The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 25
Chapter 25
Inside Room 2203, which was decorated in a minimalist grey-and-white palette, Xue Luhe had been sitting on the sofa, but she was now on her feet, pacing back and forth irritably.
From the tablet on the table, piercing insults rang out from time to time:
“Xue Luhe, you big idiot! How could you play this role so badly?!”
“What ‘acting genius’? I see acting so bad it’s haunting. There must be a ghost involved if someone like this can win Movie Queen!”
“Trash drama, trash actor—a perfect match! I hate Xue Luhe so much!”
The voice, usually clear and sweet, was utterly ruthless when saying these things. Xue Luhe clenched her fists tight, walking to and fro like a trapped beast in a cage.
The screen on the computer was completely black, with only the audio transmitting. Sentence after sentence, like poisoned arrows, struck her heart again and again, fueling her fury.
But what made it more stifling was that this anger had nowhere to go!
She couldn’t exactly run next door, knock on Lin Mo’s door, and ask why she was cursing her out, could she?
Even though Lin Mo had used books to block the camera—meaning she had likely discovered the surveillance—this was not something that could be brought out into the open.
Xue Luhe found it impossible to think rationally as the insults continued to pour in:
“Xue Luhe is a fraud!”
“Trash! Just a pile of trash!”
“Psychotic creep!”
Unable to take it anymore, Xue Luhe stopped, turned back, pulled up the surveillance app on the tablet, and deleted it.
The world went silent.
Gritting her teeth, Xue Luhe spitefully smashed the glass on the table into the corner of the wall. Watching the glass shatter into shards, she suddenly let out a self-deprecating laugh, her lips curling into a cold, continuous sneer.
Is this the person I’ve been constantly thinking about and longing for?
She actually hates me this much. As expected, I never deserved to be loved…
Lin Mo finished the movie feeling thoroughly refreshed. She had cursed Xue Luhe the whole way through, though the movie itself was actually quite good.
Afterward, she took a bath in her new home, tidied herself up, put on her newly bought fleece pajamas and a matching hair-protection cap, and went to bed.
An uneventful night passed. The next morning, Lin Mo woke up early, dressed herself carefully, and took a taxi out.
Located in the center of Suzhou, Fanghu Group formerly known as Lin Group—had changed its name a year ago. It primarily developed B2B e-commerce systems and occupied three floors of the most luxurious building in the CBD.
This was the company left behind by the original Lin Mo’s family. Now, however, the company was managed by her uncle’s family. Lin Mo herself held only a 3% stake, receiving annual dividends and attending one shareholder meeting a year before it was all over.
The original Lin Mo had a distant relationship with her parents, who didn’t care about her. They had taken her younger brother overseas to dodge debts after selling off all domestic assets, including the ancestral home.
Consequently, the current Lin Mo had nothing. She had to live under someone else’s roof and rely on her uncle’s whims to get money.
Lin Mo went upstairs and waited in the conference room as directed.
Soon, a well-groomed middle-aged man entered and exchanged a look with her. Beside him was a young boy who asked Lin Mo with a furrowed brow:
“Why aren’t you greeting anyone?”
Lin Mo then realized the middle-aged man must be her uncle, Yue Lian, and the eighteen-year-old boy was his son—her cousin, Yue Huan.
Lin Mo offered a brief explanation: “I’ve been sick lately and didn’t react immediately. Good morning, Uncle!”
Yue Huan let out a cold snort and sat down, while the uncle gave a cold nod and looked away.
The entire shareholder meeting was dull, boring, and completely incomprehensible. Lin Mo spent the time fighting off sleep.
After the meeting, Lin Mo unexpectedly ran into Yue Huan at the elevator.
Yue Huan said, “Lin Mo, I heard your marriage to CEO Xue is just a contract. Is that true? Your family lied to us back then, saying you and CEO Xue were ‘inseparable’ to get her to marry you, but I don’t see it.”
Lin Mo was speechless. “That has nothing to do with you, does it?”
Yue Huan, however, was very interested. He wore a haughty expression and raised his chin. “Don’t try to play tricks on our family. Pretending to be sick… I think you’re just making trouble! Since CEO Xue can’t be your shield anymore, just you wait. I’ll get my dad to kick you out sooner or later.”
Lin Mo rolled her eyes and turned to wait for the elevator, not wanting to deal with this attention-seeking boy.
But Yue Huan got more worked up as he spoke, circling to the front of Lin Mo. “I also heard that CEO Xue beat you so hard you turned stupid. I guess that ‘loving couple’ act was just for us outsiders. In reality, someone like CEO Xue could never actually like you!”
Lin Mo didn’t want to waste words on a child, so she snapped back directly:
“Are you her fan? At least I’ve slept with her. You, on the other hand, will never sleep with her in this lifetime—your gender is wrong. Blehhh!”
In her mind, Lin Mo added: Sleeping in the same bed counts as sleeping together. That’s not a lie!
As expected, Yue Huan was enraged. His eyes turned red, and he gritted his teeth, clenching his fists. “Don’t get ahead of yourself! I bet within a year, CEO Xue will definitely divorce you. By then, you’ll just be a piece of ‘damaged goods’ that nobody wants!”
Lin Mo remained perfectly calm. She turned and gave a critical look at Yue Huan’s lower half.
“…Huh? It’s the year 2025—how am I still hearing terms like ‘damaged goods’? The Qing Dynasty is over, little Enoki mushroom!”
