The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 60
Chapter 60
After delivering Lin Mo to the hotel, Xue Luhe stayed for only a brief moment before leaving again, telling Lin Mo to get some good rest for the night and that they would see each other tomorrow.
Lin Mo felt like she had spent the night guarding an empty room. The next morning, she immediately messaged Xue Luhe, asking where she was and if she could come over, or if Lin Mo should go to her.
After a while, Xue Luhe replied: “How about I have Xu Lu take you out to have some fun?”
Lin Mo felt a pang of disappointment. She knew she shouldn’t be “difficult”—Xue Luhe was squeezing out time for her during a major crisis, which already showed how much she cared—but she couldn’t help the sinking feeling in her chest.
She replied with a single word: “Okay.”
Then she set her phone down, not wanting to look at it anymore, and sluggishly began to pack her things while waiting for Xu Lu.
Lu Ruoruo, knowing Lin Mo was in Thailand, sent a message: “How is it? Are you guys having a romantic date today?”
Lin Mo replied gloomily: “What romance? A romantic date with Xu Lu is more like it. Xue Luhe is too busy; I might not even see her today.”
Lu Ruoruo: “Tsk tsk. How is Xue Luhe ever going to win a wife like this? You really have a good temper; I would’ve been furious. Why not have Xu Lu take you to the duty-free shops? Thailand has some great ones.”
Lin Mo replied: “We’ll see.”
She got herself ready, putting on a long dress she had bought specifically for this trip. She looked at herself in the mirror, pulled out a large bag of cosmetics, stared at it for a long time, then sighed and put it back. She had prepared a specific look… but in the end, she only applied a bit of lipstick.
Knock, knock, knock.
Lin Mo walked listlessly to the door. When she opened it, there stood Xu Lu, dressed in her usual professional suit.
Xu Lu pushed up her glasses. “President Xue asked me to take you out.”
The last tiny spark of hope in Lin Mo’s heart flickered out. She managed a strained smile, grabbed her bag, and followed Xu Lu downstairs. In the parking lot, a white luxury car was parked quietly. Lin Mo sat in the back seat, distracted, but Xu Lu didn’t start the engine.
“Why aren’t we moving?” Lin Mo asked curiously.
“Wait a moment,” Xu Lu replied vaguely.
Lin Mo was confused. She leaned forward to see if Xu Lu was on her phone. Suddenly, a light breeze swept in. The car door opened, and a slender figure quickly slipped inside, sitting right next to Lin Mo.
Lin Mo, who had been staring at Xu Lu, was startled by the sudden shadow. She shrieked, spun around, and saw that beautiful, familiar face smiling at her!
Her heart rate instantly shot up to 180, pounding wildly against her ribs. Her vision blurred slightly; the mix of shock and joy made her tremble.
“You… I thought you weren’t coming!” Lin Mo instinctively jumped back, then immediately lunged forward, leaning half her body against Xue Luhe. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“I thought about it, and I realized I couldn’t neglect you,” Xue Luhe said with a sly smile. A hint of triumph and satisfaction flickered in her eyes; she was clearly pleased with Lin Mo’s reaction.
Lin Mo pouted, pretending not to care. “I could have explored on my own. You just wanted an excuse to take a break. Don’t use ‘neglect’ as an excuse—just say you didn’t want to work!”
Xue Luhe couldn’t help but laugh. She reached out and dotedly pinched the bridge of Lin Mo’s nose. “You’re wrong. I didn’t want a break; I just wanted to see you.”
Such sudden sweet talk… Lin Mo’s ears turned uncontrollably red. She leaned back, flustered, feeling like she was being teased again.
Xu Lu skillfully drove them off, and their journey began. Xue Luhe had evidently planned everything; they visited famous local spots at a comfortable pace. Whenever Lin Mo got tired, she’d rest in the car until she “respawned” for the next attraction.
The places Xue Luhe chose were beautiful and unique but not over-developed. It was very comfortable—few tourists and no annoying hawkers. For lunch, they went to a rooftop restaurant, sitting in soft sofas and tasting local specialties: Tom Yum soup, pineapple fried rice, Thai curry, and sweet-and-spicy cold drinks. Everything was a novelty, and Lin Mo ate with gusto.
After the meal, they went to the observation deck. Below was a vast coastline dotted with tourists, tents, and umbrellas—a perfect tropical postcard. As Lin Mo felt the breeze, she looked down curiously, but her eyes soon began to droop. She was getting sleepy.
Xue Luhe sat silently beside her. When Lin Mo started nodding off, she moved her shoulder over for her to lean on. Lin Mo’s head kept sliding down, so eventually, Xue Luhe had her lie down on the sofa with her head in Xue Luhe’s lap.
