The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
The corridor of the ordinary residential building was narrow and short.
It really didn’t suit someone as dazzling as Xue Luhe; her mere presence seemed to light up the entire space. A true instance of “humble quarters graced by a noble guest.”
Xue Luhe held no keys, and there was no assistant behind her. There was no sign that she was actually a homeowner, and she looked completely out of place in front of the apartment she had just bought.
Lin Mo swallowed hard and decided to ignore her. She turned and waved to Lu Ruoruo:
“Hurry up, let’s get inside and unpack.”
She pulled Lu Ruoruo to her side, using her friend’s body as a shield, and quickly brushed past the wall next to Xue Luhe.
Xue Luhe kept her eyes fixed on Lin Mo the entire time. As Lin Mo passed in front of her, she suddenly spoke:
“Are you really that unwilling to see me?”
Lin Mo’s legs went weak, nearly causing her to trip. She only remained standing by wrapping her arms tightly around Lu Ruoruo’s.
She glanced up at the beautiful woman who was half a head taller than her, then immediately looked down again.
A single moment of eye contact was enough to make her feel immense pressure.
The Movie Queen’s eyes truly spoke. With just one look, an overwhelming wave of emotion crashed over Lin Mo, making it hard to breathe and even harder to ignore.
Tugging Lu Ruoruo’s arm, Lin Mo reached her door and called back:
“Yes.”
She truly was unwilling—unwilling from the bottom of her heart. Nothing good ever happened when she saw this woman.
From start to finish, all Lin Mo wanted was a peaceful life, but no matter how she looked at it, getting involved with Xue Luhe meant saying goodbye to “peace.”
The moment she finished speaking, Lin Mo unlocked the door and pushed it open just enough for Lu Ruoruo to slip inside.
She tried to follow quickly, but she didn’t make it.
A pale hand pressed against the apartment door.
Lin Mo looked at the hand and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. she turned around and snapped aggressively:
“Let go, or I’m calling the police!”
Xue Luhe kept one hand pressed against the door. Her figure was slender and relaxed as she leaned half-against the wall, her waist looking delicate and soft.
Her sharp, haughty features—likely accentuated by bold makeup—gave off an overbearing aura. As she stared at Lin Mo, her dark eyes were like a deep abyss that Lin Mo didn’t dare look into.
“Won’t you invite me in for a seat?”
Xue Luhe’s melancholic, deep tone elevated the plain residential hallway to the level of a grand theater.
Lin Mo ignored her and tried to pull the door shut with force, shouting:
“Let go! I won’t be responsible if your hand gets crushed!”
She didn’t actually dare to use too much strength; her final tug was actually quite gentle. Yet, she still heard a muffled groan catch in the gap of the door.
Lin Mo’s heart hammered. No way, did I actually crush her hand?
This was the world-famous, prestigious Movie Queen Xue Luhe… If she injured her hand, Lin Mo might not be able to afford the compensation even if she spent every cent of her dividends!
Seeing Lin Mo’s face turn pale as she stood frozen at the door, Lu Ruoruo asked curiously:
“Why aren’t you coming in?”
Lin Mo’s face was white with a hint of green, a look of pure stomach-churning anxiety.
“I think… I caught her hand… I caught Xue Luhe’s hand in the door…”
Lu Ruoruo: “…”
The two girls stared at each other, speechless.
At that moment, a “thump, thump, thump” came from the other side of the door. The knocking was incessant, like a death knell.
Seeing Lin Mo looking like she was about to cry from fear, Lu Ruoruo jumped up with a shout. She walked to the door, puffed out her chest like a warrior, and patted it.
“Don’t be afraid, Momo! I’m here! I’ll deal with her, you go hide in the room!”
Lin Mo was moved to tears of gratitude. She felt bad hiding in the room entirely, so she crouched behind Lu Ruoruo, poking only her head out to watch.
Lu Ruoruo walked over slowly, pinched the door handle with two fingers to open it, and then immediately let go as if the handle were red-hot.
Lin Mo craned her neck to look. Seeing it was still just Xue Luhe alone, she breathed a small sigh of relief.
She had been afraid that Xue Luhe had brought a dozen hulking bodyguards to kidnap her. For now, it seemed the woman wasn’t that insane yet.
Xue Luhe saw the hiding Lin Mo and deliberately raised one hand, wiggling her fingers at her.
Those long, pale, elegant fingers were perfectly fine!
The door hadn’t touched her at all!
Which meant this person had been faking—deliberately groaning to trick her into opening the door again?
Despicable! Shameless! I was only tricked because I’m too kind!
Lin Mo cursed her inwardly. How dare you lie to me! Next time I’ll make sure you actually feel what it’s like to have your hand caught in a door!
To Lu Ruoruo, Xue Luhe’s voice was much calmer:
“I’m here to talk to Lin Mo about something. Could you give us a moment?”
Lu Ruoruo: “…” This is too hard for me!
Lin Mo couldn’t bear to let her best friend be tested over and over. After giving herself a mental pep talk, she stepped out to face the Great Demon Head directly.
“If you have something to say, say it. It doesn’t matter if Lu Ruoruo is here.”
Xue Luhe nodded, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly as she moved to step inside.
Clack! Lin Mo stuck a leg out to block the doorway. She stood firmly with her arms spread wide like a giant “X,” completely blocking the entrance.
“Say it out here.”
A crack appeared in Xue Luhe’s sophisticated and proud expression. “My explanation will take a long time.”
