The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 51
Chapter 51
Lin Mo thought for a moment and decided that many things were not suitable to ask directly.
For now, she would listen to what the other party had to say.
Lin Mo smoothed her hair, pretending to be nonchalant: “Ah, how could that be? You must have misheard!”
Xi Shen gave a sinister little laugh and said softly: “Actually, I came here because I have something to discuss with you. Regarding the past—as long as you are willing—it can all be wiped clean as far as I’m concerned.”
Forget Lin Mo; even Lu Ruoruo felt her anger flare up. She started cursing immediately:
“You have the face to talk about wiping things clean? Weren’t you the one who framed her back then? You made it impossible for our Mo Mo to prove her innocence. Do you have any idea how long those photos circulated in our social circle, or how long Mo Mo was ridiculed? How do you have the nerve to come here and talk about ‘wiping it clean’? It’s our generosity that we haven’t held you legally accountable!”
Lin Mo barely managed to restrain her fiery-tempered best friend. She let out a silent sigh, glared back at the curious onlookers to make them mind their own business, and then pulled Lu Ruoruo by the arm toward the private booth:
“Don’t talk about it here. Let’s go back inside first.”
Xi Shen let out a cold laugh, her eyes dark and unreadable. She followed slowly behind them into the booth.
In a place like a coffee shop, booths generally didn’t lock. Lin Mo and Lu Ruoruo walked in and stood on either side of the door like two guardian deities, scrutinizing Xi Shen in the middle.
Lu Ruoruo was still indignant, pointing her finger:
“And to think you lied to me before! You said you wanted to save Mo Mo for the sake of your years of friendship and asked me to cooperate. Back then, I thought you actually cared about her! If Mo Mo hadn’t happened to lose her memory at the critical moment, Xue Luhe would have crushed you into dust long ago, you know that?”
Xi Shen kept a contemptuous sneer on her lips. She didn’t look at Lu Ruoruo; she kept her eyes fixed on Lin Mo, looking her up and down.
After a long silence, she spoke in a refined tone: “It really has been a long time, Mo Mo. I’ve missed you.”
Lin Mo rolled her eyes, turned around, and pulled Lu Ruoruo down to sit: “I haven’t missed you at all. Whatever it is, just say it directly.”
Xi Shen pulled out a chair for herself, picked up the teapot, and poured three cups of tea, handing one to each of them: “Drink some water and calm down first.”
Lu Ruoruo picked up her cup and drank. Lin Mo hesitated and didn’t touch hers.
Xi Shen chuckled softly: “Are you really that afraid of me? Don’t worry, the water isn’t poisoned.”
Lin Mo shook her head: “Given your track record, I am indeed afraid.”
Xi Shen placed her hands on the table, forming a triangle, and stared steadily at Lin Mo from above her fingers. Her gaze always reminded one of a humid rainforest—damp, cool, and hiding many secrets.
“I already said the past is wiped clean. If we really want to calculate responsibility, you are the one who should be held accountable. I think you understand that.”
Lu Ruoruo was so angry she wanted to slam the table again, but Lin Mo pressed her hand down.
Instead, Lin Mo grew calm, a trace of a smile in her voice: “If we really went to court, it’s not certain who would be in the right. I made mistakes, but your actions weren’t exactly self-defense either.”
Lu Ruoruo raised her eyebrows in pleasant surprise, mouthing to Lin Mo: Nice one, sister!
Lin Mo’s gaze swept over Lu Ruoruo with a smile as she waited for Xi Shen’s counter-move.
Xi Shen opened and closed her fingers one by one. After a long pause, the corner of her mouth curved up:
“I didn’t come here today for that matter. I heard that lately, the relationship between you and Xue Luhe has improved. It seems you’re planning to make your contract marriage a reality?”
Lin Mo felt as if she had been choked. She frowned, glanced at Lu Ruoruo, then turned back: “Where did you hear that? How come I didn’t know?”
Xi Shen leaned back with a laugh: “You’re living together already. Are you still going to deny it?”
Lu Ruoruo let out a startled cry, her hands gripping Lin Mo’s shoulders in total disbelief.
Lin Mo was also shocked. What on earth is this? She had long since distanced herself from Xi Shen’s circle, yet she didn’t expect her “legend” to still be circulating within it.
“Who said we’re living together? It’s just that Xue Luhe insisted on living in the same building as me. I find it annoying too! A person like her—I already find being in a contract marriage with her bothersome enough. Making it real? I’d have to be insane!”
As Lin Mo spoke, she felt a strange pang of guilt. She was lying, of course… but was part of that actually her true thought?
Regardless, she couldn’t let Xi Shen have her way. Whatever Xi Shen said, she would simply contradict it.
Xi Shen let out another laugh—short, sharp, and unpleasant.
“Such a strong reaction. You clearly have something to hide. I heard you go over every day to cook for her, and she injured herself specifically to save you. Doesn’t that prove something?”
Lin Mo threw up her hands, putting on an indifferent front: “Prove what? It proves that I have no choice but to cook and serve her! You know Xue Luhe’s perverted temper. If I don’t serve her well, she’d probably eat me alive! I’m only doing it under pressure. If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do.”
Lu Ruoruo listened with a face full of shock. Xi Shen, however, maintained a faint smile, her emotions completely unreadable, making it impossible to guess her true thoughts.
“Since you put it that way, I naturally believe you. I came to find you just to tell you: don’t stay with Xue Luhe.”
Lin Mo raised an eyebrow: “Why?”