While sleeping, Lin Mo’s mouth moved occasionally as if she were talking energetically in her dreams, and her eyelashes fluttered. Xue Luhe found it fascinating. She lightly brushed her finger against Lin Mo’s lips, but the lips parted instead. Xue Luhe retracted her finger, watching carefully for fear of waking her. But Lin Mo remained in a deep sleep, her breathing steady.
Xue Luhe’s lips curled. She began to gently fiddle with Lin Mo’s nose and earlobes. Her movements were feather-light, but she couldn’t seem to stop. Sometimes she just let her fingers linger on the skin, reluctant to leave.
A rich, layered love filled Xue Luhe’s heart. She suddenly felt that for the past twenty-odd years, she had never truly lived—she had never known what real life was. It was as if a veil had been lifted from her eyes. The whole world seemed to hang from Lin Mo’s slightly red earlobe, trembling in the wind.
Xue Luhe wondered why she had ever immersed herself so deeply in scripted roles, trying to experience emotions through fiction. She had once prided herself on living a colorful life through her characters while maintaining a cold, aloof self. Now, with Lin Mo, she realized how naive those ideas were.
When you love someone, the state is indescribable. At its peak, you want to shout from the top of the Himalayas; at its low, you want to bury yourself in the Mariana Trench. The whole world becomes vivid and surging. Xue Luhe realized her previous understanding of love was narrow and pale. Like a blind man describing an elephant by touch, she had only had partial fragments and childish definitions. But now that she could see, the “elephant” was clear.
She placed her finger gently over Lin Mo’s carotid artery. Twice before, she had roughly gripped this fragile neck—the first time to test and control, the second time out of sheer indignation. But now, she only wanted to praise the creator for making something so beautiful and heart-stopping. She only dared to trace the faint pulse in the air with her fingertip, unwilling to touch her for fear of waking the sleeping beauty.
She was willing to be the guardian of this sleeping beauty. No… not a god, just a guardian. A loyal guard.
The sea breeze was gentle, swaying the coconut palms. The sun was warm but not piercing. Xue Luhe slowly closed her eyes, soaking in this rare peace and a deep sleep she hadn’t experienced in days.
The two slept on the terrace until 3:00 PM. When Lin Mo woke up, she was disoriented, feeling as if she were still in her own house. The scene of the sea breeze and lying on Xue Luhe’s lap felt like a dream. She sat up and saw Xue Luhe was still sleeping.
Xue Luhe’s head rested against the sofa, her face tilted up. Her brow was slightly furrowed, yet her lips were turned up—as if she had found something wonderful amidst pain and anxiety. Lin Mo moved quietly, found Xu Lu nearby, and asked for a blanket.
When she turned back, Xue Luhe had opened her eyes. In those dark orbs, Lin Mo’s reflection was quietly captured. It was as if this figure was the only thing in the world worth Xue Luhe’s gaze.
Lin Mo blushed and walked over with a smile. “You’re awake. Are you tired? Should we find a place to rest?”
Xue Luhe rubbed her waist, her expression tightening with a hint of pain. “Let’s just get a room in this hotel. I’ll sleep for a bit.”
Xu Lu, coming over with the blanket, immediately turned around and vanished. She returned as quickly as a gust of wind, handed Lin Mo a room card, muttered “3802,” and disappeared again.
Lin Mo holding the card: ???
Xue Luhe held out her arms on the sofa in a “carry me” gesture, looking pitiful. “I can’t move. The doctor said my leg can’t be pressed on.”
Lin Mo: “…Should I carry you on my back?”
Xue Luhe shook her head, her eyes bright. “Carry me up.”
Lin Mo was helpless against the coquetting beauty. She reached out her short arms to grab the big beauty’s long ones, trying to pull her up. Their bodies pressed together through their clothes. Xue Luhe wrapped her arms around Lin Mo’s neck, leaning most of her weight into Lin Mo’s embrace.
Lin Mo felt the weight, but the warmth and the familiar scent made her happy. It felt like… the joy of a harvest?
Lin Mo pulled her up. Xue Luhe stood straight but didn’t move away; she stayed nestled in Lin Mo’s arms, her head on Lin Mo’s shoulder. Lin Mo pushed her gently. “Hey… aren’t you going to move yourself?”
Xue Luhe let out a soft snort. “Move myself? You… you’re quite indecent.”
Lin Mo was mortified. “Who’s being indecent?! What I said was perfectly normal. Only someone with a dirty mind would take it that way!”
