The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Lin Mo was in a great mood all day. After dinner, she hopped on a call with Lu Ruoruo to vent and gloat.
“Do you have any idea how satisfying that moment was?! I was just—hahahaha! I can’t even describe it. Why is it so satisfying to mess with Xue Luhe? Serves her right for having a brain cramp and dressing like that to sneak around the villa. Thinking back on it, she’s such a creep!”
Lu Ruoruo echoed her sentiment but remained puzzled. “But seriously, what is she even after? She’s a big-shot CEO and an international award-winning actress. Isn’t she afraid of trending for getting arrested? Just to come see you? That’s too absurd. No way—she must be in love with you!”
Lin Mo scoffed. “Love my ass. I just want her to stay far away from me. Being loved by a creep like that would be a nightmare. Who wants to be stalked every day? I don’t have Stockholm Syndrome. I actually hoped she’d end up on the trending searches at the police station. Let the whole country laugh at her—now that would be even more satisfying! Hahahaha! Big creep, you finally had your day! Hahahaha!”
However, things didn’t turn out as perfectly as Lin Mo imagined. Xue Luhe must have used some kind of influence, as she was taken away after only an hour at the station without a single record left behind.
Lin Mo found out through the security guard. The guard seemed quite understanding about it.
“She’s such a pretty young lady,” he said. “Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. There’s no need to give her a criminal record, especially since no one was actually hurt, right?”
Hearing this, Lin Mo pouted and said disdainfully, “Who says I wasn’t hurt? I’m deeply traumatized! I’m terrified of being watched while I swim. Sir, do you know why I live in a villa? Because the private pool is supposed to be safe! Who would’ve thought I’d be stalked in my own home? My heart is broken—shattered into tiny pieces! Sir, if I cried to the police like this, do you think they’d bring that person back?”
The guard gave her a strange look, unsure how to respond, and found an excuse to leave.
Lin Mo walked to the villa’s front gate and looked around. Seeing the low artistic fence, she walked over to the exterior and peered through the slats. She clicked her tongue.
From this angle, most of the indoor pool was visible.
When Xue Luhe stood here dressed in black, what was she thinking? And why didn’t she run when the security came?
Was she planning to break in, drag Lin Mo out of the water, and chop her up on a cutting board?
The more Lin Mo thought about it, the more frightened she became. Even in the warm autumn breeze, she shivered.
She called Xi Shen. “Hi, Xi Shen. Would you mind if I made some… minor modifications to your villa?”
Xi Shen, of course, had no objections. Lin Mo didn’t waste a second, hiring a construction team and giving them full control.
By the end of the afternoon, the perimeter wall was completely transformed.
Lin Mo stood with her hands on her hips, looking at the wall with satisfaction. The low artistic fences were gone, replaced by high, thick brick walls topped with rolls of barbed wire.
It looked incredibly sharp and painful.
Try it again, Xue Luhe! Come on, climb over if you dare! Prick yourself to death, you little creep!
A few days later, while Lin Mo was doing yoga in her bedroom, the doorbell rang.
She went to open it and froze.
Standing on the left was Xi Shen, which wasn’t surprising. But the petite, fragile-looking woman on the right… was actually Mu Fei?
Mu Fei had a slight smile on her face and nodded politely to Lin Mo, appearing very friendly.
Xi Shen was carrying a large box. “Haven’t had dinner yet, right? We’re here to eat with you.”
Lin Mo blinked, completely confused by this play. Why would Xi Shen bring Mu Fei over for dinner?
But since this was Xi Shen’s place, Lin Mo couldn’t say much. She stepped aside to let them in.
As soon as Mu Fei entered, she said to Xi Shen, “I’d like some water.”
While Xi Shen went to the other room to pour water, Mu Fei turned to Lin Mo and said with a beaming smile:
“I heard… you have amnesia, right?”
Lin Mo nodded blankly.
Mu Fei immediately handed over her phone, showing a post on the screen. “Take a look at this. Does it ring a bell?”
Lin Mo took the phone. With one look, her eyes narrowed, followed by a look of confusion. “This must be a rumor, right? How could I have done something like this? I have no memory of it at all.”
The post read:
“Lin Mo, the daughter of the Lin Group in Suzhou, hired us brothers to kidnap a woman named Mu Fei. We followed her orders and delivered the person to a hotel, but then she backed out! She won’t reply to messages and is withholding our final payment!”
The post included screenshots of text messages—the exact same messages Lin Mo had seen on her phone.
This meant… the original Lin Mo really did hire people to kidnap Mu Fei!
However, the current Lin Mo was completely in the dark. She cursed herself for not reading the “schemes and plots” sections carefully before transmigrating; she had skimmed those parts, leaving her in this passive position.
At this point, she had to rely on her superior acting skills.
Lin Mo put on an innocent expression and waited for the other to continue.
Mu Fei looked gentle and calm, her smile brightening the room. She shook her head and said, “I was indeed kidnapped, but it wasn’t successful in the end. I don’t believe the claims in this post anyway. Don’t worry, we’re all friends here.”
Lin Mo thought to herself: I don’t want to be your ‘sister.’ I want to be as far away from you as possible. Because being far from you means being far from Xue Luhe, which means a peaceful life.