Xi Shen smiled: “Because…”
She only got two words out before being interrupted by the door swinging open.
Xue Luhe led the way in her wheelchair, with Xu Lu following behind. She maneuvered the chair right up to Xi Shen, her eyes like chips of ice:
“Because you are already a defeated foe. Therefore, she won’t believe a single word you say.”
Lin Mo was dumbstruck. Looking at Xi Shen, she saw a similar look of shock.
However, after the initial shock, Xi Shen suddenly lowered her head and laughed self-deprecatingly:
“As expected… Xue Luhe, oh Xue Luhe. You could be called a legendary figure of your generation, yet here you are, trapped in this place, looking so pathetic. For the sake of this one woman, you were willing to give up a massive chunk of the market. I’m impressed!”
Lin Mo hurriedly asked Xue Luhe: “What did you give up? Is there a problem with your work?”
Xue Luhe shook her head at Lin Mo first, then looked at Xi Shen with icy mockery:
“A person whose company is on the verge of collapse has no right to comment on my work style. How is your final project going? Once it’s done, you should be ready for the handover, right? I will arrange for Xu Lu to personally handle the merger details with your side. If you have this much free time, why don’t you talk to Xu Lu about the specifics of the acquisition?”
Lin Mo still didn’t quite understand, but Lu Ruoruo caught on. She leaned in and whispered to Lin Mo:
“Oh my god, Xue Luhe actually acquired Xi Shen’s family company. I heard some rumors before but thought it was impossible! I can’t believe it’s true…”
Xi Shen’s expression turned ugly, as if she were suppressing a volcanic rage. Her voice grew deep:
“That’s still better than being half a cripple like you. I’ll have someone discuss the merger details with you. But remember, this is only a temporary victory. You will always have me as an opponent!”
Xue Luhe was full of disdain: “I have far too many defeated foes. Since when did every stray dog and cat think they were qualified to be my ‘opponent’?”
Xi Shen grit her teeth, glaring at Xue Luhe. It felt as if sparks were flying between their gazes.
Lin Mo and Lu Ruoruo watched nervously, feeling like the two might come to blows any second. Lin Mo couldn’t help but look at Xu Lu and whisper:
“Sister Xu, what exactly is going on?”
Xu Lu walked over and explained quietly to Lin Mo:
“A while ago, even before President Xue was injured, she had already grasped the weakness of Xi Shen’s company. She operated for a long time, laying a very long trail. Now, Xi Shen’s projects have been snatched, and President Xue launched an attack. It has reached the stage of a merger agreement. Xi Shen’s company has essentially been sold to President Xue. However, in order to crush Xi Shen’s company, President Xue gave up some of her Southeast Asian business and lost many opportunities.”
Lin Mo’s eyes widened, and she felt a bit uneasy. She grabbed Xu Lu’s arm and asked:
“She… she crushed Xi Shen… it wouldn’t… it wouldn’t be because of me, right?”
Xu Lu turned her head and shook it: “I’m not entirely sure. But I rarely see President Xue act so irrationally. Proceeding with a merger at this stage doesn’t bring much benefit to our company. It seems she simply wanted to thoroughly defeat Xi Shen. As for the reason behind it, she hasn’t said, and I shouldn’t speculate.”
Lin Mo licked her lips. To think that in places she didn’t know about, Xue Luhe had done so much—and it was very likely related to her. The feeling was truly… exhilarating.
It made her head spin!
On the other side, Xue Luhe and Xi Shen were now sitting side-by-side. To an outsider, they might look like they had a good relationship, but in reality, their gazes were sharp enough to slice each other into pieces.
Xue Luhe looked coldly at Xi Shen: “Go on, keep talking.”
Her eyes were filled with contempt, as if she had reverted to the domineering CEO from the villa days who answered to no one.
Lin Mo couldn’t help but steal a few more glances. Lu Ruoruo whispered on the side: “Whoa… this woman is as cool as ever…”
Xi Shen no longer rested her hands on the table. Instead, she crossed her arms in a defensive posture and turned to Lin Mo:
“I have indeed lost. I’ve lost completely—even Mu Fei has left me. However, Lin Mo, there is one thing I think you should know. This is also the reason I came to find you.”
Lin Mo was indeed interested. She asked: “So, what is it?”
Xue Luhe snorted with disdain, looking at Xi Shen with an expression that said, ‘Let’s see what kind of trick you can pull now.’
Xi Shen reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear. Her gaze shifted—first to Xue Luhe with a fleeting, triumphant smile, then back to Lin Mo.
She spoke loudly, her voice ringing clear:
“Lin Mo, I don’t think you know… that Xue Luhe has been treating you as a stand-in all this time, right?”
Lin Mo: “Huh?”
Xue Luhe’s eyes snapped shut. Her fingers gripped the wheelchair so hard it looked like she might stand up.
Lu Ruoruo’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. Xu Lu became instantly alert, moving quickly to Xue Luhe’s side to prepare for any emergency.
For a split second, Lin Mo felt a massive, inexplicable sense of despair, like a dark cloud hovering over her, making it hard to breathe.
Was she… just a stand-in?
She didn’t remember this part from the original novel. Xue Luhe’s past was indeed vague, but a stand-in? Was that something this domineering, obsessive, and pathological woman would do?
Xi Shen began to laugh lowly. At first, the laugh held a trace of refinement, but as she held it in, it became increasingly exaggerated, eerie, and crazed.
She said: “Since even I am to be ruined and abandoned, why should you two get to have true love?”
