Ning Yunshu could swear that if Ke Ying had heard Ye Qinglan’s earlier remark, the old woman would’ve been fuming with rage.

Yet the oblivious woman kept muttering complaints about Ke Ying’s nagging.

Ning Yunshu tried to suppress it but ultimately failed—a sudden giggle escaped her lips.

Ye Qinglan immediately whipped her head around, brows furrowed. “What’s so funny? Was I wrong?”

With survival instincts kicking in, Ning Yunshu instantly raised her hands in surrender. “No, no! You’re absolutely right!”

Only after a light hum of satisfaction did Ye Qinglan drop the matter.

Up front, Qin Yun drove with perfect posture, not even glancing at the rearview mirror.

After all, she’d just witnessed her boss’s domestic hierarchy firsthand.

It wasn’t until they’d been driven home that Qin Yun finally departed.

The moment they stepped inside and kicked off their shoes, Ye Qinglan collapsed onto the sofa.

“Nothing beats being home no formalities, no worrying about offending people with the wrong words,” she sighed contentedly.

Ning Yunshu chuckled. “I need to handle some work. Want to rest a bit longer, sis?”

Without turning, Ye Qinglan waved dismissively. “Go do your thing. I’ll scroll through my phone.”

With that, she sprawled across the couch and began browsing.

Left with no choice, Ning Yunshu retreated to her room to work.

The matters at hand proved troublesome, and before she knew it, noon had arrived. A soft knock came at her door, when she opened it, Ye Qinglan saw she was still in a video conference, silently gestured toward her phone, then quietly closed the door behind her.

Checking her device, Ning Yunshu found a message:

[Ye Qinglan]: Ordering lunch delivery. Any preferences?

Overwhelmed with work, Ning Yunshu simply replied:

[Ning Yunshu]: Whatever you choose is fine.

[Ye Qinglan]: Got it.

The response made Ning Yunshu’s lips curve upward.

“Gracia, are you listening?” came the voice through her headphones.

“Yes, I am,” she responded, schooling her expression as she set the phone aside.

“We’ve secured the evidence. What’s our next move?” asked the efficient young woman onscreen.

“Hand it over to the police. This isn’t Australia,” Ning Yunshu replied coolly.

“Also, arrange a meeting with the other party.” Her fingers tapped lightly against the desk, her tone devoid of inflection.

“Let’s hope they’ll grant us some courtesy.”

“Understood.”

Ye Qinglan’s food order arrived promptly. Just as she was about to call Ning Yunshu, the younger woman emerged on her own.

“Finished working?” Ye Qinglan asked while setting out the dishes.

“Mhm.” Ning Yunshu wrapped her arms around Ye Qinglan’s waist from behind, nuzzling against her back. “I’m exhausted.”

Ye Qinglan patted her arm indulgently. “Alright, alright. Go wash up and eat something.”

Ning Yunshu pouted playfully. “Only if you kiss me better first.”

Ye Qinglan laughed in disbelief.

“Since when did you become so bold, Ning Yunshu?”

“But I need my sister’s kisses to feel better,” Ning Yunshu wheedled.

Ye Qinglan’s face was filled with helplessness, but she ultimately gave Ning Yunshu a quick, light peck on the lips before saying, “Hurry up and go. I’m starving.”

“Okay~” The satisfied Ning Yunshu was exceptionally happy, humming a tune as she headed to the bathroom.

Ye Qinglan shook her head in amusement, then opened the takeout containers, waiting for Ning Yunshu to return so they could eat together.

After the meal, Ye Qinglan curled up on the couch playing video games while Ning Yunshu snuggled beside her to pass the time. They stayed like that until the afternoon when they received a phone call.

“Hello, this is the Qiushui Town Police Department. Regarding the reported case of home burglary, we have apprehended the suspect and recovered all stolen items, including bank cards and credit cards. When would you be available to come and verify the recovered items?”

Hearing this, Ye Qinglan was momentarily stunned, she hadn’t expected the suspect to be caught so quickly.

Ning Yunshu, however, calmly replied, “We won’t be able to come in person for now, but we’ll send someone to handle the retrieval. Thank you for your hard work.”

“You’re too kind. It’s our duty.”

After hanging up, Ye Qinglan clicked her tongue in surprise. “I didn’t expect the police to catch them so fast. I thought it’d take at least another day or two.”

“Not at all. You should trust the police’s efficiency. Besides, the amount involved in this case is significant, and the impact is widespread they couldn’t afford to ignore it,” Ning Yunshu said with a smile.

Ye Qinglan nodded in agreement. “Then I’ll let Sister Ke know.”

But Ning Yunshu interjected, “No need to trouble Sister Ke. I’ll have Sister Qin Yun handle it and bring everything back.”

Ye Qinglan thought for a moment. “I’ll still inform her. Maybe Sister Qin Yun can also ask who was behind it while she’s there?”

“Don’t worry, I won’t forget,” Ning Yunshu replied with a smile.

After finalizing their plans, they each made a call. When Ke Ying received the news and heard Ye Qinglan’s request, she had no objections. Given the relationship between Ye Qinglan and Ning Yunshu, she knew Ning Yunshu would naturally take care of everything for Ye Qinglan.

