The Omega Pretending to Be an Alpha Was Accidentally Marked by His Boss - Chapter 14
The temperature inside the gently swaying car steadily climbed. The crisp, clean scent of green pine tangled with the sweet aroma of mangoes, completely packing the cramped space.
A wave of goosebumps broke out across Qiu Nan’s back, and his hair practically stood on end. In a panic, he shoved hard against Xie Yunnian’s chest.
He didn’t budge.
Xie Yunnian held him in a iron-tight grip. Just as Qiu Nan gathered his strength to push back again, the Director spoke, his voice low and raspy as a faint breath of alcohol brushed past his nose: “Don’t move.”
The words carried an absolute warning.
Qiu Nan’s body froze. “Director, you’re drunk.”
“I’m not.” Xie Yunnian paused for a few seconds, the corners of his mouth curving into a sly smirk. “From now on, you’re not allowed to get that close to Mi Zhu. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you learn the consequences.”
He hadn’t forgotten for a single second. Just this afternoon at the Bureau, those two had been all over each other, hugging and laughing, and Mi Zhu had even told his little Omega, “I love you, Qiu’er.”
A perfectly ordinary Beta, daring to harbor designs on an Omega that belonged exclusively to him, Xie Yunnian? In what world?
Qiu Nan was utterly stunned, his eyes staring blankly out the window at the flashing lights outside.
“Me and Mi Zhu?” He couldn’t wrap his head around it. “What consequences?”
“Tomorrow, the whole world will know you’re an Omega.”
Xie Yunnian softly repeated the very threat he had used before, reminding Qiu Nan of a brutal reality—the Director still held all the leverage.
Qiu Nan’s mind went entirely into disarray.
Didn’t he say he wouldn’t pursue this? So, this matter actually isn’t over?
He squirmed his shoulders in resistance, desperately trying to break free from the embrace. “Di— Director, I.”
Xie Yunnian wore a wicked grin that Qiu Nan couldn’t see, firmly resting his chin on the younger man’s shoulder to pin him in place.
Searing, hot breaths fell rhythmically against Qiu Nan’s icy neck, causing him to shrink away in reflex. He could smell the pine scent growing heavier, nearly swallowing the mango aroma whole.
His thoughts were in complete chaos. He could tell that things were about to spiral out of control at any moment.
Suddenly, his mind flashed to the hospital, then to the blunt warnings of the chubby chief physician, and finally to the overwhelming sensation of being marked for the very first time. Everything was eating away at his nerves, causing his body to tremble uncontrollably.
“No.” He didn’t want to shake. He despised himself internally for being so spineless, yet he couldn’t control his body’s primal, instinctual response.
Xie Yunnian greedily inhaled the faint mango scent emanating from the back of Qiu Nan’s neck. But when he noticed the body in his arms growing unusually cold and shivering from time to time, his eyes narrowed.
His Omega wasn’t being enticed by him at all.
Then, the realization struck him—Qiu Nan was subconsciously fighting off his own impending heat.
Qiu Nan’s hands were tightly clenched together, his breathing ragged and restrained as it hitched near Xie Yunnian’s ear. His body recoiled from him the way one would shudder away from a brutal winter chill, looking entirely pitiful.
Xie Yunnian’s movements came to a sudden halt. He could hardly believe that his proud, irresistible Alpha pheromones had actually failed.
He rarely put his personal charms on display for anyone.
Whenever people looked at him, their eyes were inevitably clouded with underlying motives. Regardless of gender, those superficial, transactional interactions thoroughly disgusted him. To put it bluntly, he couldn’t care less about any of them.
This was the very first time he had ever released his pheromones to actively seduce an Omega—an Omega that belonged solely to him.
And yet, he had actually failed?
Did they really have a 99% compatibility rate?
Xie Yunnian began to seriously question his personal charm score.
However, he could clearly feel that Qiu Nan was terrified.
The fierce Captain Qiu, who remained cool and collected when staring down monsters and who willingly dove to the brink of death to save a teammate, was currently terrified of him.
“Di— Director.”
The slurred, breathless whisper seeped softly into Xie Yunnian’s heart, scratching at it like a kitten’s claws. The playful, teasing mood instantly vanished, replaced by a surge of raw desire.
His warm lips hovered back and forth just above the nape of Qiu Nan’s neck, his nostrils flaring as he took in the scent, yet he forced himself to hold back from actually touching the scent glands.
When he had initially given Qiu Nan that permanent mark, he had been immensely confident in his own self-control. He genuinely believed he wouldn’t actually develop feelings for an Omega over an arbitrary permanent mark, even if an Alpha’s possessiveness over a marked Omega was hardwired into their biology.
He, Xie Yunnian, had seen and survived everything. How could an Omega who wasn’t even remarkably striking or his usual type truly steal his soul away?
