- Chapter 21 - Being Framed: Should I Break Off the Engagement?
The beautiful woman before him was vastly different from the young lady he remembered.
Liang Feng set down his knife and fork, wiped the corner of his mouth, and quietly observed Wen Yan.
His childhood sweetheart.
She ate very little, cutting her steak with a hint of carelessness, her eyelids lowered, exuding an air of laziness and nonchalance.
Even when she looked at someone, she didn’t fully take them in, merely scanning their outline.
She was nothing like the rigid, icy, and taciturn young lady she used to be, no longer the little girl who could be easily swayed by a few sweet words. Instead, she seemed like a high-altitude flower, tempered by the trials of the mundane world, every smile and frown perfectly controlled.
This aloofness only made Liang Feng more eager to pursue her.
Liang Feng snapped his fingers flirtatiously, signaling the waiter to pour the red wine. Wen Yan raised her hand slightly, stating she would only drink water.
She was particularly guarded against him.
Liang Feng narrowed his eyes and smiled, saying nothing as he took a sip of the red wine. It was rich, fragrant, and mellow.
He licked his lips, thinking Wen Yan’s flavor must be even more exquisite than the fine wine.
Liang Feng was a patient hunter, possessing the elegance of an English gentleman and the romance of the Danube. He enjoyed adding flair to his pursuits.
He set down the wine glass and casually asked, “Did you tell anyone else when you returned to the country, Yan Yan?”
Here comes the main topic.
Wen Yan lifted her gaze. If Liang Feng hadn’t brought this up soon, her patience would have worn thin.
“Only my younger brother.”
“But he probably informed Steward Li.”
Mentioning the steward who had tried to bully Wen Xiu, a cold smile flickered at the corner of Wen Yan’s lips.
She had her suspicions about Steward Li. After all, he had dared to take advantage of her absence to mistreat his master. If someone hadn’t been behind it, Wen Yan wouldn’t believe it.
Yet, in his confession, he insisted it was a spur-of-the-moment act driven by greed, with no instigation or orders. Without concrete evidence, the police had no choice but to drop the matter.
“Why didn’t you notify me back then? I could have protected you.”
Wen Yan gave him a cold stare, feeling as though she had been deceived into coming here.
This man had been beating around the bush, avoiding the information he knew or the possible suspects, all while pretending to be deeply affectionate, clearly hoping to rekindle their past relationship with ulterior motives.
Ugh.
Whether there even was a past to rekindle was questionable.
“Why should I have notified you?”
Wen Yan set down her fork, the knife in her left hand reflecting a cold, silvery gleam that made Liang Feng’s heart tighten involuntarily.
“What is our relationship?”
Hearing this, Liang Feng wasn’t angered but rather pleased.
Yan Yan still held a grudge against him did that mean she hadn’t forgotten him?
“Yan Yan, I wronged you back then, but I had my reasons.”
“All these years you were abroad, I wrote you so many letters, and you never replied to a single one.”
“Yet I’ve remained faithful to you all this time.”
Wen Yan closed her eyes, feeling a headache coming on, infuriated by this self-righteous scoundrel.
An alpha’s words are a devil’s lies.
She didn’t believe a single word, nor did she want to hear any of it.
“Now that your parents are gone, you and A Xiu, both omegas, are out there struggling to make a living.”
“It truly pains me.”
“Won’t you give me a chance?”
Wen Yan kept her eyes closed, so she didn’t see the playful and scheming look in Liang Feng’s eyes as he spoke these heartfelt words.
He lowered his head again, glancing at his wristwatch, calculating the effects of the catalyst.
That’s right, despite Wen Yan’s utmost vigilance, Liang Feng had still managed to drug her.
He arrived early and applied the medication to Wen Yan’s utensils, cups, and cutlery.
Colorless and odorless, the moisture would evaporate, leaving the drug’s effects behind.
Once absorbed into the body, it would stimulate the glandular organs of an omega. Within half an hour, the omega would be forced into heat.
This type of medication was strictly controlled for medical use.
But for a playboy like Liang Feng, obtaining such a catalyst was no difficult task.
All he had to do was stall for time, then completely devour and mark the beautiful omega.
Liang Feng tugged at his tie, his Adam’s apple bobbing restlessly as he gazed at Wen Yan with an intense, undisguised desire.
