The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 8
Liu Zhi was instantly filled with confidence after Mu Qing invested in his film. He used this as a selling point to attract more investors. With the money, Liu Zhi had a new idea. He started working with the screenwriter to refine the script and make it even more perfect.
It was already a done deal that Feng Xi would be the female lead. Liu Zhi didn’t hesitate to sign the contract with Feng Xi. He even made concessions in the contract terms, hoping that Feng Xi would owe him a favor.
Feng Xi wasn’t one to refuse a free benefit. “Director Liu, I heard that Director Hu Kangshi is also involved in the filming?” she asked, taking the opportunity to gather information during the signing.
Liu Zhi nodded generously. “I’m planning to work on the script with Director Hu. If he likes the final version, he might even be our associate director.”
Feng Xi’s eyes widened in surprise. An associate director was a completely different role from a guest advisor. If Hu Kangshi’s name was attached to the film, its nature would change entirely.
“You must have heard that Director Hu is here to cast for his own film. If you’re lucky, you might even get a female lead role in his film after you’re done with mine,” Liu Zhi said with a laugh.
Feng Xi smiled without saying a word, but her eyes showed a determined look.
Feng Xi and Mu Qing had arranged to meet on Sunday noon at a private Western restaurant chosen by Mu Qing.
Feng Xi put the gift she had carefully selected into her bag and checked her makeup one last time in the mirror before leaving, making sure she looked her best.
The great thing about private restaurants was that they respected their customers’ privacy. The waiter recognized Feng Xi but only showed a moment of surprise before dutifully leading her to the private room. Aside from their eager gaze, they didn’t say a word, providing excellent service.
Feng Xi arrived ten minutes early. After waiting for five minutes, Mu Qing walked in.
“Sorry, I’m a little late,” Mu Qing said as she pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Not at all, it’s not even our scheduled time yet,” Feng Xi replied with a smile. She opened the menu on the table. “Do you have any dietary restrictions, Ms. Mu?”
Mu Qing shook her head. “I’m not a picky eater. You can just order whatever you like, Ms. Feng.”
Feng Xi didn’t pretend to be polite and ordered a few standard dishes that most people would enjoy. Then, they began their small talk.
Mu Qing was noticeably warmer toward Feng Xi than she had been at the previous dinner party. They had a pleasant conversation, with Mu Qing answering Feng Xi’s questions one by one.
“Ms. Mu, I saw this while shopping and thought it would suit you perfectly,” Feng Xi said when the atmosphere was just right. She took out the gift she had prepared.
Mu Qing took it and looked at it with some curiosity. “Is this for me?”
“Yes, it’s just a small token of my appreciation,” Feng Xi said with a smile.
After examining the packaging, Mu Qing bluntly asked, “Ms. Feng, may I open it?”
Feng Xi’s smile remained. “Of course. I’ve already given it to you, so you can open it whenever you want.”
Mu Qing didn’t hesitate to tear open the wrapping paper in front of Feng Xi. When she opened the box and saw the gift inside, she froze for a moment before looking up at Feng Xi.
“Ms. Feng, this gift is very expensive,” she said. Inside the box was a limited edition Swiss watch that Mu Qing estimated to be worth around three million yuan.
Feng Xi’s smile deepened. “It’s nothing compared to what you’ve done for me, Ms. Mu.”
Mu Qing raised an eyebrow. “I haven’t done anything for you, Ms. Feng.”
Feng Xi’s face flushed slightly. “Some things you might consider trivial are very important to me.”
Mu Qing tilted her head. “Are you talking about the hotel incident, Ms. Feng?”
This time, Feng Xi’s reaction was much better than the first time Mu Qing brought it up. “Yes. I don’t feel like you took advantage of me. I feel like I did something to put you in a difficult position.”
Mu Qing blinked, as if processing what Feng Xi had said. Since the person involved had said so, the matter was completely settled.
“In that case, I can’t accept your gift, Ms. Feng,” Mu Qing said. She put the watch back in the box, closed the lid, and returned it to Feng Xi. “If you don’t mind what happened that night, I don’t either.”
“But…” Feng Xi blinked, unable to keep up with Mu Qing’s train of thought. “Then I can’t accept the check you gave me either, Ms. Mu.”
Mu Qing’s beautiful eyebrows furrowed. After a moment of thought, she nodded. “You’re right, Ms. Feng.”
Mu Qing put the gift box on the table, took out a pen and a check from her bag, and wrote a check for two million yuan on the spot. She tore it out and handed it to Feng Xi.