Yue Huan: “You—you!”
His hands shook with rage, his face turned red, and his hair seemed to stand on end. Lin Mo found it hilarious.
“What? Am I wrong? How much bigger than an Enoki mushroom could you possibly be? A pity, a pity—Xue Luhe doesn’t eat mushrooms, otherwise I’d use you as a side dish with some wine.”
“Ah—you bitch!”
Yue Huan suddenly lunged forward, reaching out to grab the long hair tied behind Lin Mo’s head, but he caught only air.
Lin Mo spun away to dodge his attack. Suddenly, she pointed nimbly behind him with a shocked expression:
“Oh my! Look, Xue Luhe is here!”
Yue Huan immediately spun around. His face shifted from fury to joy in an instant, like a live performance of Sichuan Opera face-changing.
When he realized there was no one behind him, he knew he’d been tricked. By the time he turned back, Lin Mo was already in the elevator.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Lin Mo smiled brightly and waved at the Yue Huan outside:
“Goodbye, kiddo! See you tomorrow~”
Everyone knows that “See You Tomorrow” is a common nickname for Enoki mushrooms (because they are hard to digest).
Yue Huan’s face turned deep red, looking like a volcano about to erupt. He was almost purple.
Just then, chirping voices came from nearby:
“It’s Xue Luhe! Why is she here?! Ahhh!”
Several employees looked over, their excitement obvious.
This was Fanghu Group—why would Xue Luhe be here? Was this another one of Lin Mo’s schemes to make him look foolish?
Yue Huan forced himself not to look back. With a stern face, he said to the approaching employees:
“What are you doing? Get back to work!”
The employees didn’t even acknowledge him. They screamed and rushed right past him, completely ignoring the chairman’s son.
Yue Huan was fuming. He turned around to scold them, but his eyes landed on a tall, elegant figure.
The figure was leaning against the glass wall of the conference room. Her curves were beautiful, and even her casual posture was captivating.
Yue Huan immediately forgot about the others and rushed up himself:
“CEO Xue! Hello, I am Chairman Yue’s son, Yue Huan. I’ve liked you for a long time!”
Xue Luhe put a finger to her lips, her smile as fluid as water. Her long eyes swept over him, and the look alone turned Yue Huan’s legs to jelly.
Just as he was about to push further and ask for her contact information, he heard that ethereal, beautiful voice say:
“Oh, it’s you, Enoki Mushroom.”
Yue Huan: “??? Fuck!”
Xue Luhe’s smile reached her eyes. Though beautiful, Yue Huan could tell it was a blatant mockery!
It seemed she had seen the scene just now—how Lin Mo had shut him down—and found it amusing.
Yue Huan could talk back to Lin Mo, but he couldn’t find his voice in front of Xue Luhe. With nothing to say, he slunk away in disgrace.
But… weren’t Lin Mo and Xue Luhe supposed to have a bad relationship? Why would Xue Luhe use Lin Mo’s insult against him?
Were the rumors wrong? Did that Lin Mo really have enough charm to make Xue Luhe stand up for her?
Lin Mo didn’t care what those people thought. She was just doing what needed to be done for the day; if there were dividends to take, she took them.
However, she had a new idea: she needed to find a job. Earning money with her own two hands was more grounding than relying on others’ whims.
Back home, Lin Mo opened a recruitment app and looked through it for a long time. In her previous world, because of her poor health, she had always worked as a clerk in small companies—lots of busywork, no travel, and no growth. She wanted to try marketing or sales.
She tried to organize her resume, but it was difficult. She had no work experience in this world, and she wasn’t even sure which university she had graduated from. She had no choice but to call Lu Ruoruo.
Lu Ruoruo didn’t have the specific details either. She blurted out:
“Oh, you’re looking for a job? What kind of job? Come work at my family’s company! What, you don’t want to work for someone in our social circle? Are you embarrassed too? Hahahaha! Just kidding. Let me tell you, for stuff about your school days, just ask Xi Shen directly. You guys went to the same school!”
Lin Mo was a bit reluctant, but she had no other option, so she contacted Xi Shen.
To her surprise, Xi Shen answered the phone and agreed readily:
“Let’s have dinner together another day. I’ll help you look over your resume.”
Lin Mo felt uneasy. “Can’t we just discuss it online?”
Xi Shen laughed. “Some things need to be said in person to be clear.”
Lin Mo thought it was just a polite brush-off, but three days later, Xi Shen took the initiative to find her.
“I’m downstairs at your place. What do you want to eat? My treat.”
Lin Mo felt bad. While rushing to get ready, she suggested:
“I can’t let you do that. It should be my treat, as a thank-you for the career planning.”
Xi Shen agreed quite readily:
“Sure. I know a French restaurant nearby with a great atmosphere. Let’s go together?”
Lin Mo felt something was off, but she couldn’t put her finger on what. She agreed and hurried to get ready.
She took out two outfits and compared them for a long time. One was the fresh, lively cotton-and-linen dress she liked lately; the other was an ordinary shirt, pants, and jacket.
Before heading out, she chose the plain outfit and put the dress back.
In the underground parking garage, Lin Mo and Xi Shen exchanged a few words before getting into the car.
Meanwhile, in a corner of the parking lot, Xue Luhe—who had just driven in—sat behind her window, silently watching the scene.
The veins on the hand gripping the steering wheel stood out clearly.
