The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Lin Mo’s verbal sparring had been a “lose-lose” situation for both sides, yet she remained standing there, blinking her large, innocent eyes and smiling radiantly at Xue Luhe.
Xue Luhe’s expression shifted several times before she finally chose to… pick up a nearby throw pillow, toss it at Lin Mo, and snap: “Shut up.”
Lin Mo curiously hugged the Union Jack pillow, watching as Xue Luhe stepped behind the bar and began to mix drinks. Bottle after bottle of unrecognizable foreign spirits were poured into the shaker, followed by fruit juices and a squeeze of lemon. Xue Luhe’s movements were efficient—not flashy like a professional bartender, but possessing a natural, effortless elegance.
For a moment, Lin Mo felt the “Big Psycho” wasn’t so psycho after all. She felt like a guest at a bar, and the atmosphere was quite relaxed. Life changes so fast, she thought. Last night I felt hopeless; today I’m having a peaceful well, superficially peaceful drink with Xue Luhe.
Xue Luhe pushed a pink cocktail toward Lin Mo. Though her face was expressionless, Lin Mo caught a glimmer of pride in her eyes.
Lin Mo took a small sip. The pink liquid was crystal clear, and the texture was exactly like its color: light, smooth, and slightly effervescent. She squinted in satisfaction and gave a thumbs-up. “Mmm, it’s delicious! You’re amazing at this!”
The corners of Xue Luhe’s mouth twitched upward slightly. “It’s my own creation.”
“What’s it called?”
“…I haven’t thought of one.” To Xue Luhe, such trifles didn’t need names. She raised an eyebrow as she watched Lin Mo furrow her brow in deep thought.
“Other cocktails have such nice names—Long Island Iced Tea, Bloody Mary, Mojito… this one has a sweet peach taste and the alcohol is very subtle. It suits a cute, sparkling name…” Lin Mo rambled on as she sipped, finishing the glass quickly. At the bottom, she saw two sprigs of rosemary. A flash of inspiration hit her. “How about The Peach of Lost Mo?”
Xue Luhe frowned. “The End of the Lost Escape?” (A homophone in Chinese).
Lin Mo explained the characters one by one. Xue Luhe nodded solemnly. “Fine. Whatever you like for such a small thing.”
Lin Mo smirked inwardly. She clearly cares a lot. Xue Luhe had listened intently and looked quite satisfied, yet still insisted it was a “small thing.” Maybe she’s not entirely evil—just layered? Or a bit of a tsundere?
Xue Luhe soon stood up to leave. “Don’t run around. I’ll be back tonight.”
Lin Mo followed her with her eyes as the tall figure exited the villa and entered a car waiting with a driver. Only when the car disappeared down the driveway did Lin Mo breathe a sigh of relief. Finally, she’s actually gone!
She stared at the closed gates of the villa through the window, longing for freedom. She saw a few gardeners working next door, but that was it. Just as she was about to turn away, she heard a car horn. A luxury car she had never seen before pulled into the driveway.
Her phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number appeared, set to disappear after reading:
“Open the door and come out. Get in the car. I am sent by the Boss to rescue you.”
Lin Mo’s pupils dilated. She looked out the window and saw the driver nod politely to her.
The Party and the Accusation
At a star-studded party, the crowd swirled around Xue Luhe like moths to a flame. For most, speaking just a few words to her was enough to brag about for a lifetime. Xue Luhe wasn’t just a global superstar; she was a core power player in both the entertainment and business worlds.
However, the mood shifted when Mu Fei entered. Every eye in the room filled with jealousy. Mu Fei was truly “heaven’s chosen” possessing top-tier looks, luck, and temperament while commanding the attention of both Xue Luhe and the rising star CEO, Xi Shen.
Xi Shen, standing on the other side of the room, waved. “Feifei, over here!”
On the other side, Xue Luhe waved her hand, causing the crowd around her to disperse. Her gaze deepened as she looked at Mu Fei. “Come here.”
Mu Fei stood still for a moment, looking like a piece of delicate, ethereal porcelain. Xi Shen smiled to break the tension. “Since Chairman Xue is calling you, go ahead. Come see me later; I have something for you.”
Mu Fei walked over to Xue Luhe and bowed slightly. “Senior Xue, we meet again.”
Xue Luhe looked impatient. She didn’t speak but firmly draped an arm over Mu Fei’s shoulder. “Senior Xue, you seem to be in a bad mood? Is there something you can tell me?” Mu Fei’s smile was the perfectly practiced “ethereal smile” that had been tested a thousand times in the market.
Xue Luhe tutted. “The little animal at home is being too noisy.”
Mu Fei looked surprised. “You have a pet? Did… the person at home agree to it?” Mu Fei had always known about the engagement between Xue Luhe and Lin Mo. Xue Luhe was surprisingly honest with her about it.
“I don’t have a pet,” Xue Luhe said flatly. Her phone vibrated. She glanced at it, and her eyes suddenly became dangerously sharp. She tapped the screen a few times, then looked at Mu Fei. “I have an emergency. I have to go.”
Mu Fei nodded obediently, then hesitated. “Is it about the person at home? I saw her name on your phone… there’s something I don’t know if I should say. It’s about her.”
Xue Luhe paused, her impatience growing.
Mu Fei explained, “A while ago, some thugs tried to kidnap me at a hotel while I was filming. Xi Shen saved me. He interrogated them and found out they were hired by Lin Mo. She wanted to ruin my reputation so Xi Shen would have a bad impression of me. Xi Shen said Lin Mo confessed to him several times and was rejected; she might have misunderstood our relationship.”
The more Mu Fei spoke, the calmer Xue Luhe’s expression became. To those who knew her, this was the darkness before a hurricane.
Mu Fei continued, “I think your Lin Mo has some misunderstandings. Could you explain things to her? Also, please advise her—no matter how good Xi Shen is, he isn’t hers. She should cherish the person right in front of her, don’t you think?”
Xue Luhe stared at Mu Fei with unreadable eyes. An invisible wall seemed to form around them; guests who wanted to approach took one look at Xue Luhe’s face and retreated several meters.
Suddenly, Xue Luhe reached out and patted the top of Mu Fei’s head. “You talk too much. I don’t like it.”
Mu Fei’s face paled. She lowered her head, not daring to move even though the touch felt eerie. Everyone in the room watched. No one noticed Xi Shen walking to the window with his phone. “Mm… throw the phone away… to the suburbs… good,” Xi Shen whispered into his receiver.
The Interrogation
Xue Luhe’s expression remained eerily calm. she made a few quick calls to her executive secretary, Xu Lu. Finally, she looked at Mu Fei.
“Senior Xue, I thought you had an emergency?” Mu Fei asked softly.
“I don’t need to leave anymore,” Xue Luhe said, her voice like shards of ice.
Mu Fei forced a smile. “That’s good. This party is quite fun.”
Xue Luhe blinked slowly, her eyes locked onto Mu Fei. “I think you are more fun.”
Mu Fei’s heart skipped a beat.
“You came to me specifically to say those rehearsed lines,” Xue Luhe whispered. “Did you think I couldn’t tell you were lying?”
Mu Fei’s legs felt weak. She tried to step back, but Xue Luhe gripped her from behind. “Come with me to the lounge. Tell me everything you know.”
As the two walked toward the private lounge together, many hearts in the room shattered. “Why did Ms. Xue pick her?” “I need to take a photo of this for my social media!” “He-Fei (Xue Luhe x Mu Fei) is real! I’m shipping it!”
