The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 20
Feng Xi couldn’t remember if she had tidied up her bed, but she definitely didn’t have the habit of folding her clothes and placing them at the head of the bed.
When she saw the clothes lying next to her pillow, Feng Xi froze like someone had hit the pause button.
She remembered clearly only one person had entered her room that morning. And if anyone had helped her tidy up, it could only be…
Seeing her underwear neatly placed on top, Feng Xi’s face instantly flushed. If it were unworn, it wouldn’t be a big deal. But the one at the head of the bed was the one she had changed out of yesterday…
After being fed some motivational “chicken soup” by Chen Ning, Mu Qing regained her confidence, feeling that just a little more effort would lead to success.
“President Mu, the program won’t be filming anything tonight, so you can improvise,” Chen Ning said, positioning herself as a strategist.
“But won’t Feng Xi be resting tonight?” Mu Qing asked.
“I checked. The highlight of the show is the mountain hike the day after tomorrow. Filming usually ends around five or six in the evening,” Chen Ning replied. “Even if Feng Xi is health-conscious, she probably won’t sleep that early.”
Mu Qing nodded. After Chen Ning’s analysis, it did seem plausible.
Mu Qing didn’t get a chance to observe the afternoon shoot. Instead, she buried herself in work on her tablet. As the core of a major corporation, it was already a luxury for her to take a few days off.
Once she got into work mode, Mu Qing lost track of time. By the time she finished, the sun had turned into a sunset.
Knock knock a knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. She closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. “Come in.”
“Mu Qing.” Feng Xi opened the door and peeked in. “Have you had dinner?”
“Huh? Dinner?” Mu Qing was surprised. She thought it was Chen Ning.
“Not yet. Chen Ning might have…” gone to get it.
“Do you want to eat the noodles I cooked?”
Mu Qing and Feng Xi spoke at the same time, locking eyes in a brief moment of silence.
“Chen Ning probably already ate,” Mu Qing quickly changed her answer. “Then I’ll trouble you to make me a bowl of noodles.”
Feng Xi smiled. “Sure. I brought the ingredients. Just wait a bit.”
Mu Qing shut her laptop and followed Feng Xi to the kitchen, rolling up her sleeves to help.
“What did you have for dinner?” Mu Qing asked while washing vegetables.
“We made sweet potato porridge,” Feng Xi replied, pouring oil into the pan and cracking an egg once it was hot.
Mu Qing nodded, drained the vegetables, and placed them on the cutting board, wondering how to chop them probably into segments.
Just as Feng Xi finished cooking the noodles, Chen Ning returned with a bag of takeout. Seeing the two busy in the kitchen, she quickly hid the bag behind her and slipped into her room unnoticed.
“Was that Assistant Chen just now?” Feng Xi asked, puzzled. “She seemed to be holding something.”
Mu Qing rinsed the bowl. “Probably. I remember she went out to buy snacks.”
Snacks right after dinner? Feng Xi was confused but didn’t ask further. She took the bowl from Mu Qing, placed the noodles inside, added vegetables, a fried egg, and drizzled sesame oil on top.
“All done. Try it and see how it tastes,” Feng Xi said, placing the bowl on the table and sitting across from Mu Qing.
Mu Qing picked up her chopsticks. The aroma alone was mouthwatering. “It looks delicious.”
“Try it first,” Feng Xi said, watching expectantly.
Mu Qing blew on the noodles for a few seconds before taking a bite. The noodles were springy, and she had to puff her cheeks to fit them all in.
“Mmm, tastes great,” she said with some difficulty.
With her puffed cheeks, Mu Qing looked like a hamster, especially when she tried to speak, which almost made Feng Xi laugh.
“Okay, I get it. Eat slowly,” Feng Xi said, holding back her laughter to maintain her image.
She came here to change Mu Qing’s impression of her she wasn’t lazy. The messy bed was just a small accident.
Mu Qing finished the noodles quickly, and soon only the broth remained.
