The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 22
Chapter 22
On the day Lin Mo moved, a light rain began to fall. The sky was gloomy, shadows of trees swayed in the wind, and the rattan hanging chair in the yard swung wildly.
Lin Mo smiled at Lu Ruoruo, who had come to help, and said:
“Why do I feel like this isn’t a good omen?”
Lu Ruoruo was busy directing the movers to carry things out. Hearing this, she slapped Lin Mo on the shoulder:
“Don’t talk nonsense! It’s a housewarming. Watch your mouth!”
Lin Mo hadn’t actually told Xi Shen in advance, but Xi Shen had indeed received the news long ago. She was currently standing on the porch steps, watching the movers carry boxes out.
Hearing Lin Mo’s words, she gave a gentle smile:
“How could it be? You’ll definitely have good luck.”
Lin Mo didn’t have much to her name originally, but after a period of frantic shopping, she had packed two large trunks just for clothes, not to mention other small items. With a shopaholic best friend like Lu Ruoruo, she couldn’t simplify things even if she wanted to.
Once the items were loaded, Lin Mo held an umbrella while Lu Ruoruo ducked under it. They both got into Lu Ruoruo’s car.
Lin Mo leaned out and shouted to Xi Shen:
“Don’t come over! I can handle the new place myself, really! If you show up with such a big fuss, Xue Luhe will definitely find out!”
Xi Shen had planned to follow them in her own car, but seeing that she was being “rejected” by Lin Mo, she spread her hands somewhat awkwardly:
“Do you really not need me to help you unpack?”
Lin Mo shook her head vigorously and then smiled:
“Anyway, thanks for the place and the meals during this time. Once I get settled, I’ll transfer the rent and food money to you at market rate. In the future, let’s try not to see each other if we can help it!”
Seeing the smile gradually fade from Xi Shen’s face, Lin Mo quickly tried to fix it:
“It’s not that I have an issue with you. I just feel like my brain isn’t quite right lately. I need to recover at home. It’s better if I see fewer people.”
Lu Ruoruo poked Lin Mo in the waist, unable to watch. “You’d be better off not explaining. The more you explain, the more it sounds like you’re disgusted by her.”
Xi Shen’s smile wasn’t particularly pretty, but she still said:
“Then I’ll visit you once you’re settled.”
The moving truck led the way, with Lu Ruoruo’s car following behind. The rain grew heavier, and the driver turned on the wipers, which moved with a rhythmic swish-swish.
Lin Mo was starting to feel drowsy watching the wipers when she suddenly heard Lu Ruoruo’s voice:
“Momo… do you really have no feelings left for Xi Shen? Why are you so unwilling to let her visit? Is it really not because you’re hurt?”
Lin Mo found the question strange. Her reason for not wanting Xi Shen to visit was the same as her reason for not wanting to be “sisters” with Mu Fei!
Naturally, it was because staying away from the main cast was the only way to stay safe. As a “vicious female supporting character” destined to be cannon fodder, her best bet for survival was to have no involvement with the leads!
But she couldn’t tell Lu Ruoruo that, so she wrinkled her nose and lied:
“Even though I have amnesia, my body seems to remember the past. When I see Xi Shen, my body instinctively rejects her, so I don’t want anything to do with her.”
Lu Ruoruo looked at Lin Mo with pity:
“It must be because she hurt you too deeply in the past; your body has developed muscle memory. Well, that’s fine. Since you’ve lost your memory, start fresh. A girl as excellent as you—why hang yourself from one flower when you should have an entire field? After we finish moving today, let’s go to a bar. I’ll introduce you to a few ‘flowers,’ how about it?”
Seeing that Lin Mo didn’t look interested, she continued to egg her on:
“The girls I know are all top-tier. There’s even one who looks like Xue Luhe! Are you not tempted?”
Lin Mo: “…I’m afraid that if I see her face, I’ll get hard.”
