The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 60
After returning, Ning Yunshu roasted the rabbit over the campfire.
Wei Youning and Xu Youyou kept an eye on the milk pot, waiting for Du Wenjun and the others to come back.
By the time the rabbit was ready, the group had returned, carrying another rabbit and a wild pheasant.
Ye Qinglan raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Not bad at all, quite the haul!”
Du Wenjun scratched his nose sheepishly, while Jiang Can admitted bluntly, “It was all Mr. McCann’s doing. None of us managed to catch anything.”
“Well, that makes me feel pretty good about myself,” Ye Qinglan said with a smirk.
Ning Yunshu chuckled. “Of course, Sister is the best.”
Ye Qinglan couldn’t suppress the upward tug of her lips.
Du Wenjun rolled his eyes. “Just go ahead and smile. Watching you hold it in is painful.”
Ye Qinglan immediately flashed a wide grin, revealing a row of pearly white teeth.
“Didn’t want to rub it in, you know?”
Du Wenjun sighed, too exasperated to respond.
Mr. McCann went to clean the new rabbit and pheasant while Ning Yunshu distributed the roasted rabbit to everyone, saving a portion for him so they could all snack first.
With the savory roasted rabbit and steaming hot milk, warmth soon spread through their bodies.
“Ah, this hits the spot,” Du Wenjun sighed contentedly.
Mr. McCann, upon tasting Ning Yunshu’s roasted rabbit, repeatedly gave her a thumbs-up in admiration of her skills.
Ning Yunshu simply smiled and continued preparing more food for the group.
After eating their fill, they took a midday break, retreating to their respective tents.
Inside the small tent, two sleeping bags lay side by side. The two of them leaned together, gazing up at the tent’s ceiling. Since the tent’s soundproofing was poor, they could still hear Wei Youning and Xu Youyou’s laughter from next door, so they kept their voices low, whispering to each other.
“When are we heading back tomorrow?” Ye Qinglan asked softly.
“Our flight’s at noon,” Ning Yunshu replied. “It’s a shame being here is so relaxing, no company matters to worry about. I don’t even want to leave.”
Ye Qinglan smiled faintly. “Yeah, but we’ve got work waiting for us.”
Ning Yunshu pouted slightly.
Ye Qinglan reached out from her sleeping bag and pinched Ning Yunshu’s cheek.
“Better work hard, Little CEO Ning.”
Ning Yunshu muttered, “I’ve got enough assets to coast through the rest of my life.”
“That won’t do. I’m counting on you to be my backbone,” Ye Qinglan teased.
“Hmm, if Sister says so, then I guess I’ll have to step up my game.” Ning Yunshu nuzzled her cheek against Ye Qinglan’s palm.
The smooth skin brushing against her hand sent a ticklish warmth through Ye Qinglan’s chest.
She wanted to kiss her.
No sooner had the thought crossed her mind than Ye Qinglan acted on it. Since there were no cameras inside the tent, she rolled over and pressed a quick kiss to Ning Yunshu’s cheek before retreating back into her sleeping bag.
Ning Yunshu froze in place, stunned. Then, lifting a hand to touch her cheek, she looked almost disappointed it had ended so soon.
“Sister, you!”
“Sleep. We’ve got skiing this afternoon,” Ye Qinglan said quickly, turning her back.
If only they weren’t in separate sleeping bags, Ning Yunshu would have loved to pull her into an embrace.
After a brief hour-long nap, they packed up the tent, extinguished the campfire, and made sure everything was in order before heading back down the mountain.
After descending the mountain, they took a ride to the nearby ski resort.
Originally, camping and skiing were supposed to be separate activities over two days, but due to the heavy snowfall blocking the roads yesterday, they had to squeeze everything into today.
Time was a bit tight.
Upon arriving at the ski resort, they rented equipment and hired a professional instructor. After receiving basic instructions, the group took the cable car up to the mountaintop.
Ye Qinglan felt somewhat nervous skiing wasn’t exactly her forte. However, they had all chosen beginner slopes, so it wasn’t particularly dangerous.
At the beginner’s area, after some lessons from the instructor, they cautiously started making their way down one by one, maintaining distance to avoid collisions.
Here, Jiang Can and her girlfriend turned out to be the most skilled, their smooth moves drawing admiration from everyone.
Jiang Can was even using a snowboard.
“So cool, Coach Jiang!” Wei Youning exclaimed from behind.
“I wonder when I’ll be as cool as Coach Jiang,” Xu Youyou chimed in.
“Stop daydreaming. We’re the only ones left let’s go,” Wei Youning said.
“You go first,” Xu Youyou quickly replied.
Wei Youning gave her a look. “Look at you, all scared.”
“What’s that supposed to mean!”
Bickering, the two slowly made their way down.
Meanwhile, Ye Qinglan and Ning Yunshu were on another slope, taking it slow. Ye Qinglan was unsteady, so Ning Yunshu stayed by her side, offering guidance.
Seeing how effortlessly Ning Yunshu handled herself, Ye Qinglan couldn’t help but pout.
“How come you’re suddenly good at everything?”
“Not at all. Maybe I just have better balance,” Ning Yunshu replied.
“Tch, fine. I get it my balance sucks,” Ye Qinglan muttered.
Ning Yunshu chuckled. “Not at all. You’re doing great, sister. Look over there if you don’t believe me.”
Ye Qinglan glanced to the side just in time to see Wei Youning wobbling down the slope at full speed.
