The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Lin Mo slept incredibly soundly in the new villa. She felt more relaxed than she had been since the moment she crossed over into this world.
No more living in fear, no more waking up in the middle of the night to find Xue Luhe’s arm draped over her, and definitely no more sharing a bed. Every cell in her body felt liberated.
The next morning, Lin Mo woke up to the sound of birds and the scent of flowers. She was highly satisfied with the clean, modern decor of the empty house. She headed into the master ensuite to freshen up.
Lin Mo had very few clothes of her own. When she escaped, she only brought a few of the original character’s eccentric pieces, leaving behind the mountain of designer labels Xue Luhe had spent a fortune on. She pulled out a lime-green sweatshirt with a skull print and paired it with jeans. The pattern was loud, but at least the color was fresh.
A knock at the door made her heart skip a beat. For a second, she feared it was Xue Luhe. She took a deep breath and opened the door to find the round-faced, sharp-chinned Lu Ruoruo grinning at her with a bag of breakfast.
“Wow, breakfast!” Lin Mo exclaimed.
“Asparagus bacon rolls and cheese sandwiches, plus hand-ground coffee! I remember your tastes perfectly, aren’t you touched?” Ruoruo began setting the food out.
Lin Mo smiled, but internally she thought: Actually, my taste is soup dumplings and fried dough sticks… Still, she couldn’t act too out of character. Ruoruo knew the original Lin Mo better than anyone; being too different might cause suspicion.
As they ate, Ruoruo chirped, “I have a surprise for you today! Also, your family’s company is having its shareholders’ meeting soon. Are you going?”
Lin Mo looked worried. “I’m afraid the moment I show my face, Xue Luhe will snatch me back.”
“As long as you stay in the public eye, even the almighty Xue Luhe can’t kidnap you from a CBD office building! There are cameras everywhere,” Ruoruo winked. “By the way… what’s the deal with you two? Did you actually win her over? I saw how obsessed she looked with you the other day!”
Lin Mo bit into her sandwich. “What deal? There is no deal. She’s a domestic-abusing psycho. She doesn’t like me, and I hate her.”
The Arrival of the Protagonist
A sudden knock at the front villa door startled Lin Mo. She almost bolted for the bedroom, but Ruoruo went to open it, shouting back, “Mo Mo, come see who’s here! I told you it would be a surprise!”
Lin Mo limped to the door and came face-to-face with a woman exuding an aura of sophisticated elegance. The woman had sharp, chin-length hair, refined clothing, and striking light brown eyes.
“And you are…?” Lin Mo asked weakly.
Ruoruo clapped her hands. “Incredible! Mo Mo, did you really forget your beloved Xi Shen? You two were entangled for ten years, and you wake up and forget her?”
Xi Shen! The elegant, black-bellied “protagonist” of the original novel who eventually brings down Xue Luhe!
Xi Shen nodded politely. “Lin Mo forgot me? I suppose I’ve been away too long lately.”
Ruoruo forced them to sit together on the sofa, gushing about how well-matched they looked. Xi Shen noticed that Lin Mo’s face showed only confusion—no shyness, no joy. Usually, Lin Mo would be beaming if someone suggested they were a couple. This lack of reaction piqued Xi Shen’s interest.
“What was our relationship exactly?” Lin Mo asked, trying to gather information. She only remembered the broad strokes of the novel because of her tragic ending.
Ruoruo filled in the gaps: “You’ve liked Xi Shen for nearly twenty years! You went to the same schools since kindergarten. Everyone in Su City knew about your pursuit of her. I feel bad for Xi Shen now that you’ve forgotten!”
Lin Mo realized it was the classic “childhood friend” trope. She glanced at Xi Shen. “Is this house safe? Will Xue Luhe find me?”
Xi Shen smiled warmly, her presence much more approachable than Xue Luhe’s. “This is my private villa in the suburbs. She shouldn’t be able to find it, and even if she did, she couldn’t get in.”
The Uninvited Guest
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door—urgent and rhythmic. Lin Mo ducked into a guest room while Ruoruo opened the door. It was Xi Shen, who had stepped out for a call, returning with a woman in a business suit.
The woman was Xue Luhe’s assistant, Xu Lu. She demanded to search the villa, claiming Xi Shen had kidnapped someone from the Xue household.
“This is private property,” Xi Shen said sternly. “I’ve let you look inside as a courtesy to Ms. Xue, but that’s the limit. You can report that back to your boss.”
Xu Lu tried to take photos, but Xi Shen blocked her. “No photos. If you don’t comply, I’ll call the police.”
“Are you sure you want to make an enemy of my boss?” Xu Lu asked.
Xi Shen smirked. “In this world, who would dare be your boss’s friend?”
After Xu Lu left, Lin Mo emerged. “I thought you said she wouldn’t find us!”
“They must have a tracking method,” Xi Shen mused.
Later that day, a search of Lin Mo’s belongings revealed a button-sized GPS tracker hidden inside her bag. Lin Mo was horrified. “Is she a character in a spy movie?!”
The Peeping Tom
Over the next few days, Lin Mo stayed hidden. She got a new phone, a new ID, and even a new haircut a chic, curly bob that matched her fresh, light-colored wardrobe. She looked like a completely different person.
One afternoon, while Lin Mo was enjoying a swim in the villa’s pool, she felt a sense of freedom. She had never been able to swim much in her past life due to a weak heart.
Outside the villa’s perimeter wall, a figure in a black hoodie, mask, and sunglasses lingered. Through a gap in the decorative fence, the figure watched the girl in the pool Lin Mo looked like a graceful white fish darting through the blue water.
Suddenly, a security guard shouted, “Who are you! Stop right there!”
The figure tried to run but was caught. The guard pinned the “stalker” down. “What are you doing? Peeping? You pervert! I’m calling the police!”
The figure, in a muffled, raspy voice, said: “Don’t call the police. Call the person inside. She knows me.”
The guard knocked on the door. Lin Mo, wrapped in a thick robe with wet hair, opened it. “What happened, officer?”
“We caught a peeper outside your wall,” the guard said, pointing to the hooded figure. “She claims you know her. Take a look.”
The hooded figure slowly removed her sunglasses. Lin Mo stared into those familiar, sharp phoenix eyes with the faint tear-shaped mole. It was Xue Luhe. But right now, those eyes were filled with an unprecedented amount of… embarrassment.
“Well?” the guard asked. “Do you know her?”
Xue Luhe’s gaze held a hint of a plea.
Lin Mo took a deep breath and shouted at the top of her lungs: “I! DON’T! KNOW! HER!”
The guard was taken height. “Alright then! Miss, come with us to the station!”
Xue Luhe looked more shocked than if she had seen an alien landing. For Lin Mo, it was the most satisfying moment of her life.
“Officer!” Lin Mo added with a huge grin. “This psycho is terrifying! Please interrogate her thoroughly to see if she’s committed other crimes. Charge her to the fullest extent of the law!”
As Xue Luhe was led away to the security cart, she turned back, her eyes blazing with fury. “You… just you wait!”
Lin Mo stuck out her tongue, made a face, and slammed the door shut, locking it tight. She ran back to the pool, laughing hysterically. “Hahahaha! The tables have turned! You trapped me, and now I’ve sent you to the station! Freedom!”
Xi Shen walked in to find Lin Mo splashing wildly in the pool, her face radiant and full of life. “What happened? You seem happy.”
“I’ve officially revolted!” Lin Mo shouted, diving back into the water. Xi Shen watched her, a spark of genuine admiration appearing in her light brown eyes.
