The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 14
Xu Suwen’s bluntness didn’t even consider whether Ning Yunshu was nearby.
Hearing Xu Su’s words, Ning Yunshu immediately tensed up, though she showed no outward reaction, merely listening attentively to Instructor Li’s response.
Instructor Li smiled and said, “She’s doing quite well. Despite having the heaviest training load, she hasn’t complained once from start to finish and is the most diligent of them all.”
Upon hearing Instructor Li’s answer and glancing at Xu Su beside her, noticing the satisfaction on her face, Ning Yunshu finally let out a sigh of relief.
Xu Su shot a look at Ning Yunshu before replying, “That’s good.”
Truth be told, Xu Su wasn’t keen on casting a newcomer like Ye Qinglan in a leading role. Although Ye Qinglan had won an award, she was still too young and inexperienced. Many young actors, after receiving accolades, became arrogant, believing their acting methods were infallible and refusing to heed the director’s advice.
As a result, Xu Su generally avoided casting newcomers in lead roles, they needed time to mature first.
The only reason she had sent the script to Ye Qinglan was out of respect for Ning Yunshu’s mother, Yun Xi.
But so far, Ye Qinglan had proven to be humble, eager to learn, and level-headed. Xu Su had brought Ning Yunshu along precisely to observe Ye Qinglan’s performance, if she wasn’t suitable for the lead, she would have suggested downgrading her to a supporting role.
Fortunately, Ye Qinglan had risen to the occasion. Otherwise, Xu Su would have had a serious talk with Ning Yunshu.
“Satisfied?” Xu Su turned to see Ning Yunshu barely suppressing a smile and let out an exasperated huff.
Ning Yunshu chuckled and reassured her, “It’s all thanks to your keen eye for talent, Director Xu.”
Xu Su rolled her eyes but said nothing more.
Meanwhile, the others had noticed Director Xu’s arrival, and some even recognized Ning Yunshu’s identity, so no one dared to slack off. They hurried to freshen up and change into clean camouflage uniforms.
As Ye Qinglan tied up her long hair, Wei Youning remarked, “Director Xu is probably here to assess the situation. Isn’t that the young director of J.S. who just returned from abroad standing next to her?”
Ye Qinglan paused before replying, “That’s President Ning.”
Since her film was backed by J.S. and Ning Yunshu’s attendance at her celebration banquet was already an open secret in the industry, hiding it would only invite unnecessary speculation. It was better to acknowledge it openly.
“She’s so young,” Wei Youning mused without pressing further. “To be a billionaire boss at such a young age…”
Ye Qinglan pressed her lips together and remained silent. After checking her reflection to ensure she looked presentable, she turned to Wei Youning. “I’m ready, Sister Wei. Shall we go?”
As they grew closer, Ye Qinglan had started addressing Wei Youning as “Sister Wei” instead of “Teacher Wei.”
Wei Youning had also finished getting ready and smiled. “Let’s go.”
As they stepped out, they headed toward the assembly point, soon joined by others who caught up with them along the way.
There, they spotted Xu Su and Ning Yunshu chatting with Instructor Li.
Noticing their return, Ning Yunshu was the first to look over. Her gaze swept across the group, lingering on Ye Qinglan for just a second before she quickly averted her eyes and whispered something to Xu Su.
Xu Su glanced up, surveying everyone before nodding at Instructor Li.
In response, Instructor Li blew his whistle and issued the command.
Ye Qingran stood straight as Ning Yunshu looked at them openly, making no attempt to conceal herself.
Xu Su cleared her throat and said, “Hello everyone, I think we’re all familiar with each other, so I won’t introduce myself. Let me just introduce the person beside me.”
“Ning Yunshu, Chairwoman of J.S and the biggest investor in our film,” Xu Su announced.
Ning Yunshu smiled faintly, but there was an undeniable air of authority in her expression.
“Hello everyone, I’m Ning Yunshu. I’m just here today to accompany Director Xu on an inspection. Please don’t mind my presence.”
Ye Qingran observed this version of Ning Yunshu so different from the pitiful figure she played at home. Only now could Ye Qingran believe that Ning Yunshu was truly an Alpha.
“Welcome, Director Xu and Chairwoman Ning,” Instructor Li joked.
“Welcome, welcome,” the others echoed.
Director Xu waved her hand with a smile. “Alright, alright, continue with your training. Chairwoman Ning and I will just look around.”
After speaking, she glanced at Instructor Li, who nodded in acknowledgment before turning to the group.
“Next, we’ll go over the components of firearms and how to shoot,” Instructor Li said.
Hearing this, Ye Qingran stopped caring whether Ning Yunshu was present or not and focused intently on learning.
As the instructor had the assistants distribute model guns and explained everything in meticulous detail, Xu Su pulled Ning Yunshu aside while watching the five of them train seriously.
“Take it easy. Xiao Ye is in a crucial phase of her career, no scandals, got it?” Xu Su warned.
Ning Yunshu sighed. “Don’t worry, I know. I’ve taken care of everything.”
