The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Xue Luhe:
Call me ‘Wifey’ once, and I’ll tell you.
Lin Mo stared at that line of text on her phone, using every ounce of her lifelong upbringing to keep from hurling the device across the room.
She felt like a fire-breathing dragon with nowhere to vent her flames. It was stifling. Finally, she stood up, walked to the door, and peered out through the peephole.
Her front door faced Xue Luhe’s unit, 2203, right across the hallway. At that moment, she could see Xue Luhe entering her apartment and closing the door.
Lin Mo glared through the peephole with such intensity she wished she could set the opposite door on fire with her mind.
However, since she couldn’t defy the laws of physics, she settled for glaring. Huffing with anger, she pulled out her phone, intending to block the name Xue Luhe.
But she soon had an epiphany. Just because the woman didn’t want to talk today didn’t mean she wouldn’t talk tomorrow. As long as she kept asking, she’d get an answer eventually, right?
Still, she was so mad! Who could endure this?! It was infuriating!
Fine, fine. I’ll block her for ten minutes. I’ll let her out later. I need to vent this frustration first.
Lin Mo blocked her.
The moment she clicked “Add to Blacklist,” every cell in Lin Mo’s body screamed with joy. She was ecstatic, a chorus of Hallelujahs ringing in her ears, and a flock of tiny angels fluttering around her head!
As expected, blocking was the cure for all ailments. It felt amazing!
The heart palpitations caused by her anger vanished instantly. She felt refreshed, healthy, and like she could run down 22 flights of stairs without breaking a breath!
Meanwhile, sitting in her minimalist new apartment, Xue Luhe held her phone. After hesitating for a long while, she finally typed out a sentence:
In any case, I’m sorry.
Send.
Delivery failed.
Your message was sent, but the recipient rejected it.
Looking at that small grey notification, Xue Luhe’s gaze instantly turned deep and dark. Her lips pressed into a tight line, the muscles in her jaw tensing.
She had finally managed to apologize… and this Lin Mo dared to block her!
How dare she!
Room 2201 was a disaster zone. Massive packing bags filled the space, forcing people to navigate carefully between them to find a place to step.
Lu Ruoruo performed an acrobatic feat to bring over two glasses of soda, handing one to Lin Mo.
“What are you up to? You looked like you were about to explode a second ago, and now you’re grinning like a cat?”
Lin Mo explained what happened, smiling triumphantly.
Lu Ruoruo: “Then you’d better pray she didn’t try to message you during those ten minutes. Otherwise, she’ll know you blocked her, and this mess will never end.”
Lin Mo: Smile instantly vanishes.jpg
How did she forget that? She had assumed blocking didn’t send a notification, but she hadn’t considered what would happen if the other person actually sent a message!
She frantically dragged the name back out of the blacklist. She checked—no new message notifications.
She tentatively sent an emoji: Angry Piggy.jpg
Excellent. No red exclamation mark. At least it meant she hadn’t been blocked in return, which indirectly suggested Xue Luhe might not have noticed she was blocked.
Lin Mo stared blankly at her phone, wondering if the woman would send an emoji back.
She waited a long time, but there was no reply.
Lu Ruoruo was starving and was already ordering takeout. “What do you want to eat? Chinese or Western? Let’s just make do for lunch; I’ll take you out for a big feast tonight. Hey, why hasn’t the cleaning service we called arrived yet?”
Lin Mo didn’t know much about professional cleaners. She had wanted to tidy up herself, but Lu Ruoruo insisted on calling someone, saying, “You have amnesia and your brain is malfunctioning; you need quiet rest.”
They didn’t know which company Lu Ruoruo had called, but it had been over an hour and no one had shown up.
Lu Ruoruo ordered takeout for two, which arrived in less than half an hour. The two of them ate a chicken wing pot over the cluttered coffee table.
After eating and drinking their fill, Lu Ruoruo called the cleaning company. “Why hasn’t the person you sent arrived yet?”
The company was equally confused. “Didn’t they arrive already? The cleaning is finished.”
Lu Ruoruo: “But we haven’t seen them at all!”
“Isn’t it Chundi Mansion, Building 3, Unit 2, 22nd floor? My staff reported that they’ve already cleaned the 22nd floor.”
“Huh? Are you sure it was the 22nd floor? Why didn’t we see them?”
Lin Mo already had a premonition. She snorted, told Lu Ruoruo to hang up, and said with puffed cheeks:
“I knew it! Creep Xue must have found out I blocked her! She intercepted our cleaners!”
Lu Ruoruo’s mouth fell open. It took her a moment to react. “Uh… Xue Luhe’s way of getting revenge is… quite unique, isn’t it?”
Lin Mo balled her fists, ready to charge out the door. “You wait here. I’m going to settle the score with her!”
But once she reached the door, she lost her nerve. She turned back weakly. “Maybe… let’s just call another cleaner? This time we’ll give them the specific room number?”
Lu Ruoruo sighed in exasperation, poking Lin Mo’s forehead. “You, you! Why are you so weak? I’m only afraid of Xue Luhe because my dad’s company relies on her for partnerships. Why are you so terrified? She seems quite nice to you! It looks like she’s trying hard to compensate you now.”
Lin Mo was fuming. She pointed a finger at the door, her hand shaking with agitation as if she were poking Xue Luhe through the wall.
“Is this how she compensates me?! That lunatic! She was just talking about the photos, and the moment I add her on WeChat, she turns hostile. Is this her ‘compensating’ attitude?! I’m going to die of anger. Don’t let me see her again. If I see her, I won’t be this polite!”