“Help me!”
Before Ye Qinglan could react, another person whizzed past her.
“Whoa! Slow down, cousin!”
Ye Qinglan: “…”
A worried expression crossed her face as she turned to Ning Yunshu. “They’re going so fast are they going to be okay?”
“Don’t worry. Beginner slopes are relatively safe. There are sponge barriers at the bottom, and the incline is gentle,” Ning Yunshu reassured her.
“Besides, even though they’re going fast, their form isn’t bad.”
Hearing this, Ye Qinglan relaxed. “That’s good.”
Ning Yunshu smiled. “So don’t worry, sister. You’re doing really well, you can control your speed, which many beginners struggle with.”
“Alright, alright, stop flattering me,” Ye Qinglan laughed.
But perhaps inspired by Wei Youning and the others letting loose, she took a deep breath. “Okay, I’m going to push myself too.”
“I’ll stay right beside you,” Ning Yunshu immediately offered.
When they finally made it down, Ning Yunshu applauded enthusiastically. “Amazing, sister!”
Ye Qinglan couldn’t stop smiling. “Let’s go back up. I think I’m starting to get the hang of it.”
Ning Yunshu was more than happy to accompany her. “Sure!”
They took the cable car up again and went down two or three more times. With each run, Ye Qinglan grew more skilled and more excited.
“Qinglan’s so good! She’s got it after just a few tries,” Du Wenjun praised. “Unlike us, we’ve already fallen on our butts several times.”
Ye Qinglan tried to suppress her radiant smile as she said, “Sister Du is quite skilled too, but you still need to be careful.”
After all, Du Wenjun had old injuries, and everyone was worried she might get hurt again.
“Don’t worry, I’m being extra cautious. I haven’t slacked off with any of these protective gears,” Du Wenjun pointed at the equipment on her body.
“That’s good.” Seeing how careful Du Wenjun was herself, Ye Qinglan felt reassured.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be right beside her,” Xu Chaoyang said with a laugh.
“And you’re talking about me? Didn’t you fall once too?” Du Wenjun teased.
Xu Chaoyang sighed helplessly, “Only once, darling. You fell twice.”
“Xu Chaoyang, do you want to sleep on the couch tonight?” Du Wenjun pretended to glare at him.
“Sorry, my love, I was wrong. I didn’t say anything,” Xu Chaoyang quickly backtracked.
His practiced surrender made everyone laugh. Wei Youning subtly nudged Ye Qinglan with her elbow before whispering in her ear, “Does Little Ning always act like this with you at home?”
Ye Qinglan paused, then looked at Wei Youning with resignation.
“Sister Wei.”
Wei Youning gave her a knowing look. “Just as I thought.”
“I didn’t say anything yet,” Ye Qinglan protested, her cheeks warming involuntarily.
“Your eyes gave you away!”
Ye Qinglan: “But I’m wearing goggles.”
“Then it’s your emotional fluctuations.”
Ye Qinglan: “…”
Under her exasperated expression, Wei Youning patted her shoulder with a grin and walked away.
Only then did Ye Qinglan realize, she’d been tricked!
How annoying!
Noticing Ye Qinglan’s reaction, Ning Yunshu quickly asked, “What’s wrong, sister? What did Sister Wei say to you?”
“Nothing,” Ye Qinglan gritted her teeth.
“Really?” Ning Yunshu studied her face.
“Really nothing. Come on, let’s do one more run before we leave,” Ye Qinglan said, heading toward the ski slope.
Ning Yunshu was thoroughly confused, but since Ye Qinglan didn’t want to talk about it, she couldn’t press further. She hurried to catch up.
By evening, the thoroughly exhausted group returned to the villa by car.
Following their usual routine, Ning Yunshu and Du Wenjun went to prepare dinner while the others freshened up before gathering in the living room. Wei Youning, sore all over from the day’s activities, collapsed onto the sofa, too tired to move.
“It was fun, but somehow I feel more exhausted than during training camp,” Wei Youning sighed.
Xu Youyou rubbed her aching legs and back. “Well, we did take some spectacular falls. In a few days, the whole country will know just how badly we wiped out.”
“Oh no, we’ll be utterly humiliated!” Wei Youning looked horrified.
Ye Qinglan added fuel to the fire, “Don’t worry, that last comment of yours got recorded too.”
Wei Youning immediately covered her mouth, then narrowed her eyes at Ye Qinglan when she realized this was clearly retaliation.
Ye Qinglan maintained an innocent expression, pretending nothing had happened as she turned to chat with Xu Chaoyang.
After dinner and cleanup, the exhausted group could think of nothing but collapsing into bed. After exchanging goodnights, they retired to their rooms.
While Ning Yunshu went to shower, Ye Qinglan stood by the window observing the weather. Unnoticed by anyone, snowflakes had begun swirling outside.
Ye Qinglan’s brow unconsciously furrowed.
Stepping out of the bathroom, Ning Yunshu noticed and asked, “What’s wrong, sister?”
“The snow outside is falling heavily. If it doesn’t stop.” Ye Qinglan’s brows remained furrowed without a moment’s relief.
Understanding her concern, Ning Yunshu approached with a smile. “It’s alright. If we’re really delayed, we can leave later. I’ve checked there’s still food in the kitchen, so no need to worry.”
Hearing this, Ye Qinglan finally smiled.
“You’re right. I was just worrying unnecessarily.”