On the surface, she returned a simple smile. “I really don’t know who has a grudge against me to do something like this to frame me.”
Mu Fei smiled. “How could that be? You’ve always had a fiery personality and are very proactive in pursuing happiness. Unlike me, who just waits for others to find me. Everyone will like you.”
Lin Mo gave a forced laugh, pretending not to hear the thorns in her words, keeping her face calm.
Mu Fei was clearly hinting at Lin Mo’s past obsession with Xi Shen while subtly bragging that Xi Shen was the one pursuing her.
Mu Fei observed Lin Mo’s expression but couldn’t read anything. So, she pushed harder:
“When I was kidnapped at the hotel, Xi Shen was the one who saved me. I was so grateful to her then. That’s why I specially hired a five-star chef to prepare today’s meal, featuring all of Xi Shen’s favorite flavors. Consider this dinner my way of thanking her!”
Lin Mo was speechless. She didn’t really want to talk to Mu Fei, but seeing her marking her territory like this made Lin Mo’s “thespian” fingers itch. She felt like poking back.
“I heard I was classmates with Xi Shen for ten years, so I’m sure this meal will suit my tastes too. Thank you so much.”
Mu Fei’s expression soured. She cleared her throat. “Ahem… no problem.”
After an unpleasant dinner, Mu Fei pulled Xi Shen to leave. Lin Mo didn’t bother seeing them out, but she called out to Xi Shen at the door.
“Miss Xi Shen, wait a moment.”
Xi Shen and Mu Fei turned around simultaneously—one smiling, the other looking secretly annoyed.
Lin Mo said, “I want to move out as soon as possible. Lu Ruoruo is already helping me look for a place. Thank you for your help lately. You’ve been coming by quite often, so I won’t bother you when I move in a few days. I don’t want to be a nuisance.”
Xi Shen looked stunned for a moment before forcing a smile back onto her face. “You’re moving? Then I definitely have to be there to help out. Tell me directly when you’re moving.”
Mu Fei tightened her grip on her hand but still smiled at Lin Mo. “That’s right. A girl alone with no one to rely on—you really should let Xi Shen help you.”
Xi Shen turned to give Mu Fei a tender glance, and Mu Fei smiled back. The two seemed perfectly in sync, as if only they existed in each other’s eyes.
Lin Mo was over it. She waved them off. “Really, it’s not necessary. Anyway, you guys go ahead. I won’t see you out. Bye! Goodnight!”
She finished in one breath and retreated to her room, unwilling to look at the “greasy” couple for another second. Looking at them made her skin crawl.
Outside the villa, Mu Fei looked at Xi Shen and whispered, “How is she… still like this even after losing her memory?”
Xi Shen wore a faint smile, but her eyes weren’t on Mu Fei. She said softly, “She’s still very different from before.”
Mu Fei narrowed her eyes slightly in displeasure, but then forced a sweet smile.
Late at night, everything was silent except for the sound of insects in the small garden.
In the spacious, cold villa, Xue Luhe stood alone outside the fourth-floor master bedroom.
She was wearing that same burgundy slip nightdress, holding her pillow, and wearing wooden clogs—everything was exactly the same as it had been half a month ago.
But she didn’t want to open the door. Her hand rested on the doorknob, but she didn’t turn it.
She knew there was nothing alive behind that door. It was cold and empty—a bit too lifeless.
Maybe I should get a pet, she thought. Keep it in this bedroom. Let it stay inside every day.
It would be best to break its little legs… so it could never escape… to see its big, crying eyes, to see it beg and plead, to see its regret and pain…
How enjoyable would that be?
Xue Luhe’s lips curled up slightly, but then they turned downward into a frown.
She clutched her pillow and turned away.
The wooden clogs made hollow tapping sounds in the hallway.
Tap. Tap. Tap…
Her slender figure cast a long, thin shadow on the polished floor. In the darkness, it looked like a monster lurking, waiting to strike.
Xue Luhe went back to the third-floor study and lay down on the wide sofa, staring up at the artistic chandelier.
Why hadn’t she noticed before how empty the whole house was? It didn’t feel like a place where people lived, but more like…
Xue Luhe stopped that train of thought. She took out her phone and messaged Xu Lu:
“Keep a close eye on Lin Mo. Also, how is the investigation into that matter going?”
It was already 1:00 AM, but Xu Lu was still awake and replied quickly:
“Lin Mo is moving soon. I am monitoring her closely. New clues have emerged regarding that matter. Please take a look.”
A link followed.
Xue Luhe clicked it. It was the post from the thugs online, accusing Lin Mo of not paying the balance.
Xue Luhe looked at the post in silence before issuing a command:
“Delete it.”
Xu Lu replied instantly: “Understood.”
Xue Luhe was now completely wide awake. She sat up, pulled her chair to the desk, and opened an encrypted file on her tablet.
The file had no title. Inside were only cryptic short phrases, such as:
-
Mu Fei kidnapping attempted
-
Grand Hyatt Hotel 3102, Gold
-
Xi Shen involved
Xue Luhe looked at them and added two lines at the bottom:
-
Lin Mo hired thugs to kidnap???
-
Kidnappers claim it was successful???
Staring at the question marks she had instinctively typed, Xue Luhe’s eyes grew deep and dark. Her fingers uncontrollably typed:
Did I wrong her???
