prematurely.
Shen Jue gave her a surprised look. Knowing she was a police officer and an omega herself, he answered directly.
“Yes, and there are many. But these are all prohibited substances and not allowed to circulate on the market.”
“Is there any kind of drug that leaves no trace after use?” she asked, her heart pounding as if awaiting a judge’s verdict.
Shen Jue nodded.
“Yes.”
The gavel fell heavily.
Blood pooled on the ground like a blooming flower.
Belated justice could never bring back the vibrant life of the young girl.
From then on, Bi Yu focused on investigating the circulation channels of catalytic drugs while waiting for Liang Feng’s next move.
A lustful beast would never abandon its predatory instincts.
Bi Yu was certain she would hear news of this man again.
She just never expected that this time, his target would be Wen Yan.
There was no time for lengthy explanations, a single moment’s delay could recreate the cruel scene from years past.
Bi Yu grabbed her car keys, pulled Gu Lin along, and began explaining as they hurried out.
“That Liang Feng is scum! He has a history of drugging and assaulting omegas!”
“Wen Yan is at the Empire Building. You and I need to get there now!”
Upon hearing this, Gu Lin’s expression turned stern. The gentle, neighborly Xiao Wu was gone, replaced by the only alpha of her generation in the Gu family, the fifth young lady of the Gu family, revered by the world.
She stood there, expressionless, exuding an aura.
An aura so powerful it compelled obedience.
“Driving won’t be fast enough.”
Gu Lin stopped Bi Yu, her mind racing.
The Gu family estate was in the suburbs, at least an hour and a half from the city center. And with it being rush hour, the highways were packed with cars.
Driving would mean it was already too late.
“Uncle Zhong,” Gu Lin instructed the butler, “give me the helicopter keys.”
“Notify the Empire Building and the control tower that a Gu family aircraft will land within half an hour. I don’t want to see any other helicopters on that helipad.”
“Sister Shen Jue, please contact the hospital and prepare the medication to handle forced omega estrus.”
“Sister Bi Yu, you come with me, we’ll make the arrest on-site.”
“Also, Uncle Zhong, call Qin Xia and tell him his vacation is over.”
“Have him contact Wen Xiu and arrange for a car to take him to the hospital.”
Gu Lin pressed her forehead, repeatedly checking if she had missed anything.
Her composed and decisive demeanor, commanding the situation like a seasoned leader, exuded maturity and authority.
Ye Lan wiped the corner of her eye, feeling deeply moved that the child had grown up so remarkably.
Gu Sisi, unable to bear the idleness and seeing everyone else assigned tasks, raised her hand.
“Little Five, what about me? What about me?”
Was there no role for her in this heroic rescue?
Before Gu Lin could respond, Gu Sisi’s small hand was firmly pressed down by her second sister, Gu Shuang, who shot her a reproachful look that clearly said, “Don’t cause trouble.”
Fine.
The little fairy felt wronged, but the little fairy wouldn’t say a word.
“Alright, Little Five, you should hurry now.”
Ye Lan urged.
Gu Lin nodded, turned, and dashed out the door, her long hair flowing behind her.
She was off to rescue her fiancée and to see the one who held her heart.
The empty lawn was whipped into a frenzy of grass clippings by the powerful force of the helicopter’s rotor.
Gu Lin pulled Bi Yu aboard, shut the cabin door, and put on her headset.
With her seatbelt fastened, they were ready for takeoff.
The helicopter soared at a powerful speed of 240 kilometers per hour, climbing swiftly until the landmarks of the capital came into view.
The Empire Building.
Wen Yan.
Gu Lin silently repeated her name, growing more restless the closer they got.
All sorts of terrible scenarios played out in her mind.
This unease fueled her urge to act, prompting her to call Wen Yan.
Fortunately, the call connected quickly.
Wen Yan’s voice was weak and fragile, tinged with a faint sob, yet she calmly and succinctly described her situation.
There was none of the panic or helplessness Gu Lin had feared.
Just hearing her like this was enough to make Gu Lin’s heart ache unbearably.
Don’t be afraid.
Don’t be afraid.
Gu Lin replied in the same calm, rational tone, unsure if it offered Wen Yan any comfort.
The Fifth Young Miss didn’t know how to speak sweet words, she had always been blunt to a fault.
“I won’t let that happen.”
“I will protect you.”