Lu Ruoruo’s eyes swept suggestively toward Lin Mo’s lower half: “You have that function?”
Lin Mo gave a “dead” smile:
“I mean my fists will get hard. Left hook, right hook, uppercut—one harder than the last! The moment I see Xue Luhe’s face, I can’t control these hands!”
Just then, the car pulled into the underground garage of the new residential complex. The two got out and watched the movers ferry items to the elevator.
The area by the B2 elevator was soon piled high with boxes. Lin Mo, carrying a small bag, walked toward the elevator while still complaining to Lu Ruoruo:
“Seriously, my biggest regret is that back at that villa, I didn’t take the chance to land a few punches on Big Creep Xue’s face while she was sleeping. I was too cowardly back then—one look from her and my legs went weak. It’s different now. Now I’m a normal person with my own hands, feet, and friends. If she stood in front of me right now, I wouldn’t say a word. I’d give her a taste of Wing Chun, Muay Thai, and Jeet Kune Do. It wouldn’t be over until I cracked her head open!”
Since her first victory—sending “Big Creep Xue” to the police station—Lin Mo’s favorite hobby lately was “tough talk.” She would imagine using all sorts of martial arts against the creep in her head, and the more she thought about it, the happier she became.
As they reached the elevator, Lu Ruoruo suddenly tugged on Lin Mo’s sleeve.
Lin Mo: “Why are you pulling me? I’m not finished. After I pin her to the wall and knock her out, I’ll call the police, then call some of her biggest fan-club leaders and explain every single creepy thing she’s done… Just thinking about it is so satisfying, hahahaha!”
Lu Ruoruo’s voice trembled: “No… look over there…”
Lin Mo looked over and instantly froze.
Standing by the side of the elevator shaft was a tall, slender figure.
It… it was actually the very person she had been “beating up” in her imagination for the last ten minutes—Xue Luhe, the Big Creep herself!
Xue Luhe was wearing an ice-blue long dress under a black robe, her pale wrists striking to the eye. An assistant stood behind her, holding an umbrella and a large bag.
Her gaze was fixed on the distance, appearing slightly lost in thought, as if she hadn’t noticed Lin Mo and the others yet.
Having just talked smack about her, Lin Mo’s heart was now racing with fear.
Lu Ruoruo stealthily pointed at Xue Luhe and then at Lin Mo’s hand, as if to say: Didn’t you just say you were going to hit her if you saw her? Why aren’t you hitting her?
Lin Mo shook her head slightly, grabbed Lu Ruoruo’s arm, and dashed into the elevator, hiding behind a pile of boxes with only her head poking out.
She hoped that if she hid well, Xue Luhe wouldn’t see her, and prayed the doors would close quickly so she could escape.
However, Xue Luhe’s voice—as elegant and resonant as a cello—followed her like a dark cloud, echoing right into the elevator.
“Lin Mo.”
Lin Mo childishly covered her ears, looking like she was about to cry, which left Lu Ruoruo speechless.
Then, Xue Luhe’s voice drifted in again like a ghost:
“Lu Ruoruo, bring her out.”
Lin Mo: !!!
She immediately opened her eyes and gave Lu Ruoruo the most innocent, pleading, watery-eyed look possible, shaking her head frantically.
“Please, please, please! Don’t take me out there, I’ll die!” Lin Mo whispered urgently.
Lu Ruoruo was caught in a dilemma. She glanced outside the elevator, then back at Lin Mo. Finally, she gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and slammed the “Close Door” button!
Lin Mo slapped her hands together excitedly:
“Good job, Ruoruo! For that one move, you’re my best friend for life!”
The elevator doors slowly slid shut. Lin Mo watched the gap narrow to a sliver, and only then did her heart start to descend from her throat.
Lu Ruoruo’s hand was shaking uncontrollably. Lin Mo grabbed her hand to comfort her, but then heard a ding.
The elevator doors… opened again.
