The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 13
Chiang Mai, a city located in northern Thailand, is second only to Bangkok in terms of prosperity and is considered one of Thailand’s most famous tourist destinations.
Late September marks the tail end of summer. Compared to the somewhat stifling weather back home, Chiang Mai feels much more refreshing.
As soon as they got off the plane, the exotic atmosphere hit them head-on. The soft Thai language, the distinctly different clothing styles from back home everything instantly put the five of them into filming mode.
“This is Chiang Mai, Thailand. We’ll be spending four days and three nights here, and during that time, we’ll complete four challenges,” Feng Xi quickly received the mission card from the production team and announced the day’s task right at the airport.
“Challenge One: Earn transportation fare. Your travel budget is tight, so please earn enough money for transportation before sunset, or find another way to reach your destination. If you’re late, you’ll have to solve your accommodation problem on your own. Note: You may not use any cash, credit cards, or similar items you brought with you.”
As soon as Feng Xi finished reading the mission card, Shao Qiushuang squeezed in, “Feng Xi-jie, are we supposed to make money?”
“Seems like it. And the production team didn’t provide any tools to earn money,” Feng Xi replied. “Looks like we’ll have to figure it out ourselves.”
“Can we sell our own stuff?” Le Xiaoxiao raised her hand. “Like the ring I’m wearing it’s pretty valuable.”
“That… might not be a good idea,” Xu Leran rubbed his nose. “We might be better off finding some hourly work. Transportation shouldn’t be too expensive.”
“I’ll check the route first,” Su Xiu pulled out her phone and opened Google Maps. “Our lodging is quite far. If we take taxis, we’ll need two cars, which might cost around 1,000 baht.”
Feng Xi did a quick conversion in her head 1,000 baht is just over 200 RMB. Not too bad.
“So we’re only restricted from using cash and credit cards, right?” Feng Xi confirmed again with the production team.
The executive director thought for a moment and added, “If you exchange your personal items for cash, the production team won’t help you buy them back. We don’t recommend using valuable items to fund your travel.”
In other words, they weren’t prohibited from exchanging personal items for money, but given the circumstances, they’d likely lose money doing so.
“So we can sell things. I’ll do it,” Le Xiaoxiao, who wasn’t short on cash, started to take off her ring, ready to sell it.
“Wait,” Feng Xi stopped her. “How much did you pay for that ring?”
Le Xiaoxiao blinked. “Ah, I think it was over 100,000?”
“…” Feng Xi paused. “No one’s going to randomly spend 100,000 on a ring.”
“What if I give a 20% discount?” Le Xiaoxiao asked tentatively. “Sell it for 100,000?”
“I think we should look for some short-term work. If we each earn 200 baht, that should be enough,” Xu Leran raised his hand. “That shouldn’t be too hard.”
Two hundred baht is less than 100 RMB. No one wanted to admit they couldn’t do it, so they all silently agreed to Xu Leran’s suggestion and split up to earn 200 baht each within two hours.
“I want to go with Feng Xi-jie!” Shao Qiushuang was the first to speak up again, quickly dragging her suitcase to Feng Xi’s side.
Su Xiu squinted over, a hint of unwillingness in her eyes. How did Shao Qiushuang beat her to it again?
“I’ll go solo,” Le Xiaoxiao had no intention of teaming up.
“Su Xiu, shall we go together?” Xu Leran asked, rubbing his nose.
Not wanting to be too scattered, Su Xiu agreed. “Okay, let’s go together.”
“Feng Xi-jie, where do we find work?” After storing their luggage at the airport, Shao Qiushuang clung to Feng Xi’s arm, playing the role of a cheerful sidekick.
“Let’s just walk around and see.” Honestly, Feng Xi had no idea how to make money she was just improvising.
Spotting a relatively quiet shop among the bustling storefronts, Feng Xi quickly made a decision.
“Qiushuang, come with me.” Feng Xi had an idea and began negotiating with the shop owner.
The shop owner was a Thai guy in his early twenties. Since his shop was near the airport, he spoke decent English and even a bit of Chinese.
When he heard that Feng Xi and Shao Qiushuang wanted to help out at his shop, he immediately agreed payment wasn’t even an issue!
