The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 48
Under Ye Qinglan’s astonished gaze, Qin Yun bid them farewell with a smile before leaving.
Ning Yunshu found Ye Qinglan’s expression rather amusing. “Why do you look so shocked?”
Ye Qinglan shook her head. “No, you don’t understand. In the past, Sister Ke would always assign such matters to Xiao Wenjin.”
“After all, Sister Qin is your assistant, and given your status, it would be most appropriate for Xiao Wenjin to handle it. But this time, she actually invited someone to dinner personally? It’s clear their private relationship isn’t ordinary,” Ye Qinglan analyzed logically.
Ning Yunshu thought for a moment before saying, “Perhaps they became acquainted because they’ve worked together before?”
Ye Qinglan pondered briefly. “That’s possible too. Anyway, let’s not worry about them for now. I’m hungry, go cook.”
Ning Yunshu chuckled helplessly. “Alright, alright, I’ll get to it right away. What would you like to eat, sis?”
Ye Qinglan frowned slightly. “Never mind, just make whatever. I don’t know what I want.”
Ning Yunshu smiled. “Fine, then I’ll improvise.”
Ye Qinglan nodded. “Mm, go ahead.”
After Ning Yunshu prepared dinner, the two ate their fill, watched a movie to relax, and went to bed early.
The next morning, Ning Yunshu left for work while Ye Qinglan headed to the talent agency, and they parted ways at the door.
Upon arriving at the company, Ye Qinglan went straight to Ke Ying’s office.
Noticing her arrival, Ke Ying gestured for her to take a seat on the sofa.
“So? Ke Ying, have they caught the culprit?” Ye Qinglan asked as soon as she sat down.
Ke Ying nodded. “They’ve been apprehended two drifters who turned out to be distant nephews of Bai Qian’s mother.”
Ye Qinglan’s face instantly filled with surprise. “So it really was her doing?”
But Ke Ying shook her head. “No. Bai Qian’s mother claims she had no idea. The two men said they resented Bai Qian for prospering without helping her brothers and cousins, so they came to steal everything valuable while no one was home. They didn’t expect Bai Qian’s mother to still be there, so they climbed over the wall to the upper floor.”
Hearing this, Ye Qinglan frowned deeply, clearly unconvinced by the explanation.
“Is this the account the police provided?” she couldn’t help but ask.
“Yes, Assistant Qin specifically told me yesterday,” Ke Ying confirmed.
Yet Ye Qinglan felt something was off. She looked at Ke Ying and asked, “Sister Ke, don’t you think there’s something strange about this?”
Ke Ying naturally understood her implication. “I know what you mean. The evidence chain is incomplete, and someone might be trying to help Bai Qian behind the scenes. We don’t know who yet, so let’s not rush. We’ll wait a little longer.”
Ye Qinglan sighed heavily. “Fine, I’ll wait then.”
“The production team should have results today. I’ll update you on the situation when I know more,” Ke Ying said.
“Alright, I’ll take my leave first,” Ye Qinglan replied, picking up her bag to go.
“Wait a moment,” Ke Ying quickly called out to stop her.
“What is it?” Ye Qinglan looked at her in confusion.
Ke Ying tapped on the desk: “You should look at some new projects. There are several endorsement deals recently, all of decent quality. Go check them out, we can’t let your popularity cool down.”
Ye Qinglan immediately made a face: “Alright, I get it.”
Seeing her reaction, Ke Ying sighed in exasperation: “My dear Best Actress Ye, if you don’t maintain your popularity, who’s going to offer you roles once you’re forgotten?”
“I know, I know, I’ll do it. Don’t worry,” Ye Qinglan raised her hands in surrender.
“I’ve already sent the schedule to Zhou Tiantian. All the shoots are within S City, so you won’t need to travel back and forth,” Ke Ying glanced at Ye Qinglan’s itinerary.
“Got it.”
Meanwhile, as soon as Ning Yunshu arrived at the company, she noticed another woman standing at her office door beside Qin Yun.
The woman was the one who had called Ning Yunshu yesterday. Spotting Ning Yunshu, she smiled and greeted, “Gracia, you’re here.”
“Yes, thank you for your hard work these past few days, Miss Yan,” Ning Yunshu nodded slightly before opening the office door and ushering everyone inside.
Once Qin Yun closed the door securely, Yan Yao smiled: “I’ve found out everything you asked me to investigate.”
“Oh?” Ning Yunshu looked at her: “Who is it?”
Yan Yao produced a stack of documents: “Wei An, chairman of Hanguang Media Group.”
Xiao Wenjin raised an eyebrow: “Wei An must be over fifty, right? Does he still have the energy for this?”
Yan Yao shrugged: “You know how deep the waters run in the entertainment industry. For someone like Bai Qian born into a simple family with old-fashioned parents and environment, who finally gets a chance to climb up, she’ll naturally grab any resource available.”
“Whether Wei An is old or not doesn’t matter. Bai Qian just wants to climb up,” Yan Yao stated bluntly. “Without backing, it’s hard to survive here.”
