The Omega Pretending to Be an Alpha Was Accidentally Marked by His Boss - Chapter 16
A little over ten minutes later, when Mi Zhu followed the real-time location and arrived at the scenic area next to The Whispering Pines, the distinct, brutal sound of fists repeatedly smashing into flesh echoed from within the darkness.
He didn’t even need to look at his phone anymore; the sequential, agonizing wails served as the perfect beacon.
Recognizing that the screams weren’t coming from Qiu Nan, Mi Zhu breathed a slight sigh of relief. Turning on his phone’s flashlight, he jogged down the narrow path.
But the moment the beam of light illuminated the scene out in the wild, the breath caught in Mi Zhu’s throat, and all traces of relief vanished instantly.
With his back to Mi Zhu, Qiu Nan was straddling a strange Alpha, his fists raining down on the man’s face in a rhythmic, merciless cadence. With every single blow, the man let out a pig-slaughtering shriek, begging for mercy.
The reason Mi Zhu could instantly tell the guy was an Alpha was due to his sheer bulk—as a Beta, Mi Zhu knew no amount of training could yield a physique like that, let alone for an Omega.
Mi Zhu couldn’t fully see Qiu Nan’s face, but he could tell the captain had taken some damage. A stark line of crimson was trickling down from his hairline, tracing past the back of his pale neck and soaking into his collar.
“Qiu’er!”
Shouting at the top of his lungs, Mi Zhu rushed over and aimed the flashlight directly at Qiu Nan’s face. A heavy bruise had formed over his cheekbone, a smear of un-wiped blood stained the corner of his mouth, and there was definitely an injury on his head as well.
Compared to the man on the ground—whose face was swollen into a pig’s head and missing several teeth—Qiu Nan’s injuries might not have been severe.
Yet, his expression was terrifying. His eyes were dead cold, the corners of his mouth pulled down into a grim line, and a savage, lethal intent seemed to radiate from every strand of his hair. It wasn’t hard for Mi Zhu to imagine that if Qiu Nan had a knife in his hand right now, he would have plunged it into the man’s abdomen without hesitation.
Mi Zhu instantly deduced what had happened and exactly why it had gone this far.
To hide his identity as an Omega, Qiu Nan had been under immense psychological pressure. More importantly, during every previous heat cycle, he had used inhibitors to forcibly suppress his biological instincts at the very earliest stage.
Now that his cycle had suddenly been “released from prison” and further provoked by an emergency, it had driven him into a manic state.
To put it plainly, it was a severe hormonal imbalance.
Although Mi Zhu, as a Beta, couldn’t smell pheromones or perceive their presence, he estimated that this entire clearing was probably reeking like a massive mango orchard right now.
Catching Qiu Nan’s wrist before another fist could land, Mi Zhu shook his arm. “Qiu’er! Stop! Stop hitting him!”
“I’m going to beat him to death,” Qiu Nan said blankly, trying to wrench his arm free.
Holding onto him firmly, Mi Zhu let out a soft, reassuring chuckle. “Daddy’s here. Let Daddy beat him to death for you. Come on down and take a break.”
Qiu Nan stared at him for a few seconds before his eyes finally found their focus. Recognizing Mi Zhu, his body suddenly went entirely limp, and he slid off the man, slumping onto the ground.
His breathing was incredibly heavy, and his deeply flushed face made Mi Zhu’s heart ache. Pulling an inhibitor from his pocket, Mi Zhu tore open the packaging and waved it in front of him. “Qiu’er, want me to inject it for you?”
Qiu Nan nodded weakly.
The needle pierced his skin, and the medication coursed through his veins, eventually settling over the burning scent glands at the back of his neck. The scorching, volatile sensation inside Qiu Nan’s body was finally suppressed.
With his rationality restored, he looked at the groaning man on the ground and bit his lip.
This place was a vast expanse of wasteland and woods. No security cameras, no witnesses, absolutely nothing.
But he couldn’t actually commit murder and dispose of a corpse.
“Call the police,” he said to Mi Zhu, his voice tinged with a profound sense of bleakness.
He could already picture exactly what was waiting for him next.
A criminal record for brawling or intentional assault, followed by a massive sum in civil damages.
His identity as an Omega completely exposed, followed by a Bureau-wide criticism notice, and ultimately, dismissal.
Pulling his knees up to his chest, he hugged them tightly. Watching Mi Zhu busily dialing the police, he slowly let his head drop.
