The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 59
Unable to get the reaction she wanted, Xu Chaoyang still refused to give up.
But later, Ye Qinglan completely denied her any opportunity, leaving Xu Chaoyang to silently note this down in her heart.
Night deepened, and though it didn’t snow, the group secured the doors and windows, extinguished the stove, and ensured everything was safe before retiring to bed.
The next morning greeted them with brilliant sunshine and clear skies.
After breakfast, the host brought along a local hunter and informed them they could now head into the mountains.
Hearing this, the group couldn’t hide their excitement.
Equipped with the survival backpacks provided by the production team and stocked with food and water, they followed the local guide into the mountains.
The guide enthusiastically shared updates about the area, with the host kindly translating though Ning Yunshu, for one, didn’t need any help, effortlessly conversing with him in fluent dialogue.
Of course, the others didn’t rely much on translation either.
For safety, they didn’t venture too deep. Under the guide’s instructions, they set up tents and lit a campfire.
Amid the coniferous forest, occasional bird calls could be heard, making Wei Youning a little uneasy.
“Are we going to run into any dangerous wild animals?”
The hunter seemed to sense her worry and gestured reassuringly, explaining that this area was a safe zone, free from bears, wolves, or other predators.
Wei Youning thanked him profusely, clarifying that she was just being cautious.
The hunter smiled warmly, clearly understanding her concern, before heading off to mark the surrounding area.
Wei Youning rubbed her nose sheepishly. “Oh no, I hope I didn’t leave a bad impression.”
“Don’t worry, Uncle Macken didn’t seem bothered at all,” Ning Yunshu reassured her with a laugh.
“That’s a relief,” Wei Youning sighed.
After setting up a makeshift camping platform together, Ye Qinglan rubbed her gloved hands even with protection, the cold was biting.
Ning Yunshu handed her a thermos filled with warm water, smiling. “Here, hold this to warm up.”
Ye Qinglan accepted it without hesitation, cradling it in her hands as she glanced at the tent. “Honestly, this is my first time camping in the wild.”
“Scared?” Ning Yunshu sat beside her.
“Pretending otherwise would be a lie,” Ye Qinglan admitted with a chuckle.
“Don’t worry, I’m here,” Ning Yunshu reassured her.
Ye Qinglan smiled, her lips curving. “Alright, but if anything happens, I won’t let you face it alone.”
She then glanced at the campfire and added, “We’re running low on firewood. Want to gather some with me?”
“Sure.”
After informing the others, the two set off to collect firewood nearby.
For safety, they didn’t stray far, only gathering scattered dry branches before returning to camp. Uncle Macken had already returned and was sharing hunting tips with the others.
Xu Youyou listened with sparkling eyes before eagerly asking, “Can we learn how to hunt?”
“Of course,” Macken replied in English. “If you’d like, I can take you. I won’t bring you to dangerous areas, and the only weapons available are simple bows and arrows. You can try hunting some small animals.”
Hearing this, Xu Youyou looked at the host, who seemed hesitant but nodded in agreement after consulting with the production team.
“Thank you for your trouble, Mr. Macken. I hope we can just stay nearby,” the host said.
“Of course, rest assured, I won’t put the ladies in any danger,” Macken replied.
With Macken’s confirmation, the host nodded at Xu Youyou and said, “Make sure to stay safe.”
“I will,” Xu Youyou nodded, then glanced at Wei Youning, who reluctantly agreed to join them.
Hearing they could learn hunting, Ye Qinglan was also intrigued. She tugged at Ning Yunshu’s arm and asked, “Shall we go take a look too?”
“You want to learn too?” Ning Yunshu asked.
“What’s wrong? Can’t I?” Ye Qinglan raised an eyebrow at her.
Ning Yunshu quickly replied, “Of course you can.”
“That’s more like it,” Ye Qinglan let her off, handing the firewood to Du Wenjun before pulling Ning Yunshu along to follow Xu Youyou and Wei Youning.
“Hey! These two, running off the moment they’re back. I wanted to learn too,” Du Wenjun couldn’t help but complain.
Xu Chaoyang chuckled. “Maybe we can take turns later. We can’t all leave and leave the campsite to Teacher Jiang and the others, right?”
Realizing this, Du Wenjun gave Jiang Can an apologetic look. “You’re right. Let’s take shifts then.”
Jiang Can also smiled. “I’m quite curious too. Let’s try it when they come back?”
“Sure,” Du Wenjun quickly agreed.
Meanwhile, the group followed Uncle Macken into a small forest. He prepared two handmade wooden bows and arrows for them and personally taught them how to use them.
Unlike compound bows, these wooden bows required different techniques. After explaining the stance, posture, and key points, Macken had them try shooting at a rabbit in the nearby grass.
Xu Youyou, full of enthusiasm, drew the bow and fired without hesitation.
Unsurprisingly, she missed completely, not even startling the rabbit.