He was very easygoing. After a brief conversation, he agreed to split half the profits with Feng Xi and even let them use the shop for the whole day.
The shop sold unique handicrafts. Before Feng Xi and Shao Qiushuang even started promoting, curious passersby began gathering.
“Are you Feng Xi?” Even though it was the off-season for tourism, the airport was still full of Chinese travelers. Surrounded by cameramen and with no attempt to hide their faces, Feng Xi and Shao Qiushuang were quickly recognized.
“Are you buying something?” Feng Xi didn’t answer directly but began promoting the products in Chinese.
Shao Qiushuang added, “If you buy something, you can take a photo with Feng Xi-jie and get her autograph!”
The tourist’s eyes lit up. “How much? I’ll take one!”
“This one’s 300 baht,” Feng Xi said, casually adding 50 baht to the original price.
“So cheap!” The tourist didn’t hesitate and handed over the money. “Here you go!”
It was a rare chance to meet a celebrity up close 300 baht was only about 60 RMB, and it came with a souvenir. Totally worth it!
Feng Xi was very cooperative with the first customer, letting them hold her arm and take a dozen photos.
“I want one too!” One sale led to another. Feng Xi was already well-known in China, and the crowd mentality kicked in. Soon, the stall was packed.
Feng Xi was very professional and treated customers kindly, fulfilling most of their requests.
“Can I hug you?” A bespectacled guy asked excitedly, eyes gleaming. “I’m… I’m your fan!”
A male fan? Shao Qiushuang perked up and stepped forward before Feng Xi could respond.
“Sorry, Feng Xi-jie only takes photos no hugs,” she replied with a smile.
“Why? I saw someone holding her arm!” The guy seemed upset. “Is it because I didn’t pay enough?”
“That’s not the issue,” Shao Qiushuang frowned slightly. Holding hands and hugging aren’t the same, and Feng Xi is a young woman!
“Sir, have you watched any of my shows?” Feng Xi asked politely.
“Shows? Ah, I saw… saw… you in a commercial on TV,” the guy stammered.
Clearly, he wasn’t a real fan just trying to take advantage.
Seeing through his intentions, Shao Qiushuang was annoyed but kept smiling for the camera.
“Sir, if you’re not here for a photo or autograph, please don’t block the way.”
“Yeah, yeah, I want to take a photo with Feng Xi!” another fan chimed in.
Embarrassed and realizing he was outnumbered, the guy backed off.
“Fine, I don’t want it anymore.” If he couldn’t touch her, why spend money?
That incident was just a minor hiccup. Most people were respectful and behaved well during photos.
After an hour, the crowd finally dispersed, and Feng Xi had time to tally the earnings.
The Thai shop owner was fair and gave Feng Xi half the profits as promised.
“Wow, Feng Xi-jie, that’s a lot of money!” Shao Qiushuang turned into a fangirl again. “If we’d known it’d be this easy, we could’ve covered the whole fare ourselves.”
Feng Xi smiled and handed the money to Shao Qiushuang. “Count it.”
“Okay!” Shao Qiushuang carefully counted the bills. “It’s 3,570 baht!”
“Great. Let’s go check on the others,” Feng Xi patted her shoulder and left the shop.
“Got it!” Shao Qiushuang held the money tightly and followed closely behind.
Back at the luggage area, Feng Xi saw Le Xiaoxiao playing on her phone, clearly having returned earlier.
“Feng-senpai,” Le Xiaoxiao put her phone away when she saw Feng Xi.
“Xiaoxiao, you finished the task?” Feng Xi greeted her with a smile.
“Yeah, 200 baht—easy,” Le Xiaoxiao replied casually, though her slightly raised eyebrows betrayed her pride.
Ten minutes later, Su Xiu and Xu Leran returned, panting.
When reporting their earnings, Feng Xi and Shao Qiushuang had the most. Su Xiu and Xu Leran each earned 1,000 baht.
Looking at her own 200 baht, Le Xiaoxiao’s proud expression faded. No wonder they came back late they overachieved.
“Since we were already out earning money, I figured we might as well make more,” Su Xiu said with a smile. “If the production team gives us more tasks later, having money might help.”
Le Xiaoxiao responded with a quiet “mm,” feeling a bit down.
Her dad was right people.