In the early hours of the morning, the police station was exceptionally quiet. The middle-aged officer handling the case finished taking the statements, propped his chin in his hand, and began shifting his gaze back and forth between the two parties.
An Omega had beaten an Alpha so badly that the Alpha didn’t even dare to lift his head inside a police station. This was literally material for a top trending social media post!
Both Qiu Nan and the Alpha’s injuries had been given basic medical attention. The facts of the case were clear, and both parties’ oral accounts matched perfectly without dispute. Now, they were simply waiting for sunrise for the forensic medical examiner to assess the injuries.
The middle-aged officer flipped through the case file again and shook his head. He could tell this fierce Omega was in serious trouble.
The Alpha who had harbored wrongful intentions was actually the Vice Chairman of Xiefeng Shares, a publicly listed corporation in the city. Meanwhile, the Omega was merely a researcher at the local Historical Archives. While the
Omega was clearly in the right morally, the moment physical violence was involved, a powerful Alpha like that had the resources to completely flip the narrative upside down.
Qiu Nan had kept his head bowed in absolute silence since finishing his statement. Mi Zhu sat beside him, carefully dabbing away the blood on his neck, feeling a painful mixture of heartache and utter helplessness.
“Qiu’er, does it hurt?” Mi Zhu gently parted Qiu Nan’s hair, peering cautiously at the wound.
During the scuffle, Qiu Nan had taken two punches to the face, and the laceration on his head was caused by hitting a sharp stone on the ground. It wasn’t severe, but Mi Zhu had adamantly insisted on a formal injury assessment—partly out of concern for a concussion, and partly to ensure that bastard Alpha didn’t hold all the legal cards.
Feeling his wound being touched, Qiu Nan tilted his head slightly away, gently lowering Mi Zhu’s hand and shaking his head.
Mi Zhu had never seen Qiu Nan look so utterly defeated, and he knew exactly why.
This incident was absolutely impossible to keep under wraps now!
He shot a venomous glare at the Alpha, who was still sneaking glances at Qiu Nan. The Alpha quickly shrank his neck back.
The man’s face was deformed from the swelling, bruised black and blue, and his eyes were reduced to mere slits. When Qiu Nan had unleashed his fury, he hadn’t given a single thought to leaving any room for retreat.
Qiu Nan suddenly asked quietly, “Did you notify the Bureau?”
Mi Zhu looked conflicted. “A matter like this, how do I even bring it up? I didn’t even dare to call Old Lan to ask for a leave of absence. Let’s keep it hidden for as long as we possibly can.”
At the agonizing thought of Xie Yunnian finding out that he had gone into heat in the wilderness last night and made an absolute fool of himself, Qiu Nan’s head dropped even lower.
Mi Zhu felt as though Qiu Nan—who usually stood proud and unyielding like a delicate flower braving the winter snow—had been struck by a massive hailstorm overnight, completely flattening his spirit.
Once the sun rose, the two of them were escorted to the designated hospital by the medical examiner. When the results came back, the middle-aged officer looked at the assessment report and sighed, shaking his head helplessly.
Having been a cop for so many years, he had seen more than his fair share of cases where the line between black and white was completely distorted.
Pulling Qiu Nan to the side, he lowered his voice to warn him, “Your injuries are strictly superficial; there’s no concussion. As it stands, it doesn’t even qualify as a minor injury. On the other hand, you knocked several of his teeth out. He has every ground to sue you for intentional assault.”
Qiu Nan nodded calmly. “Understood. Then I will counter-sue him for attempted sexual assault.”
Mi Zhu: “!”
It was clear as day now: Qiu’er really wasn’t planning on leaving himself any way out this time!
Aside from criminal liability, intentional assault would inevitably incur mandatory civil compensation.
Qiu Nan figured that since his job at the Control Bureau was as good as gone anyway, it was far more practical to protect the remaining balance in his bank account. As for whatever future rumors might spread—like “Captain Qiu is actually an Omega and almost got sexually assaulted by a passerby”—he simply didn’t care anymore.
The middle-aged officer noted down his stance, then added, “Since you work at the Historical Archives, you are considered a public servant. We are legally required to notify your direct supervisor to come down to the station.”
Qiu Nan fell silent. He gestured toward the Alpha, who had finally straightened his spine, and asked, “What about him?”
The officer replied, “He works for a private enterprise, so notifying his company isn’t mandatory. Besides, he is the executive management.”
Qiu Nan: “Oh.”
Son of a bitch.