Xue Luhe laughed muffledly, clinging to Lin Mo like a giant koala.
After a while, Lin Mo’s legs were getting tired, and Xue Luhe finally let go. They walked out together. To get to the hotel rooms, they had to pass through the restaurant via a narrow corridor.
Suddenly, a figure flashed into the hallway, heading straight for them. Lin Mo stepped back to let the fashionably dressed woman pass. She suddenly felt the woman looked familiar—then she saw the rose tucked into her hair.
At that moment, the woman with the rose shrieked in delight: “Xue Luhe!”
Lin Mo realized—it was the die-hard fan from the plane! The one who watched obscure Xue Luhe movies. No wonder she recognized her even in a dim hallway.
Xue Luhe replied coldly: “No signatures, no photos.” She tried to walk past.
But the woman grabbed Xue Luhe’s arm, her voice unnervingly excited. “Xue Luhe, don’t you recognize me? I’m Huang Luyin! I played your wife! We worked together two years ago!”
Huang Luyin? Lin Mo noted the name. She didn’t know who she was, but just hearing her words made her a little jealous. But then again, Xue Luhe had been in so many movies—she’d had countless husbands, wives, boyfriends, and girlfriends. If Lin Mo got jealous of every one, she’d never stop.
Huang Luyin held onto Xue Luhe’s wrist firmly, her face full of fanaticism. Her eyes were startlingly bright as she repeated nonsense: “I knew you’d appear again. We are destined from a past life. I’ve waited so long for you, a whole lifetime. I know you’re waiting for me too. Let’s go, let’s leave now…”
Xue Luhe looked at her as if she were insane. She pried Huang Luyin’s hand off, her voice icy. “Perhaps we worked together before, but I don’t know you now. Please stop harassing me.”
Huang Luyin cried out: “How is this harassment?! I’ve always loved you. I wrote you so many letters, sent so many messages on Weibo—don’t you know? But you replied to me in your movies and dramas!”
Lin Mo was stunned.
Xue Luhe didn’t want to talk; she wanted to leave. But her body wasn’t fully recovered, and she needed balance. She couldn’t move quickly enough, and Huang Luyin grabbed her arm again.
“You can’t… you can’t be like this. I love you so much, I know you feel it too…” Huang Luyin began to sob hysterically, looking like she was acting in a drama.
Xue Luhe couldn’t shake her off. Her face darkened with a flash of ferocity. She suddenly spun around, using a grapple move to pin Huang Luyin against the wall. She pressed the woman’s head tight against the surface, squeezing her mouth into an “O” shape.
Like a cold-blooded assassin in a movie, Xue Luhe said expressionlessly: “If you’re sick, go get treatment. Don’t go crazy here!”
Her voice was cold enough to drop icicles. Lin Mo found it a bit novel—how long had it been since she’d heard this emotionless tone? Facing a creep, Xue Luhe was still as ruthless as autumn leaves in a gale.
Xue Luhe loosened her grip slightly and asked coldly: “When I let go, you leave immediately. Understand?”
Huang Luyin nodded frantically. Xue Luhe let go, and Huang Luyin stumbled away. But after a few steps, she turned back and screamed:
“You kissed me! Don’t you dare deny it!”
Lin Mo’s heart thudded. A wave of jealousy washed over her. What the hell? Even a crazy person has kissed Xue Luhe! What about me? I’ve only had symbolic kisses. What a rip-off!
Huang Luyin vanished. Xue Luhe turned back, her tenderness returning instantly. “Let’s go.”
Lin Mo’s mind was filled with the words “You kissed me.” She followed Xue Luhe back to the hotel room in a daze.
Xue Luhe took off her jacket as she walked, then naturally unbuttoned her shirt, sitting on the edge of the bed in just her black lingerie. She seemed unaware of how seductive she looked. She tilted her chin up and looked at Lin Mo. “I’m exhausted and need a nap. If you want to go out, have Xu Lu take you.”
Lin Mo stared at Xue Luhe, the blood rushing to her head. Her mouth seemed to act on its own: “So, that woman really kissed you?”
Xue Luhe froze. She was about to slip under the covers. Her elegant neck and the black straps of her lingerie were incredibly tempting. “Ah… are you jealous?”
“…No!”
“That was for a movie. It was just a light touch.”
“…But, I’m not happy.”
Xue Luhe’s eyes crinkled into a smile. She reached a hand out from the covers, curving her waist slightly, and beckoned with her finger.
“Then what will make you happy?”
Lin Mo licked her lips, her fingers nervously twisting the hem of her clothes.
“I… I want…”
