The Omega Pretending to Be an Alpha Was Accidentally Marked by His Boss - Chapter 15
The villa district where Xie Yunnian lived was massive. Stumbling along the dimly lit internal roads, it took Qiu Nan a long time to finally locate the main gates. Under the security guard’s intensely suspicious glare—as if keeping tabs on a thief—Qiu Nan kept his head down and walked out onto the wooden pedestrian boardwalk.
Walking out of an upscale estate alone in the dead of night, looking thoroughly disheveled and unfamiliar, was admittedly highly suspicious.
Qiu Nan glanced back. The massive plaque supported by coiled-dragon pillars at the entrance read: The Whispering Pines.
It was the most luxurious, classic-style villa district in the city, nestled in the western suburbs. As for the price, he didn’t even bother to ask.
He couldn’t afford to live here anyway.
Qiu Nan sniffled, wrapping his jacket tighter against the night breeze as a lingering chill washed through his body.
Having used every ounce of his strength to fight off his physical instincts in the car, he felt utterly depleted now, like he was right on the verge of collapsing. He desperately needed to find a place to rest.
The area was quite remote, and the main road was dead quiet, save for the occasional car passing by with its high beams cutting through the dark. The roadside landscaping was lush, with benches placed intermittently between thickets of greenery for pedestrians to rest. Qiu Nan found the nearest one and slumped onto it.
He curled his body inward.
The initial chills were fading, replaced by a temperature that was steadily beginning to climb.
Exhaling a breath that felt significantly hotter than usual, he realized that under Xie Yunnian’s relentless teasing, he had accidentally tripped into his heat cycle.
An Omega in heat, walking alone down a deserted road at night, was no different from a walking piece of raw meat.
Qiu Nan frantically fumbled through his pockets for his backup inhibitors, only to come up entirely empty.
Only then did it hit him—back at Jinyan Pavilion, he had given his entire emergency kit to that poor guy who had suddenly differentiated. Now that he needed it himself, he had absolutely nothing left.
Talk about a comedy of errors. Misfortune had literally knocked on his door, moved in, and made itself at home.
Pulling out his phone, he dialed Mi Zhu’s number. In times like this, he could only rely on his best bro.
He briefly explained the situation, omitting the part where a drunk Director Xie had put his hands all over him. He turned on real-time location sharing and asked Mi Zhu to rush over with an inhibitor shot.
Mi Zhu had already gone to bed. Upon receiving the call, he scrambled up without a second thought, threw on his clothes, stopped by a 24-hour pharmacy to buy the inhibitor, called a cab, and rushed over in a frenzy—the absolute definition of a dedicated, reliable tool of a friend.
Qiu Nan knew that no matter how fast Mi Zhu moved, it would take him at least half an hour to arrive.
He reached up to touch the scent glands at the back of his neck. They were slightly swollen and burning hot.
He didn’t think he could last another thirty minutes.
His mango-scented pheromones were beginning to leak out uncontrollably. While this area was remote, people still passed by on occasion.
Glancing toward the woods behind the bench, he couldn’t see much in the pitch black, but the silhouette of a scenic pavilion was barely visible. Qiu Nan decided to relocate and wait for Mi Zhu in there, out of sight from anyone else.
Stepping along the narrow cobblestone path, he confirmed there was indeed a pavilion. It was completely dark inside without a single night light, indicating that no one ever came here.
Turning on his phone’s flashlight, he sat down on a stone stool, propping his elbows on the stone table to bury his face in his hands.
His face was burning up now, and his entire body felt flushed. His mind was growing hazy and sluggish. The desire he had suppressed deep in his heart for far too long had lost its shackles, threatening to erupt completely.
It was excruciating.
Qiu Nan pinched his own arm hard, forcing himself to stay lucid.
Suddenly, the sound of approaching footsteps caught his attention.
He was incredibly familiar with Mi Zhu’s stride—and this definitely wasn’t Mi Zhu.
Forcing his head up, his sharp gaze locked onto the intruder.
A figure slowly materialized from the shadows, stopping just within the perimeter of the flashlight’s glow. The man let out a disdainful scoff, and immediately after, the sharp scent of alfalfa filled the air.
It was the pheromone scent of a strange Alpha.