Xu Youyou’s lips twitched, while Wei Youning struggled to suppress her laughter.
Next, Ye Qinglan took her turn. After setting her stance, Ning Yunshu adjusted her posture until she gave the signal to release. The arrow flew out, piercing the rabbit’s thigh with precision.
The injured rabbit hopped a couple of times before collapsing, struggling weakly on the ground.
Ye Qinglan beamed and looked at Ning Yunshu. “I did it!”
“You’re amazing, sis!” Ning Yunshu immediately praised her.
Uncle Macken also gave her a thumbs-up, complimenting her skill, then retrieved the rabbit and handed the barely alive creature to Ye Qinglan.
Xu Youyou tried a few more times, with her closest shot grazing the rabbit’s tail. But startled, the rabbit quickly fled, leaving her somewhat disheartened.
After some encouragement, Xu Youyou soon regained her spirits, and the group headed back to camp.
Upon their return, Du Wenjun had already heated some milk and handed each of them a cup.
“Good work. Have some warm milk to heat up.”
“Thank you, Sister Du.” Ning Yunshu took the two cups and handed one to Ye Qinglan, who had just put down the rabbit.
Du Wenyun noticed and remarked, “Oh, seems like you’ve had quite the haul.”
Ye Qinglan lifted her chin proudly. “Yeah, what do you think? Pretty impressive, huh?”
“You took it down?” Du Wenyun looked genuinely surprised.
“At your service, it was indeed me,” Ye Qinglan replied with a laugh.
“Way to go, Qinglan,” Xu Chaoyang couldn’t help but praise.
At this, Ye Qinglan glanced sheepishly at Ning Yunshu. “Actually, it was Xiaoshu who helped me. I might not have hit the mark otherwise.”
“Nonsense, Teacher Ye nailed it on her first try. I tried several times and still couldn’t manage,” Xu Youyou chimed in from the side.
Ye Qinglan chuckled. “But you were close, weren’t you?”
Xu Youyou stuck out her tongue playfully.
“Well then,” Du Wenyun suddenly stood up, catching Ye Qinglan off guard.
“What’s up, Teacher Du?” Ye Qinglan asked curiously.
“Heh, you’ve all had your fun. Now it’s our turn,” Du Wenyun said as Xu Chaoyang, Jiang Can, and the others rose to their feet.
Ye Qinglan rubbed her nose awkwardly. “Ahem, go ahead then. We’ll take care of the rabbit and roast it later.”
“Of course! One rabbit won’t be enough for all of us. Wait till we show off our skills and bring back a couple more,” Du Wenyun declared, rolling up her sleeves dramatically.
Ye Qinglan couldn’t hold back a laugh. “Alright, we’ll be waiting for your triumphant return!”
“Watch us come back loaded!”
After exchanging a few words with Mr. McCann, who readily agreed, Du Wenyun led the group away.
Ye Qinglan looked at the rabbit in her hands, then at Ning Yunshu beside her.
“What’s wrong?” Ning Yunshu asked, puzzled.
Ye Qinglan solemnly handed the rabbit to her. “I don’t know how to handle this. It’s up to you now.”
Ning Yunshu took it, blinked, and then burst into laughter.
Ye Qinglan glared. “What’s so funny? Stop laughing!”
Ning Yunshu quickly composed herself. “Then will you come with me to clean it?”
Ye Qinglan huffed, about to refuse, but Ning Yunshu’s unwavering gaze held a hint of pleading.
In the end, she simply pinched Ning Yunshu’s cheek. “Fine, since it’s not safe to go alone.”
Ning Yunshu beamed with satisfaction, leaving Ye Qinglan both amused and exasperated.
Following Ning Yunshu to a nearby stream, they found that despite the heavy snow, a small flow of water remained beneath a hole they dug.
As Ning Yunshu skillfully prepared the rabbit, Ye Qinglan watched intently, chin resting on her hand.
Back when they were kids, Ning Yunshu had been too timid to even watch a chicken being slaughtered. Now, her movements were swift and precise the rabbit was cleaned in no time, and even the bloodstains were tidied away.
When Ning Yunshu turned around, she found Ye Qinglan staring at her, lost in thought.
She waved a hand in front of Ye Qinglan’s face. “Sister, what are you thinking about?”
Ye Qinglan snapped out of it and smiled at the neatly prepared rabbit meat. “I was just thinking about how the little girl who used to be scared of killing chickens has grown so capable now she can handle ingredients all by herself.”
Ning Yunshu looked somewhat embarrassed. “Well, people have to grow up eventually.”
Ye Qinglan thought of the two wounds on her body. During their intimate moments, she would gently caress those scars, her heart aching at how much Ning Yunshu had endured alone. Yet every time, Ning Yunshu would kiss her and say they didn’t hurt at all anymore, not wanting her to dwell on it.
With lowered eyes, Ye Qinglan chuckled softly.
“You’re right. Even crybabies have to grow up someday.”
