The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 52
Chapter 52
Lin Mo didn’t know what to say, so she kept her mouth shut and instinctively looked at Xue Luhe.
Xue Luhe’s expression was one of profound confusion mixed with a heavy, simmering anger, but there wasn’t a trace of the panic or nervousness of someone whose secret had been exposed. In fact, she looked like she was simply watching a show.
Lin Mo felt a little more at ease. She glanced at Xi Shen.
“Do you have any proof?”
Xi Shen smiled, a hint of madness flickering in the depths of her eyes. She pointed at Xue Luhe and Xu Lu.
“Have them leave. I’ll only tell the truth to you alone.”
Xue Luhe slammed her hand down on the table. The teapot and cups rattled and toppled, tea spilling across the surface and dripping down the sides.
Xu Lu quickly placed a steadying hand on the back of Xue Luhe’s wheelchair and whispered:
“President Xue, restrain yourself. Your health…”
Xue Luhe composed herself. When she turned to look at Lin Mo, her gaze softened significantly.
“Mo Mo, don’t listen to her. She’s gone mad. This is just the struggle of a trapped beast.”
Xi Shen immediately followed with a cold snort:
“The old saying goes that a person’s words are kindest when they are near death. Do you really not want to hear your wife’s secret?”
She deliberately emphasized the word “wife.”
Lin Mo swallowed and tried to bargain: “Can’t you just say it right here?”
Xi Shen shook her head with a chilling chuckle.
From the start until now, Lin Mo had been observing everyone’s reactions. She had already come to a decision in her heart.
She turned to Lu Ruoruo and Xu Lu: “I’m sorry, please step outside for a moment.”
Once only Xue Luhe, Xi Shen, and herself remained in the room, Lin Mo looked up and met Xi Shen’s gaze steadily.
“I’ve asked the uninvolved parties to leave. However, Xue Luhe is involved in this matter, so I will not ask her to go. Whatever you say can be verified by both of you. Xi Shen, either speak now or leave. I don’t have to hear this secret, and you have no leverage to threaten me with. The choice is yours.”
Xue Luhe’s eyes lit up as she looked at Lin Mo, her face filled with surprise and joy. She moved her wheelchair closer to Lin Mo, reached out gently, and took Lin Mo’s hand, stroking the back of it with her fingertips.
It was an intimate gesture, one of profound gratitude. Lin Mo could feel Xue Luhe suppressing her inner excitement, and she knew exactly why.
“You… you are so smart.”
Xue Luhe’s voice trembled slightly, hiding an obvious thrill and pleasure.
Lin Mo looked down and smiled at her: “I’m willing to give you this much trust.”
Xue Luhe’s beautiful face seemed to glow. Her lips were pressed tight, but the curve of her mouth was brilliant.
This was likely the first time in Xue Luhe’s life that someone had offered her such absolute trust without requiring an explanation first.
Lin Mo had known Xue Luhe for half a year now, from summer to winter. She understood what kind of person Xue Luhe was and was happy to give her that faith.
Xi Shen, on the other hand, was the opposite—the type of person Lin Mo couldn’t fathom. She had no desire to believe someone so calculating and unscrupulous.
Lin Mo turned to Xi Shen with a smile, waiting for her answer.
Xi Shen’s face was ashen. She stared at the joined hands of Xue Luhe and Lin Mo for a long time without answering, seemingly trying her best to suppress her rage.
After a while, Xi Shen let out a cold laugh:
“Heh. It seems you two really are a perfect match. One has no brains, and the other plays with stand-ins.”
Lin Mo raised an eyebrow. She didn’t find the remark pleasant and snapped back immediately:
“Still better than becoming unemployed soon. At least the two of us have jobs!”
Xue Luhe added: “Exactly!”
Lin Mo smirked.
Xi Shen’s face turned green with anger. She shut her mouth and simply handed over a tablet.
“It’s all in there. Scroll through it yourself.”
Lin Mo took the tablet. Staying cautious, she didn’t show it to Xue Luhe immediately but looked through the content herself first.
They were photos—candid shots, not very clear, but the subject was obviously Xue Luhe.
In the photos, Xue Luhe sat at a table, holding something in her hands and gazing at it with deep treasure.