Xu Su hesitated before finally saying, “You’ve really gone to great lengths for her.”
Ning Yunshu lowered her gaze, her smile tender yet bittersweet.
“I owe her too much.”
“Naturally, I want to compensate her with the best I can give.”
Xu Su looked at her and sighed. “Ah, you youngsters… Fine, do as you see fit.”
Ning Yunshu only smiled in response.
Though they claimed to be there to observe the training progress, both Xu Su and Ning Yunshu were extremely busy. They stayed for only an hour, not even joining the group for lunch before leaving.
When Ye Qingran heard they had gone, she fell silent for a moment before following the others to the cafeteria.
The sense of loss she had nearly forgotten over the past seven years suddenly surged back into her heart.
But she hid it well, no one noticed her subdued mood.
After finishing the afternoon session as usual, she returned to her dorm and opened her phone. The moment she saw the long string of messages from Ning Yunshu, the lingering melancholy in her heart instantly dissipated.
[Ning Yunshu]: Wuwu, Sister Qin suddenly called I had to attend a meeting and leave early.
[Ning Yunshu]: I really wanted to chat with you, but there was no chance. Still, just seeing you made me so happy.
[Ning Yunshu]: By the way, you looked so dashing in that camouflage uniform. And your serious expression was really beautiful.
The last message seemed to reassure Ye Qingran not to mind their less-than-glamorous meeting earlier.
What could Ye Qingran say? The smile on her lips never faded.
“Xiao Ye, what are you looking at? You seem so happy,” Wei Youning couldn’t help but ask, noticing her expression.
Realizing she had lost her composure, Ye Qinglan didn’t panic. Instead, she quickly opened a video app and found a funny clip. “Just watching videos,” she said.
Thank goodness she hadn’t turned on the sound yet.
“Oh? What kind of video?” Wei Youning asked curiously.
“I’ll send it to you.” Ning Yunshu forwarded the video in her hand to Wei Youning.
When Wei Youning opened it, she saw a compilation of hilarious antics featuring a snow-white puppy. She couldn’t help but laugh along.
“What an adorable little dog.”
Hearing Wei Youning’s admiration, Ye Qinglan’s gaze returned to her chat history with Ning Yunshu, and she chuckled softly.
“Truly adorable.”
She turned and sent Ning Yunshu a message.
[Ye Qinglan]: Be good. Just two more weeks.
Meanwhile, at the company, Ning Yunshu was in a late-night meeting, listening to department heads drone on with their reports. Rubbing her temples, she felt her phone vibrate. Knowing it was Ye Qinglan’s rest time and likely a message from her, she checked her phone.
The department heads watched as their stern-faced boss suddenly struggled to contain a wide, irrepressible grin.
They exchanged bewildered glances, but no one dared to comment.
Just as Ning Yunshu was about to reply, a notification appeared:
[The other party has recalled a message.]
Then another message popped up.
[Ye Qinglan]: Okay, got it.
Ning Yunshu couldn’t hold back a sudden burst of laughter.
Ahhh! Her sister’s tsundere act was just too cute!
“Ahem.” An older manager cleared his throat.
The young CEO’s expression shifted with Sichuan opera-like speed as she calmly said, “Continue the report.”
After exchanging looks, the presenting manager resumed his report.
Suppressing her amusement, Ning Yunshu finally replied.
[Ning Yunshu]: What did sister just recall? I didn’t see it.
Ye Qinglan’s cheeks burned. She didn’t understand what had possessed her to send such an intimate reply. Coming to her senses, she’d quickly recalled it, thank goodness Ning Yunshu hadn’t seen it, or she’d have died of embarrassment.
[Ye Qinglan]: Nothing important. Don’t worry about it.
Ning Yunshu didn’t press the issue. Calling her out now would only backfire.
[Ning Yunshu]: So I didn’t cause you any trouble today, right?
Ye Qinglan sighed. What trouble could there be? They’d barely exchanged glances all day. Even Wei Youning, who shared her room, hadn’t noticed anything amiss. They might as well have been strangers, just investor and actress.
The hands-off kind of investor.
[Ye Qinglan]: None.
[Ning Yunshu]: That’s good.
She added a relieved emoji, making Ye Qinglan both exasperated and amused.
[Ye Qinglan]: Don’t worry. No one said anything.
[Ning Yunshu]: Okay then. Is sister going to wash up now?
[Ye Qinglan]: Yes.
[Ning Yunshu]: Go ahead then. I’ll wait for you.
[Ye Qinglan]: Alright.
With that, Ye Qinglan got up and headed to the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Ning Yunshu happily reread their conversation, her heart swelling with joy.
Although Ye Qinglan appeared aloof and reserved, Ning Yunshu could sense that the initial rejection was gone. At times, even that familiar gentleness would inadvertently show through.
To Ning Yunshu, this transformation brought immense joy.
She even began imagining a time when Ye Qinglan would no longer be so guarded, allowing her to openly and directly act spoiled with her.
For now, what she needed to do was to reclaim the sister she had nearly lost.