In the slowly revealing frame, Xue Luhe stood at the threshold of the luggage-filled elevator, her brow furrowed, her eyes locked onto Lin Mo.
“Come out. I have something to ask you.”
Lin Mo’s heart hammered against her ribs. she was both anxious and angry—anxious that the movers hadn’t come to rescue her yet, and angry at herself for being so pathetic that her legs still went weak at the sight of her.
However, her gaze shifted, and she suddenly remembered the awkward, pleading look Xue Luhe had when the security guards caught her.
Yes, perfect. Just thinking about that image made Lin Mo almost burst out laughing. When she looked at the beautiful, haughty woman in front of her again, she didn’t seem quite so terrifying.
So, she raised her voice as much as she could and said with disdain:
“I have nothing to say to you.”
Xue Luhe fell silent for a moment. Then, acting surprisingly like a normal human, she took out her phone and said in a level tone:
“At least give me your new number. Add me on WeChat.”
Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, channeling her inner arrogance, and said coldly:
“No. In the future, let’s contact each other via Message in a Bottle!”
Just as she said this, the movers arrived with the last item. Two hulking men squeezed Xue Luhe to the side and entered the elevator.
Lin Mo immediately held down the “Close Door” button. Under Xue Luhe’s stunned and disbelieving gaze, the elevator doors slowly and silently closed.
They shut that beautiful face out.
Lin Mo lowered her head. First her shoulders began to twitch, then her arms, until her whole body was shaking.
Lu Ruoruo watched from the side, worried. She wondered if the girl was having some kind of panic attack. After all, she’d heard that people with amnesia sometimes had unstable temperaments.
She struggled to move through the luggage to Lin Mo’s side and patted her shoulder:
“What’s wrong? Are you that scared?”
Lin Mo suddenly exploded into a fit of laughter:
“Hahahahahaha!”
The outburst nearly made Lu Ruoruo fall backward. She looked at Lin Mo with sheer terror, as if looking at a monster.
“So satisfying! So satisfying! SO! SATISFYING! Hahahahahaha!”
Lin Mo stood in the elevator, laughing toward the ceiling, her whole body trembling with mirth.
Lu Ruoruo was used to her sudden “madness” by now, but the two movers were innocent bystanders. Seeing this, their expressions became very strange.
Lin Mo was on cloud nine. She never expected Xue Luhe to ask for her number, and she had actually—firmly—rejected her!
The whole situation was just so… comfortable!
Lin Mo laughed until her cheeks were stiff. She turned and grabbed Lu Ruoruo’s arm, shaking it:
“Don’t you think it’s satisfying? Xue Luhe asked me for my number just now, and I didn’t give it! She wants my number? She can eat farts! Who wants that creep’s number anyway!”
Lu Ruoruo nodded repeatedly, pulling her arm away.
“But aren’t you afraid of making her angry? To be honest, when she called my name just now, my whole body shook. You have no idea how scary that woman is!”
Lin Mo thought to herself: I know exactly how scary she is. She gets scarier as the story goes on.
“Regardless of whether she gets angry, I’m going to enjoy the win first! She’s a big shot with a thousand things to do every day. There’s no way she’d drop everything just to hunt me down, right?”
The elevator doors opened on the 22nd floor of Lin Mo’s new apartment.
Lin Mo and Lu Ruoruo were chatting and laughing as they waited for the movers to take the items out. Only then did the two of them step out.
Then, Lin Mo looked up, and the smile froze on her face.
Was she cursed today? Whatever she feared came true!
Xue Luhe was standing by the window in the hallway, her clothes fluttering slightly in the draft, her deep eyes looking over.
Lin Mo’s mouth went dry. She asked:
“Why are you here?”
Xue Luhe’s gaze drifted to the side, indicating the apartment next door:
“I just bought a small unit. 2203.”
Lin Mo, clutching the key to 2201, felt her entire world crumble.