On the other side, Xi Shen prepared to add fuel to the fire:
“Although Mu Fei and I broke up, she told me everything when we were together. She told me that Xue Luhe once had a true ‘white moonlight,’ someone incredibly important. To this day, Xue Luhe often takes out their mementos to mourn the past. Lin Mo, haven’t you noticed that you and Mu Fei look a bit alike? It’s a pity. To Xue Luhe, you’re both just stand-ins. The one she truly loves is the owner of that memento.”
Xi Shen was immersed in the pleasure of revenge, speaking with passionate fervor. But as she spoke, she looked at Lin Mo and realized things weren’t going as planned.
Lin Mo’s expression was extremely peculiar. Her brow was furrowed, yet the corners of her mouth were twitching upward uncontrollably. Her fingers were flipping through the photos, zooming in and out with intense focus.
It was… nothing like the shock, pain, or collapse Xi Shen had imagined.
Furthermore, Xue Luhe—who couldn’t see the screen but had heard the words—wore an equally strange expression. It wasn’t the embarrassment of being caught or anger; it mirrored Lin Mo’s.
There was “pain,” yes, but it looked more like the pain of trying very hard to hold back a laugh.
Xi Shen thought she was seeing things. She blinked and looked again, but their expressions only grew more bizarre.
Xi Shen had no choice but to keep pushing:
“Everything I said is true. Otherwise, why do you think Xue Luhe agreed to the marriage request the moment she saw your photo? Because that photo you gave her showed you without makeup or styling; she saw the resemblance to her white moonlight. Not just you, Mu Fei was a stand-in too, but she eventually realized it and escaped. I’m only telling you this because I consider you a friend…”
As Xi Shen spoke, she suddenly saw Lin Mo hand the tablet to Xue Luhe.
Xue Luhe began scrolling through the photos as if no one else was there, her slender fingers gliding across the screen without a single pause, showing how relaxed she was.
Xi Shen’s eyes widened, her voice rising to a roar:
“What are you two doing!”
Lin Mo frowned and covered her ears. Xue Luhe looked up disapprovingly, glared at Xi Shen, and said lowly:
“Be quiet. We’re looking at photos.”
Standing behind the wheelchair, Lin Mo leaned down to look at the tablet with Xue Luhe, a smile on her face. She pointed at something in a photo:
“That’s really ugly!”
Xue Luhe gently patted her hand away, though she was smiling too: “Don’t say that.”
Lin Mo’s smile widened. Xue Luhe looked up at her, and they shared a look of mutual amusement. The atmosphere was as beautiful as a scene from an idol drama.
But how is this possible?
Xi Shen’s mind was a mess of confusion. She couldn’t understand. Mu Fei had clearly said that Lin Mo was just a stand-in!
But looking at them now, Lin Mo was clearly the “white moonlight” herself.
A possibility Xi Shen had never considered suddenly popped into her head.
Did Mu Fei… provide false information to lead my investigation astray?
Did she not know the truth, or did she lie on purpose?
Xi Shen leaned heavily against the table, clutching her head, and let out a broken cry:
“What is going on!”
Lin Mo looked up from the tablet with a bit of pity for Xi Shen. She offered an explanation:
“Everything you said was right… except that Xue Luhe’s childhood ‘white moonlight’ is me.”
Xue Luhe smiled, looking up at Lin Mo, and whispered:
“Thank you for being willing to accept that. Also, I was too impulsive last time. I’m sorry. I’ve reflected on it for a long time.”
Lin Mo looked down and laughed:
“It’s okay. I thought about it later; my reaction was too intense. It wasn’t actually that serious. I was just… a bit embarrassed, and I was still afraid of you then. I misunderstood you. I should say sorry too.”
Xue Luhe shook her head quickly. “It wasn’t your fault. It was all on me. You don’t need to apologize.”
“I want to. Saying it makes me feel better…”
“You shouldn’t. It should be me…”
“I’m going to do it anyway…”
Xi Shen suddenly exploded with a shout: “Enough!”
Lin Mo jumped, then felt her hand being squeezed. Her fingers were warmly enveloped in a slender, soft palm.
Holding her hand, Xue Luhe spoke in a deep, resonant, and joyful voice:
“It’s not enough. Mo Mo and I will never run out of things to say. By the way, I forgot to tell you—Mu Fei knew about Lin Mo’s childhood connection to me. I don’t know why she did what she did, but unfortunately for you, she was lying.”