Lu Ruoruo squinted at Lin Mo with a mocking smile. “Polite? You’re clearly terrified, like a mouse seeing a cat. I see it clearly now—since you lost your memory, you’ve become a big talker. All bark, no bite.”
As they were talking, there was a knock at the door. Lin Mo checked the peephole and recognized the woman outside.
It was a sharp, professional woman with her hair up in a bun, wearing business attire. She was the one who had searched Lin Mo back at Xi Shen’s villa.
Behind the woman stood several people in full white cleaning uniforms.
Lin Mo asked through the intercom: “Who are you, and what are you here for?”
The professional woman wore a practiced smile. “Hello, my name is Xu Lu. I am CEO Xue Luhe’s personal assistant. CEO Xue sent me to bring a team to help you clean.”
Lin Mo: “…What kind of play is this? Does your CEO have a hole in her brain? Did she just intercept my cleaners, and now she’s sending you with a whole crew to apologize?”
Hearing Lin Mo vent about her boss, Xu Lu remained calm, maintaining her professional smile. “Not at all. CEO Xue said your original cleaners went to the wrong door, so she hired a new company for you.”
Though skeptical, Lin Mo opened the door and let them in.
Lu Ruoruo watched the group and then Xu Lu. She sidled up to Lin Mo and tugged her sleeve. “Do you think Xue Luhe is doing this on purpose to get back at you for blocking her? What if these people steal something?”
Lin Mo could only frown and follow the crew around, watching them closely.
Fortunately, the process was fast and thorough. Once the cleaning team finished, Xu Lu led them away as quickly as they had arrived.
Standing in her clean, tidy new home, Lin Mo looked around, feeling a strange sensation.
Did Xue Luhe really have a change of heart, taking away one cleaning auntie only to send an entire professional team?
In Room 2203, Xue Luhe sat on the sofa, picked up her tablet, and received an application file sent by Xu Lu.
Click, install. Lin Mo’s living room appeared on the screen.
At that moment, Lin Mo was standing in the middle of the frame, frowning in confusion as she surveyed her clean, beautiful apartment.
Xue Luhe picked up a glass of champagne, brought it to her lips, and took a sip.
A slightly sweet taste and a sharp alcoholic sting slid down her throat together, making her feel a bit lightheaded.
She hadn’t originally planned to install this, but Lin Mo… had made Xue Luhe care far too much.
Back at the villa, every room except the bathroom had surveillance, though Xue Luhe rarely looked at them—phone monitoring was usually enough.
But now, Xue Luhe wanted to watch Lin Mo all the time. Watch her forever. Keep everything about her within her grasp.
Xu Lu’s covert mission had been to install a camera in Lin Mo’s living room.
The moment she discovered she had been blocked, for the first time in years, Xue Luhe felt a wave of panic—like someone was strangling her. The feeling of suffocation was intense.
She realized her desire for Lin Mo had become excessive.
Xue Luhe always believed that if you do something, you either don’t do it at all or you do it to the extreme.
WeChat could be blocked. Therefore, it was better to install 24-hour surveillance. Watch her, watch her…
Until she had her, or lost her completely.
Lu Ruoruo had gone home. Lin Mo sat in the living room for a while, feeling restless.
Maybe it was just the new house… no, that wasn’t right. Everywhere she had been in this world was a “new house,” but she had never felt this “pins and needles” sensation on her back until today.
Lin Mo stood up and paced back and forth. She still didn’t believe Xue Luhe would be that kind-hearted.
Xue Luhe definitely had an ulterior motive!
Lin Mo decided to retrace the route the cleaners had taken today, meticulously checking every corner.
As she passed a vase in the corner of the living room, she walked past it, then suddenly froze.
The vase was filled with preserved flowers—that was fine. But… why was there a flash of white light coming from the center of one of the flowers?
Lin Mo pretended to glance casually, then… immediately walked away.
She was sure! A tiny camera was hidden in the heart of the flower!
Like an eye!
It was hair-raising!
Lin Mo almost screamed, but she suppressed it. She walked a distance away, sat on the sofa, gripped a throw pillow tightly, and buried her face in it.
This was terrifying. What should she do?
She had thought Xue Luhe might be getting better, but now, she was clearly getting worse!
She actually secretly installed surveillance in her home!
Lunatic! She wanted to call the police!
Lin Mo took out her phone, about to dial 110, but then put it down and began to think.
In the original novel, Xue Luhe was indeed a major creep. The female lead, Mu Fei, had called the police before, but every time Xue Luhe escaped due to lack of evidence or other reasons.
If she called the police now, the result would be the same. It wasn’t like Xue Luhe hadn’t been to the police station before—she was there just a few days ago. Did it work? No.
So, she had to find a way to strike at what Xue Luhe cared about most.
Deciding to act, since it was already night, Lin Mo pretended to be casual. She placed two books on the stand where the vase sat, perfectly and thoroughly blocking the camera lens.
Then she turned on the TV, found a movie starring Xue Luhe, and started playing it.
Whenever Xue Luhe’s face appeared on the screen, Lin Mo immediately adjusted her facial expression and shouted with dramatic emotion:
“This character Xue Luhe is playing is a psycho! Just as trash as she is in real life! Disgusting!”
“Why do directors keep hiring Xue Luhe? Besides staring and pursing her lips, what other expressions does she have? So ugly! I’m crying from the ugliness!”
“Tsk tsk tsk, this styling… a floor rag looks better than this. Xue Luhe is just too ugly; the stylist can’t even save her!”
“Hehe, this character’s logic has as many holes as Xue Luhe’s own brain. Xue Luhe’s taste in scripts is truly terrible. I hope it flops to the center of the earth. What ‘talented movie queen’? I see a talented idiot!”
