The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 7
After the dinner party, everyone except for Mu Qing and Feng Xi had a bit too much to drink. After avoiding the crowd reeking of alcohol, Mu Qing and Feng Xi finally had some time alone.
“CEO Mu, thank you for what you did last time,” Feng Xi said with a slight blush, trying to suppress her discomfort. “When will you be free? I’d like to return the check to you.”
“Why are you returning the check to me?” Mu Qing asked, a little confused. “That was my compensation to you.”
Feng Xi’s face turned even redder. “I should be thanking you for what you did last time. I’m already so grateful for your help; there’s no way I can accept that money.”
It was her own fault that she had wronged Mu Qing, holding her and semi-forcing her to do those things. No matter how thick-skinned she was, she couldn’t possibly accept money on top of that.
“No, you should take it. I took many liberties with you that night, and the money is what you deserve,” Mu Qing said in a serious tone, not at all embarrassed about what had happened that night. “You were in a special situation at the time, while I was sober. The responsibility lies with me.”
Feng Xi: …
Mu Qing’s words left Feng Xi speechless. She couldn’t very well say, “It was all my fault; it was me who took your hand and did this and that.”
“Thank you again for today, CEO Mu,” Feng Xi said, unsure what else to do, and thanked her once more.
Mu Qing hummed in acknowledgment. “You’re welcome. It was the right thing to do.”
Feng Xi pursed her lips and asked, “Are you free anytime soon, CEO Mu? I’d like to treat you to a meal.”
In Feng Xi’s mind, Mu Qing was not going to take back the million yuan, so she could only find another way to return the money. This would help her finally move on from the incident.
“You want to treat me to dinner, Miss Feng?” Mu Qing mentally reviewed her schedule. “I’m busy this week. How about the weekend after next?”
“Of course, that works. I’ll contact you then.” It was currently Tuesday, which meant she had almost two weeks to pick out a gift—perfect.
When it was time to leave, Mu Qing, ever the gentleman, saw Feng Xi into her car. She stood by and watched the car drive away before heading back to her own vehicle.
“Chen Ning, please clear my schedule for the weekend after next. If any invitations come in, just decline them,” Mu Qing instructed, making a note on her phone.
“Understood, CEO Mu.” Chen Ning opened her notepad and circled the Saturday and Sunday of the following week on her calendar.
Come to think of it, CEO Mu is really quite attentive to this Feng Xi. After two years of working for her, this is the first time she’s seen her do something like this.
Sun Yan sat beside Feng Xi, her expression a mix of hesitation and curiosity. After a long moment of contemplation, she finally spoke. “Feng Xi, how do you know CEO Mu?”
Feng Xi paused before answering, “Um… CEO Mu is the kind person who rescued me at the hotel that night.”
At this, Sun Yan’s expression became strange. “Feng Xi, be honest with me. Did something happen between you and CEO Mu that night?”
“…” Feng Xi sighed and nodded in a self-deprecating manner. “I wasn’t in my right mind at the time, so…”
Sun Yan patted Feng Xi on the shoulder reassuringly. “I can tell CEO Mu is very interested in you. The industry doesn’t really care about gender. If you really like her, I won’t say a word.”
“Yan-jie, you’re overthinking it,” Feng Xi said, a little helpless. “Our relationship is strictly physical—we’re not anything more than that.”
“Not anything more?” Sun Yan was clearly skeptical. After all, Mu Qing had invested 30 million yuan in Feng Xi. Even if Mu Qing was very wealthy, she wouldn’t spend that much money on a stranger.
“It’s really nothing,” Feng Xi insisted. “Even if we had a relationship, it would just be a platonic friendship. A very simple kind of friendship.”
Sun Yan nodded, still half-believing her. “The contract doesn’t require you to be single. If you do get together with someone, you’d better tell me in advance so we’re not caught off guard if it ever gets out.”
“Yan-jie, my relationship with CEO Mu is completely pure,” Feng Xi said, nearly raising her hand to swear it.
Sun Yan nodded. “I believe you. I’m just preparing for the worst.” It looks like I should start preparing some PR strategies just in case. After all, they’ve already had physical contact, so things are probably going to escalate soon.
Feng Xi: …Yan-jie, that doesn’t sound convincing at all. You clearly don’t believe a word I’m saying.
Liu Zhi was a well-known director in the entertainment industry. He generally made a film every couple of years, with some being box office hits and others losing money.
This time, his goal was very clear: to win awards. Many people in the industry were watching his every move.