The man was heavily built with a rugged, thuggish face, wearing a tank top and shorts. His skin was slick with sweat; it looked like he had been out for a night run and had tracked the scent straight here.
Qiu Nan clenched his fists and glared at him, his thumb digging fiercely into the knuckle of his index finger, carving a deep, crescent-shaped bloody imprint into the skin. It was the only way he could maintain a shred of clarity.
He asked in a low, dangerous voice, “Can I help you?”
“I suddenly caught the scent of an Omega. A little Omega in heat, hiding out so far off the beaten path, hm? Taken already? Are you waiting for your Alpha?” The man ogled Qiu Nan shamelessly, licking his lips with a menacing grin.
“Your pheromones are leaking pretty hard. How long have you been waiting? Sounds like your guy doesn’t care about you all that much. Mmm, mango scent. That’s a rare one! Even if I can’t permanently mark you, we can still have plenty of fun doing other things!”
Despite the barrage of vile nonsense, Qiu Nan merely gave him a casual sweep, his gaze lingering on the man’s bulging chest muscles for two seconds before coldly spitting out two words: “Beat it.”
The man took two insolent steps forward, leaning in suggestively. “Come on, baby, aren’t you miserable right now? There’s no one else around. Why don’t we just make do?”
The stench of alfalfa grew heavier, making Qiu Nan feel utterly nauseous.
Because he had his own Alpha, his scent glands wouldn’t offer any biological response to another Alpha’s pheromones. However, since he had entered his heat cycle naturally, a strange Alpha could still find a way to take advantage of his physical vulnerability.
“Are you fucking illiterate or just brain-dead?” Qiu Nan’s tone dripped with biting sarcasm. “You already know I have an Alpha, yet you’re still fucking looking for trouble. Do I look like I want to entertain you? Aren’t you afraid my Alpha will come show up and peel off your skull?”
The man began to closely inspect Qiu Nan’s face. “You look this good, and you’ve got a wild streak to boot? I like it!”
“Have you never fucking spent time in a cell before? Do you think the Omega Protection Laws are just for decoration?” Qiu Nan cycled through different threats, hoping the bastard would just lose his nerve and screw off.
The man burst into a loud laugh, taking two more steps forward while gesturing with his chin toward the surrounding darkness.
Sprawling wastelands and thick woods. No security cameras, no witnesses, absolutely nothing.
The hairs on the back of Qiu Nan’s neck stood up. He realized this guy might actually be crazy enough to commit murder.
Up close, he realized the man was exceptionally built.
Alphas were already naturally stronger than Omegas, and this guy looked like he practically lived in a gym. He was monstrously sturdy.
Qiu Nan propped his hands against the stone table and stood up. He had always despised being looked down upon by others.
The heat was making him dizzy, his legs felt like jelly, and his entire body felt as though it were sinking into a thick layer of clouds, unable to break free from the suffocating, sluggish warmth.
He glanced at his watch.
Only twelve minutes had passed since he contacted Mi Zhu.
Looks like he would have to handle this on his own.
He cracked his knuckles, the distinct, sharp pop of his joints causing the man across from him to raise an eyebrow in amusement.
“Oh? Didn’t see that coming!”
The guy seemed to grow even more excited, even flicking his scarlet tongue over his lips, making Qiu Nan’s brow furrow in disgust.
A sudden surge of furious rage boiled up in his chest.
This is all Xie Yunnian’s fault!
If he hadn’t thrown that stupid victory banquet, why would anyone have pushed me to drink?
If I hadn’t been pushed to drink, why would I have fled to the rooftop terrace?
If I hadn’t fled to the rooftop terrace, why would I have run into an Omega going through a forced differentiation?
If I hadn’t run into that Omega, why would I have given him my inhibitor shot?
If I hadn’t given him my shot, why would I be stuck here without one?
And if I weren’t stuck here without one, why would my pheromones be leaking out, attracting this absolute pervert?
Bottom line: it’s all Xie Yunnian’s fault!
In his towering rage, Qiu Nan completely overlooked the massive leap in his logic. He lifted his chin, staring fearlessly into the predator’s greedy, calculated eyes.
The man faltered for a fraction of a second, a sudden trace of uncertainty flickering through his gaze.
It was almost as if.
He thought he was a hungry wolf cornering a sheep.
But the Omega standing before him looked like an absolute beast ready to rip his throat out.