“Ms. Feng, you accept your gift, and you accept my check. That way, we’re even,” Mu Qing said seriously.
Feng Xi stared at the check in front of her, unsure what to say. “I can’t accept this. I got to be in Director Liu Zhi’s film because you helped me.”
“Weren’t you the original female lead?” Mu Qing’s expression was very serious. “I’m just giving you back what’s rightfully yours.”
Besides, the original investor, Wang Jiancheng, was gone because of her, so it was only right for her to step in and invest.
“Ms. Mu…” Feng Xi seriously examined the person in front of her. She had been in the entertainment industry for so long that it had been a while since she had seen someone with such pure eyes. Only Mu Qing was willing to do so much for her without any ulterior motives.
“As for the investment, this meal is enough of a thank you, Ms. Feng,” Mu Qing said, forcefully putting the check in Feng Xi’s hand. “Of course, if you really want to repay me, just focus on your acting and make sure my investment doesn’t go to waste.”
Feng Xi accepted the check with a complicated look, wanting to say something but not knowing how.
Honestly, if it weren’t for Mu Qing’s sincere tone and expression, Feng Xi would have thought that Mu Qing had other intentions for her.
But then again, did her body really not attract Mu Qing at all?
“Is there something else, Ms. Feng?” Mu Qing asked.
Feng Xi shook her head. She just suddenly felt a little frustrated. She didn’t know why, but she would feel very resistant when other investors were interested in her, but she felt defeated when she realized Mu Qing wasn’t.
She wasn’t just attractive to men in the industry. Many female executives and celebrities had also shown interest in her. So why did Mu Qing have no feelings for her at all?
“Nothing. I just think you’re a good person, Ms. Mu,” Feng Xi said with a smile, a good person she had “persecuted.”
“Are you friend-zoning me, Ms. Feng?” Mu Qing raised an eyebrow, misinterpreting the meaning. “I didn’t realize you were such a good judge of character.”
“Huh?” Feng Xi blinked, looking confused.
“I admit, after our intimate contact, I developed some different feelings for you, Ms. Feng,” Mu Qing explained. “But since you’ve friend-zoned me, I’ll try to control my feelings and not cause you any trouble.”
“Huh???” Feng Xi was even more confused. “You have… different feelings for me, Ms. Mu?”
“Yes,” Mu Qing admitted bluntly. “I have a crush on you, Ms. Feng. Or rather, I really admire your body.”
It had been a month since the hotel incident, and Mu Qing could still remember the details very clearly. It even replayed in her dreams occasionally.
Mu Qing thought this was very unusual, so she made time to see a psychologist.
The result she got was that she was attracted to that person’s body.
“…” Feng Xi’s face turned even redder. There was no need to say “admire your body.” Wasn’t that just a polite way of saying “I’m lusting after your body?”
“No, I was just expressing my gratitude. I wasn’t friend-zoning you,” Feng Xi said, her mind in a jumble.
Perhaps it was because Mu Qing was just as beautiful as she was. When she heard what Mu Qing said, Feng Xi didn’t feel offended, only shy.
“Really?” Mu Qing’s eyes lit up. “Does that mean you don’t mind that I have a crush on you, Ms. Feng?”
“Well…” Feng Xi blinked, trying to find the right words. “It’s your business to have a crush on someone, Ms. Mu. I can’t interfere.”
Mu Qing nodded, her eyes even brighter. “In that case, Ms. Feng, may I pursue you?”
“Huh?”
“To be honest, I originally planned to end our connection with this meal,” Mu Qing said, clearing her throat. “But I just realized that I seem to like you a little more today than I did yesterday.”
“I’ll have to take back what I said earlier, Ms. Feng. I don’t want to draw a line between us. I want to take our relationship to the next level.”
Mu Qing’s directness caught Feng Xi completely off guard. Holding the check in her hand, Feng Xi was speechless.
What should she do now? Should she accept the check and reject Mu Qing? Or should she return the check, take back her gift, and cut off all ties?
If it were anyone else, Feng Xi wouldn’t have hesitated. She would have flat-out rejected them and returned their things.
But this was Mu Qing, the person she found to be clean and a rare decent person.
Looking up at Mu Qing’s delicate features, Feng Xi had to admit that Mu Qing was very beautiful and had a unique temperament.
When Mu Qing was distant, she seemed unapproachable. But when she was willing to bend down and look at you seriously, she seemed within reach.
