The Omega Pretending to Be an Alpha Was Accidentally Marked by His Boss - Chapter 17
Early this morning, the atmospheric pressure inside the Monster Control Bureau was remarkably low.
Director Xie, who had been mingling seamlessly with everyone at the drinking tables just last night, now wore a face so dark it looked as if someone owed him millions.
This was all because Lan Mingliang had reported that Squad Four’s Qiu Nan and Mi Zhu were absent without leave—and neither of them had submitted a time-off request.
Xie Yunnian had barely slept a wink the previous night.
Qiu Nan’s pitiful, vulnerable state inside the car and the lingering image of his retreating back kept forcing their way into his mind uncontrollably.
This was likely the very first time the young master of the Xie family had ever experienced a tossed-and-turned, sleepless night. Not only was he incredibly irritable, but he was also sporting a pair of subtle dark circles under his eyes.
Tracing the lingering teeth marks on his arm through his shirt fabric, he stared blankly at a stack of documents on his desk.
Why didn’t he come to work?
Why didn’t Mi Zhu come to work either?
And why did neither of them ask for leave?
If anyone tried to claim those two weren’t together last night, no one would believe it!
Xie Yunnian had assumed his warning yesterday would have some sort of deterrent effect, but he never expected it to achieve the exact opposite result.
Did I seriously just play matchmaker for someone else?
Frustrated, Xie Yunnian tossed the pen in his hand onto the desk, but his phone rang at that exact moment.
Two minutes later, Chen Minhan, who was monitoring the B1 main hall, watched the Director storm out of his office. He was throwing on his jacket with one hand while violently slamming the office door shut with the other.
His face was so incredibly dark it looked as if a bolt of lightning might strike him down at any given second.
Chen Minhan stuck out his tongue. The moment the Director stepped into the elevator, he frantically pulled out his phone to text Qiu Nan on WeChat.
Minhan: Qiu’er, why aren’t you at your station yet?
Minhan: Don’t say your bro didn’t warn you. Be careful when you walk in, the Director just went up!
Minhan: The Director looks absolutely terrifying right now!
Minhan: By the looks of it, a corpse is guaranteed by the end of the day!
Minhan: Why aren’t you replying?
Looking at the string of messages flashing across his screen, Qiu Nan closed it with a heavy sense of gloom.
It was true; a corpse was definitely guaranteed today, and it was going to be his own.
To be perfectly honest, he didn’t want to face Xie Yunnian at all. For one, getting wrapped up in an incident like this was deeply embarrassing. Furthermore, back in the car last night, the man had clearly harbored improper intentions toward him!
A Director who seemed so sanctimonious and upright on the surface turned wicked and shameless the moment they were behind closed doors? Was this really just the biological influence of the permanent mark?
I’m exhausted. Let the world burn.
The call Xie Yunnian had received was from the middle-aged police officer. The officer hadn’t gone into details over the phone, merely confirming whether he was the person-in-charge of the Historical Archives before informing him that their researcher, Qiu Nan, had gotten into a street fight last night and was currently at the station.
And that he was injured.
With only those last three words echoing in his brain, Xie Yunnian drove his luxury vehicle like an F1 racer, tearing all the way to the police station.
Unsurprisingly, he found Mi Zhu waiting right by Qiu Nan’s side.
Seeing that Qiu Nan himself hadn’t sustained any catastrophic damage, a massive weight finally lifted from Xie Yunnian’s chest. However, his expression darkened severely the moment his eyes caught the abrasion over the younger man’s cheekbone.
Qiu Nan darted a quick glance at him before dropping his head, acting exactly like an ostrich wishing it could bury itself entirely beneath the chair.
Seeing the dynamic, Mi Zhu pulled Xie Yunnian to the side and recounted the entire sequence of events from start to finish. He then watched as the Director shot a piercing glare toward the Alpha on the other side of the room, causing the man to shudder instantly.
Meanwhile, Qiu Nan let out a sudden sneeze.
Mi Zhu immediately deduced that the Director was letting his pheromones bleed out, and right now, they signaled pure, unadulterated fury.
The opposing Alpha was glaringly weak. Despite his wall of muscles, he was entirely hollow on the inside; he couldn’t even overpower Qiu Nan in a manic Omega state, let alone the Director, whose pheromones were rumored to be completely unrivaled when unleashed!
Mi Zhu found the Director’s reaction incredibly fascinating. Based on his previous assessment of the relationship between the two, he promptly extracted himself from his role in the main cast, transforming into a spectator ready to watch the drama unfold.
The middle-aged officer gave a soft cough, offering a polite reminder. “Director Xie, is it? Can we keep things civil? Strictly speaking, releasing pheromones inside the precinct is not permitted.”
He was an Alpha himself, and even with the backing of his shield and uniform, he currently felt heavily stifled and oppressed by the man’s sheer presence.
