The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 53
Chapter 53
Xue Luhe hosted the dinner at the same five-star hotel as before. This time, including Qing Jing and Wang Ling, everyone joined the gathering, requiring two private booths to accommodate everyone.
Xue Luhe sat at the head of the table, her wheelchair raised. She picked up her wine glass with a beaming smile and nodded to the group.
A proactive colleague from the coffee shop immediately raised their glass as well, rattling off a series of thank-you notes and wishing Xue Luhe a speedy recovery. After a collective toast, the formalities were over.
Lin Mo sat to Xue Luhe’s left, and Xu Lu sat to her right. Directly across the table were Qing Jing and Wang Ling.
Wang Ling was focused entirely on Qing Jing, shamelessly picking up food and piling it into Qing Jing’s bowl.
Qing Jing, meanwhile, looked like she wanted to take her bowl and bolt. She sat stiffly, instinctively leaning away to avoid any contact with Wang Ling.
“Here, I remember you love chicken wings. Eat this.”
Wang Ling pulled a wing off the honey-glazed chicken and placed it in Qing Jing’s bowl.
Qing Jing picked up her bowl and turned her entire body the other way, ignoring Wang Ling completely.
Wang Ling looked at Qing Jing pitifully, then glanced at the two women at the head of the table, feeling even more aggrieved.
At the main seats, Xue Luhe picked up the other chicken wing and placed it in Lin Mo’s bowl, saying softly:
“You like these. Eat up.”
Lin Mo was busy stuffing a piece of lettuce into her mouth. She took a moment to smile at Xue Luhe:
“Thank you.”
Noticing a plate of foie gras had arrived with only a few pieces, Lin Mo quickly snatched one up and put it in Xue Luhe’s bowl.
“You like this too. Have more.”
The two exchanged food and gazes as if they had created a barrier around themselves, where only the other existed.
The rest of the table watched until they began to feel “salty” with envy, especially Wang Ling.
Xiao Yuan whispered to a colleague:
“Remember last time President Xue hosted, and Lin Mo just walked out? Back then I thought they were almost together, but so much time has passed and they’re still not official. Luckily, they look pretty good today.”
The colleague peeked at the pair and smiled:
“Honestly, Lin Mo has incredible willpower. If a world-class beauty like Xue Luhe—so rich, handsome, and cool—came after me, I’d cave in a heartbeat! Lin Mo is strong to have held out for months…”
Xiao Yuan chuckled:
“Maybe people like President Xue just enjoy the challenge. But Lin Mo’s personality really does match President Xue well. I’m actually starting to ship them.”
The colleague frowned slightly and muttered:
“Speaking of shipping, doesn’t President Xue have a very high-profile pursuer online? That female star… what was her name? She’s been shouting out to her for a while, saying she likes President Xue in every interview. She confesses on Weibo every day. Her name is… oh, I remember, Huang Luyin!”
Xiao Yuan searched on her phone and indeed found Huang Luyin’s Weibo. Her brow furrowed as she browsed.
“Does this person have some mental issues? Look at what she posts every day. Even though President Xue never responds, she posts things like, ‘Thinking of you makes my heart swell, looking forward to the day we meet again… @XueLuhe.’ So cringey. Is she just chasing clout?”
The friend shook her head:
“It’s not that simple. Huang Luyin collaborated with Xue Luhe on a movie two years ago. They played lovers, and it seems Huang Luyin never moved on. She treats Xue Luhe like her actual lover. Quite a few people buy into the ‘devoted lover’ persona, and she’s gained a lot of fans for it. Some people ship them too—the ‘Double Lu’ couple.”
Xiao Yuan clicked her tongue. “There really are all sorts of people in this world. We definitely can’t let Lin Mo see this; we don’t want her getting jealous.”
The meal ended with everyone in high spirits. After the others left in groups, only Lin Mo, Xue Luhe, Lu Ruoruo, and Xu Lu remained.
Qing Jing was the last to leave. Wang Ling followed behind her like a little puppy, making it impossible for her to say much to Lin Mo. She could only give a gentle smile:
“It’s been too busy lately. If you’re tired, just tell me, and I’ll approve your leave.”
Lin Mo nodded and agreed: “It’s fine, I’ll keep working.”
Qing Jing looked at Xue Luhe with a hint of concern, then reached out to tug on Lin Mo’s sleeve, whispering:
“Don’t give up your career for someone else.”
“As if! I’m not that kind of person.”
As Lin Mo spoke, she felt two scorching gazes boring into her back. She turned around and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
On the left was Wang Ling, and on the right was Xue Luhe. Both were squinting and glaring at her. Their very different faces expressed the exact same sentiment: Let go of her right now!
Lin Mo pulled her hand away, waved to Qing Jing, and walked over to Lu Ruoruo, placing a hand on the back of Xue Luhe’s wheelchair.
Xue Luhe looked up triumphantly and threw a cold glare at Qing Jing.
However, Wang Ling suddenly lunged forward like a little wild beast, glaring at Lin Mo and warning in a low voice:
“Stay away from my teacher. And you, Xue, keep your person in check!”
Xue Luhe’s brow furrowed in fury. Her hand shot out like lightning, grabbing Wang Ling’s wrist and twisting it with great force!
Wang Ling let out a sharp cry, clearly shocked by the sudden move. For a moment, she didn’t even know how to resist.