She was happy to stay out of it.

Well, at most, she could treat Qin Yun to a meal later.

After all, they’d inevitably cross paths again.

As for Qin Yun, she naturally accepted Ning Yunshu’s instructions without question and immediately drove to Qiushui Town.

Feeling a bit guilty, Ye Qinglan looked at Ning Yunshu and said, “Sister Qin Yun is working too hard now she has to handle things for both of us.”

Ye Qinglan rubbed the tip of her nose. “Should I contribute too?”

Ning Yunshu found this amusing. “Why would you? She’s my assistant, if anyone’s paying, it should be me. Besides, what’s mine is yours, isn’t it?”

“Wouldn’t that mean I’m taking advantage of you for free?” Ye Qinglan grinned at her.

Ning Yunshu smiled tenderly. “If it’s you, it’s not taking advantage. I’m more than willing.”

Ye Qinglan reached out and pinched Ning Yunshu’s cheek.

“Such smooth talk.”

“How is it smooth talk? At the very least, it’s sweet nothings,” Ning Yunshu retorted.

“Oh?” Ye Qinglan arched an eyebrow. “How sweet?”

Ning Yunshu ran her tongue over her lips. “Why don’t you taste for yourself, jiejie?”

Faced with Ning Yunshu’s deliberate teasing, Ye Qinglan’s breath hitched. Realizing the danger, she quickly averted her gaze. “No flirting allowed.”

Ning Yunshu felt a pang of regret. “How can you call it being a rogue?”

“I absolutely can!” Ye Qinglan glared at her.

“Ah, fine then. Then let’s say I was trying to seduce you instead,” Ning Yunshu stated bluntly.

“That way, it’s not being a rogue anymore.”

Ye Qinglan was both exasperated and amused by her shamelessness.

“Dream on. Keep carrying me in the game.”

Ning Yunshu looked at her eagerly. “Will there be a reward if I do well?”

Ye Qinglan, utterly helpless against her persistence, pinched Ning Yunshu’s chin and leaned in to press a kiss to her lips.

“Happy now?”

Ning Yunshu seemed to savor it for a moment before pulling Ye Qinglan closer, capturing her in a lingering kiss.

Only when both were breathless did she finally release her.

“Mmm, that’s more like it.”

“Ning Yunshu!” Ye Qinglan glared at her, though her misty eyes held no real threat.

Ning Yunshu licked her lips, unsatisfied. “I’m here. You taste so sweet, jiejie.”

Ye Qinglan hurled a pillow at her in frustration.

“Ning Yunshu, do you not want to sleep in the bedroom tonight?”

“I do, I do!” Seeing she was about to push her too far, Ning Yunshu quickly bowed her head in apology.

“Don’t be mad, jiejie.”

Ye Qinglan snorted and turned away.

“Jiejie.!” Ning Yunshu sidled up to her, trying to coax her back.

When Ye Qinglan ignored her, Ning Yunshu nuzzled her head against her shoulder.

“Don’t be angry, pretty jiejie.”

Ye Qinglan pushed at her fluffy head. “You’re so hot, stop crowding me.”

“No.” Ning Yunshu grabbed the air conditioner remote and turned the temperature down. “There, better now.”

Ye Qinglan sighed. “You’re so shameless.”

“Mmm, I just wanted to kiss you. No ulterior motives here,” Ning Yunshu denied.

“You’re the one with the most ulterior motives,” Ye Qinglan retorted, pinching Ning Yunshu’s earlobe.

Ning Yunshu rubbed her cheek against Ye Qinglan’s hand.

“That’s not true. Wanting to be close to you isn’t a bad thing, is it?”

Ye Qinglan gave up arguing and patted her head. “Alright, get up. Carry me in the game.”

“Okay!” Ning Yunshu agreed instantly.

The two spent the afternoon gaming side by side until evening, when Qin Yun knocked on their door.

Ning Yunshu went to answer it and let her in. Qin Yun greeted Ye Qinglan with a smile. “Miss Ye.”

“Thank you for your trouble, Sister Qin Yun,” Ye Qinglan said sheepishly.

Qin Yun chuckled. “It’s no trouble. I’ve brought back all your cards would you like to check them first?”

“Sure.” Ye Qinglan confirmed the count with Ning Yunshu.

“Everything’s here. Thanks, Sister Qin Yun.”

Qin Yun nodded. “As long as nothing’s missing. I’ll take my leave now, I won’t disturb you further.”

“Wait!” Ye Qinglan called out. “It’s so late, why not stay for dinner?”

Qin Yun smiled. “No need. I have plans tonight, Miss Ye. No need to worry.”

“Oh? Sister Qin Yun has plans?” Ning Yunshu looked at her in surprise.

“I thought you always went straight home. You’re actually accepting invitations now?” Ning Yunshu teased.

Qin Yun gave a mysterious smile: “The circumstances are different this time this meeting is absolutely non-negotiable.”

“Who is it? Why all the secrecy?” Ning Yunshu grew quite curious and pressed for details.

Qin Yun then glanced at Ye Qinglan.

“It’s Miss Ye’s professional agent, Ms. Ke Ying.”

Ye Qinglan: “???”