Lin Mo kept her chin up stubbornly. “Make it short. Ideally, condense it into one sentence. I’m moving right now and I’m very busy; I don’t have time for your explanations.”
Xue Luhe’s face darkened, appearing hesitant.
On the surface, Lin Mo looked determined and brave, but Lu Ruoruo, standing behind her, could see that Lin Mo’s back was drenched in a cold sweat.
After all, this was the person who had given her a massive psychological trauma. It would be a lie to say Lin Mo wasn’t scared, but facing her head-on made it feel a little less terrifying.
Xue Luhe was still human, after all. Communication was possible.
Outside in the hallway, the light was bright. It was noon, and a beam of sunlight shot through the narrow window, creating an irregular brilliant spot behind Xue Luhe.
It made her look like an angel draped in holy light… No, she was clearly a demon disguised as an angel!
She seemed to be wavering, her lips pressed together, her eyes deep and avoiding direct contact, as if she were embarrassed.
Lin Mo stood at the door with her hands on her hips, not daring to move. Lu Ruoruo, getting bored behind her, went back to the room to tidy up and found two glass cups, preparing to pour water for Lin Mo.
“Actually… about the photos…”
Xue Luhe finally began to speak slowly. She said a few words, then suddenly stopped, her eyes darting away.
Lin Mo found this bizarre. This was nothing like the “Big Creep Xue” she had known for those two weeks. Instead, she acted like a romance drama lead—hesitant and coy, unable to finish a sentence.
“What exactly are you trying to say?”
“Regarding the photos, I looked into some things and found…”
Xue Luhe stopped again.
Lin Mo was about to lose it. She stomped her foot in anger:
“Are you a tube of toothpaste? Just squeeze it out! Tell me, what did you find!”
Just then, the elevator chimed. Someone was coming.
A couple walked over, both looking refined and polite, holding hands. The woman took out a key to open the door to 2202.
This floor had three units served by two elevators. Lin Mo was in 2201, Xue Luhe in 2203, and this couple was right between them.
Seeing people arrive, Xue Luhe instinctively turned her face toward the wall so as not to be recognized.
The couple looked at Xue Luhe with some surprise, then at Lin Mo standing in the doorway, and offered a greeting:
“Hello! Are you moving in?”
Lin Mo exchanged pleasantries:
“Yes, yes! I’m a new tenant. My surname is Lin. Please look after me!”
The couple then looked at the tall, poised Xue Luhe and asked Lin Mo:
“Is this your friend? Why isn’t she coming inside?”
In a moment of desperation, Lin Mo blurted out:
“Ah, she’s not a friend. She’s… here to install the broadband. Staff member. She’s leaving right now.”
The young couple entered their home, puzzled. Their hushed conversation drifted back out:
“Broadband installers… need to have a figure that good?”
Once the couple closed their door and Xue Luhe turned back around, her expression had changed. She was no longer hesitant or conflicted; instead, she wore a smile of supreme confidence.
“Do I look like a broadband installer?”
Lin Mo shook her head. “No.”
The curve of Xue Luhe’s lips deepened, her smile spreading like flowing water.
“You’re quite quick-witted.”
Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, taking the compliment, then immediately pressed on:
“You just said you found something out about the photos. What is it? Tell me already!”
Xue Luhe pointed toward the apartment.
“Invite me in, and I’ll tell you.”
Lin Mo shook her head frantically. “It’s a mess in there. You’re not allowed in.”
Xue Luhe had an epiphany and pointed to 2203 across the hall. “Then come to my place. It’s already been tidied up.”
Lin Mo continued to shake her head. “If you’re using this ‘photo incident’ as bait to lure me in, then forget it. I’m not listening.”
With that, she made a move to close the door, maliciously thinking that if she actually caught her hand this time, she absolutely wouldn’t open the door again!
This time, however, Xue Luhe let her close the door without reaching out to stop it.
She simply said quietly:
“Add me on WeChat. I’ll send it to you.”
The door, halfway closed, suddenly stopped. After a long pause, a pale, slender arm—looking as smooth as a lotus root—reached out from behind the door, holding a phone displaying a QR code.
“Scan me.”
A clear voice came from behind the door, tinged with helpless frustration but also a hidden, cheerful anticipation to know the truth.
It was… a bit too cute.
Xue Luhe scanned the code. The WeChat profile picture was a pink cartoon pig, and the name was: Momo-zi is Super Great!
The bio read: I want to be friends with someone as————cute as you~
…It was truly too cute.
A muffled voice came from behind the door: “Are you done scanning?”
Xue Luhe suppressed the involuntary smile rising in her throat and said seriously, “Done.”
The arm was quickly retracted. In one fluid motion, the phone was pulled back, the door was shut, and the deadbolt clicked into place without a moment’s pause.
Faced with the heavy door, Xue Luhe rubbed her chin. Her shoulders shook as she finally let out a silent laugh.
The phone in her hand chimed. Xue Luhe picked it up, smiling.
“Momo-zi is Super Great!” had accepted your friend request.
Her fading smile instantly widened again; she couldn’t stop herself from grinning.
She felt like teasing her. She couldn’t help it—this simple Momo-zi was just too easy to tease.
Momo-zi is Super Great!:
What happened with the photos?
As Xue Luhe walked into her room across the hall, the corners of her mouth curved up as she typed:
Do you want to know?
Call me ‘Wifey’ once, and I’ll tell you.