Ning Yunshu didn’t comment on this. She simply flipped through the documents and asked, “Have you arranged a meeting with Mr. Wei for me?”
“It’s scheduled,” Qin Yun quickly replied.
Ning Yunshu nodded slightly: “Good, then I’ll go meet him personally and hear what he has to say.”
“Understood.”
Qin Yun had arranged the meeting with Wei An for noon. Ning Yunshu sent Ye Qinglan a message, informing her that she might not be able to come home for lunch and telling her to eat properly, no skipping meals.
Only after Ye Qinglan agreed did Ning Yunshu let it go, turning to get into the car and head to the club where they were meeting.
When Ning Yunshu arrived, Wei An was already waiting. Seeing her enter, he quickly stood up to greet her.
“President Ning, long time no see! To what do I owe the pleasure of this sudden meeting?”
Looking at the portly, balding man in his forties or fifties before her, Ning Yunshu smiled calmly: “I’ve invited you today because there’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”
“Oh? What matter could be important enough for President Ning to visit personally?” Wei An’s eyes darted shrewdly.
Ning Yunshu sat down on the sofa across from him, crossing her legs with an air of composed nonchalance.
“Mr. Wei is a smart man. You must know why I’m here today. I don’t particularly appreciate people entering my private space without permission, let alone rummaging through or stealing from it. Had I been carrying important documents in my bag that day, the nature of this incident would have been far more serious. Don’t you agree?” Ning Yunshu spoke at a measured pace, her half-lidded eyes fixed on Wei An with an amused glint, observing his every reaction.
Wei An gave an awkward chuckle. “You’re absolutely right. However, the events of that day did prove that my artist wasn’t at fault, correct?”
“At first glance, that does seem to be the case.” Ning Yunshu maintained her smile. “Though my team has uncovered some. rather unusual findings.”
Wei An’s expression shifted as Yan Yao handed him a thick envelope. Upon opening it, he found intimate photos of himself with Bai Qian.
“Your wife must still be unaware, I presume?” Ning Yunshu’s tone remained even, laced with subtle amusement. “You should keep these items more securely in the future, Mr. Wei. It would be quite troublesome if they fell into your wife’s hands, wouldn’t it?”
Cold sweat broke out on Wei An’s forehead. As a live-in son-in-law, his entire future would be ruined if these photos reached his wife.
“Thank you for your discretion, President Ning. I understand what needs to be done,” Wei An said through gritted teeth.
Ning Yunshu smiled pleasantly. “Excellent. I look forward to our continued cooperation.”
“Of course, of course. You can count on me,” Wei An replied hastily.
“I have every confidence in you, Mr. Wei.” Glancing at her watch, she added, “It’s getting late. Would you care to join me for dinner?”
“No, no,” Wei An waved his hands hurriedly. “I have some matters to attend to. I’m afraid I must decline your kind invitation today.”
“What a pity.” Ning Yunshu sighed before turning to Qin Yun. “In that case, Sister Qin Yun, please see Mr. Wei out.”
“Certainly.” Qin Yun responded promptly, gesturing to Wei An. “This way, Mr. Wei.”
“Yes, yes.”
Watching Wei An scurry away in panic, Yan Yao couldn’t suppress a laugh. “A man who built his fortune through marriage, yet dares to keep a mistress on the side and without the ability to cover his tracks. Are you really letting him off that easily, President Ning?”
Ning Yunshu took a sip of tea. “I merely said I wouldn’t inform his wife. If she happens to discover something on her own. well, that’s hardly my concern.”
Yan Yao immediately grasped her meaning and grinned. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure everything is handled properly.”
“I trust you will.” As she spoke, Ning Yunshu was already checking her phone for messages from Ye Qinglan.
[Ye Qinglan]: I ordered takeout at the office. Will be busy with work for the next few days.
Ning Yunshu’s fingers flew across the screen.
[Ning Yunshu]: You’re working too hard, jiejie. Should I pick you up after work?
[Ye Qinglan]: No need. Better not com, I’m afraid Manager Ke might go bald from stress at the sight of you.
[Ning Yunshu]: I thought Manager Ke had warmed up to me at least a little?
[Ye Qinglan]: She has. But seeing you still gives her a headache.
Ning Yunshu couldn’t help but chuckle.
Yan Yao blinked at her. “Did the boss lady summon you home for dinner?” She was, of course, referring to Ye Qinglan.
“Not quite,” Ning Yunshu replied.
“Her agent seems a bit afraid to see me now,” Ning Yunshu said with a helpless expression.
“If I were her agent, I’d be scared too,” Yan Yao teased.
“After all, agents always hope their artists have fewer issues especially ones that make them work overtime because of romantic entanglements,” Yan Yao added with a wink.
Ning Yunshu gave her a deadpan look. “Why are you still here? Shouldn’t you be working?”
Yan Yao blinked innocently. “Boss, I haven’t eaten yet. You can’t expect me to work on an empty stomach, right?”
Ning Yunshu: “…”
With an exasperated sigh, Ning Yunshu grabbed her handbag and stood up.
“Fine, let’s go eat first.”