Wen Yan caught the invasive stare, frowned, and felt a slight panic, instinctively sensing something was wrong.
She stood up, her legs weak and unsteady, as if her bones had been stripped away.
The physical change sent her heart plummeting.
Wen Yan had seen this kind of scenario before and silently cursed herself, why had she still fallen into the trap despite being so cautious?
Liang Feng immediately stood up and asked with feigned concern, “Are you going to the restroom?”
Wen Yan steadied herself, unwilling to reveal any sign that she had already become trapped prey.
She smiled lightly, enchantingly, and said, “Yes.”
She appeared completely unaffected.
Had the drug not taken effect yet?
Suppressing his doubts, Liang Feng smiled and watched as Wen Yan picked up her bag and left.
He wasn’t in a hurry. The restaurant had only one exit, clearly visible from his position. Moreover, an omega in heat wandering alone into a crowd was like a lamb charging into a pack of wolves only one outcome awaited: being torn apart and tormented to death.
Liang Feng curled his lips into a smirk, confident of his victory. He had already booked a room at the Hilton Hotel downstairs and would soon be holding Wen Yan for a delightful night.
Everything was going according to plan, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit smug. He took out another phone from his pocket and sent a message to that person.
〔The mission is almost complete. Get the payment ready.〕
The reply came quickly.
〔Record a video. Bring the video to exchange.〕
Liang Feng snorted lightly, put away his phone, and leisurely sipped his red wine.
He calculated the time, she should be returning soon.
Wen Yan hid in a restroom stall, propping herself up to keep from collapsing.
Her glands felt slightly warm, and the strength in her limbs was gradually fading.
Wen Yan knew she had been drugged. This was her last moment of clarity, and she had to find a way to escape within these few short minutes.
But how exactly?
Even if she messaged her brother now, by the time he arrived or the police were called, she would likely already have been marked by that scoundrel outside.
Removing a mark was extremely damaging to an omega’s body and could even render them infertile.
Wen Yan gritted her teeth, struggling against the rising heat deep within her. A sense of helpless despair enveloped her, making her chest tight and suffocated.
It seemed there was no way out.
Wen Yan took a deep breath, trying to dispel the resentment and anger in her heart. She took out her phone from her bag, intending to inform her brother to come pick her up as quickly as possible.
If she got marked, she would just go straight to the hospital to have it removed.
It wasn’t a big deal, just treat it as a nightmare.
Wake up, forget it, and it would be over.
What else could she do? Cry and scream, or threaten to die?
Or perhaps like a naive little girl, hoping for a hero to descend from the heavens and save her?
No.
There has never been a hero, nor a naive little girl.
The moment the message was sent, Director Lin’s call popped up on the screen. Wen Yan was momentarily stunned, then overwhelmed by a surge of joy.
For some reason, her eyes reddened, and the tip of her nose tingled with emotion.
Her fingers trembled slightly as she answered the call.
“Where are you? Are you okay?”
“What did he do to you?”
Gu Lin’s voice was urgent, his breathing heavy, as if he were in a state of panic.
Yet, hearing it made her feel exceptionally reassured.
Wen Yan didn’t know why Gu Lin had called, nor how much he knew. She had no time or energy to think about that now. Her instinct for self-preservation drove her to seek help from this person she could trust.
“I’ve been drugged. I’m on the 99th floor of the Empire Building.”
“I’m in the restroom now, and I feel terrible.”
Wen Yan sniffled, suddenly feeling the urge to cry. “I might not be able to hold on much longer.”
Just moments ago, she had already resigned herself to the outcome of being violated, rationally preparing for all possible remedies. But now, hearing Lin Ye’s voice, she felt an overwhelming sense of grievance, a desire to cry, to be weak, to be afraid.
She even felt like acting spoiled, wanting her to hurry over.
To save her, to prevent her from being defiled by that scum.
She wanted Lin Ye to be her savior, her hero, the brave warrior rescuing her from the clutches of the evil dragon.
“Wait for me, Wen Yan.”
“Hold on, I’ll be there in five minutes.”
“Don’t hang up the phone. I’ll stay with you like this.”
“Don’t be afraid. I won’t let that happen.”
“I’ll protect you.”
The witch has been captured by the evil dragon.
The princess is on her way.