After seeing Liu Zhi’s unusual behavior—inviting Feng Xi, then sending her away, and finally pleading with her to come back—many people became curious and started to discreetly inquire about what was happening.
When they found out that the new investor was Mu Qing, many were shocked and began to re-evaluate the situation. Feng Xi was known to be a tough cookie, and most investors in the industry knew that many higher-ups in entertainment companies had their eyes on her and were trying to force her to compromise.
Upon learning that Feng Xi had a connection with Mu Qing, many investors started to see Feng Xi in a new light. Several investors with ties to the Mu family quickly retracted their previous statements and even sent her resources as a sign of goodwill.
As more and more scripts arrived, Feng Xi belatedly realized that she owed Mu Qing a lot. She mentally raised the value of her gift from one million to much, much more.
The director of her original production, upon learning that Feng Xi had been cast as the lead in Liu Zhi’s film, became even more polite. To avoid delaying Feng Xi’s schedule, he offered to film her scenes first.
Feng Xi put a lot of effort into every role she played, and her hard work paid off. Even with the accelerated schedule, her acting remained at a very high standard. With an exceptional performance, she finished filming her part in less than ten days.
“Teacher Feng, the last scene is an outdoor shoot, and we plan to save it for last. Could you set aside two days for us then?” the director asked in a consultative tone. “Does that work for you?”
“I shouldn’t have any problem with that. Just let me know in advance, Director,” Feng Xi said politely, still a little unaccustomed to the director’s change in attitude.
Ever since her dinner with Mu Qing, she had noticed that the director and actors in her current production had become much more respectful. She even had directors who she had previously rejected reaching out to her again.
“Then let’s call it a day early and go have a big meal together,” the director announced. “Tonight will be Teacher Feng’s wrap party.”
Since it was her wrap party, Feng Xi had no reason to decline. She joined the group and sat down at a nearby restaurant.
“Teacher Feng, I… I’d like to toast you,” the young female lead said, running over to Feng Xi, her eyes sparkling. “Thank you for all your guidance these past few days.”
Feng Xi patted the young actress on the head. Her demeanor was always warm and friendly towards respectful juniors. “I just gave you a few pointers. You have a lot of talent, so keep working hard.”
“Mmhmm,” the young actress nodded vigorously. She shyly pulled out a pen. “Teacher Feng, could you sign something for me?”
“Of course,” Feng Xi said with a smile, taking the pen. “Where would you like me to sign?”
The young actress blushed and squatted down. “Teacher Feng, could you sign on my back?”
“Huh?” Feng Xi was taken aback. “You want me to sign on your clothes?”
The young actress shook her head and whispered, “I want you to sign on my skin, on my back.”
Hearing the emphasis on the word “back,” Feng Xi instinctively frowned. “This is a permanent marker. Writing on your skin is not good for it.”
“It’s okay. I don’t mind,” the young actress said, her eyes pleading. “Teacher Feng, I really look up to you. Could you please sign it for me?”
Feng Xi capped the pen and handed it back to the young actress. “No, I can’t sign this.”
“Why not?” The young actress looked disappointed. “Teacher Feng, I just want an autograph.”
“A girl’s skin is delicate. It’s not a place for writing,” Feng Xi said, standing up and helping the young actress to her feet. “You’re still young. Don’t do anything you might regret on a whim.”
“But…” the young actress began, wanting to argue.
“That’s enough. I don’t like it when girls get tattoos,” Feng Xi interrupted. As a senior in the industry, she could guess what the young newcomer was thinking.
“Teacher Feng…” The young actress lowered her head after being called out. “I just idolize you so much…”
Feng Xi had won an award for her very first leading role. This was the young actress’s first time playing a female lead, and she thought that if she had Feng Xi’s signature, she might be able to achieve the same success.
“Then listen to me. I don’t have any tattoos, and I still won the award for Best Actress,” Feng Xi said, understanding what the young actress was after. She had noticed during their time on set that the young actress seemed to be under a lot of pressure.
“Give me your hand,” Feng Xi said.
The young actress bit her lip and obediently held out her hand.
Feng Xi took off the bracelet she was wearing, bent down slightly, and placed it on the young actress’s wrist. “This might be more useful than my signature.”
“Teacher Feng…” The young actress’s eyes welled up with tears. “Thank you, Teacher Feng.”
Feng Xi patted her head. “You have to work hard.”
“I will, I will!” The young actress nodded firmly. “I’ll do my best!”
After watching the young actress leave with a kind expression, Feng Xi suddenly froze. She realized something.
She and the young actress had never had any scenes together.
And now that filming was almost over, she still didn’t even know her name…