“My apologies,” Xie Yunnian murmured quietly, reining back the intimidation factor. “So, what exactly is the issue with my subordinate?”
“He assaulted someone and caused injuries.”
“Why did he resort to violence?”
“He was defending himself.”
“Then what is the issue?”
Confronting this aggressive supervisor with such a powerful Alpha aura, the middle-aged officer felt a bit daunted himself. Besides, he also thought this entire situation was deeply messed up.
Putting his duties as a cop aside, a piece of trash who tried to take advantage of someone in vulnerability deserved to be beaten to a pulp!
But his hands were tied; the law was the law.
“The issue is that your subordinate released a massive amount of pheromones first, and then inflicted severe physical trauma on the other party.”
“What do the Omega Protection Laws dictate on this matter?”
“The other party’s actions didn’t result in substantive harm, so.”
“So, a closet rapist should just be let off the hook like that?”
The officer shook his head helplessly. “This is the reality of the system. Your accusation lacks supporting evidence, whereas the victim over there intends to press charges against your subordinate for intentional assault.”
“Get your facts straight. The victim is sitting right here!” Xie Yunnian spun around, pointing directly at Qiu Nan, who had looked small, pitiful, and helpless ever since the Director stepped through the door.
Finding himself suddenly thrust into the spotlight, Qiu Nan’s fingertips trembled slightly as he bit his lower lip.
The officer was quite amazed by the dramatic shift in Qiu Nan’s aura. At the same time, it clicked in his mind that this supervisor hadn’t come down to clean up a mess—he had come to act as absolute muscle.
Closing his mouth, the officer turned his eyes toward the Alpha with the pig-head face, as if saying: You two figure it out yourselves.
The pig-head had been listening to the exchange for a while. Initially, he assumed the law was entirely on his side, so seeing the tables turn, he instantly snapped.
He feared the Alpha aura radiating from the man in front of him, but with the police stationed right here, he felt emboldened.
He shouted at Xie Yunnian, “What the hell do you mean by that? I got beaten into this state, and I’m just supposed to take it lying down?”
Xie Yunnian offered a rare, mocking smirk. “Yes. You take it lying down.”
In fact, he felt like shouting, “Beautifully handled.”
The pig-head could hardly believe a public sector official could act like this. Aren’t supervisors supposed to smooth things over, reprimand their subordinates, and act as peacemakers to sweep things under the rug?
Forcing his swollen eyes open, he roared in fury, “Do you have any idea who I am? Why don’t you go ask around and see just how many shares I hold in Xiefeng Shares! Our corporation is a leading enterprise in this city! I want to call my lawyer!”
“Xiefeng Shares,” Xie Yunnian nodded calmly. “Impressive. In that case, an executive of such a prestigious corporation like yourself probably isn’t worried about any reputational damage.”
The pig-head faltered for a second, then let out a cold sneer. “Reputation? That little slut claims I tried to assault him, but where’s the proof? I was literally just out for a night run! If anyone’s reputation is getting ruined, it sure as hell won’t be mine!”
Hearing those words, Qiu Nan’s entire body went rigid. His fair complexion flushed a violent crimson as his fists clenched tight.
Before he could even stand up, Xie Yunnian’s large, warm hand clamped down firmly on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
Qiu Nan’s body stiffened, his fists slowly unraveling as he sat back down in silence.
He figured Xie Yunnian was trying to comfort him.
Thanks, but I don’t feel comforted at all.
Whatever, I’ve already lost enough face. I can’t afford to make an even bigger fool of myself.
I’m leaving the Bureau anyway, might as well leave a decent impression.
“What did you just call him?”
He heard Xie Yunnian’s voice drop into a tone laced with absolute ice. Immediately following it, an aggressive, overpowering wave of green pine enveloped the space.
Qiu Nan let out another sharp sneeze.
The pressure practically pinned the pig-head’s skull down, making it hard for him to even lift his neck. But since he had already dug his heels in, he forced himself to talk tough: “It’s the middle of the night and he’s out alone giving off heat. If he isn’t a little slut, what is he? You’re blaming others for noticing? Do you have any idea how rancid the smell was? Who the fuck could hold back?”
Xie Yunnian glanced at the tips of Qiu Nan’s ears, which were burning a violent red. He lifted his hand off his shoulder and entirely dialed back his pheromones.
The pig-head’s crude words had served as a warning. He shouldn’t recklessly release his scent; Qiu Nan’s current state was unstable, and he couldn’t risk triggering another heat spike.
He decided to resolve this issue through alternative channels.
He had plenty of methods.
Initially, he wanted to afford the man an opportunity to offer a proper apology. Now, it seemed completely unnecessary.
Pulling out his phone, he dialed a number.
“Uncle.”
“It’s not early, it’s already past nine.”
“Of course I have a reason. I need a favor.”
“Xiefeng Shares. Go ahead and acquire it.”
“Yes, it’s publicly listed.”