“Feng Xi, do you have filming tonight?” Mu Qing asked, remembering what Chen Ning had said earlier.
“No filming tonight,” Feng Xi replied. “But tomorrow the crew will be up early for a budget shopping challenge.”
“Want to go for a walk tonight?” Mu Qing asked. Compared to the brief morning grocery trip, the evening offered more time.
“Where to?” Feng Xi asked.
“There’s a park nearby,” Mu Qing said, then reconsidered due to the temperature. “Beyond the park is a mall. I need to buy something. Will you come with me?”
“Sure. I’ve got nothing planned tonight,” Feng Xi agreed.
The mall was close. Mu Qing wrapped a scarf around Feng Xi’s neck, and they both stuffed their hands into their pockets before heading out.
Not long after, they encountered a drunken white man who whistled at them.
Smelling the alcohol, Mu Qing instinctively stepped back and pulled Feng Xi away.
“Mu Qing, you don’t like drinking?” Feng Xi asked, her voice muffled by the scarf.
“Not really,” Mu Qing replied. “I don’t like losing control.”
Feng Xi nodded. That probably meant her first impression on Mu Qing wasn’t great—she had been drunk back then.
“But I don’t mind if my partner drinks occasionally,” Mu Qing added.
Feng Xi understood the hint but wasn’t ready to respond, so she just smiled.
After a five- or six-minute walk, they arrived at the six-story mall. Feng Xi removed her scarf and felt much better.
“What do you want to buy?” Feng Xi asked.
Mu Qing’s gaze lingered on Feng Xi’s neck. “Let’s go to the jewelry store. I want to buy a necklace.”
“You’re not thinking of giving me something, are you?” Feng Xi joked.
“Yes,” Mu Qing replied without hesitation. She hadn’t gotten the chance to spend money on Feng Xi that morning, so she had to make up for it tonight.
Feng Xi paused, a bit helpless. She had only asked casually. “You’re not going to make me choose it myself, are you?”
“If possible, yes. Since it’s for you, you should pick it,” Mu Qing said naturally.
“Mu Qing, you really are something,” Feng Xi said, speechless.
In the entertainment industry, people rarely speak so directly. Feng Xi wasn’t an exception she just stuck to her principles. She could play the game when needed.
Even with He Yanhui, Feng Xi could maintain a superficial friendship when necessary.
“You really are something” was that a compliment?
Mu Qing didn’t catch the nuance and took it literally.
She didn’t think there was anything wrong with buying a necklace. She asked the clerk to bring out the most expensive ones.
“Mu Qing, I can’t accept such a valuable gift,” Feng Xi said.
“Why not?” Mu Qing asked.
“We’re just friends,” Feng Xi explained. “If it’s too expensive, I’ll feel pressured, like I owe you something.”
“But I like you,” Mu Qing said, confused. “Isn’t it normal to spend money on someone you like?”
“It’s fine to spend money on someone you like, but this is too much,” Feng Xi said. “If it were just a few hundred or thousand, I’d accept it. But tens of thousands? I don’t deserve that I haven’t done anything for you.”
Mu Qing thought for a moment. “So you think I’m giving too much?”
“Yes,” Feng Xi nodded.
Mu Qing frowned, pulled out her phone, and handed it to Feng Xi.
“What’s this?” Feng Xi asked, looking at the colorful stock chart.
“This is a company I invested in,” Mu Qing said, pointing to the real-time stock price. “See how much one share is?”
“Fifty-four yuan and thirty-two cents?” Feng Xi read aloud.
“Right.” Mu Qing navigated to her personal holdings. “See how many shares I own?”
“One, two, three…” Feng Xi counted the digits and her jaw dropped. “Fifty-six million shares.”
“I own 5.6% of this company. Just from dividends, I make a lot of money,” Mu Qing said, taking back her phone.
“If a necklace costs 300,000 yuan, I could buy one every day and still not run out of money.”
“So Feng Xi, you don’t need to worry about me spending money.”