Holding her arm, Xue Luhe pulled the girl closer and looked down at her, her voice laced with a hidden threat:
“Your person should stay away from my wife. If you can’t keep them in check, I’ll do it for you. You are in no position to warn my wife!”
Wang Ling grit her teeth, her eyes spitting fire, but she didn’t know what to say. She couldn’t break free and was clearly at a disadvantage.
Finally, Lin Mo intervened:
“Alright, alright. She’s just a kid. Don’t bicker with a child.”
Xue Luhe snorted, let go, and steered her wheelchair away.
Lin Mo followed, giving Wang Ling a slightly sympathetic look and a shrug before walking off with Lu Ruoruo, chatting and laughing.
Left behind was Wang Ling, clutching her throbbing wrist with a contorted face. She turned to look for Qing Jing, only to find she had long since vanished. In the empty hotel entrance, Wang Ling stood alone, dazed and pained.
It was cold outside, so Xu Lu arranged for everyone to get into Xue Luhe’s Rolls-Royce. Xue Luhe and Lin Mo sat in the back, while Xu Lu and Lu Ruoruo sat in the front as they headed back to the apartment complex.
Sitting next to Xue Luhe, Lin Mo glanced cautiously at the area of her hip injury and asked softly:
“How is your injury? How is the recovery going?”
Xue Luhe turned her head. The rage and ruthlessness she had shown Wang Ling were gone, replaced by pure tenderness.
Following Lin Mo’s gaze to her injury, she smiled gently:
“It’s fine. The doctor said at the last checkup that I’m recovering well. I should be able to try standing in another two months.”
Lin Mo breathed a sigh of relief, though a strange feeling lingered. She murmured:
“Two more months…”
Lu Ruoruo turned around from the front seat:
“The saying goes that it takes a hundred days for bones to heal. It’s been less than a month since the injury, right? Mo Mo, be patient. Don’t be in a rush.”
Lin Mo instinctively retorted: “Who’s in a rush? I’m not in a rush! I’m just… I’m just afraid she’ll have some permanent side effects because of me…”
Xue Luhe reached out, took the back of Lin Mo’s hand, and patted it gently:
“Don’t worry. There won’t be any side effects. I’m fine.”
Lin Mo turned to look into Xue Luhe’s eyes—deep like the ocean. She felt as though she were drowning in that sea of tenderness and indulgence that wrapped around her like something physical, making her feel safe.
“But your body has so many other issues. You have to take care of yourself properly from now on. No more recklessness, okay? Company matters can wait. Your health is the most important thing. You need to eat well and keep up with your daily exercises… You should have someone keep an eye on you…”
For some reason, Lin Mo began to lecture her. With her hand held by Xue Luhe’s warm palm, she felt nervous and started rambling.
Xue Luhe listened intently with a serious expression, as if she were listening to the most important report in the company, unwilling to miss a single word. Her gaze was so devout that Lin Mo eventually lost her train of thought and had to stop.
The sound faded into a peaceful silence, warm and gentle like a stray beam of winter sunlight.
Lin Mo looked at Xue Luhe’s face. Her mind seemed full of thoughts, yet at the same time, she was thinking of nothing at all. She was simply admiring her beauty and the comforting, wonderful aura that radiated from her like points of light.
It was truly magical. Half a year ago, Lin Mo would never have imagined she would describe Xue Luhe this way, nor could she have imagined she’d find it hard to look away from her.
Everything had changed subtly. Lin Mo realized her feelings for Xue Luhe had evolved. Now, she rarely thought of the fear or disgust she had felt at the villa. Instead, she wondered with curiosity why she had ever felt that way.
Xue Luhe also gazed quietly at Lin Mo, cherishing her hand within her own. It felt soft and warm. She felt she could hold this hand until the end of time.
Though they were just looking at each other, they radiated an enviable aura. Lu Ruoruo caught a glimpse in the rearview mirror, immediately scrunched up her face, and exchanged a knowing look with Xu Lu.
Looks like good news is coming soon.
Xu Lu drove steadily through the winter streets. It was dusk, and in the north, it grew dark early. The streetlights were already on, casting blurred shadows on the pedestrians.
Suddenly, a faint meowing sound drifted in. Lin Mo and Xue Luhe both looked out the window at the same time.
Xue Luhe met Lin Mo’s gaze, immediately understood her thought, and said in a deep voice:
“Stop the car.”
Xu Lu pulled over. Lu Ruoruo and Lin Mo jumped out and began searching the bushes by the roadside.
Lu Ruoruo found something first and cried out in surprise:
“Look! It’s a cardboard box! There’s a kitten inside!”
Lin Mo walked over and shone her phone flashlight. Sure enough, there was a tiny kitten, likely not even a month old. It was barely half the size of a human palm, with sparse white fur, looking at them with huge, terrified eyes.
Lin Mo was instantly smitten. She carried the box back to the car to show Xue Luhe:
“Look, look! It’s so pitiful. I want to raise it!”
Xue Luhe looked at it seriously, nodded, and instructed:
“Find a pet hospital.”
Lin Mo cradled the box, reaching in to touch the shivering little animal. Her heart felt sweet.
She couldn’t help but feel that raising a pet together with Xue Luhe… would be a very beautiful thing.