It was just a mark. Once it was surgically removed, nothing would remain.
But this afternoon, watching through the window blinds as that guy named Mi Zhu fed Qiu Nan snacks and played around with him without a care in the world, even though he knew they were just joking, it had still driven him absolutely insane with rage.
Only then did Xie Yunnian realize that something had spun completely out of control. He couldn’t resist the natural laws of attraction; he had fallen hard.
He had only one singular thought: Qiu Nan’s scent glands already belonged to him, and he wanted his entire body, even his entire heart, to be his as well.
No one else was allowed to touch him.
But he wouldn’t force him into anything anymore. He would be a patient hunter, waiting for this stubborn little creature to wander into his trap, step by step.
The hovering, warm breath was somehow even more excruciating to endure than a direct touch. Qiu Nan suddenly grabbed Xie Yunnian’s arm, his slightly flushed fingertips pressing small indentations into the firm muscle.
His breathing grew heavier. Suddenly burying his forehead against Xie Yunnian’s shoulder, he let his welling tears soak directly into the crisp white shirt.
He was right on the verge of a breakdown. He utterly loathed this feeling of losing control over himself.
At the thought, a deeply aggrieved, pathetic whimper escaped his throat.
Xie Yunnian’s heart twitched at the sound. Let out a silent sigh, he patted the younger man’s back in a soothing gesture, holding the position in silence for a few seconds as a wave of frustration washed over him.
I just wanted to tease him a little, how did it turn into this?
Hardening his resolve, he began to straighten his body to release him.
The moment he moved, Qiu Nan jolted violently and bit down hard on his arm.
His teeth were remarkably sharp. The sudden, fierce bite caused Xie Yunnian to instantly hiss in pain.
He looked down at Qiu Nan in sheer shock.
The younger man’s eyes were bloodshot, damp strands of hair clung to his sweaty forehead, and he was clamping down fiercely on the flesh of his arm like a cornered pup.
But it was glaringly obvious that his consciousness was completely blurred right now.
Why on earth is his stress response so bizarre?
The puzzled thought flashed through his mind, but pushing past the stinging pain, Xie Yunnian gently tapped his cheek, signaling him to let go.
Yet Qiu Nan refused to loosen his jaw, completely unresponsive to the gesture. It was as if his body had automatically booted up some sort of deep-seated defense mechanism.
Xie Yunnian realized he had pushed the joke entirely too far today.
Completely locking down his pheromones, he reached over to roll down the window, allowing fresh air to circulate through the cabin. He shifted into a far less aggressive posture, creating a safe distance between them, before gently reaching out to stroke Qiu Nan’s soft hair. He then lightly rubbed his rounded earlobe, his voice dropping into a tender, soothing tone.
“Alright, it’s over now. Let go of me.”
No response.
“We’re home.”
Still no response.
“Captain Qiu?”
The moment he heard the title, a spark of clarity seemed to flash through Qiu Nan’s eyes, and he finally released his grip.
The car came to a smooth, steady halt by the curb. Qiu Nan instinctively peered out the window, only to find that they had parked inside an incredibly luxurious villa district. The sprawling estates were separated by distances meant to offer the owners absolute privacy—a detail that currently made Qiu Nan feel profoundly unsafe.
It was precisely the kind of distance where, if anything actually happened, no one would hear him even if he screamed his lungs out.
The moment that thought flashed through his mind, he flung the car door open, leaped out, and turned to march straight back down the road they had come from.
However, he still hadn’t fully recovered from the overwhelming sensory state he was just in; his footsteps were uneven and unsteady as he walked.
Xie Yunnian froze, completely caught off guard that the younger man would just bolt like this.
Hurrying out of the car, he gave chase and grabbed him by the arm. “Qiu Nan!”
Qiu Nan stumbled from the sudden tug. As he lifted his eyes, they crashed right into Xie Yunnian’s gaze—which was now filled with a mix of deep worry and regret. A sudden wave of daze washed over him.
This was the very first time Xie Yunnian had called him directly by his name.
That kind of tone, that kind of look?
Qiu Nan shook his head hard, firmly believing that his mind was still playing tricks on him and that he wasn’t lucid enough.
Using every ounce of strength he could muster, he ripped his hand out of Xie Yunnian’s grip. A cold, distant look—one reserved strictly for strangers—swept across his face as he stared at the Director.
“Please get some rest, Director!”
Sensing Qiu Nan’s desperate urge to distance himself, Xie Yunnian’s lips parted, but in the end, he only managed to say, “I’ll have the chauffeur drive you back.”
“No need. I’ll hail a cab out on the main road,” Qiu Nan snapped irritably. Without looking back a single time, he ran off into the night.
He made up his mind right then and there: first thing tomorrow, he was going to get this permanent mark surgically removed!