Xi Shen collapsed completely. She leaned against the wall, crouched down with her head in her hands, and let out a desperate howl:
“Fei! You actually lied to me…”
Lin Mo found the scene strangely funny. She poked Xue Luhe’s shoulder with a finger:
“Look at her. Doesn’t she look like she just got caught in a police raid?”
Xue Luhe laughed. “She does. Very much so.”
Lin Mo giggled. Xue Luhe looked up at her:
“Mo Mo, thank you. Whether it was when we were kids or now, I have to thank you.”
Lin Mo’s lips curved into a crescent, her eyes crinkling. She tilted her head playfully: “Thank me for what?”
Xue Luhe thought for a moment and smiled. “Thank you for… the care and trust you’ve always given me. I didn’t experience much warmth growing up; a huge part of what I did have came from you.”
Lin Mo beamed. Xue Luhe patted the back of her hand and held it.
“Come on. Let’s go find somewhere for dinner.”
Lin Mo didn’t move. Instead, she picked up the tablet and began tapping away.
“What are you doing?” Xue Luhe asked curiously.
Lin Mo grinned. “Transferring these photos to my phone.”
Xue Luhe was stunned for a second before she let out an incredibly soft laugh.
Lin Mo connected the tablet to the coffee shop’s Wi-Fi, sent the decent-looking photos to herself, deleted them from the tablet, and handed it back to Xi Shen with a giggle.
“There, returned to its rightful owner. You stay here; as for us, we’re going out to eat.”
Xi Shen held her head, refusing to speak or look up, her face completely hidden.
Lin Mo pushed Xue Luhe’s wheelchair. The smart wheelchair didn’t actually need pushing, but she wanted to keep her hands near Xue Luhe without jumping straight to holding hands on the way out.
A few strands of Xue Luhe’s dark brown curls caught around Lin Mo’s fingers. As they walked, Lin Mo couldn’t help but play with the hair; it felt cool, smooth, and very satisfying to touch.
The two walked out calmly, only to find a crowd gathered outside the booth.
Lu Ruoruo and Xu Lu were at the front, followed by Qing Jing, Xiao Yuan, Li Kexin, and others. Even Qing Jing’s ex-wife, Wang Ling, was peeking out from the back.
Without a word, Lu Ruoruo rushed forward to give Lin Mo a hug:
“Waaaah, are you okay? We heard nothing from inside and were scared to death! That Xi Shen looked like she’d lost it! You’re fine, right? You look fine…”
Xu Lu stepped in to take over the wheelchair, saying calmly:
“I’ll push the merger through immediately upon our return. I won’t wait for more favorable terms.”
Xue Luhe waved her hand. “No need. Wait until the most advantageous result is clear. This matter… isn’t that important anymore.”
Xu Lu nodded knowingly, looked at Lin Mo, then back at Xue Luhe, and smiled.
Qing Jing was particularly worried. She and Lu Ruoruo stood on either side of Lin Mo, asking what happened. Lin Mo decided to explain the whole thing to them.
After listening, Lu Ruoruo rubbed her chin, thinking hard.
“So basically, you are Xue Luhe’s childhood friend and white moonlight, but Mu Fei lied to Xi Shen and said you were just a stand-in, and Xi Shen actually believed it? My god!”
Qing Jing gave a forced smile. “That person is quite dim, being tricked without even realizing it. But it really is a coincidence—quite the fated connection. Though, childhood friendships usually don’t count for much…”
In front of Qing Jing, Xue Luhe immediately regained her cold, elegant composure. She let out a snort:
“Heh. If feelings that sprouted in childhood don’t count, then what is real?”
Wang Ling suddenly appeared from nowhere: “True. First love is always etched into the heart. Teacher, you were my first love and the only person I’ll ever love in this life.”
Qing Jing rolled her eyes subtly and silently. Lin Mo gave her a look of pure understanding.
Xue Luhe, not wanting to be outdone, turned to Lin Mo and said:
“I also believe that loving one person in a lifetime is enough.”
These obsessive and hot-tempered women really do have a habit of dropping pick-up lines anytime, anywhere, Lin Mo thought.
Fortunately, she was used to Xue Luhe’s rambling now. It didn’t grate on her ears.
In fact… hearing a beauty say such sweet things was actually quite pleasant.
